The thing you need to realise is that certain classes are actually mistranslations of their japanese names or are alterations of current classes. what we know as the burglar is known in Japan as a "Post-fire Burglar" as over there, Break-ins and robberies more commonly happen immediately after arson, after the building is abandoned. The reason the bug maniac and bug catcher exists is the same reason for the veteran and ace/cooltrainer to exist. it acknowleges the older fanbase (as pokemon was based on Tajiri's love for entomology and bug collecting) Surfers weren't introduced until Alola (Despite water routes being introduced forever ago) because Hawaii puts a big emphasis on surfing as a rite of passage. The bandit is specifically based on a criminal outlaw from a western movie, including the rough quality of life, living and camping in the middle of nowhere. Before you complain that some classes reuse older concepts (Like bug maniacs, bandits, veterans etc) you have to understand what they are referring to by looking at the english translation of their names from other regions.
The only pokemon trainer class I have a problem with is the "Gym trainer" from Galar. all gym's use this as the class for the challenge despite all the types used having pre-existing classes. below is the list of those classes Grass: Gardener, Aroma Lady Water: Swimmer (Male and female), Swimmers (One male, one female), Swimmer girls (Two female) Fire: Firebreather Ghost: Hex maniac, medium Fighting: Black belt, crush girl, battle girl Fairy: Fairytale girl, mysterious sisters (The fact that they didn't use the fairytale girls in Galar when the british isles are known for their rich folklore and mythology is disappointing) ice: Snowboarder, skier rock: Ruin Maniac Dragon: Dragon tamer
Hey, I like all the different athlete trainers in gen 5. To see them all, you had to visit the stadiums at different times to catch their practices. It’s a lot like finding certain Pokémon only at night or the morning. But they serve as a fun little Easter egg that just made Unova feel so much more alive. Like Anville Town, you can miss them entirely, but that’s what makes them feel like a reward for exploration. And they did take effort to make. They aren’t just adding a bat to the youngster. They made different ones to reflect a bunch of sports in America. Seeing an American football player in the game was pretty neat, imo.
I do like the Hikers as they have been in every Mainline Pokémon game in one form or another and their Pokémon type specially has been very consistent using Rock, ground, fighting and Steel type Pokémon with the Exception of Hiker David who uses a Magmar. I also like that their look hadn’t changed much from gen 1 - 6 keeping their big but also gentle look
when i was a kid, i found the gen 3 birdkeeper trainers attractive and i pretended a certain birdkeeper on the road to fortree was my boyfriend. he spoke real sweetly so i made him my bf
Bug Catcher are kids, Bug Maniacs are adults. So, there is a reason why they exist. Further more, the Bug Maniacs, as adults, have a job of studying Bug Type Pokemon. So, they are researchers as such. Bug Catchers are just kids playing around catching insects like many kids do when they are young. I cannot defend the creepyness of them though. That part was not needed.
The joggers I remember not learning about until accidentally running past one when playing my DS on vacation where timezone was different than I was used to.. and it was obviously disappointing since I was already like a gym and a half stronger than I was meant to be for that area.. honestly the time sensitive trainers should scale just in case, would be cool to go to an early route and still have a random dude that is a challenge because you weren't awake at the right time until a later date The Unova sports trainers.. god I remember not even knowing some could be battled since.. sometimes the areas were closed.. or only 1 of the trainers in the BIG STADIUM was a battler and so accidentally skipped them since.. large empty area made up most of it xD I never thought of PLA as part of gen 8 until now.. so gen 8 really has a variety eh? A more standard game that finally actually focused on the gym stuff and then a game that diverged and gave us some open world gameplay..
When you brought up the dancers my first thought was if I was a dancer in the pokemon universe I'd use a Ludicolo, not only are they amazing dancers but their one of my favorites
12:40 "A power spot (パワースポット or pawa-supotto in Japanese) is an area where spiritual visitors can take in the energy of the Earth and experience healing, generate good luck, or rejuvenate a tired body and soul" It's a tourism term, nothing to do with max raid dens.
Since bug catching is a stereotype for hobbies of young japanese kids, especially boys, and is the origin story of pokemon, I guess you could argue that Bug Maniacs symbolize those adults that never let go of their childhood obsessions. Which is kinda ironic, considering how many adults still play pokemon, albeit less frequently. Anyways, best trainer is that one dude with 6 magicarps in every game. I admire the resolve and await the day they show up with 6 gyarados (or however you spell the english name).
The region-specific trainer classes are pretty niche so it makes sense that they would be in their perspective games, however, you can't overlook the Ace and Veteran trainers, because they are the best of the best (relatively speaking) so if you're facing them, it means you're far into the game.
I actually did encounter the Jogger class as for whatever reason as a kid I set my clock in Silver to really late so I ended encountering joggers while I was playing in the afternoon.

What irks me about the Bug Maniacs, of Gen 3 in particular, is how in Ruby & Sapphire? One of them is named Brandon. I forget readily if you can rematch him or not, but I think so,... But he was arguably the most annoying one simply because he shared my name. Though I feel like his dialogue wasn't up to par either. At least once Emerald came out, there wasa new Bug Maniac around; as well as Pyramid King Brandon! Who was even awesome in the anime too
Just thought of this with you mentioning how ace trainers sometimes have starters, how is this the case? From what we know every trainer is given a starter, so are we to assume you, your rival and a couple of other trainers are the only ones who like them? Suggesting starters are the least liked pokemon in the pokeworld as most people dump them? Or should we consider that different places give different starters, meaning these ace trainers are all from your home town too? So many questions from one little thought...
You're kind of missing the point with the gen 1 jugglers. The are stereotypical frauds, and they use psychic types to hold up their balls. They also have an... interesting... name in the Japanese version of gen 1. I do agree that using round Pokémon is better.

Missed opportunity for a joke at the beginning. “Maybe you’re a Ruin Maniac who likes ground types. Or maybe you’re a Ruin Maniac who likes… Steel types? Who designed this repeat class?”
Ehhh... the nobility was less of a trainer class and more like a gimmick inside the Battle Chateau. It was supposed to show other people participating there. Which is why you would get people like gym leaders saying how they were nobility too. Great video tough!
Yeah it's not a trainer class, it's like 12. That's the problem. Furthermore it sort of cheapens the actual cream of the crop like the Gym Leaders if they can have the same rank as a random Maid, so maybe only give those titles to characters we already know?

If you defeat them they would let you proceed on first (road block due to lack of badges can come later) but if you are defeted you lose money and some items and will be sent to the current city's pokemon centre.
Right? That would fit into the open world perfectly both for story and gameplay reasons...
The Cooltrainer/Ace Trainer Class has always been an all-time favorite for me 😎💪
The jugglers in gen 1 were originally called gypsies. Thats why they have psychics, because they were levitating the balls nit juggling
After you said, "Delibird," my husband laughed and was a like, "A what?" I said, "Have you really not heard anyone said it like that? He says it like that because that it 'Delibird' the packages."
Thank you! People act like I'm stupid but I've clearly thought about it. It makes more sense than working at a deli...
@@emperorcubone What's a "deli", anyway?
@@robertlupa8273 A sandwich shop.
It may just be me, but when I played through ultra sun, I actively avoided at least one of every trainer class so I can always see their unique models and animations.
I'm surprised you remembered Joggers, who there are multiple of, but not Idol, of which there's only one and she only appears in Pokemon Centers (or Jubilife TV in non-Platinum Sinnoh games, which makes it even more likelythat you'll miss her). Though I guess Idol is a more unique concept than a Jogger, so... they're still the worst. :P
This summarizes all my thoughts on the issue...
Super excited!! Your videos are always amazing
Wasn't the juggler originally called the gypsy? Which... I can see why they changed.
That could be the Japanese name I suppose.
Some trainer classes are really redundant. Just give more variations of pokemon rangers and we'll be fine.👍
I'd be down for that.
I've actually always used the 6 magikarps trainer for decent early game exp XD
Maybe on like the one underleveled thing on the team, or as a way to help your Metapod or something, but Magikarp are always so low on experience...
@@emperorcubone Hey, 6 Speed EVs are nothing to sneeze at, even if the EXP itself is rather low.
Anyone else bothered by how his tone changes when he does his outro? I get that the majority of his viewers may be kids since he's a pokemon channel and he's been doing outros like that for years, but it just makes my hairs stand up every time I reach the end of his videos
I am. It's a bit jarring.
I like bug catchers simply because I play as bug gym leader on sword and shield.
Their designs are so cool and need to be appreciated much more especially the gen V range.
Love the pidgey hole line too
For gen 1 I think that Juggler isn't bad, it's just a matter of it not nailing what it is supposed to be. But in the other hand, Tamers are pretty lame, and there's a reason why they were dropped so hard. Not to mention the Engineer and Gambler classes which are so forgetable because they just exist next to Vermillion.
Rockers would be even more forgettable if they didn't look so cool in FRLG.
@@robertlupa8273 i mean, its true, but its a good class for normal and electric types that would pop up eventually
@@jpcsdutra I think you're confusing Rockers with Guitarists. Rockers are the guys with cables who only appeared in Kanto-centric games. The only time a Rocker has ever used a Normal type was in Stadium and it was... Porygon and Kangaskhan.
@@robertlupa8273 you are absolutely right, I completely forgot they existed
The thing you need to realise is that certain classes are actually mistranslations of their japanese names or are alterations of current classes.
what we know as the burglar is known in Japan as a "Post-fire Burglar" as over there, Break-ins and robberies more commonly happen immediately after arson, after the building is abandoned.
The reason the bug maniac and bug catcher exists is the same reason for the veteran and ace/cooltrainer to exist. it acknowleges the older fanbase (as pokemon was based on Tajiri's love for entomology and bug collecting)
Surfers weren't introduced until Alola (Despite water routes being introduced forever ago) because Hawaii puts a big emphasis on surfing as a rite of passage.
This. Pokemon is a Japanese franchise.
The only pokemon trainer class I have a problem with is the "Gym trainer" from Galar. all gym's use this as the class for the challenge despite all the types used having pre-existing classes. below is the list of those classes
Grass: Gardener, Aroma Lady
Water: Swimmer (Male and female), Swimmers (One male, one female), Swimmer girls (Two female)
Fire: Firebreather
Ghost: Hex maniac, medium
Fighting: Black belt, crush girl, battle girl
Fairy: Fairytale girl, mysterious sisters (The fact that they didn't use the fairytale girls in Galar when the british isles are known for their rich folklore and mythology is disappointing)
ice: Snowboarder, skier
rock: Ruin Maniac
Dragon: Dragon tamer
Ah, finally made it to 100K.
Nice to see. Been here a while.
Exactly! I agree completely. I felt it added an element of world building and made sense for a New York City-based region.
I'd like to mention that his trainer class is "Pokemon" and his name is "Professor Sycamore"
Oh, good catch! He's actually a Ditto...
Hi Mann nice Video i Love youre Videos Plesse Keep Up the great Work we Love you and that Video is great ❤️
I do like the Hikers as they have been in every Mainline Pokémon game in one form or another and their Pokémon type specially has been very consistent using Rock, ground, fighting and Steel type Pokémon with the Exception of Hiker David who uses a Magmar.
This is so cute haha
Bug Catcher are kids, Bug Maniacs are adults. So, there is a reason why they exist. Further more, the Bug Maniacs, as adults, have a job of studying Bug Type Pokemon. So, they are researchers as such. Bug Catchers are just kids playing around catching insects like many kids do when they are young.
I cannot defend the creepyness of them though. That part was not needed.
The joggers I remember not learning about until accidentally running past one when playing my DS on vacation where timezone was different than I was used to.. and it was obviously disappointing since I was already like a gym and a half stronger than I was meant to be for that area.. honestly the time sensitive trainers should scale just in case, would be cool to go to an early route and still have a random dude that is a challenge because you weren't awake at the right time until a later date
The Unova sports trainers.. god I remember not even knowing some could be battled since.. sometimes the areas were closed.. or only 1 of the trainers in the BIG STADIUM was a battler and so accidentally skipped them since.. large empty area made up most of it xD
I never thought of PLA as part of gen 8 until now.. so gen 8 really has a variety eh? A more standard game that finally actually focused on the gym stuff and then a game that diverged and gave us some open world gameplay..
Great video bro keep it up
When you brought up the dancers my first thought was if I was a dancer in the pokemon universe I'd use a Ludicolo, not only are they amazing dancers but their one of my favorites
Legit did not know about the Joggers until this video.
Yeah, they're super low key...
12:40
"A power spot (パワースポット or pawa-supotto in Japanese) is an area where spiritual visitors can take in the energy of the Earth and experience healing, generate good luck, or rejuvenate a tired body and soul"
It's a tourism term, nothing to do with max raid dens.
Um... A happy coincidence, then?
Woah Pokémon Ranger was buried deep into my subconscious 😭
9:57 Sorta like the weather
I like how ruin maniacs changed from ground-rock type to rock-steel type over the time. Thanks to Steven
Love trainer class talk
Shout out to the burglar class from Gen 2, they were always funny when they were like "Gimme your Pokemon"
Might be “coincidental” but Lockstin & Gnoggin is making the same type of vids too
I'll be honest I rarely follow Lockstin because I don't have time, but if he's doing a series or something then he doesn't have to worry cause I said everything about it in this one video...
Weird thing is with the jogger time restriction it is such a good detail of them only being active in the morning. A time span where most people will be jogging. It's low key smart and I like it haha
"Pidgey-holed" - hehe! ☺️😂
One for the fans!
How to you do Jugglers dirty like that when one of them says “Dropped my balls” upon losing. 😹
Next video: top best and worse battle frontier opponents
You're kind of missing the point with the gen 1 jugglers. The are stereotypical frauds, and they use psychic types to hold up their balls. They also have an... interesting... name in the Japanese version of gen 1.
I do agree that using round Pokémon is better.
Glad to see my trainer class being represented well😌
What can I say? You earned it!
Surprised Hex Maniac didn’t win for Gen 6 tbh
12:24 where are those images from? I can never find them whenever I search for them!
I dunno, I just Googled 'em a few years back and had them ever since...
When I hear ranger I mainly think of gen 5 and the mountain of berries you rack up from defeating them.
One of the coolest classes to me is PKMN/Pokemon Trainer class that Red has. After all of his accomplishments, he isn't described as Champion Red, but just a simple pokemon trainer. Just like you were when you began your journey.
He's quite humble, it makes me speechless...
Least favorite: trainers that have four to six magikarp.
You should start a top 6 list of problems you have with the Paldea Region.
Channelers and Mediums are not really the same thing tho.
The former are more akin to shrine priestesses and Mediums are more regarded as "everyday" older women with spiritual affinities.
Missed opportunity for a joke at the beginning. “Maybe you’re a Ruin Maniac who likes ground types. Or maybe you’re a Ruin Maniac who likes… Steel types? Who designed this repeat class?”
Didn't the Veteran class of trainers first appear in gen 3 but were called Expert Trainers instead?
Ehhh... the nobility was less of a trainer class and more like a gimmick inside the Battle Chateau.
@@emperorcubone Why do random maids have those titles, anyway? It's kinda weird how such a servant can be a noble too.
Y O U N G S T E R J O E Y
I doubt the mimikyu shirt was intentional, I still love it though
I thought that the sky trainer class was pretty cool. I like how they only use flying types, or pokemon with levitate. It made pokemon battles more interesting.
The bandit was in the cinnabar mansion in red and blue
As I said, those were the "burglars" which is a different class.
@@emperorcubone ohhhhh ok ,sorry I didn’t catch that
Fun fact: The juggler class's original Japanese name was an ethnic slur. Said slur could be related to their use of psychic types.
I never knew the Tourist class hinted towards new regions like that, I’m about to go through Sword and Shield again looking for maybe any extra insight into Scarlet and Violet
14:19 "pidgey-holed" lmao
The worst for me is all tamers battle in Temtem since you can’t avoid them 99% of the time.
I'll uh, take your word for it...
@@emperorcubone I see you never played the game
Even worse is that they aren't even low level or anything. You have to take every single freaking battle seriously.
Nice video. I like the debate.
Just one thing. The "s" in Viscount is silent. So it's pronounced "Vi-count"
Yeah, I kinda figured, but then I thought they don't deserve the respect of saying it properly...
@@emperorcubone Oh. Lol. That's fine.
I wouldn't have minded, if they were better handled.
So long as they don't talk about how much they like shorts. XD
12:48 Why is the Aegean coast of Turkey is included in a Greek region?
Maybe it's like Kanto and Johto?
@@emperorcubone I hope
Nah the worst gen 4 one was the ninja kids.
Like I am trying to blindly navigate a route here because of my blatant refusal to try and read Uknown script. I don't need to be jumped more than I already am.
It'd be cool if when the Bandit class beats you, it takes more money than usual
That would imply I ever lose a Pokemon battle... But yes, that would be cool actually...
