loved this video. wish we had time to film things like this! this was a ton of work to film haha
Sounds like Phil Mehr needs to step his game up.
Stop filming Hondas and trucks ;)
What do you think of whistlindumbass and him destroying 2 R32s? Please just tell me you have a video coming.
@@AndyDufresne4 Hondas are atleast if not more, cooler than the GTR's.
@tommyfyeah it was worth it though
That torque wrench work on the turbo studs was amazing! nice job PT!
I use that brand all the time
It is very rare that I laugh out loud at at a RUclips video (especially car content), but Pete beeping like he was using a torque wrench got me.
Definitely one of the most honest channels you’ll find.
Nismo type A Fuel reg are a great simple upgrade that looks factory but really affective
Please paint / clean the rusty looking crank bolt, it will then look perfect.
AGREED.
Or just replace it with a new zinc plated bolt
Yes, will be taking care of that
@@speedacademy just another reason why you guys are the best.
Or ask @tommyfyeah to get a zinc plated one.
Shout out Dan from Terrafirma lol, Loving this restoration series, especially the OEM+ way!
Loving the sound of the new torque 🍻
Pete, you should have dressed up as Bob Ross while making this beautiful work of art! Mid way when the timing belt cover and valve cover were color matched to the car I wasn't feeling it but once it was complete I think it couldn't have come out better! Hope you got plenty of B-roll of this thing done to use every chance you guys get, this kind of work will really bring your channel views up I think.
The RB is a good looking engine. Its certianly the best sounding 6 cylinder engine. Period. A cylinder head oil drain kit would have been good if youre going to spin that engine fast for long periods. I think you could check the Aussies and New Zelanders for that. It drains oil from the back of the cylinder head.
Yep 👍 you’re correct. I’ll be showing it all in my 34 Gtr build soon on my RUclips channel
Along with the restrictor for the head feed, RBs are notorious for trapping oil in the head, especially once you upgrade the oil pump.
@@OverdriveMediaNZ very true, I did 1.0 restrictors on top of my block, PRP head drain, baffled rocker cover too. Next step would be upgrading oil pump, then extended sump. If you’re chasing crazy hp numbers then I’d say considers dry sump set up
I disagree the best sounding 6 cylinder engine is the one on the poster at 20:29
The RB line of engines are great looking.
Oooh the rubberized finish in the throttle plates is likely to help seal them when closed. I believe from the factory, there’s a coating in the runners where the plates sit that is usually ruined when people go and clean or hone them.
Dude crushes, that manifold is beautiful
Tomei is tow-may as in the fifth month of the year, May
It's the name of the highway that connects Tokyo(To) to Nagoya (the first kanji for Nagoya can also be provided Mei) hence the name Tomei
I agree with Pete….that redone RB is livingroom artwork. Beautiful piece!
With such big injectors in that fuel system I am surprised that you have not upgraded the fuel pulse damper to a nice low profile radium fuel pulse damper. When I had the stock fuel pulse damper on my EJ Turbo, I had bunch of lean points in the fuel map that had to be compensated for with big fuel spikes, when I got the new radium fuel pulse dampers installed my tuner was able to take out all the big fuel spikes he had to put in and now she runs much better at idle and across the rpm range along with a minor increase in fuel mileage. Over all that long block is sexy looking.
You guys should have at least 2 mil subs by now with the great content you are making! Greetings from Germany
Great video guys 👍. As an Aussie doing a single Turbo power conversion on my R34 Gtr I approve on detail u guys put in 👌. RB’s loveeee new gen single Turbos, but I respect the oem classic look
That's the same rail and injectors that I put in my customer's R32. Great fit and phenomenal performance.
Quick fun fact about the "paint marks" it's actually a product made by Dykem called "Torque seal". It's not paint, it's a ooey gooey gel that dries rock hard and is a "tamper evident mark". That way you know if the screw has loosened or been removed. I use it all the time in my profession.
Good job guys! Nice to see you're paying attention to what people are suggesting here !
It's definitely a real joy to work on the Rb.
The jz of the other side is simple and functional...
Enjoy the Rb, from fellow Jz owner:)
What a difference with the rebuild! Looks so good! Can’t wait to see it back in the gtr!
Pete with the one man show! Nice episode brother!
Absolutely awesome build! I do believe however to avoid signal issues on your fuel pressure sensor you would have to put a rubber line in between. Not hard mount it to the engine, vibrations might cause false signal or even failure of the sensor.
Good point thanks!
Remote mount ftw!
Good call on the R35 coilpacks, my old #1 coilpack shat the bed within minutes of its first startup after working on it for months. Also, highly recommend a P/S belt idler pulley. It is not fun to be at the track and lose a belt that can mar up/damage stuff in your engine bay, then try to drive it at speed without power steering! Ross Performance makes one, or upgrading to a KRC pump kit from Two Six Engineering is a good way to go (and comes with the idler pulley). I've got a few idler kits tho, if you want I can send one up.
Looks gorgeous! Well done, gentlemen. Great video.
Me and my wife love watching you guys but we had to power through this episode because the ticking from the music when Pete was talking about the manifold nearly drove us crazy.
The attention to detail in this rebuild is just amazing! It is true that the RB is a pretty engine, the champagne hue they used on the R34 GTR Nür edition is my favorite.
I find it ironic that you have a poster chilling on that cabnet in the background of the legendary OS Giken TC24-B1Z which was based on the Rb's Grandfather, the Legendary Nissan/Datsun L28. The Os Giken twin cam head was super rare i believe somewhere from only 9 or 11 were made, 30 years later they started taking orders again with a revised/updated twin cam head. Proper blast from the past. This RB build has been incredible to watch keep up the fantastic work. The intake is so pretty which is rare for something oem 😂
You have made me appreciate OEM + designs
You need to increase the oil capacity because that pump will dry out the oil pan and you need to restrict head flow.
That intake looks crazy awesome!!!!!!!!! WOW! It is beyond gorgeous! Love the videos! Keep up the great work guys!
Looks amazing! Great work guys!
The cast turbo outlets are going to cost you response and power. Better to use the r34 ones or aftermarket.
They are impossible to change on the car without taking the turbos off.
looking so mint! the paint matched valve covers are so sick
Loved this vid. There is just something about seeing an engine build no matter how simple come together 👍
It's good that they've opened up a factory in Japan just to make these old parts again
This engine is so gorgeous. I can’t imagine what it would cost to rebuilt to that level. Probably more than a new car.
This is my favorite channel, the work these guys put in is tremendous
Quality content as always. Love the music too
Man... builds like this make me consider moving to Canada.
I just made 405awhp (398ft/lbs) on terrible 91 octane fuel on a setup similar to what you’re currently running on those same turbos. Hilariously fun
Not using oem gaskets and sealants around the throttle bodies is the reason why most 26’s have coolant consumption issues- ie Adam LZ
Glad you're back to the earlier release on Saturdays!
Another wonderful video and a real treat for my Saturday morning but....... BUT...... where is the Celica? Any updates???
Cool, have the same turbos installed on my rb26. It still needs to be droped i to the car. I grinded a smoother transision into the turbine housing inlet, because the outlet of the tomei expreme header im using is as big as the "hole" of gasket.
Super satisfying guys
My God, that engine is gorgeous ❤️
wow.. it’s so clean! love the grey.
PT, that intake system looks amazing! But I’m a practical man and I can’t help thinking about all the potential failure points. Crossing fingers for you! 🤞
Love the build so far
Are those Tomei USA or Tomei Japan parts? If they are Tomei USA, you may have issues. Google Tomei USA vs Tomei Japan. Also WhistlinDiesel did a video where his Tomei USA intake cam snapped off grenading the engine.
Yeah they might be smart to watch that video before they try starting that car...
Very pretty and excited to hear it rev with those new turbos.
Banger video, and low key a banger tune in the background lol
I've got the same Bluetooth torque wrench Pete! Love that tool!
Totally digging the OEM+ style
I literally died when PT did the beeps omg 😂😂
Beep-Beep-Beep Beep Beep torqued to spec, loving it guys. Videos are better than ever, lapse video is great and the ASMR type edits for the clicks, snaps, nuts, etc. sooooo satisfying ;)
Keep up the great work guys. Side note: you guys are really getting the mass appeal to these videos.....my 70 year old mother saw part of this video and said, 'those are the funny guys and their car videos are the best you watch'
She might be crushing on Pete a bit, she thinks Dave's commentary is the funniest though.
That engine do be lookin' good. Great job 👍
This is not an engine… this is a Work of Art! 👍… beautiful… my type of OCD build. Well done
The coating on the throttle bodies is Tomei throttle coat and necessary in order for them to seal properly.
Hey Pete, the left side intake gasket was backwards covering the coolant port. Hope you fixed, I'm sure you did but just thought I'd mention it just in case.
Which gasket exactly? What part of the video did you see it?
Smart move using a ye bolts instead of the nut and stud as they’ll inevitably vibrate off anyway.
Also you see why a lot of GTR owners swap out to single turbo setups
Love this series
Always awesome stuff.
Tomei cams after watching whistlindiesels video last night 😳
Crazy I just watched that whistlingdiesel R32 video this morning tomei cheap steel junk. I would pull that junk off this build and go with some high quality HKS.
That dude needs to restore a whole car with you guys
Music in this episode was on point
Excellent relaxing video to watch after autocross :-)
Love the hand torque wrench my fav tool and sound effect 👌😎 I do it too hahah
Great torque job there PT 👌🏾 😆
Got a link for that wrench? 👀
Beautiful.., loves this video 👍
not sure if you addressed this in your other prev videos but MY 2 cents would be to ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT UP either get a new oil pump or check to make sure its not on its way out.
My RB's OIl pump gave up during a dyno run and was blessed my mechanic was on the ball and noticed the oil guage dropping like mad.
Upon further reading/research, RB's oil pumps are known to be the achillies heel and die early because, well they not the greatest.
anyway great episode and a damn good looking engine
Loving the GTR and Supra content
this baby looks fineeeeeeee!!!! cant wait for you to fire it up! and I miss the EVO:(
So clean!
some dei heat loom/sleeve around that fuel line would be a good idea. It may get crusty fast from all the heat being close to the block and intake.
What a beauty! The engine looks great too. Lolol
Motor looks amazing
Great video!!! Love the content…. I hope you switch to metal gaskets though. The factory paper cold side are garbage. And I don’t know your budget but I would also look at titanium studs for the plenum. Soooo much easier to remove that behemoth with a stud.
Please level up the harmonic damper bolt by painting it. Keep up the great content!
This are dreams and hard work for me!
That’s a nice unit 😂. But seriously I’m all about that OEM+! Nice video
I love that engine man, I wish I can have it on my car,
This build is going to look so deng good
That's dope!
Read those instructions DP. So funny. Thx guys
When changing turbos from a journal type bearing to a roller bearing turbo, it is sometimes required to install an orifice in the oil supply to limit oil supply down to the recommended oil supply rate for the roller bearings... :-)
Next episode 😁
PRP was like oh sh!t we better fix our FU quick, haha… glad to see things working out tho!
LOL at the torque wrench sounds when tightening the exhaust manifolds.
I love Pete's lvl of OCD, it's extremely satisfying watching him work because if that, I knowthat rusty crank pulley bolt is going to bother him.
RB looks beautiful. I'm curious to know what you guys spent on that thing!?
Looooooooooooooove this content and can't wait to build my RB!
Also, a few tips from a random interwebz person. 1. Be very wary of Tomei USA products (not sure if that's what you used or not) as they have proven to be pretty crap, the camshafts in particular but I haven't heard anything on "their" oil pumps. 2. Tomei's oil pump manual states that "As the flow rate of the oil pump increases, increasing the oil pan to a high capacity oil pan will be required." in their installation manual. The baffle is nice, but they say a sump upgrade is in order. I'd at LEAST overfill it a bit and make sure to use one of their head restrictors for whatever type of driving you’re going to be primarily doing. Heck, that oil pump opens up a whole world of oil related mods, valve cover baffles, restrictors, head drains etc. 3. When installing that oil pump you would do well to use PRP's crank pump alignment tool, it's cheap insurance to make sure one of the RB's biggest issues is done just right!
Love to see the NZ wiring product feature
Should of done the valve cover foam/baffles and head drain back kit
Hopefully they been on the motive DVD program it's an automatic reliable win
Beautiful.
Great content as usual - did you inject some oil into the turbos to cover initial start-up ?
New crank bolt please, or vapor hone it. It stands out a lot. Can't wait to see it running in the car.
Hi, l am going through the same project and willing to have more info on the build cost and contacts for parts you guys used here. Really amazing look and hope it preforms as its sharp look, such beauty 😍😍👌🏽
One suggestion I would make is to relocate the IAT sensor from the plenum to the cold side of the intercooler pipe just before it reaches the plenum. The oem iat sensor location is prone to heat soaking and you’ll get much more accurate readings with it in the intercooler pipe.
Will be running a separate IAT for the link and will do exactly that. 👍🏼
@@speedacademy awesome! Keep up the great work! You guys have some of the best content out there. Looking forward to seeing what’s next💪
