- Mario Party Superstars? Move over! In the years 2000 to 2008, we got a Mario Party game every year, each with tons of modes and mini-games different from the last. And today we'll be talking about my favorite, Mario Party 5 - probably one of the best full game Mario Party experiences out there.

Mario Party DS having actual boss battles for the single player makes it my favorite to this day, the Bowser block fight is so unique I forget that I'm playing a mario party game!

Back then I was stuck in hospital for quite a while and all I had was my DS with Mario Kart and Mario Party. Of course I ended up playing these games with no end.

This is unironically my favorite Mario party game. It was the first one I owned when I grew up and I played it so much. There's a certain charm to it that not many games can match

Mario Party 5 was my first ever Mario Party, and I had the giddiest smile throughout this entire video. Thank you for making this.
the gamecube era was so plentiful with rich ideas for so many franchises i miss old mario party and mario sports games from back then so bad
It reminds me of how much life was put into these older Mario Party Games. It’s quite sad to see them have less personality but that’s how it be I guess.

@@Rediscool9 Older Mario games pre "New Super Mario" were less standardized and got weirder with the characters and designs. An example a lot of people like to point to is the difference between the first two Paper Marios and the more recent ones. Mario games are now more concerned with keeping the "brand" consistent than they use to be. Of course there are exceptions like how Odyssey had a lot of great new ideas and felt really fresh but we haven't seen anything on that level since.

A lot of bundle or party games like this tend to have what seem to be "side modes" that are actually fun and have more depth than what's billed as the "main game". I'd bet many people never with Mario Party 5 never even bothered to see what the other modes even were. Most people overlook them or take a single glance, but if you played them then it feels like you're in on a secret.
(Maybe a hot take, but this is how I feel about amiibo Festival, cash grab aside. The board game is emphasized so much and is rightfully dismissed as the most "mid" possible version of Mario Party, but the mini games, well really Desert Island Escape, are so much more fun and surprisingly complex I wonder how they're even part of the same game as "Happy Points".)

Mario Party 5 is one of my beloved games, played with family, never knew what was gonna happen, played the story mode, it was just great despite what other people say
That was a wild ride I had no idea, I only ever owned Mario Party 4 so it’s really surprising there was so much more N64 type stuff in 5

I just want Mario Party DS content it was one of my favorites and the fact that not even a minigame or two was brought back made me sad
when i was in middle school i had braces for a while and my orthodontist's office had a small game room with (of all GameCube games) Mario Party 5 on one of the stations. i'd play the single player every time i went to get my braces tightened and now i will forever associate this game with the most awkward time of my life

Man I played 6, 7, and 8 so much growing up. Sadly wasn’t born yet for most of the earlier ones.
I clicked this not expecting a Mario Party 5 video, but that is exactly what I got, and I absolutely love it.
While I know "objectively" MP5 is not the best; but it was always my personal favorite.
It was both my first MP game, but I also just grew to love many of the maps and minigames. (Also; I was OBSESSED with the Super Duel Mode as a kid. The E-Gadd body/jets/engine with the Mr. Eye laser was absolutely busted.)
Mario Party 5-7 all are in that weird GameCube era that just has that certain vibe to it. I loved 5 growing up! Spent countless hours in Super Duel Mode and grinding out story mode but I loved the party mode too. The orbs all being trap spaces made this game seem more strategic as you fought over the board. I remember the chain chomp music being a banger

FINALLY SOMEBODY BRINGS UP SUPER DUELS! I was obsessed with that mode as a kid and NOBODY EVER MENTIONS IT EXISTS BUT IT'S SO COOL AND ABSOLUTELY NEEDLESS AND I LOVE IT.
I grew up with Mario party ds and Mario party 8. I still go back to play these games sometimes just because they were really fun and there’s so much to do in them. With the newer Mario party games, I barely played them on my own and really only play them with friends. This may in part be due to the fact that I’ve gotten older and have less free time on my hands, and I get that Mario party is intended as a multiplayer game, but the fact that the older games had that single player content to keep you coming back even when you didn’t have friends to play with is a big part of what made the games special for me. Also, I can’t help but feel (with superstars in particular) that there isn’t really much to do outside of the main party even when playing with friends. I’ve enjoyed several really fun online games with a friend on MPS, and after each game we went and played some minigames to cool down afterward. However, we kinda got bored of the minigame modes quickly. The only ones that were really all that fun in multiplayer were free play and coin battle. Not to mention, only five boards in the game and no other side modes. There just isn’t really anything to keep you coming back to play this game, it feels like Nintendo is just focussed on pumping out games and not really putting the same kind of care into them anymore. Some recent Nintendo games have been absolutely amazing, but I feel like the Mario spin-off series in particular has been suffering lately due to a lack of content and an overall more corporate feel (other than maybe Mario kart 8 Deluxe, that dlc is turning out to be pretty amazing)

Mario Party 5 is the best game of all time because not only is Koopa Kid, the best character to ever be designed by anyone but God, playable, but there are 3 more of him that have cool color variations

Some of the most fun I’ve had is playing “competitive” Mario party doubles with friends. 4 and 6 are my go to for it and I’ve yet to hear louder screams then during those games

5 is the best and most varied game in the series. Plus, the minigames are some of the best in the series. Cony island, squared away, hotel goomba, PUSHY PENGUINS.

DS is the game that I have the most time in. I think it’d be interesting if for the next Mario party that they tried to have the faster paced games like DS, of course with more balance than DS.

Here is a step-by-step guide to summon Alax:
1. Adopt a Cat and have him in the room doing whatever. DO NOT HAVE HIM IN THE SUMMONING CIRCLE.
2. Own a copy of Persona 5, Persona 5 Royals, or Mario Strikers Charged.
3. Draw a Summoning Circle using whatever Geometry you want that isn't a Star.

...my second favorite video game ever. Really, I'm not joking.
I first heard of MP5 by renting it at Blockbuster in 2004, and suffice to say that I was intrigued. By December of 2007, I had bought the game.
Since then, I have been wowed by the general vibe of Mario Party 5. As you said, it released in a bit of a "middle ground" era after N64, early 3D Mario and the standard NSMB aesthetic. Each of the maps are fun, with my personal favorite being Sweet Dream.
The minigames are a point of contention. I didn't realize how mash-heavy and luck-based most of them are until a few years ago. Granted, when I play Mario Party 5 (and any other MP games), I stick to Normal difficulty.
You touched on Koopa Kid. The little _mitochondria_ , as you described him, is my number one Mario character. Playing as him in Party Mode went a large way in solidifying my preference for the little guy. Ironically, my actual main in Mario Party 5 is Toad, but Koopa Kid is loads of fun to me.
Story Mode is interesting; you play on abridged boards and must take on colored Koopa Kid clones in duel minigames. Again, I play on Normal difficulty, so it's usually not too difficult, but it can be time-consuming. Frightmare, the final boss minigame, is one of my favorites in the entire Mario Party series.
What else do I like about MP5? Well, I think that Daisy sounds cute here. Bowser and Donkey Kong reused their N64 noises in spite of their newer GCN models. The Star Spirits returning from Paper Mario is another highlight. My only significant issue with this game is that Donkey Kong was removed from the playable roster. At least he's in Super Duel Mode as an unlock...

Koopa Kid is such a weird character to me. Like, I know he was around in the N64 Mario Party games as well as Baby Bowser, but he seems like kind of a proto-Bowser Jr., yet even after Bowser Jr. appeared in Sunshine the GC Mario Parties only seemed to go harder on the guy, actually making him a player character over DONKEY KONG for a couple installments. And he was entirely original to Mario Party, making him the closest the series has to a playable OC. He was basically to Mario Party what Waluigi was to tennis. I just have to wonder if there was someone at Hudson who was super gung-ho about pushing Koopa Kid, or if it was just a means of recycling graphics for four games on a single system. He always seemed like kind of a "nothing" character to me personally (mostly as a child I was really disappointed when I found out that Koopa Kid didn't refer to the Koopalings) and nobody really seems to care as much about him as other spinoff OCs, yet he had a longer tenure than the likes of Kammy Koopa, Fawful, Wooster, and whatever other randos the fans get attached to.

Mario Party 5 was the first Mario Party I played and I still give the developers major props for including a bevy of modes in order to make things worthwhile (also, Paper Mario. When was the last time YOU saw the RPGs referenced in another Mario game? Yeah, it's been a while, hasn't it...). That being said, I personally think Mario Party 3 is the best one overall.
God I wish Mario Party Superstars had dlc and included boards from 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Watching a alax video feels like a fever dream

It was a FINE game, dumb chill fun with friends around a couch. It wasn’t the Mario Party game we wanted, but that didn’t make it BAD.
