  • One of the best Lego sets ever made has one of the lousiests display offered. Unfortunately one of the best options is a cheap Chinese kit. Is it worth it? does it compliment the rocket....

Just finished a week+ of putting mine together.
Indeed, an exercise in frustration. Utter patience is required. That was over a week of working on it every night after work, and two weekends solid. I think that patience helped in that I have no lean in the tower. Gawd, those pipes on the side had me swearing. And the number of times I dropped stuff down the elevator shaft while trying to put the top together. I was just about pulling my hair out at times.
Also a bit of glue through the structure to keep it strong and firm and together.
And there were parts that were wrong or missing. I was able to substitute around the place. I use a black piece of string to hold up the gantry with the white room.
And you're so right. Once you've got it displayed like this, there is no better way to do this. My Saturn V was already one of my favourite pieces, but with this, she is absolutely magnificent.

I'm building one right now I'm just starting to build the tower. I haven't had the experience you have had with the base other than having to put extra support in the base. My plates I didn't have to glue in. They layed down fairly well. But I'm starting the tower part now so I'm going to take my time at it and take your experience into account

    I agree
    It's cheap fake and challenging
But it's worth it for the display

I've included a site link below for purchase of this 3rd party set. Definitely agree with construction and the issue about stability, fit and support. That having been said, I managed to construct the base supplementing the base supports with the crummy blue supports included with the Saturn V rocket. They actually work quite well once you figure out the placement. The tower is very tall and suffers the issue of leaning or listing which necessitates being very careful when constructing it and then anchoring it to a wall with a bungee after finished. To complete the side piping, I used pliers and WD-40 to lubricate the rod pieces. The gearing of the tower may or may not work, it doesn't matter when finished but could probably use some re-engineering for true perfectionists. Also, the elevator does not move up and down the shaft due to the issue with the tower leaning and the elevator carousel not fitting properly. I did not use glue but that is up to personal technique and opinion. My model is still upright and for the most part fully functional. Other than these flaws which can be resolved with some hacks, this is the best kit to supplement the Saturn V build.

What kind of glue did you use?

Super glue. Don't use the gel kind. That takes a long time to set. Use the stick your fingers together liquid type. If you have parts that not just don't clutch but actually don't even align exactly like I had, you're going to have to use force, ie stand on it or clamp it. I still like the final result and I think you will too. Looks like Lego has learned a lesson and included a launch tower with the new Artemis. Good luck

I've heard that many people use acetone.

Takes too long to set. At least for pieces actively resisting clutch. Also, there are A LOT of pieces. Do you really want to sit around for an hour between each step?

come on dude if you have built Lego non Lego it is not easy but you a whining so much, not easy but if you have built Legos you can get thru it I ordered the whole thing and yes it will be hard but hey this is the fun of the sport we are in. if everything went together perfect, there would be no challenge and you learn along the way you might be bald at the end but you did it.

There's good non Lego and there's bad non Lego. Go watch the video I did on adding water to the Hogwarts castle. I used non Lego and it worked great! Saved about 70% at webrick and I'll buy from them again. Thanks
