More likely than you'd think. They aren't just going to hand out the state of the art intelligence data from an advanced targeting array to the pilot. A good old photo camera is cheap, reliable, and command is able to simply review the film to confirm that there's nothing that needs to be confiscated. By comparison, you only get to see GoPro footage from inside planes nearing retirement and widely exported. Nothing from 5th gen or new 4th gen aircraft.
I like the casual discourse of the intercept example immediately showing a couple of F35's with two Russian flankers before anything's even been explained
It’s one of the most common interactions, so it makes sense tbh. Flankers. Bears, and the occasional transport/recon aircraft are the most common NATO intercepts, followed by malfunctioning civilian jets and private aircraft.
If intercepted, with the interceptor on the right (1 o' Clock) rocking his wings he is ordering: ''Follow me to outside of the prohibited zone/airspace.'' If the interceptor is on the left (11 o' Clock) rocking his wings, he is ordering: ''Follow me to the nearest suitable landing area and LAND.''
Bas i nije dobar posao.
gives them something to do lol, but in all seriousness it greatly depends on the circumstance and attitude of the opposing aircraft. You'd be surprised how quickly it can get sketchy
@@kuhnville3145 KAL007 is a tragic example of this. Air intercepts aren't a fun exercise, all it takes is a mistaken command and a few hundred lives could be lost or worse, a war could start.
You didn't address the one thing I was interested in: what happens when the plane being intercepted is unresponsive? Bump it? Fly in front of it disrupting its airflow? Then finally shoot it down?
That depends on what aircraft it is and where it is. Shooting down an aircraft should always be avoided at all costs, because that comes with loss of life and potential dangers on the ground. Generally they will follow the aircraft, especially if it is non military. That was the case with the cessna for instance, that eventually ran out of fuel over the baltic sea. But if its a military aircraft, they would follow it. If it is heading towards any critical infrastructure like a city or other important things, they could be shot down if there is great danger.
Thank you, I might need this tutorial so that I know what to do during an air interception in European airspace even though I am supposed to study for college
Why no mention of the side of the 'intercepted' aircraft the fighters use? Port side pass = friendly, we will escort you. Starboard side pass = go away, you are not welcome here.
Nice video! Can you make another one about the B52 bomber who is patrolling the Swedish border? Like the Boeing B-52H Stratofortress from Fairford in UK.. And one about the Northrop Grumman RQ-4B Global Hawk patrolling the black sea?
I am disappointed with this publication, I wanted to know something more technical about approach, communication, defensive procedure, etc., and I only saw what everyone knows. What a waste of time.

Pulls out an old ass camera in the cockpit of a state of the art stealth fighter
Probably a top gun reference

I like the Top Gun reference here 😁
@@thecactusman17 that makes sense
Camera would still be digital FFS. That thing looks like a stock prop for a sims game.
“Would you intercept me? *(smacks lips)* I’d intercept me…”
- F-22 Raptor
i'm liking how this f22 being into itself lmeme is growing lol
You thought we would not get this reference.....
I'd intecept me!!
I'd intercept me so hard with guidance from ICAO and NATO documents guiding me to a nonviolent resolution to the airspace incursion.
😆
No way Nato just dropped a Tutorial 😭
DCS Letsplay
@@bagelman9572 LMAO
NATO is awesome
they they kinda had to, so many times a day we each experience this, finally I know how to protect my air space FROM THOSE GOD DAM MAGPIES
NATO is learning from Gaijins basement guy.
After this tutorial, I was able to guard and keep my NATO airspace safe. Thank you NATO!
Hey is it really that good? I’ve been trying to find a good tutorial but none of them have worked :(
@clutchtuckerNO SHIT SHERLOCK
I like the casual discourse of the intercept example immediately showing a couple of F35's with two Russian flankers before anything's even been explained
I think they're trying to insinuate that when the ruzians see the F-35s, they are persuaded to fly away from NATO airspace
It’s one of the most common interactions, so it makes sense tbh. Flankers. Bears, and the occasional transport/recon aircraft are the most common NATO intercepts, followed by malfunctioning civilian jets and private aircraft.
NATO: "so we've been getting a lot of comments from our viewers requesting a tutorial so that they can conduct air intercepts in their own nations"
"this tutorial on air interceptions is sponsored by Brilliant"
😂😂
instructions unclear, multiple Su-35s are locking me and I have multiple fox-3s on my tail
fox 3 in su35?
Break left, drop chaff, and prepare weapons for combat.
Fascinating. Is there an international pilot hand signal language that all pilots are aware of?
Yeah, I guess there is something like that. If they shoot the plane, it means they dont like it. :D
If intercepted, with the interceptor on the right (1 o' Clock) rocking his wings he is ordering: ''Follow me to outside of the prohibited zone/airspace.''
If the interceptor is on the left (11 o' Clock) rocking his wings, he is ordering: ''Follow me to the nearest suitable landing area and LAND.''
A quick internet search gave me "www.ukfsc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/public_pdfs/Flight-Ops-Interception-Procedures-Signals-Aerad.pdf"
Yes.
Yes. They’re published in various publications, and aircraft signal too like waffling wings.
Must say this is a good explanation video! Good work NATO!
Thanks for the tutorial NATO, now I know how to keep my airspace safe from intruders
Can't wait for the submarine tutorial

You know damn well pilots on both sides enjoy these stuff

Imagine flying a Cessna, your beacon becomes faulty and suddenly you have two fighter jets at each side making hand gestures 😂😂😂
Go NATO!!!!
I love my NATO!!!
Thank you for your service. ❤
Thank you for your service
Pretty routine stuff most of the time. Still you never know for sure until you intercept.
Nice tutorial but I need the hardware, do you guys have a Eurofighter merch store?

Marci pour cette super vidéo. L’explicatif sur les différentes phases d’interception est très intéressant.
Wow! So you can be sometimes not just "deeply concerned"?
Super interesting!

Why do you say that you "scramble" jets?
Where does that come from?
How many times does this happen ina year?
NATO intercepted Russian military aircraft over 300 times in 2023

Thanks for the tip I'll use this when a toy helicopter enters my garden airspace.

1:40 is that AOA normal?
So fly higher and/or faster than the interceptors.
Yes.
When there is a storm, the F-35 stays on the ground?
What about intercepted cruise missiles coming out of Russia or Iran? Do they just shoot them down?
What if the jets are entering NATO airspace? Forgot to mention the spicy stuff
I love seeing romanian fighters at the end of the video. Thanks, NATO, great tutorial!
