There are Rom Hacks where you can have almost every starter. Here are some examples Radical Red: You can pick any of the 27 starters by choosing which generation/reigon you want to pick from. I picked Mudkip cause its one of the best water starters for the game. Other starters you can get via eggs, special events given by a rival, or catch in the wild. Another good water starter is Popplio thanks to Primariana's fairy typing. Meganium gains the Fairy typing which can be helpful. Best Fire starters besides Charizard are Blaziken, Infernape, or Cinderace with its hidden ability form. Best Grass starters are Bulbasaur, Meowscarada thanks to its hidden ability and pool of coverage moves. Samurott gains the Steel typing in this rom hack Luminscent Platnium: You can get the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn starters all before the first gym so even if you pick Chimchar, you can get both Water and Grass starters before the first gym. In this rom hack Charizard is Fire/Dragon with Levitate so say good bye to its ground weakness, and Blastoise gains the Steel typing. Meganium has Fairy again and Feraligatr has Dark typing, and you can get Hisuian Typhlosion in this hack. Inclement Emerald: Choose which generation/reigon you want to pick from though you can get all starters at the Mauville Game Corner. Samurott gains the Fighting type, Meganium once again gets the Fairy typing, regular Typhlosion becomes Fire/Ground, and Feraligatr once again gets Water/Dark. That rom hack however only goes up to Gen 7 as of right now. GS Chronicles: Only goes up to Gen 4 but can get all starters including now Hisuian Typhlosion. NeoXY: Only goes up to Gen 6 but can get all starters Blaze Black 2 and Volt White 2: Goes up to Gen 5 , Charizard becomes Fire/Dragon and Meganium once again becomes Grass/Fairy
Not to mention the Mystery Dungeon games that generally include all the starters up to date of the game and even some others! Although that is pretty different...
I’d probably put the Eevee from XD gale of darkness in Unova either Games because the first gyms have normal type (😂not including the straiton gyms monkeys) and so the Eevee had equal early game matchups and afterwards you can than decide what way you want eevee to go. I’d place Pikachu in Paldea just because I think having the games mascot in the biggest open world games where you’re Pokémon can be out with you during picnics and stuff it’s iconic. And the umbreon and espeon I don’t know if I’d change because I like having a light and dark themed Pokémon in Orre the place known for shadow Pokémon but if I had to change I’d think I’d do Alola especially Ultra games because The games are literally sun and moon (which eevee changes evolution based on time of day) and the final Necrozma boss might be a tad easier with a dark type to counter and a psychic type to at least resist.
I assume the deciding factor as to where they would perform best (in comparison to one another) would come down to their secondary typing, or lack of. It'll be interesting to see in particular which of the Grass starters would perform in Johto, given how it's rather harsh to them (I'm Chestnaut thanks to Rollout and later Fighting typing). 0:54 - Oh, where would each starting trio thrive the best. An even more interesting question than initially xpected. 1:33 - A bit ironic you say this when Bulbasaur's part Poison typing gives it's neutral damage from both early game Bug and Poison. Still true about the Flying type part though. 2:30 - I love how you even factored in the stats such as Wartortle's high Defence. It shows just how well this has been thought out. 3:55 - So the single type trio fares best in the other region that is home to a single type trio. Rather hilarious. 5:16 - It was so strange that the Kalos starters were passed up for Mega Evolutions. The Hoenn trio end up feeling more fitting for the Kalos region than the Kalos starters themselves as a result. 7:17 - Johto was my pick for the Kalos trio, so unless you're having two trios share the same "best region" I find this Unova pick particularly interesting. 8:09 - There is a repeat... but not the repeat I was expecting. The RPG class theme would fit Galar very well... though Greninja would to be renamed Grehero (I'm sure some Brits here well get that joke). 11:50 - So Unova, Kanto and Hisui are the two mainline regions that go by without an ideal starter trio. What a fun discussion topic!
Delphox casually dominating every region because the evil teams are mostly poison, bug, and occasionally fighting. It even has a little bit of TM coverage to counter the dark types in Hoenn.
I dont know if you have already or not but kinda similar to this... What new starter trios would you make and for what region like arceus, id love to hear your opinion on it!!!
I'm most excited to see if new legends games gives the other Johto, Unova, and Alola starters alternate forms. Im excited to see either Meganium, Emboar and Primarina, or Feraligatr, Serperior, and Incineroar get rebooted like the Hisui mons did.
So I have traded eggs across and I can confirm that Piplup does well in Hoenn. At least in ORAS. Trading in Pokemon from other regions is a lot of fun.
Alola starters in kanto with the alolan forms would be the only time I would consider returning to Kanto one last time cous now kanto would be complete with more now every typing and more than one line for the new/unique lines Instead of FRLG only having one steel line (magnemite) one ghost (gastly) one dragon line dragonite) Now Ghost has rowlet line alolan marowak Dark has litten, regional forms mega gyarados Fairy and dragon representation is now popplio line old normal mons now fairy, alola vulpix line and regional form exegg with mega charizard (f it add my boy poipole and type nulls as a retired UB killers wanting to chill in kanto both as a gift I’m wilding) Also got alola forms for more typing in steel sandshew line and psychic raichu as an extra PSY potential slot if you don’t want to alakazam Basically adding megas like LGPE let’s go meta/Pokédex but with alolan starters, melmetal, megas makes a bigger better game if you give them abilities and items Honestly got hype writing this but we’ll Pokemon is awesome but gamefreak woudve never even had this in mind just satisfied with adding in Pokémon go players and newly introduced melmetal with regional forms to switch 😢😂
I enjoy legions arcus quest, all Pokémon being in the game increasing shiny chance with research for each Pokémon, how even those its more work it so much more fun to do, and the new gameplay.
Funny you had the Unova Starters go to Johto. In the original Black and White games, Lenora was my Whitney. I almost couldn’t beat her because Retaliate was just too OP for a second gym. Thank God I didn’t have to face her in the sequels because that would have been super annoying!
I think if you're going to do the individual Pokemon instead of trios as a followup, you should go through each region and say which Grass, Fire, and Water starters would thrive best against it and assemble new trios, and again as with here not worrying about putting multiple trios in the same game, not worrying about putting the same individual Pokemon as a starter in multiple regions. So first in Kanto, who are the best Grass, Fire, and Water starters? Bulbasaur might still be the best Grass starter but I'm a little inclined to say the best Fire starter would be Fennekin or Litten. Likewise going through all the other regions.
Matching them based of effectiveness is a bit of a boring concept. I’d prefer if you matched them individually based on theme or geography. What it might as well be is predicting the next 6 Legends games starter trios. The obvious ones would’ve Snivy and Piplup being in Kalos since they are French.
In my opinion, Fennekin and Froakie would fit somewhere in Kanto or Jotho cause the Fennekin line could be based of a Miko (Shrine Maiden) and Froakie fits there because of its ninja theme. Maybe Hisuian Decidueye can fit there too. Meowscarada can fit in Hoenn cause of the contests. I would put Incineroar in Unova and Empoleon in Galar. Kalos can have Inteleon.
7:07 Am I the only one who saw that there was an arrow missing from Grass to Water (No, its not missing because of Steel canceling the weakness, otherwise there wouldn't be an arrow from Water to Ground)
Sad to see unova didn't get any starters in this video, so I'd like to submit my own pick! I propose the Paldean starters as the best pick for the first pokemon black & white games, thanks to the elite four! Because of the elite 4's ghost, dark, psychic, fighting combo, each starter has a member they'll struggle against, and a member they will demolish. Quaquaval's fighting type makes it a great choice for Grimsley, while its many flying type moves are a good counter for Marshall, and its water moves can defeat Shauntal's golurk & chandelure. Meowscarada's dark type is ESSENTIAL for the elite 4. It defeats both shauntal and Caitlin handily, while being resistant to Grimsley's dark type moves. Finally is Skeledirge! It destroys Caitlin, is immune to a lot of what Marshall can throw at it, and risking it with shauntal is great fun!
I feel like Meganium (my favorite starter) both fits thematically best in Kalos, and pulls up where Chesnaught’s Fighting type makes it fall short there. Chesnaught (my second favorite) could also do better elsewhere; MAYBE Sinnoh since two of the later gyms are Steel and Ice. It would just have a very hard time against Aaron, Flint, _and_ Lucian, so Galar would probably be a better fit even though I think there are more worthwhile fighting types to choose. My argument for Meganium in Kalos: a) Kalos introduced fairies, and the 6th gym-read: after your starter will be fully evolved-is a Fairy specialist. b) The next highest level gym is Psychic. c) Fighting doesn’t resist Ice, so Chesnaught will do no better defensively in the final gym than Meganium anyway. d) The final elite 4 member _is_ Water, but Siebold’s Starmie has Fairy and STAB Psychic moves, which Meganium isn’t weak to. Meganium doesn’t really do anything better _offensively_ in Kalos, but if you don’t have a Grass/Fighting type, it frees up a space for a better suited fighting type on your team. A lot of people probably want to use the gift Lucario anyway and he takes neutral damage from all three of Chesnaught’s fighting weaknesses due to his Steel type. Plus the fact Meganium has a flower and its secondary color is pink. I feel like it just _looks_ nicer in the Kalos region (and the defensive help is just a substantial bonus.) 🙂🌸
Listen, if Meganium can gain the Fairy type by moving to Kalos I would 100% endorse it! I honestly don't know why it didn't become Fairy, just to preserve the monotype trio I guess, but we have another now anyway so it's pointless...
@@emperorcuboneMeganium does deserve the Fairy type! I didn’t even think of that. They gave it to the ugly Johto bulldog (who’s another one of my favorite Gen II pokemon- it just doesn’t look like most of the pokemon who usually gain the Fairy type) so stiffing the gentle pink flower dino feels personal! *Plus Gen V only has one dual-type starter, so who over at Pokemon actually cares about fairness? I don’t think Meganium actually needs it to be a better matchup in Kalos than Chesnaught, but it WOULD make it an extra great fit for Fairy’s debut region 🩷
Honestly I still don’t even know why Delphox is Psychic instead of Fairy. It would make the starter trio more unbalanced since it’d be good against both the other two but they aren’t balanced anyway with Greninja being fully immune to it… and again, Kalos was Fairy’s debut. I feel like they’d want to give it that sort of spotlight, even just for one generation. Make people want to use it and see how strong it can be, yknow?
@@jasond.b-wI disagree. Delphox is fine and it suit the balance of trio class weakness. I prefer ghost intead , since she a SUPERNATURAL witch. I see psychic as cosmic
@@Watch-0w1 I’ll agree on Ghost, since Greninja is already good against it with its Water type, so being immune to its second type as well is exactly what makes them feel unbalanced to me. Delphox does get Dazzling Gleam to deal with Greninja tbf, but it isn’t STAB and doesn’t change the fact that Greninja has two types over it. My only problem is that it would create the same double disadvantage with Chesnaught instead. (To argue for Fairy Delphox though, Greninja has poison moves that _can_ be STAB with its hidden ability, which would also make it resist Fairy without being immune to it…But going full dark with Protean makes it stop resisting fire so maybe they break almost even in the end.) It’s just an odd trio. I respect what they were going for with it; I think I just don’t like immunities between starters. 🤷
I would really like to see a mix and match trio and the best region for them. Like how well would Blastoise, Chesnaught, and Skeliderge work together. Just an example
Legend unova I think the starter should be Squirtle - turtle in sewer Turtwig - Central Park Litten - all stray ny cat. Hoping the slightly get different 3 stage
Mmm, I don't know that they'd put two turtle starters right next to each other. They'd probably give some variety, so with those two already I'd say maybe Sceptile or Chesnaught...
How would the list change if a Region could only be selected once? IE Once the Johto starters were picked for Galar, Galar became locked in and no other trio could go there? I'm just curious because I saw Sinnoh and Galar mentioned several times, but a couple regions didn't get mentioned at all in the list.
The Lets Go games were essentially starter changing games for the region if you don’t consider Yellow version. Having Eevee is basically using the starter from Gale of Darkness on GC.
Kalos starters in Kanto would be great. Their secondary typings are fantastic in that region . Physical broken. Dark, countering broken psychic, fighting for the abundance of normal types
Honestly since every single starter Pokémon is going to be in scarlet and violet for the first time the last time all starters returned in a game was in ultra sun and moon so in scarlet and violet I'm curious to see how every single starter trio performs in paldea with updates with their movepools, what's the best tera type for every starter that's returning ect I'm curious 🤔😁😁
Would you say the Kanto starters thrive well in Kalos? This video reminded me that you get a choice of the Kanto starters on top of the Kalos ones in X & Y.

It does stand out to me that Paldea has added so many evolutions (and even more in the DLC) and no baby Pokemon anywhere to be seen, so I worry that might be a trend of the past. But there could still be some great options out there!
Mudkip would be the best choice in every single region. you're only ever weak to one gym, and you can almost always get a bug, poison, or flying type before it. even in gen 1 you can get fire or ice types before erika.
Gotta disagree with the point about Gen 4's starters secondary countering eachother. Infernape's fighting and Torterra's ground are both super effective against Empoleon's steel, while Torterra's grass typing cancels out the super effectiveness Empoleon's water might have against its ground type, leaving Empoleon disadvantaged against both its co-starters (discounting any (non-STAB) flying moves you teach it)
True, but Empoleon can also learn strong Ice moves, which Torterra is 4x weak to, so really no need for STAB on that. Plus by your own logic Infernape is just as imbalanced (being weak to the Water and the Ground) but since nobody cares about that one I don't see why Empoleon gets written off so easily.
Only nitpick I have is that Kanto starters would do best in Kalos for... obvious... reasons... They already perform insanely well and you only get them one Gym battle later than usual. Granted Kalos is a cakewalk but even moreso if you have three Mega starters

But mainly because of their strength, size and defense can be off the charts in prehistoric times. They're also new candidates for Strong Jaw. As they have larger tusks that can be strong enough to crumble a mountain in half. And the Sheer Force does fit the unga bunga style while taking on tougher opponents like Tyranitar (Or an Aerodactyl take your pick). And as for the hidden ability, Refrigerate. I can totally see the use of a freezing Hyper Beam blown out of its huge trunk
I have been commenting this for years now but I have to say once again this is a brilliant and creative video idea I have not seen before
Thank you! I try my best, I'm just glad people like the random things I come up with!
Smuggling Pokemon into games they shouldn't be in has always been fun
It's a favorite pass-time of mine!
There are Rom Hacks where you can have almost every starter. Here are some examples
Radical Red: You can pick any of the 27 starters by choosing which generation/reigon you want to pick from. Samurott gains the Steel typing in this rom hack
Luminscent Platnium: You can get the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn starters all before the first gym so even if you pick Chimchar, you can get both Water and Grass starters before the first gym.
NeoXY: Only goes up to Gen 6 but can get all starters
Blaze Black 2 and Volt White 2: Goes up to Gen 5 , Charizard becomes Fire/Dragon and Meganium once again becomes Grass/Fairy
Not to mention the Mystery Dungeon games that generally include all the starters up to date of the game and even some others! Although that is pretty different...
Very fun video idea!! I love all your picks and I definitely wanna do runs if these games with the starters you picked!
This is a really interesting video idea!
I like the idea of Johto Starters being at Kanto because Chikorita may be much helpful
Another great creative concept!
Haha, that's a good point; Delphox is the Evil Team slayer!
Except for Aqua I guess, with its Water and Dark types...
Galar starter and a unique bunch they deserve more love
They tried something different and I respect them for that
At least it’s not fire fighting
Okay, but for real. I would sooooo play every single region with these shuffled starters just for the experience!
1:22 that applies for every generation
So when people say Pokémon needs a difficulty settings
They don’t realize it’s always had it
Not exactly you can still catch every other Pokémon and most starters learn a lot of good moves Especially the ones from newer games
A good video would be what different combo of starters would be best in each region
Just imagine if they had Rilaboom in the islands. Team Skull would probably love it(I think)
I dont know if you have already or not but kinda similar to this... What new starter trios would you make and for what region like arceus, id love to hear your opinion on it!!!
Thank you, I don't think I've done a topic quite like that before, but it could be interesting!
@@emperorcubone yeah! Super excited to see!!!
I'm most excited to see if new legends games gives the other Johto, Unova, and Alola starters alternate forms. Im excited to see either Meganium, Emboar and Primarina, or Feraligatr, Serperior, and Incineroar get rebooted like the Hisui mons did.
Yes please, Meganium needs this so bad!
Anyone know where the map at 1:06 is from?!!!
So I have traded eggs across and I can confirm that Piplup does well in Hoenn. At least in ORAS.
Trading in Pokemon from other regions is a lot of fun.
Absolutely! I've played HGSS at least a dozen times doing that with Pokemon you can't normally get!
what is the map at 1:09 ?
Alola starters in kanto with the alolan forms would be the only time I would consider returning to Kanto one last time cous now kanto would be complete with more now every typing and more than one line for the new/unique lines
Instead of FRLG only having one steel line (magnemite) one ghost (gastly) one dragon line dragonite)
Now Ghost has rowlet line alolan marowak
Dark has litten, regional forms mega gyarados
Fairy and dragon representation is now popplio line old normal mons now fairy, alola vulpix line and regional form exegg with mega charizard (f it add my boy poipole and type nulls as a retired UB killers wanting to chill in kanto both as a gift I’m wilding)
Also got alola forms for more typing in steel sandshew line and psychic raichu as an extra PSY potential slot if you don’t want to alakazam
Basically adding megas like LGPE let’s go meta/Pokédex but with alolan starters, melmetal, megas makes a bigger better game if you give them abilities and items
Honestly got hype writing this but we’ll Pokemon is awesome but gamefreak woudve never even had this in mind just satisfied with adding in Pokémon go players and newly introduced melmetal with regional forms to switch 😢😂
4:02 Nessa is really hard for a begginer player, her Drednaw can set up rain and has Swift Swim
Eh for me as someone who picked scorbunny the biggest issue with nessa was doing her puzzle
Around 10:15 what song is that?😊
SAME! I had way more trouble with that waterfall puzzle than the battle itself... (the song is Poni Plains)
@emperorcubone I have played sword and shield multiple times, but every time the puzzle stumps me for half an hour, at least
1:46 Why are the Separatists from Star Wars counted among the roster of evil Pokémon team?
Are you disagreeing? The admin fight against Ventress was especially tough, but Grievous while initially intimidating was a bit of a pushover...
Emperor cubome:: the Paldea starters would do great in Sinnoh
Aaron: hold my beer
They are that’s why they were placed there in the first place 0:40 GF is really consistent with that stuff they get the lore right every time
Is at 1:07 ? Is that a fan region or from a spin off?
That is actually Almia from Pokemon Ranger!
7:07 Am I the only one who saw that there was an arrow missing from Grass to Water
(No, its not missing because of Steel canceling the weakness, otherwise there wouldn't be an arrow from Water to Ground)
My argument for Meganium in Kalos:
a) Kalos introduced fairies, and the 6th gym-read: after your starter will be fully evolved-is a Fairy specialist.
b) The next highest level gym is Psychic.
c) Fighting doesn’t resist Ice, so Chesnaught will do no better defensively in the final gym than Meganium anyway.
d) The final elite 4 member _is_ Water, but Siebold’s Starmie has Fairy and STAB Psychic moves, which Meganium isn’t weak to.
(To argue for Fairy Delphox though, Greninja has poison moves that _can_ be STAB with its hidden ability, which would also make it resist Fairy without being immune to it…But going full dark with Protean makes it stop resisting fire so maybe they break almost even in the end.)
It’s just an odd trio. I respect what they were going for with it; I think I just don’t like immunities between starters. 🤷
Ik the shadows of almia map when I see it absolute favorite non main series game
This is a ridiculously fun idea
Chikorita: anything but Johto! PLEASE!
I would really like to see a mix and match trio and the best region for them. Like how well would Blastoise, Chesnaught, and Skeliderge work together. Just an example
So Unova is nightmare for any existing combo of starters😂. Had most fun and challenge in Unova region till now. Even Emerald was comparitively easier.
"any grass typo would struggle against johto first two gym leaders"
Rowlet: Am I a joke to you?
I mean, it's not like Flying resists Flying. But yeah, he would do great against Bugsy.
Legend unova I think the starter should be
Squirtle - turtle in sewer
Turtwig - Central Park
Litten - all stray ny cat.
Hoping the slightly get different 3 stage
Mmm, I don't know that they'd put two turtle starters right next to each other. They'd probably give some variety, so with those two already I'd say maybe Sceptile or Chesnaught...
Switched Squirtle with Totodile
Will suite better since Unova is 🇺🇲
And Alligator was common thing in 🇺🇲
@@emperorcubonesceptile is good for the big ny Christmas tree
@@ZeroDarkness-thinking gator is from Florida and I want to give nub to ninja turtle ( or cap American turtle fanart)
What about which indivitual starters for each region and no overlaping so each region needs the best three starters that match them overall
I like this video. If you ever do a sequel, you should use them individually and split the trio's. I think that could be fun
That would add a whole new level of complexity, that could be quite interesting!
6:31 thunder punch go brrr
How would the list change if a Region could only be selected once? IE Once the Johto starters were picked for Galar, Galar became locked in and no other trio could go there? I'm just curious because I saw Sinnoh and Galar mentioned several times, but a couple regions didn't get mentioned at all in the list.
Hmm, It probably would have made the Paldea starters go to Kanto, leaving the Gen 6 ones to tackle Unova...
Imo, Alolan starter in Kanto would be incredible.
10:38 rillaboom literally has 60 sp. atk
This video just makes me sad that some of these combinations are impossible. As in you can’t use some of these starters in certain regions
That's what the modders are for I guess...
The Lets Go games were essentially starter changing games for the region if you don’t consider Yellow version. Having Eevee is basically using the starter from Gale of Darkness on GC.
True! I'd love to see that done fo other regions in the future!
Kalos starters in Kanto would be great. Their secondary typings are fantastic in that region . Physical broken. Dark, countering broken psychic, fighting for the abundance of normal types
Great video
Would you imagine what would it be like if you would have to choose between every single starter in Pokémon history
That would be quite tricky, but it would be a fun idea!
interesting video concept
Honestly since every single starter Pokémon is going to be in scarlet and violet for the first time the last time all starters returned in a game was in ultra sun and moon so in scarlet and violet I'm curious to see how every single starter trio performs in paldea with updates with their movepools, what's the best tera type for every starter that's returning ect I'm curious 🤔😁😁
Would you say the Kanto starters thrive well in Kalos? This video reminded me that you get a choice of the Kanto starters on top of the Kalos ones in X & Y.
It's true, Kalos is the only region so far to to give you two sets of starters (at least before the Elite Four that is...)
What if the starters were swapped with other starters of the type?
Just a thought.
E.g Mudkip swaps with Piplup etc.
Ik you mah not play competitive but id like to add some would be goods in gen 9 post dlc
Serperior, everyone is bracing for this demon already despite beimg wave 2
Incin, i domt need to explain
Meganium, hear me out, depending on new moves and tera it could FUNCTION
1:06 which region is that?xd
I believe it's Almia from Pokemon Ranger.
I would love to go through a region with nothing but bird starters; Rowlet, Torchic and Piplup (sorry, Quaxly).
Hah, that would be a super fun trio! Their secondary types would make it interesting too.
@@emperorcubone oh, yeah! Ghost, Steel and Fighting. They don’t make another type triangle, though.
Greninja does slot in well for Galar being that the Isles of Armor have a heavy Japanese inspiration
I'd like to see you place reach individual starter in is best region!
What about the unova region???
I don't think I've seen a video like this before
That's the goal! I just hope people enjoy it!
This list of changes also works thematically for most of the starters.
Funny how no one's best region is Unova
Huh, which starter group wuld do best in Unova.
Video idea: top pokemon that deserve a baby form!
It does stand out to me that Paldea has added so many evolutions (and even more in the DLC) and no baby Pokemon anywhere to be seen, so I worry that might be a trend of the past. But there could still be some great options out there!
I once beat Gen 2 remakes with only the Water type Starter. Just couldn’t beat Red on Mt silver, and never managed to beat him since.
Mudkip would be the best choice in every single region. you're only ever weak to one gym, and you can almost always get a bug, poison, or flying type before it. even in gen 1 you can get fire or ice types before erika.
Pikachu and Eevee Unova Espeon and Umbreon Alola
I like the sound of that!
Granted, Hoenn starters also love Kalos. You could solo the game with your event Torchic on release
Alola starters to Johto, Rowlett will do quite ok vs Falkner and Bugsy
So true, he's the only Grass starter that would stand a chance...
I would place Pikachu in Johto since it does well agianst Falkner, Bugsy and I would place Espeon and Umbreon in Hoenn.
Those are good options! I actually traded over a Pikachu immediately in HGSS and it did amazing the whole time so you're right!
