I got goosebumps when I saw this grandpa say he is 94 years old. He has been in this river for a century and he has witnessed the changes in China.
The fisherman looks like he walked out of a Chinese historical drama...epic beard. Life seems so peaceful and chaos-free in rural China, almost like you're going back in time to a bygone era.
Nice city with lots of beautiful nature
hes from tang dynasty ahahaha
@@g33k_Tech and still alive 😂😂
Hard life though, if you look in those old (or new) houses in the villages and there isn't a lot of comfort there. I'm sure most people have easier lives in China now than 50 years ago.
@@seanmaguire9950 I heard my grandfather said that his generation could not eat enough. They ate one meal a day or even several days. They used their belts to tighten their bellies. They could only eat an egg during the Spring Festival. He was almost born in one of the darkest periods in Chinese history
If you think China has plenty of beautiful places such as Yangshuo, raise your hand ✋🙋🏻♂️👍
✋
👌
Waah, mansana pun ada di sini!...
✋
Zhouzhang, canal city, is commercial but still beautiful
China one of the best country in the world ❤️.
Raise your 👍 if you believe China is progressive and beautiful country too.
CPC care it's people too.
👍🖐️
Thanks Kate for showing the beauty of Yangshuo. You can publish an encylopedia of your travel all over China.
Good idea, a glossy printed version! Great for coffee tables everywhere.
Parents must be so proud to have such a cool daughter. My favourite youtube channel. Really opens up a China we don't get to see.
They are annoyed I am living so far away and often complain but also are always telling people about me and my adventures so it evens out 🤣 just wish I could see them more often especially since I am their only child, everything was fine before this stupid pandemic😭
Safe? Like China? WOW!
We visited Guilin 22 years ago on an organised tour that included seeing the cormorant fishing at night and a trip down the river Lee on a bamboo raft. It was a magical place. Although it still looks lovely, it is a lot more commercial and flooded with tourist like a lot of the popular places in China. So searching out the local life like you do Ian more authentic. 🙏 thanks
Been to Guilin/Yangshuo earlier last year and curiously the place was quiet...due to the pandemic devastating the tourist industry, even within China where it's been relatively well managed. The highly develop tourist district felt empty yet serene, without the usual huge crowd.
hope your parents could come to China soon and have a good time with their beloved daughter and son-in-law enjoying China's beautiful scenery and tasty food.
My goodness. This is one of the places that I really DO want to visit in China. The areas are truly natural beauties and the bamboo rafting would be quite an experience to try out in life. :)
It is a paradise to take lovely pictures in Yangshou, I guess this place is also popular for everyone around the world. 📸
Not just hiking, but also have a chance to feel its natural surroundings.
holy cow, 93-94... and his son passed away at 60, and his grandson is 40.... and this old man is still so coherant!
The man who started fishing when he was 10 🐁
He looks exactly like those Chinese men portrayed in ancient Chinese sketches and Chinese painting from those brushes and black ink 🍠
Amazing! I can’t believe I get to see such person!
Pure legendary! 🐓
This is quite an eye popping place in China. It's truly a feast for the eyes.
This place is a paradise on earth. Thanks to show to us , Catherine!
I love Yangshuo! Visited three times on various trips to China and it's on my list of places to return to. Although those fake plastic bamboo rafts are definitely for the tourists too - the first time I went to Yangshuo (about six years ago, during Chinese New Year), we booked a "bamboo boat trip" from Guilin to Yangshuo and EVERY raft going down the Li River (the whole river was packed with them, plus some ugly ferries) was a plastic one. The bamboo rafts are only on the smaller rivers :) So a tip for future tourists, don't book a fake bamboo boat trip. Just wander along one of the smaller rivers and you'll find someone renting out legit ones.
The lady on the banks told me the Li River doesn’t have real bamboo rafts , they are only in the tributaries , it’s definitely not something you would be able to guess while booking online 😔the plastic ones do the same job but they just don’t have the right ✨vibe✨ , just not cute , not romantic
@@kats_journey_east yeah exactly! I think we booked it online or at the hostel or something in advance, so was quite a disappointment to find them all plastic! And the river was PACKED with plastic rafts and ferries, really noisy :'( But later we saw the bamboo rafts on one of the smaller rivers around Yangshuo, and in much more peaceful surroundings - would definitely recommend these instead!
I have wanted to know what the real China is like. And I am getting that info through you. Thanks for your enlightening and amazing vlogs . You really go off the beaten path!!
哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
Both modern metropolis' you see and this are all 'Real' China, The country is going through changes and improving thats all.
Did you know that when this grandfather was born, China's average life expectancy was only 30 years old. Looking the smile on his face,How amazing change in China
In September 2019, We went into the hotel we were to stay from the backyard after our couch parked there. After check-in we exited the hotel by the main entrance. As we stepped out we were all shocked because a mountain looked like a large pyramid was just right before us. Actually the mountain is not very close to the hotel. But the feeling was gorgeous.
Ooh Yangshuo, I was there in October of 2015, its a nice and warm place as all of Guilin. And the nature is awesome! I would also recommend the mountain-water theatre in Yangshuo. And a bicycle ride around Yangshuo is a most, i agree with you there =).
The endless discoveries of rural China
Hell Ya 🚲
This wholesome video definitely showcases this beautiful place from more interesting angles than other Yangshuo videos.
Unlike those cormorants we get to swallow this entire delicious video! :D
Oh poor cormorants! But good riddance of the tight strings around their long necks. Free at L-A-S-T!
I was actually stunted when I 1st fly in there to guillin and later sail thru to yangshou. It was just too surreal, the sceneries, the mountains, etc and of course the bamboo ride. Never had these in my country and when we 1st saw it it blew us away hands down and we went to an ancients village by the li river. The village is actually a 1000 year old. Observing the life around was alot to take in but we finally had to go back to Zhongshan by a tour coach. Highly recommend anyone to go there. It's just unbelievablely beautiful. Definitely going back again!
We hope to make a return visit next year 😁😁would love to see it during the summer or fall
Enjoy your videos very much. A small correction-The "rain coat" the fisherman wears is not made of pine needles. It is made of the fiber from the sheathes of the palm tree leaves. In Chinese, it is called 棕衣. People from my hometown in Sichuan call it 蓑衣。Likely the only raincoat particularly for the farmers in the old days before plastic was brought into China.
Thanks for the info 😄😄
China is beautiful country, you are amazing katherine sister God bless you and bless your family ameen ☺️😇
阳离子真是有福之人啊! 能和最爱的人一起,饱览这么多美景,吃到这么多美食,碰到这么多好人,此生如此,夫复何求!
This video is so high quality that should be on the National Geographic Channel.
I discovered your channel last week and started to watch some of the old vlogs. Entertaining and educational.
one of yours best videos very interesting love it...thank you!
Thanks again! Really great sharing!
Now this is the content I want to see! Spectacular Katherine!
😁😁
Absolutely loved it!! Such a beautiful narration!
Thank you for sharing , good photography and interesting 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I love your authentic videos! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing another cool episode. I sensed quite a bit serenity in the month of March there. Those Timekettle earbuds are some impressive devices too.
absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
thanks for the content. great story. keep up that curiosity for new things.
I’m following you amazing tours around china not for a long time, you are a very brave young lady. I’m not saying china is dangerous, actually is very safe, I live in Shenzhen for about 12 years. Thumbs up!
With due respect, I think you wanted to mean "adventurous" instead of brave. 😜😜😜😜 Brave should only be used when Yang Yang stared down the water buffaloes and have a tangle with the village dogs.
Wow! That is some stunning scenery! I was also surprised at how clean it was!
Beautiful scenery...
I only lived in Guangzhou for 3 years but even in a big tier 1 city I think I would conclude that Chinese in general are one of the best at grafting architecture, lifestyles, cuisine stages of development etc. together. Like potluck or food with lots of different things that at first you would think would turn out to be a culinary disaster but somehow doesn't. 😆Yangshuo is another case in point. I'm just really excited to go back to China maybe next year but until then watching lots of tour vids and especially back watching your whole playlist is the next best thing ~ 😊
Hope you can come back soon, glad you like the videos 🌼
Totally enjoy your angle of seeing today’s China. So in sync with my own taste. Many thanks for producing this beautiful video. Thump up as usual.
This is so wonderful, thank you 阳离子. I'm Chinese and have been studying in Italy since 3 years ago and I've seen so many students around me have had deep misconceptions about China. I would have always shown your videos to them and this really saved lots of time to explain. Your preferences for the Chinese countryside life are very inspiring to me, especially for my future plans for making videos in Italy. I'm a Christian and am very interested in churches. Instead of shooting the big churches in Italy where everyone knows, I'd rather go out into the Italian countryside, as you've focused on, shoot the beautiful wet frescoes in the small churches. I hope my project is going to start soon. I am so glad to see that 小王总 seems to have recovered mentally from the grief of losing his mother. I wish you two the best❤️
Thumbs up
Glad you like the videos , I feel you about the churches , it’s like how I like filming all the tiny village temples and shrines not just the main big ones that attract all the tourists 😁😁
Gemelli - I wish you great success with your project. You have so much to be proud of, please never forget the history, inventions, progress, … of beautiful China. If the locals start to compare Italy to China, never let them forget that it was beautiful China who invented pasta, gun powder, tea, alcohol, paper, silk & compass. Italians are known world wide for pasta, but it was Marco Polo who brought it back from beautiful China. GODspeed!

怎么这么多中国人我想看外国人的评论
Thank you Katherine for taking us to see Yangshuo outside Kwilin. We all heard about Yangshuo but never been there. So thanks again.
I hope I can follow in your footsteps and live in China (and bike ride half as much!), I'm trying to learn Mandarin and get my life together to make it possible sooner rather than later. Your attitude inspires me so much and your videos are really wonderful, wholesome and educational. Thank you so much for your channel and the insights into life there. This video is the highlight of my day, I always look forward to your uploads. I wish you and Wei lots of happiness and good health, it's amazing how hardworking and open minded you are to have the life you do today, China definitely got a diamond when you decided to move and study there.
Good luck on your mandarin learning journey , hope you can come to China soon , there are so many interesting things here ✨ more videos coming soon😄😄
Rumours had it that learning Mandarin is akin to climbing the Great Wall from end to end. Good luck and do you suggest we mount Yang Yang on a gold band if she is a diamond. Yes, Yang Yang is a real credit to herself considering she learnt Mandarin by herself not to mention writing a whole Master thesis in Chinese.
@Hang Tuah Lol
Saw Sae - I love your comment, admiration & gratitude. You have the tools to accomplish this goal. Stay focused & never forget to reach out to people who have done what you want to do, they will help. Remember, they reached out to others also. I wish you joy, health & great success with this goal of yours. You will not be disappointed visiting beautiful China.
I can chat with you if you need to practise oral mandarin online.
Thankyou for showing Yangshou. It is very nice. We should travel to this place next time.
Excellent short documentary. Thanks a lot for this virtual tour of this picturesque place.
This is the best video that I have seen from your previously video. Love your funny way to persuade wei to instagram. Bonus with fascinating bird fish catcher . This is really good to documentary it. Love your mom and dad also. Thank shared.
Great video! This place is so beautiful and its surroundings awesome. I did not think to see such wonderful sites in China
It is awsome travel vedio, thanks Katherine, good job.
Thank you. It's always relaxing to watch your contents. I want to travel back to China soon 🥲
Another awesome vlog ! Thanks for the timekettle info ! It will help me as I stink in languages..like your wonderful parents, I’m also waiting to revisit China when I’m able to. Thanks
Thanks for the video love it wish some day I can visit china again especially the urban areas such a beautiful country sigh scenery and lot of places to see and trying foods
Nice, thank you for sharing your unique life journey in China.. I enjoy viewing your interviews with the everyday local people, very special and they are amazing .
Haha omg we met Mr Huang (or possibly his brother) a few years ago but didn't stop to chat to him. This is such a great intro to the village, really in-depth and captures all aspects of rural life in China the way I found it on our travels too. Love it!
Omg you guys have been here too, it’s a beautiful place isn’t it 😁
我在抖音有关注你
What a genuine couple, just love you guys !!
Thank you Katherine and Wei -Indeed Yangshuo is a stunning location! Your open and approachable nature with locals gives us a chance to see a different side in a famous tourist town. ! And as a side note, I have definitely thought about getting Timekettle next time I visit😄
👍👍👍 Beautiful and interesting Vlog. Thanks.
Blessings.
An exceptionally well done video. Thank you so much. Guilin is indeed a magical place.
Love you guys! Like your thinking/reasoning. Trying to watch your vids..
Beautiful place, beautiful people, and of course, beautifully put together in this video. Thanks Wei and Katherine.
Loved your vlog. Your last comment really hit the nail on the head, about the younger generation in the busting cities and the other older generations in the village with their traditional livelihood. Very interesting.
I am so glad that I stumbled across your channel. I watched your most recent one on finding a house in a village and furnishing it. I subscribed and am starting to watch all your videos. This one brings back great memories from five years ago when my older brother and I spent couple days in Guilin and Yangshuo. I just loved the natural scenic beauty of the mountains and the water!
Picturesque Guilin, thanks guys, away from the turmoil of today's woes!!👏👏
Hi. Again you did the right thing. The real life in this beautiful place. Tks a million for this video.
Thank you for your video. You will realize how you are recording treasures when you're older looking back. Keep up the great work
Amazing video. Thanks!
Love this video! Been to Yangshuo three times and had taken photos of the fisherman by the riverside. Enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the place…….heaven on earth indeed! Thanks for sharing this, brought back fondest memories of my visits! Hope to make another trip in the near future! Never enough!!!
Beautiful picturesque town! And friendly locals too.
I loved the scenery!! This translation device is also extremely useful !!
Thanks again for the rural tour. It is a perfect contrast to the urban tour of China's big cities, both are equally beautiful but I appreciate the videos on rural China more.
Amazing scenery! Thank you Katherine😁🇨🇳.
I salute you Katherine. Im a follower of your vblog!!! Thank you again for showing us the rural areas of China: Sper beautiful!!
Full of positive energy. Great jobs! Keep going, you'll be rewarded abundantly :)

Girl you nail it with your explorations great funny commenting during the video's. I love it..
My grandmother is 92 and hasnt really left the house in 20 years 🤣 this guy is a legend 💪
Wow your take on the current different generations in China was epic. I am taking notes now 😅 it is a unique time
Really really in love with this place!!!!! 😍
Your videos are so fresh and organic. Watching your videos is like breathing in fresh air.
Really like what you said " paradise on earth " magnificent scenery within China , just wonder myself whether fortunate enough to visit yangshuo in my lifetime, thanks for your video sharing and wishing you the best
I love your comment regarding different worlds at the end. It's very true. Some kids in GZ or SZ nowadays have no idea where chicken meat comes from .
One of my most favorite channel!!!
Yes! love this town~ being there in person it's is even prettier than all the beautiful photos you can find online. and your philosophy is perfect. explore what's outside of tourist locations, those karsts aren't limited to the village, it's pretty much all over the greater Guilin area mainly along Li and Yulong rivers.
I have been to Yangshuo and Guilin 3 times, so beautiful and amazing. 🙏🏻👍🏻😍
So picturesque, can see why it’s so touristy!.
the only promoted commercial that I found is particularly useful during travel, Thank you Katherine and Wei, Merry Christmas to All🎄🎄🎄
Yangshuo is amazing and you video is great as always 🤓
Rural China seems like such a fantastical place.
China and its people never cease to amaze me!
Really respect and enjoy your chats and interaction with the locals.
I must say , you are exceptional ! Many many Chinese no matter live in mainland or overseas whom never ever have chance to see such deepest detail presentation about China’s remote area . Thanks a lots! 加油 !
I still remember the first (and the only one) time I saw the mountains of Guilin, I was so so so excited!! The scene was so beautiful and stunning. Thanks for another heart warming video. Love the way you interact with local ppl. Wei is always gentle and loving.
It’s a beautiful place isn’t it , hope we can go again someday😻
I volunteered here in 2007 for 5 weeks! It was magical...
Katherine, I have been watching your videos for a while now, and they are really cool. But this one is particularly great. Love your travel style, love your narration style. Keep going!
Glad you like the videos , we have been doing lots of exploring in Guangxi and Guizhou this month, looking forward to sharing with everyone✨
Wonderful video, love all your videos..
I have never been to Guilin yet. I hope to visit someday. Thank you for this very enjoyable upload. Hope we have peace everywhere. Love you both.
Enjoyed your Vlog, and Welcome to our home town. We really miss it as not back home over 2 years due to the Covid.
Envy your gutsiness making the 2000km trip. Once again thanks for bring us the many views of beautiful China. 给你个赞👍。
Thanks Katherine your videos really cheer me up.
🌟🇺🇸⭐ Wei in trouble all the time. Lol. Beautiful. Added to my bucket. I'd don't like tourist traps either. Like your channel because I get to see the locals life. Thanks.
