Sylleske from the slaanesh list (I've returned from the heavens to pester you) is the best distraction carnifex and I'll die on this hill Not that big and scary but rapid ingressing them into the backline and then trapping some big unit in combat for the entire game is awesome.
Giant tyranid monstrosity assaults base. Gary stu chapter with named character beats it. Finds out they're fu%^ed anyway because it turns out their entire base is just ripper swarms now.
Nurglings /are/ my game group's term for speedbump units generally as no one but the DG/Nurgle player uses them. Also have heard tarpits, gauntpits, and No No Squads used at events or other stores
Either Riptide or Ghostkeel. Ghostkeels are not only about as tanky, if not more than, Riptides due to Lone Op + Stealth + Stealth Drones, but because it has infiltrator, you can deploy it very aggressively, and immediately start breathing down your opponent’s neck, which adds an additional element of “Oh shit, its RIGHT ON TOP OF ME.”
Due to its shenanigans, I'd say the Ghostkeel. Infiltrator, lone op, stealth and damage negation without a roll is going to draw attention. More so if the opponent hasn't encountered one before and you pop a drone for that juicy 6 lascannon wounds turning into 0 lol They will remember that, ultimate psychological warfare.
The Baneblade is a singular death star all on its own. _one_ Baneblade survived 2 Gladiator Lancers, Guilliman, Scouts, Inquisitor, Lt, Tech Marine, and Infernus squad pouring _everything_ into it *with* Oath of Moment on it…. And it took _3 wounds total._ That’s 990 points pouring everything into 400 points.
Nah it is neither a death star nor a distraction carnifex because you can basically ignore it all game as it will be stuck in it's deployment zone on most maps and unable to get anywhere. So you can basically work around it's line of sight (which will be limited on most terrain layouts) and kill the rest of the army, which means you are basically playing 2k points vs 1.5k. It's a trap for both players, anyone against it who puts lots of effort into killing it is being dumb and it's a trap for guard players because they are wasting 1/4 of their list on something that is not going to be useful. Also your example is not example of the baneblade being good, it's an example of bad rolling and bad target selection. The inquisitor, lt, techmarine, scouts and infernus are pointless into something like that, those units are either scoring units or trash infantry killing units so we can completely ignore them. SO at best you have about 650 points vs near 500 btw, not 400, a baneblade is 480, the cheapest variant iirc is 450, none of them are 400. Any of those super heavies are basically 1/4 of your list. But also two lancers 4 S14, Ap4, D6+3 damage shots that can re-roll everything, so with oath they are re-rolling all hits, they wound on 3s and will get to re-roll one wound roll and then the baneblade saves on 6s or 5s with cover or at best with the enginseer on a 4+ invul (so we are now at over 500pts). So on average two lancers are going to hit all 4 shots, likely wound 3-4 shots, and the baneblade saves 1-2, with 3 going through that is 3D6 + 9 damage that you can re-roll two of those damage rolls that is on average 18-20 damage. If all 4 shots go through which again is not that unlikely failing 5 ups or 6 ups on 4 dice, then you are talking about 12 flat damage + 4D6, which you can re-roll two of those damage rolls so easily could be looking at more than it's 24 wounds. So two Lancers ALONE only need to roll like maybe 10-15% above average to kill it one round, two of them doing 3 wounds AND with Guilliman is almost statistically impossible, it's a complete nonsense to suggest its a death star based on an incredible piece of luck on your part/bad luck on your opponents part. I mean I presume also Guilliman was shooting at him, which again makes a nonsense of your '990 points' because guilliman basically has a slightly better heavy bolter for his shooting, whereas in melee he can basically kill a baneblade solo, he has 7 S14, Ap4, D4 attacks, so would need to get 6 wounds through, which again is not really out there hitting on 2s, re-rolling, with lethal hits and the baneblade would only save on 6s
I converted a Ballistus Dreadnought into a Deff Dread, I call it the Deffnawt, that have giant claws and the corpse of the dead marine in his cut open sarcophagus hooked up to a control console on a howdah om the Deffnawt's back. The thing looks fucking scary and draws an inordinate amount of fire every game it shows up. It became my distraction Carnifex. It's reputation got solidified at my LGS in the game it survived the first round of shooting with 1 wound then went up the board on the Waagh to finiah off a half health repulsor then kill a Ballistus in the next turn before being taken out by deadly demise.
Worldeater's. Not a specific model, the whole army. I move every piece up the board which distracts my opponent from my real goal of drinking all of their paint
When I played Magic, I was a filthy combo player and I often used Doubling Season as my distraction carnifex to keep people from looking at my Hardened Scales and Parallel Lives. Baiting removal with big scary cards while winning with efficient little dudes was always a great big brain play.
Technically yes but imo the better option is their daemon prince. Either the enemy will have to deal with angron while DP runs around having fun, or they try kill DP and let Angron go wild
He is actually the best distraction carnifex in the game. He can cross the board turn 1, if you ignore him he will absolutely wreck your day, and he even continues to be distracting after he dies because he can come back, haha.
Angron strikes me more as the Death Star unit for WE. A model you can bet on, especially since he might come back. A maulerfiend, or single unit of Exalted Eightbound strike me as the perfect distraction carnifex.
The distraction Carnifex for Agents is clearly Kazamazov. 130pts, for the man on his throne, T8, W9, 3+/4+ saves, though only movement 5. More importantly he has a 3 shot, S 10, AP -4 Melta that hits on 3s with range 18, which can be nasty, and is especially distracting to any sisters players who want the stat line for their own meltas.
The option for distracting Grey Knights players is Coteaz and a squad of henchmen, specifically because he has a Nemasis Demon Hammer and they don't get theirs. 3 attacks at S9 AP -3 D3 is a decent melee profile for a 75 pts character as well.
Honestly any inquisitor for 65 or 75 pts + a full Squad of Henchmen for 160pts with all their funny rules is also not terrible for a disctraction unit if you get into them. 5+ invuln save, -1 to be wounded, +1 to wound with ranged attack, can't place reserves within 12 inches of them. All of this on a unit 16 of 2 wound models with T3. Though the inquisitor can be sniped and the rules turn off.
The Tau Riptide is an amazing Distraction Carnifex. 180 points, 2+/4++ save, 14 wounds, and enough general purpose shooting that you migbt consider just taking it foe the pew pew.
This week's Shill% is 2:15 for Patreon and 3:04 for merch. RUclips pleasantries (by why of telling us to comment) at 24:40 but actual RUclips pleasantries at 37:54. Much better this week.
I’d argue anything other than your bricks of wardens/guard. Dreads all do well, tanks get targeted a ton and often don’t die for me, msu allarus as well hell even a Solo meme character or sisters rhino work for me
Hi friends, on the note of celestine being a distraction carnifex. She gets a 4+ FNP if you allocate wounds to her if she's not leading a squad. You can Rez her bring her back at full then start taking wounds on the Gemini. Regardless I think 2 penitent engines with buzz saws and flamers are much better distraction then celestine.
Agreed. Celestine doesn't absorb that much fire. You just have to deal with her twice. Penitent Engines are the stereotypical, run them into someone's face and go "deal with this". Better yet, depending on the detachment, they can be made to explode, have multiple ways to be forced to run into someone's face even faster, and there's a few other fun buffs for them.
An idea I've had but haven't had the time to buy them yet(because I don't have the time to paint them); Knights have a rule that you can take up to 3 Armagers as long as your army is keyworded "Imperial" You're not gonna care about my Guard Infantry or Dorns/Russes as much when 3 Distraction Warglaives are charged down your weak points
For Blood Angels, I genuinely think the Baal Predator with the flamers is a fantastic distraction carnifex. 125 pts. for a 12" move, t 10, 11 wounds model that gives itself assault so long as you're shooting at infantry. You can use it to overwatch, you can AoC and pop smoke if you want to defend it at all, and you can tank shock if you want. The thing has regularly traded up for me as well, which really just adds value
Important note for the Kastelan robots is that they don't get the doctrina buffs like assault unless you run the cybernetica cohort detachment for some strange reason.
If I had to call Nurglings anything, I'd call them "The Swamp". (Very fitting). They're not a speed bump, because that implies they only buy a little time. These guys get stuck in, and lock units down in a long, drag-out fight. The enemy WILL kill them, and won't lose much in return. But it will take A WHILE. Like trudging through waist-deep swamp water. Things like Plaguebearers, Poxwalkers, and regular Zombies over in AoS follow the same pattern. Not dangerous, just _time consuming._
The DG Distraction Carnifex is 1000% Foetid Bloat-Drones with Fleshmowers. I've never had one make it into Melee they do the job so well. My group would rather Annihilate it off the board over the rhino carrying my melee Plague marines. Or really anything else. The flesh mower is scary. They're 90 points each 2 for 180, 10" movement, T 9, 10 W, 3+ armor 5++ invul. Able to fall back and recharge. 10 Attacks, WS 3+, STR 7 -1AP 2Dmg with Lethals.
so, i started DG like a month ago. i mainly play 500 to 1000, so in a 1k list, would it still be the bloat-drone? i've played with it a few times, and the times i have the spitters have been doing amazinlgy since it gives it a rather terrifying range option while still hit ok in melee
@@miniskalk6159 500-1000 isn't enough points to warrant taking a Distraction Carnifex. So don't worry about having one. Keep playing and enjoying the game. Once you get to 1500-2000 point games. That's when having distraction carnifexs can help.
1:50 the Path of Exile League Start did indeed go wonderfully. Best one they've had in forever, and not even reddit is complaining about it. It has been a Distraction Carnifex for the rest of my life.
Death Company Dreadnought. You specifically tell your opponent about it before game, how it can come in from reserves and has a 7" charge against monsters and vehicles (magna grapple), how once it is done fighting, and you fight it back, it fights again, how if it kills what it is fighting and consolidates into a new unit (and Blood Angels have a 6" consolidate strat btw), then that new unit gets to fight it and guess what! The DC dread gets to fight again! If your opponent has units fairly close together and relatively soft the DC dread can daisy chain through them in one phase killing everything in its path, fighting multiple times. Watch your opponent be aware of that the whole game.
Yeah it's entertaining that the Dark Eldar's "Distraction Carnifex" is in the same ballpark of resiliency as the Custodes' bog-standard infantry. That said, I have to say I remember a time when the Wraithlord was basically the toughest thing in the game at Toughness 7, meaning lasguns (and the close combat attacks of "not Space Marines") were literally unable to hurt it. And then Grotesques were introduced as things you could take in units of 1, were infantry sized, had 2 Wounds and a special rule where they were immune to all guns that couldn't cause Instant Death.
The tau equivalent, currently has to be the "distraction ghostkeel" its ironic, that its a stealth vehicle, but the stealth, toughness, armor and the lone Op coupled with the fact that it can move very far makes it stick around for way longer than its supposed to. Too bad the weapon is hot-dog water since it only comes with 2 shots, but thats what keeps it cheap and affordable as a distraction.
My brothers Ghostkeel has kicked my butt in every game we've played. Unfortunately, seeing as he only has 660 points ATM, I am limited in my options as well
I think the Riptide plays the role even better. It's big, it's intimidating, and it's really tough for the cost. The gun is decent, but not as great as you might expect for Tau.
I was gonna say, the issue with the ghost keel is you want your distraction to take up shots, which it having lone operative makes it not so good in that role if ya think about it.
@@starsidescav9487 Yeah, the Ghostkeel is definitely an annoying unit to face, but it's more of a "I'm going to fly around and you can't really do anything about it" kind of unit rather than a distraction or bullet sponge.
I have a distraction Illic Nightspear against one of my friends. I managed to kill his Custode Blade Champion with Illic and now anytime I bring him even if it makes no sense my friend targets him. He once rapid ingressed a Venatari squad in my back field purely to kill Illic and they were effectively useless afterwards.
For the custodes what i used (in 9th) was a shield captain on dawneagle jetbike with superior creation and radiant mantle giving it -1 to be hit and a 5+ feel no pain. And it ended up tanking 3 turns of fire power from approximately 1000 points of T’au
Because I'm a sadist and you need to hear this so you can move on in life. AdMech will never be the cool mecha army we wish for, become a Xenos enjoyer.
Bullgryn actually work pretty well as a distraction unit for Guard. Yes only T6 but for 180 points having 18 wounds with -1 damage, 4+ invul, 6+ FNP that will just brick anything they touch and can absorb a lot of anti tank fire.
Tau actually has a very fun distraction carnifex in the form of the Riptide, surprisingly cheap, excellent movement (and tough to pin down), invuln save, high toughness, lotta wounds, guns are scary at first glance, it does the job
I wonder if the Triarch Stalker would fit the bill for necrons? -8" movement on top of scouts 8" -12 wounds with a three up save and a four up invulnerable save (not to mention potential for reanimation protocols) -125 points and if you give it the heat ray it can actually do some damage!
Riptide: 180 points in Retaliation Cadre. Brings it to S9 on the gun so it can punch a little bit. If it dies you trigger self destruct and take them with you. And if someone remebers triptide you know they will struggle to focus anything else
THE JOKE'S - er, sorry about that. Caps lock probably isn't appropriate here. Anyhow... The joke's on you, Brad - I tutor intro organic chem for a living, and I would love a lecture on the history of long-chain plastics!
My Ork army used a Battlewagon with just a Deff Rolla (back when upgrades cost something) stuffed with nothing but gretchin. It would charge in obnoxiously, tie up units in melee, and mulch a few under the Rolla as the Gretchin inside fired out of the vehicle while in combat thanks to the fun interaction of Open Topped and Pistol rules. It served very nicely.
The thing with Celestine is the first few shots will be to kill a Geminae, then on Celestine with 2+ 4++ 4+++, then the other Geminae, Celestine will probably come back, and will then resurrect a Geminae. The distraction piece for Sisters though is probably the Penitent Engine. Something about a screaming maniac in a tin can with flamethrowers and buzzsaws that can advance shoot and charge apparently draws fire disproportionate to its actual threat.
The way I interpret distraction is that you're making something a trade piece, but in opportunity cost rather than straight points value. e.g. Nurglings are a distraction because they get in the way of doing the thing you want to, so they take some fire. Carnifexes feel like they fall in a sweetspot of distraction, actual effect, and points cost? Anything more like a baneblade or monolith you can make a distraction, and the fact that they're scary units lets them work as one, but it's more important that they get stuff done before they go down because they're so expensive.
I'd say Beasts of Nurgle are the distraction Carnifexes of the Death Guard. M 6", T9, W7. Despite a 6+ Save and 5+ invuln, key thing is if you don't kill them at once, they regen all their wounds.
Nah, Foetid Bloat-Drones with Fleshmowers. 90 points. 10" M, T9, 10W, 3+ Armor 5++ Invuln. Able to fallback and charge. They're just better in nearly every way. Idk Beasts points cost.
I started using a vanilla land raider this last weekend and I will say especially for Blood Angels, its a ton of fun. Being able to dump 6 terminators that get to charge something immediately then having lascannons and melta to blast stuff is just so fun.
My favorite Distraction Carnifexes; Blood Angels - The Death Company Dread(shoots back is wonderful) Alpha Legion - That Master of Executions with 5 Legionaries that gets to Infiltrate in, spook people with how hard he hits Necrons - My play group hates my Plasmancer and his Immortals, so I drop a Hexmark with them and let them shoot!
Custodes Carnifex, bear with me, I think it's the Terminator captain. It's tough, it has its ability to change all dmg to 1 for a turn, and you don't need to be fast, when you can deepstrike. Good luck screening him out entirely. And if you do, you were forced to. Which is another part of psych warfare
The Avatar of Khaine is a little costly, BUT, he is definitely a distraction. He moves 12", T12, +2 SV with a +4 invul, 14 W. He halves damage as well. Granted he costs 335 points, he is well worth it because he becomes your punching bag and everything on the board shoots at it while you can run around do your eldar stuff. and once he has a stupidly strong ranged attack and his melee slaps. I think he makes it on the list. He is worth the points.
1000% agree that the default Wraithlord pose is crap. I've bent every effort into giving mine some good poses with minor kitbashing. On that note, I'd suggest that the Wraithseer is a better distraction. It trades two shoulder weapons and two arm guns for one shoulder weapon with a new option, and one brain magic attack for a 4+ invuln, and its melee weapon's strike attack has precision, so it's scary if you're trying to protect certain characters.
For your considerations, the Riptide: 180 Points 10 inch move w/ fly 9T 14W 2+ 4++ Giant model Tankshock for average of 3MW Ignores hit modifiers so doesn't give a shit about BGNT. And even if it mattered has fall back and shoot Tau shooting profile When it finally dies, 2cp strat for guaranteed d6 MW Just shove this up board into your enemy's firing line and go about the rest of your day without worries
It's less relevant now with fixed wargear costs on a lot of things, but a big thing with distraction carnifexes in old editions was that you were not taking the big, expensive toys on model. Dreads got the bare minimum loadout, carnifexes would skip the ranged weapons, whatever was cheapest to slap on them. Usually they'd still slap in melee, but you usually sacrificed board presence for something thats just going to get in their way.
It's 5 points over your hard cap, but chucking a 5man Zephyrim squad in for Celestine to lead can be really annoying since Celestine can regen D3 of them a turn. Can quickly soak up more damage than their points cost requires, especially if you're throwing in miracle dice saves.
Sisters of battle mortifiers and penitent engine function quite well as distraction carnifexi. Tough (t6 and 5+ feel no pain), cheap, fast. Especially in the penitent host detachment where you could regularly get 20+ inches of movement from the torture engines and 4+ feel no pain. The choice between the two comes down to is the survivability more important or the speed for it to fufill the role as distraction carnifex. And of course both of them are pretty horrifying models, with it being an iron maiden and that chair from the clockwork orange but worse running full tilt to dismember and bludgeon you. They arent as tough as your typical distraction carnifex (unless youre in the penitent host detachment) but they are about half the price so it balances out in that way.
Now especially in penitent host they can do very well as your main, well, anything and everything, but in any detachment they work perfectly in the distraction carnifex roll
Celestine does not work nearly as well as a distraction carnifex as youre gonna want to put her in a full squad of zeyphyrim which is like, 340 pts. She could work pretty well for that purpose if you have only her but youre really leaving a lot of wasted damage potential on the table.
Here's my entry for T'au's distraction Carnifex: A distraction Ghostkeel. T8 with 12 wounds. 2+ and TWO instances of reducing the damage to 0. 10" movement and you get Lone Operative... now, you could think "Why would a Lone Op be a distraction?". Well... with how BIG it is, not Riptide level, but big, infiltrating to the middle of the board, you would be surprised to how often poeple just focus on it, sometimes to no avail. While your Devilfish move forward, Crisis deepstrike, etc... and for the low low price of 160. It can do some shooting, it has a scary melta, which can slap, but no reliably, and even taking 2 or even 3 on your Retaliation Cadre lists can do some work.
The Necrons Doomstalker is a great Distraction Carnifex. It's cheap, has a scary blast weapon, has a T8, 12W and a 4++. It's also huge and menacing looking.
Guards distraction carnifex is the armoured sentinel squad - 210 points for t8 2+ save. What makes it even better as a distraction is you can load them up with three lascannons and three hunter killer missiles and have that all fire at a single tank with wound rerolls. On average it does like 5 damage. But the sheer horror of telling your opponent what you’re about to fire makes them the perfect distraction. Best part is you can then reinforcements them for the ultimate middle finger
Really enjoyed this episode. My pick for a Distraction Carnifex is for Death Guard, and it's the Plague Bus: For those not aware of what the Plague Bus is: It is a Rhino, and it has two Malignant Plaguecasters in it. It is 205 points, has all the movement and toughness of a Rhino, but can also shoot out 2D6+6 Torrent Fire, at Strength 6, -2 AP, and D3 damage a piece. It's very low investment, and can run around and be a super threat to stuff if it's ignored. And the best part is, even if you focus fire it and kill the rhino, you've now got two individual units who pop out and can still do that damage.
The beast of nurgle is an amazing distraction carnifex for nurgle Nurglings are there to spawn near an objective or gum up the gears on some big enemy model
70 points per model 6 wounds each toughness 9 6+ save If you don’t kill the model in a phase it regenerates all its wounds They can come in squads of 3 that’s 210 points for a squad of scary beasts that if they don’t deal with in a phase are still on the board to distract with They also explode and have 6 attacks each with devastating wounds
Imperium in all has a good one in the Armiger Warglaive. 12" move, T10, 12W with a 3+ and 5+ inv against range for 150 isn't a bad deal and its weapon profiles are dangerous enough for the opponent to need to pay attention to it. Chaos gets the same with its various War Dog variants and CSM, Thousand Sons, and World Eaters have access to the Maulerfiend as well.
Gotta say for CSM, I would probably go for the Maulerfiend. Only 130 pts for a tough, decently fast moving melee threat that has the potential to do some work but its not a huge loss if he dies and can take punishment.
Playing 'Nids v Imp Knights last night I used Distraction Carnifex. My Distraction Carnifex? 2 Carnifexes + Old One eye. By the time he had wiped them, he had seen my Zoanthropes delete a few Armigers. SOL he then got fixated on those. Meanwhile my Lictors were just punting the Unexploded Munitions. By the time he realized, all 3 Hazard Objectives were in his deployment zone.
I approve of the replacement thumbnail to the MTG screamer killer - made a glow in the dark shadowbox of that and it's my favourite one I've made to date :p great episode as always!
I love the Soul Grinder as a Distraction Carnifex. Looks scary! 180 points, T11 W14 3+SV and 4 up invuln. 8" move, but only the size that makes it tricky to get up.
As a Sisters player, i think you'd be hard pressed to find a better Distraction Carnifex than Saint Celestine. It's worth noting that she gets a 4+ FNP while at least one of her bodyguards is alive. And because they're all part of the same datasheet, you can start assigning wounds to Celestine's model before the bodyguard is gone. People have an intuition about how much they need to commit to kill a T3 model, and with 2+/4++/4+++ they often guess wrong. Bonus points for being able to Rapid Ingress with Deep Strike and make a big show of setting her on the table, "oh you're in trouble now! Hope you saved some CP to save that backline!"
The best answer is the Wulfen Dreadnaught. Its an old boxy dread, but its got a 2+ 4++ 6++ , slaps in melee, and is OC 0 so when it eventually dies nothing of worth was lost.
I Think that St. Celestine is a perfect study of game design, they keep the SoB flavor, being weak and frail, yet with thw respawning gemini to eat lascannons and a 2+4++ it actually has decent in-game tankiness for 16 pts
Missed the infinite revive loop on Celestine. Unless you pop her in one turn she can bring back the Gemini girls, or anything else she is attached to. Celestine with Zepharim (blendy jump packs) is actually a threat to anything that isn't a vehicle
You severely underestimate how willing I am to listen to the entire history of long-molecule plastics. I don't even know what that means, but I am willing to learn.
I have a trio of Haruspex specifically because they are crazy damage-spongey, and they draw every single gun towards them even from games being played elsewhere in the room. The fact that each one has at least 2 Character Yoinks where they snagged a character or even a Warlord out from safety in some way. My favorite being the quartet of Enginseer kills the first of them got in consecutive games, because Lone Op doesn't help you against a 12" ranged attack.
For the Imperial Guard, I’d say the Leman Russ Vanquisher is their Disrrsction Carnifax. It’s around 145 points, and its gun is only one shot, but it can do a lot of damage when it hits, so it can be like a poor man’s Rogal Dorn
I don't know what you guys are talking about. The haruspex is just a chubby lil pupper with that pug style 'just trying to survive' type of fucked up face. Friend shaped. 10/10. Gives very slobbery kisses.
My favourite distraction carnifex in 9th used to be the melee T'au Coldstar Commander. 14" Move, capable of deleting entire T3 units, any T7 vehicle before charging to crush another vehicle with the Onager Gauntlet for 165 pts. Good times.
Defiler. Giant demon crab bristling with guns. 190 pts. A decent move speed, and an ability to ignore 4" of terrain. Enough guns to be irritating, enough wounds to take time to kill. It's truly perfect.
@@swolegolisopod7340 alpha striking is the name of the game with that list. hope you are going second, umbralefic crystal to get to the opposing deployment zone, turn bolters psychic, psychic rerolls, nuke as much as possible and hope the terminator brick doesn't take much damage so you can do it again next turn. it's fun as hell, but doesn't really win.
Something kinda memey for Marines: The fire-strike servo turrets. Now, it loses a LOT of points on toughness (T6) movement (3 inches), however, it is 2+ and 6 wounds at 75 points. You can take two in a squad for 150, get a total of 4 las talon shots hitting on 2s and twinlinked, you can overwatch on 4s. Most people see a turret, and dont know what the hell it is and either shoot it immediately cause 'turret guns scary' or leave it alone and then when it pops a tank go 'turret guns scary'. I love the lil things :3 For templars, I guess you could run a 20 man PCS with no leader, 280 points so a bit pricey, but thats a lot of angry marines to be your distraction brick. Invest grimaldus or a character with t-bones for a 5+++ and they just do not go away most of the game. Sisters, I feel like you could also use just a squad of paragon warsuits as a distraction carnifex. No Vahl for em, otherwise its just purely a deathstar. Even on their own they arent bad, but T7, 8 inch move, 2+/4++ with some melta shots and some good melee with +1 to hit and wound on vehicles/monsters is spicy enough to warrant dealing with while all the squishy infantry does their thing. Definitely easy to use them as a good center piece beatstick unit, but besides Celestine and maybe like a group of sacresants with Junith? feels like a good choice. that or the mortifier/penitent engines charging forward.
Something to note for the Kastellans: they have three protocols they can be in, one for two more melee attacks, one for two more ranged attacks, and one that give them an additional toughness. They start in the toughness protocol, meaning they are realistically T10 for distraction purposes (unless you change the protocol with a datasmith, but that neither here nor there).
Wow… I’ve never actually been þis early to an episode, and it’s about a term I’ve been curious about, _and_ new info on Horde Mode? Þank you, Brad and Eric. You guys have just made an exhausting day end on a high note. Þank you as well, Berilio, for managing to bring visuals to all of þis so my ADD brain can actually focus on þis wonderful wonderful series.
Please never stop using thorn, but rather START using ash, eth, yogh, and wynn. (I'm curious how many of the 'forbidden letters' it takes before a post is unreadable. Also I think the thorn thing is legitimately funny.)

Overlooked distraction for Orks: 10 Boyz in a truck Cheap, fast, and it has just enough punch with that power claw to make you worry. It’ll also stop your gun line from shooting how you want it to.
Armoured sentinel is the perfect distraction Carnifex. MI T8 Sv2+ W7 Lethal hits and twin linked (Vs monsters and vehicles) and not that much damage but ok melee all for 65 points.
The regular land raider has become my go-to in Blood Angels. Depositing my 6-man Aggressors or 10 death company with a Chaplain all with power fists in my opponents' faces, to then sit there with 4 lascannons to threaten things. And other units can hop in for protection if they need it, too
Sigmar example is the Stormcast Eternals Stormstrike Chariot. Carnifex-level points gets you 10 wounds, 3+ save, and 11 attacks on a suffocating 120 mm oval base alongside a 10" move with crash damage on the charge.

The T'au distraction carnifex currently is 100% the riptide, about the same cost, good defensive profile, and a gun you really can't ignore
Agreed
Either Riptide or Ghostkeel.
Ghostkeels are not only about as tanky, if not more than, Riptides due to Lone Op + Stealth + Stealth Drones, but because it has infiltrator, you can deploy it very aggressively, and immediately start breathing down your opponent’s neck, which adds an additional element of “Oh shit, its RIGHT ON TOP OF ME.”
Due to its shenanigans, I'd say the Ghostkeel. Infiltrator, lone op, stealth and damage negation without a roll is going to draw attention. More so if the opponent hasn't encountered one before and you pop a drone for that juicy 6 lascannon wounds turning into 0 lol They will remember that, ultimate psychological warfare.
id go for ghostkeel. riptide looks formiddable but crumples like a wet paper bag from a single anti tank shot
Would probably say the Ghostkeel Battlesuit is more
The Baneblade is a singular death star all on its own.
_one_ Baneblade survived 2 Gladiator Lancers, Guilliman, Scouts, Inquisitor, Lt, Tech Marine, and Infernus squad pouring _everything_ into it *with* Oath of Moment on it…. And it took _3 wounds total._
That’s 990 points pouring everything into 400 points.
Brad forgetting the best distraction carnifex in his main army is WILD, Long live the Mutalith vortex beast

I feel like Angron is definitely World Eaters Distraction carnifex especially since he often comes back pretty quickly
I would agree except that he is heavy point costed probably more of a death star style character
Technically yes but imo the better option is their daemon prince. Either the enemy will have to deal with angron while DP runs around having fun, or they try kill DP and let Angron go wild
Na man, maulerfiend, 130 points, can kill most units in a oner, especially if you tank shock, big target
I also really like the ghostkeel, lone operative makes your opponent chase it down, and the ability to 0 out 2 attacks is great.
Yeah, very true

An idea I've had but haven't had the time to buy them yet(because I don't have the time to paint them); Knights have a rule that you can take up to 3 Armagers as long as your army is keyworded "Imperial"
You're not gonna care about my Guard Infantry or Dorns/Russes as much when 3 Distraction Warglaives are charged down your weak points
It wouldn't surprise me if they bump it in points after the codex, it's just too good
Important note for the Kastelan robots is that they don't get the doctrina buffs like assault unless you run the cybernetica cohort detachment for some strange reason.
And isn’t time Nurgle’s ultimate plague. 😔
Babe wake up! Poorhammer posted
Honestly ignoring the ghostkeel is a smart move, the weapon are a bit lame, and it falls apart in mid to late game to close combat or shooting.
Brad, why must you remind me that we are never going to get any of the cool automata from 30k.

I feel like C’tan are a much better fit for distraction carnifex than the monolith.
Unless I’m playing against a highly competitive player my nightbringer is an amazing distraction. It just marches up the center and soaks up damage.

Great Unclean One shuffling its cheeks up midboard is always a sight to behold
27:12 I've always thought the Hellhound was the choice. You can even choose gun so you're the type of distracting you want!
Also the overwatch puts such a mental load on an opponents movement, they tend to want to get rid of it just to stop being an annoyance!
@@Lord0fContagioN777 70 points. Cheaper comparatively.

I started using a vanilla land raider this last weekend and I will say especially for Blood Angels, its a ton of fun. Being able to dump 6 terminators that get to charge something immediately then having lascannons and melta to blast stuff is just so fun.
My favorite Distraction Carnifexes;
Blood Angels - The Death Company Dread(shoots back is wonderful)
Alpha Legion - That Master of Executions with 5 Legionaries that gets to Infiltrate in, spook people with how hard he hits
Necrons - My play group hates my Plasmancer and his Immortals, so I drop a Hexmark with them and let them shoot!
Plasma + Trans Overlord Tesla Immortal brick is more of a death star, esp when run with Szeras
Psychophage is the best distraction Carnifex for 'nids right now.
I love how at 13:10 it says the haurospex has 4 wounds I know it's an editing oopsie but to that's just hilarious.
For your considerations, the Riptide:
180 Points
10 inch move w/ fly
9T 14W 2+ 4++
Giant model
Tankshock for average of 3MW
Ignores hit modifiers so doesn't give a shit about BGNT. And even if it mattered has fall back and shoot
Tau shooting profile
When it finally dies, 2cp strat for guaranteed d6 MW
Just shove this up board into your enemy's firing line and go about the rest of your day without worries
6:25 thank you for acknowledging that we are in fact not as slow as ork players who play green tide orkz
The beast of nurgle is an amazing distraction carnifex for nurgle
Nurglings are there to spawn near an objective or gum up the gears on some big enemy model
70 points per model 6 wounds each toughness 9
6+ save
If you don’t kill the model in a phase it regenerates all its wounds
They can come in squads of 3 that’s 210 points for a squad of scary beasts that if they don’t deal with in a phase are still on the board to distract with
They also explode and have 6 attacks each with devastating wounds
The canoptek doomstalker (outside canoptek court) is a distraction carnifex. In the court it sorta fucks.
Playing 'Nids v Imp Knights last night
I used Distraction Carnifex.
Distraction Carnicast. That is brilliant in concept, but Poorhammernis simply perfect
I look forward to every episode. Only thing that's gets me through my work week lol
Good times.
Galatus Dreadnaught, one big custodian for 175 points
Poorhammer the only opening ads you sit through
Defiler. Giant demon crab bristling with guns. 190 pts. A decent move speed, and an ability to ignore 4" of terrain. Enough guns to be irritating, enough wounds to take time to kill. It's truly perfect.
I run a Thousand sons list of nothing but distraction carnifexes. Magnus, vortex beasts, full bricks of scarab occult terminators with sorcerers.
"Because when everyone's super, no one is."
*spends all cabal points on a singular doombolt*
Þank you as well, Berilio, for managing to bring visuals to all of þis so my ADD brain can actually focus on þis wonderful wonderful series.
please stop using thorn
Please never stop using thorn, but rather START using ash, eth, yogh, and wynn.
(I'm curious how many of the 'forbidden letters' it takes before a post is unreadable.
Also I think the thorn thing is legitimately funny.)
Please dont stop using þe thorn, its þe best letter
@@vdate In my experience, once you start replacing vowels (Þæt instead of þat, etc.) and using two letters where one set was used (ð & þ; most people don’t þink to differentiate þe sounds) is when you start getting þe “I hAd A sTrOkE rEaDiNg ThIs” comments.
I’d love to bring þem all back, especially letters like Æsh and Yogh, where we don’t have a proper letter, but we probably should do it one at a time; oþerwise we get a lot of pushback.
Overlooked distraction for Orks:
10 Boyz in a truck
Cheap, fast, and it has just enough punch with that power claw to make you worry. It’ll also stop your gun line from shooting how you want it to.
Armoured sentinel is the perfect distraction Carnifex.
MI T8 Sv2+ W7
Lethal hits and twin linked (Vs monsters and vehicles) and not that much damage but ok melee all for 65 points.
The Carcharodons definitely use Tyberos as one of those
Halfway through the episode and still waiting for the distraction ad read 😂
This Haruspex slander in a Carnifex-themed video is downright libellous.
the Haruspex is unironically my favorite Tyranid model. its this big ugly walking stomach covered in armor.
@@zachman1394I think of it as a demented African Bullfrog. Anything and everything is on the menu.
The Distraction Lion… just hide him behind walls and scare the enemy away. 300 points of “I wouldn’t get caught on that side of town, boy” energy.
