Was at this game, my first ever NFL contest. Was cold as all hell! As I recall, Fred Cox missed his first five FG attempts before finally connecting on last try to give Vikes their only points. Crowd gave him a Bronx cheer when his kick was good. Lions proceeded to lose their next thirteen to Vikes before ending streak in 1974. Thanx for the upload of this game!

Brady Keys in 1970 became the first Black to own a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. He eventually owned 11 franchises, most of them in Georgia.

Detroit's defensive line played like gangbusters back then. They were quick and plenty tough. Vikes tried to double-team defensive tackle, Alex Karras, (#71) a lot.

Lem Barney #20 CB for Detroit, was defensive rookie of the year and went on to a HOF career. 3 INTs in one quarter, that has to be a record. Today, QBs wouldn’t even throw to his side of the field. Also in the secondary for Detroit was Dick Lebeau #44 who had a 59 year career in the NFL, 14 as a player and 45 as a coach. That’s longevity.

Lem Barney was great and his TD return here shows it, hard to believe both him and Alan Page were rookies in this game.

4:16 he's punting. If memory serves, in Lem's 1st game he had a pick 6 off of some guy named Bart Starr. And I believe it was on the Packer's first pass of the game.
The Lions have had some pretty good #20's. Barney, Billy Sims, and another RB whose name escapes me....

`Most of these Vikings in this game will appear in Super Bowl 4, just 2-short years later. Man oh man , how I miss the Pro Football of the 1950's and 60's. Playing in the outdoors, in bad or good weather conditions, sunshine, cloudy, snowy, and raining like hell the game was played. It was such fun to attend the games, buying the football program for that game day, cheering on the home team, wearing your teams jersey, with your favorite players name and number on it. Standing at attention for the Star Spangled Banner right before kickoff. Not one damn somebody taking a knee out of disrespect for our country and flag then! In those times, I would pity the fool that would that would "take-a-knee" on the sideline in 1967. When the 70's rule changes and season extension accompanied the new mindset of many players, out of heartbreak for the past great behavior of Pro Football Players, Coaches, Owners, and cities the team played in, I just could not continue to support a game that I loved. Went to the College Football Games, they still play for the love of the game and future wealth in the pros. I loved the 1960's Vikings, whether the Coach was Norm Van Brocklin or Bud Grant, I supported the Vikings. In my twilight years now, these great Pro Football Games of the past are given to old football fans like myself, that couldn't change or swallow the new way of Pro Football. I was not by myself in this endeavor. Many old Pro Football fans did likewise. I post this heart-felt appreciation to Mr. Comrade Dobler for these videos of great games/players of the past. These posted videos really bring back some wonderful memories of times past. When cherished family members were still living, and all in the living room watching Pro Football on the tv on those great Sunday afternoons. I'm sorry for the younger fans that were not around to appreciate what I, and millions like me, experienced on Sunday afternoons of the past. For myself, the years wreathe "best ever" for myself as a fan of Pro Football.

Last game for Ron Vander Kelen. From Green Bay, he went to Wisconsin and didn't see much action until his senior year, when he took the Badgers to the Rose Bowl. He had a record setting performance in a losing effort. He then led the collegiate all stars to victory over the NFL champion Packers.

Sad that Lem Barney said after a great career and much deserved election to NFL HOF that if he had to do it over again he wouldn't have played pro ball. I love football, but glad my boys got through eight years of college football without any significant damage.

Three picks in one Quarter for Lem Barney! Surely that’s still a record. Pretty lame, Minnesota settling for a field goal in the waning moments to avert a shutout. No wonder the Vikings haven’t won a Super Bowl.
