Congratulations to The Young Fathers on winning The Mercury Music Prize last night. Well deserved. I dare say "Dead" will break the 3,000 sales barrier today. 30,000 next week! And wow, KEXP, you guys have your finger on the pulse to get these guys in for a live set back in May.
Me too. They deserve some success! I've been kinda waiting for this sound for the past decade. I didn't know this WAS the sound I was looking for, I had no idea what it would be, but I knew I would know it when I heard it. I know it now!
So pleased I caught them on this last tour, beyond pleased to get to see them again this go around. They blew my mind live - seriously, so absolutely incredible, unique, beautiful. Their passion is infectious.
Is this the best band of a new generation. Away from the long line of boring same sounding dross. You've got a mix of hip hop, punk, soul and ska all wrapped up in one great package.
^^^they need to get a new presenter/interviewer this is twice iv heard him stumble through a full interview, its extremely degrading to such musical talent, an interest and background knowledge is not a hard ask!!

You really hit the nail on the head, you don't fit in here. I relate 2 that, Like Meth in Belly man rolls solo, cut off every wasteman & left with very few, 5ish(in Fife). Saw Jack Beats few yrs ago b4 that Beastie Boys 99. Shit a'int easy when Ya gotta do it solo, still man loves it, just go with the flow & I would follow ya'll 2 hell & back. Thats ma word & word is bond!
Hmmm, first time I've heard them and. . . . . Struggling to feel this. I'll try again tomorrow. Sounds like a compression of 4 or 5 genres woven together . . not sure what you are going to hear next. I suppose you have to be a Teenager or in your early 20s to get off on this. Not like the MMP judges to get it wrong. Hope it grows on me. Right now this stinking like a fart in a stuck elevator.
Well live tracks aren't normally the best way to get into a band. But that's the point, this band is their own band. They found a way to create a unique sound that isn't subjected to a genre and I give them huge credited for that. But if you're trying to get into this look up their song "I Heard" and just play the RUclips playlist for the song. A lot of their songs take a bit of getting use to at first, but by the end of the song you can get completely into it. Their song "Get Up", which was the 3rd one they played in this video, is a perfect example of that, but like I said, try the studio version.
Dude, it's the very fact that you do not know what sound they are going to play with next that DOES make them so interesting! Nice to see a group take an established sound, mix it up, break the rules and invent something new. Hope you do wake up in the zone that gets you diggin....

I'd say this music is built to be a struggle for a lot of listeners. It's a feature, not a bug.
