This video quickly shows you how to install your Cat Security Shield on a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. This kit is made by Cap City Muffler and can be found on their website at GetCatSecurity.com.
A Cat-Security Shield is a super effective product to keep would-be thieves from being able to steal your valuable catalytic converters. This is a huge problem for truck owners since cat thieves have plenty of room to crawl up under your rig without the need for a jack..

Just put this on my Tundra front and back and feel much better about leaving it in the driveway. CCM customer service was great and I think you will love the product too.
Insurance companies should be giving out full reimbursements for these type of devices.
Very true!
Living in Iowa the rust belt I would paint any drilled out hole. Hell our rust rusts here.
I just had my TWO (2006 Tacoma) converters stolen- cost $4200 to replace with adding rebar welded to the whole system- a month without my work truck- just got this Cat Security delivered and adding this over the rebar and another screeching alarm I added from Fast Guard Alarms- come and get em' pricks!
Thanks for this explanation of how to install!
Thanks for the comment, I'll have to look into the Fast Guard Alarm to see if that's something I'd like to add to my set-up
I wish thieves can watch this and feel salty so we can laugh and talk shit about them since they can't steal our converters. Awesome video.
Just installed mine. Thanks for the video. Took longer to find my tools than the install
Agreed! It was the same situation for me as well
Isn't that always the case, lol...so true
😂 I guess that’s normal. I know where all my tools are. Just can’t find them at the moment doin project 😅
This is my first time watching your channel. I just wanted to give more than an average Thumbs Up man. You were very thorough and spoke clearly! Sounds funny.I know but as someone that uses RUclips alot to gain knowledge it does make a huge difference . Although This particular brand of Cat Shield is ]hogh priced it is surely a quality product. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know your efforts are greatly appreciated (
Appreciated and wish you the best!
Hey thanks! That means a lot. My Channel is kind of all over the place right now but I do try to make easy to follow videos without a lot of “fluff” or filler. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
Thank you for the review. I just bought a cat security cage because both my catalytic converters were cut off right where I live. I plan to install this myself, so this was helpful in seeing what I need!
That sucks they got your converters.. These shields should help out, but they aren’t a guaranteed fix however. I’ve heard some people say they have added insurance onto their converters but haven’t looked into this myself yet..
Just purchased the Cali raised much easier install and your transmission and other maintenance items are accessible all bolt on and NO drilling and much better air flow
Hello Wesley. Nice job installing. Pretty much walked us all the way through. I may give this a try too, for my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport. In the summer. Still too cold here.
Hey Troy! Thanks for the comment. Yeah it’s pretty chilly here in NC still, but I got lucky and caught a couple of warm days.
I actually tried to do an Italian Burnoff by running cat cleaner thru a plugged cat to try to clean it out. Got it so hot my o2 wiring caught fire and spread to main wire harness of my tacoma. Brake lines even boiled over and I lost brakes at 75 mph coming off the freeway. Had to replace the emissions computer too, due to heat damage.. adding a shield to a healthy cat adds heat. Fires are very real and risky if your cat overheats with a shield on it... you got be careful. I caused $2500 in damage to my truck when my cat overheated. Almost burned my truck up
Hi, this is absolutely awesome deterrent and looks great good for you,
Hey, thanks for the comment!
Great Video very clear instructions ordering mine today.
Thanks! And good luck with your install
Thank you for this video, just finished installing mine and it was great help. One thing that did happen to me was the supplied bit snapped after tightening just 3 bolts. Using a normal powered drill on low tq setting. I recommend buying a socket type security t40. It made everything so much easier and I was able to tq them in really good. I also subbed the blue loctite for red 271 just for extra piece of mind and security.
Wow that’s crazy. Hopefully it was just a defective bit or something. Thanks for the tip though!
Don't use the red loctite on the nutserts. You will have a very hard time removing those screws if you ever have to remove them, the nutserts will start spinning and you will not be able to remove the bolts. Then you will have to drill them out. It has happened to me a few times and I didn't even use the red loctite. After that I used anti seize on those bolts with nutserts.
@@juliodavid49 well thats the point, i don’t want them to come off or someone else take them off 🤷🏻♂️. I am prepared to cut and fix it if I ever need it off. I have plenty of spare nutserts
Hi American guy, are there any stats to say installing shields can help prevent Catalytic Converters. I’ve got a RAV4 Hybrid and I’m thinking of getting the Miller shield.
Happy nu year from NZ.
Hey, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I don’t have any stats to provide. I’m sure any type of shield will make yours less desirable of a theft job than the car beside you though.
@@WesleyAllenNC You make a very good point Wesley.
Thanks for this video! It was super informative.
Your welcome! I’m glad it helped out
If they really want it they’ll take it. I went to a muffler shop he welded some cages and i also painted them (shops wont accept sanded down cats) It’s more to discourage them. He only charged me 100$ since it was scraps.
Nice job on the instructions and video!
Hey thanks!
Hi Wes, are there any other devices to keep the cat secure? My neighbor had his Ford truck cat stolen recently! Thanks for sharing this great device!
Very thorough video and clearly explained. Looks like a nice product. Does it interfere with any skidplates on the Tacoma? I am concerned about heat buildup and was wondering if I could mill some additional slots in the aluminum for more air. Without the shield in front of me is there good locations by the cats for more air. Thanks for putting this out there.
I'm sorry for the delay. This product did not interfere with my skid plate. I also haven't had any issues with heat build-up but there's certainly nothing stopping you from drilling additional ventilation holes..
Thanks for the great video. Could you get away with installing it without the 4 drilled holes?
Thanks for a thorough job and the helpful tips?
Meant to have a '!', not a '?'.
Lol! Thanks and your welcome
Thank you. Very appreciated info.
Your welcome!
Love it u are best thanks for sharing.
Hey thanks!
Would like to tell you, our 2021 Tacoma catalytic converter been stolen from the parking lot of the Eos Gym. I am so mad.!!!
That is why I ended looking for anti theft thing!
Yikes, I'm sorry for your loss. That's such a hassle!
it Stopped no one With a friend of mine he parked his truck same as yours same install with the special bolts The person or people were pretty prepared and did the whole shield And stole the shield too And took the two cats.. Check your insurance company and pay the extra few dollars you have to pay for to cover the cats if they have it they cost me an extra few dollars every six months to have special insurance on the cats..And it's covered in full I believe 10 or five dollars every six months I'm sure it depends on your location..
Damn that sucks. It’s for sure more of a deterrent than a solution. People can steal anything with the right tools, time and determination. Good to know about the insurance option though. I’ll probably call my insurance company and check on that myself!

I see two eyes, wide mouth, long wide body, long arms, hand, belly button, short leg and foot. 😊
My local muffler shop told me that his insurance told him to stop installing cat shields (or they would drop him) because of the fire hazard that results from having one on. Something about not enough ventilation or something. Just wanted to know if maybe he was talking about different (older) cat shields with faulty designs. Thanks.
That’s what I’m thinking too when I see these cat shields. Maybe drill out more holes for ventilation
I can not see why this would be true?
What insurance company? 😳

Toyota makes a factory one you can order directly from..
What will prevent the thieves from cutting the plate with the saws all I've seen used? It seems like that's their cutting tool of choice.
It really just makes it harder to get to than the next truck beside you
Yea, it's a deterrent. I had to cut mine a little bit to fit, and although slow, the dremel can get through. The idea is that it would make it take like 5 times longer (with a loud grinder) to get to the cat, so they'd just target the next truck down the street.
I need one of these!! My neighbors cat was stolen recently, but it's only a matter of time until these thieves start getting their own key and Makita this thing off. 😭
Agreed. If they really want it their gonna get it. It just makes you a harder target than the next vehicle is all..
Have you had any issue with the cat overheating from the shield ? I just bought the cat security today, I’m hoping it won’t cause any overheating issue.
I haven't had any issues personally. Haven't heard of this issue yet..
Question about all these cat shields: If they are installed with a star bit, isn't it relatively easy to remove with the same? All a thief has to do is have a few of these in his kit and he only is slowed down a minute or two, or however long it takes to undo a dozen bolts with an impact driver.
Honest question. Not trying to troll.
My cat was stolen and it took 4 months to replace. A witness says they got it in less than two minutes on a public street.
I'm in the process of finding protection for it. As far as I tentatively understand, it's not at all unlikely to break through and steal the cat, it just makes it too risky to spend the time to do it. _Hopefully._
You make a valid point. Nothing is full proof. It’s more the hope the thieves go onto easier pickings. I might buy some orange heat resistant paint for the cat.
Feel free to ask any questions. (And thanks for tuning in!)
Good morning, is your Tacoma 2wd? Got mine for my 4wd Taco but is missing the small plate
@@freezingjibaro5550 yes mine is 2WD. I guess the 4wd’s don’t need this plate?
@@WesleyAllenNC thanks for answering, I think is because the driveshaft goes on the 4wd where the small plates go on yours
cool! But the thing is though. Thieves use a sawsall to cut the cat out. That saw will cut through aluminum with no problems.
Nice 👍🏾 job
Hey thanks!
Mine got stole in May. I have to wait 4 months to get my truck back.
Dang. that’s terrible.. Sorry to hear that
I see you didn't use jack stands. Hopefully, it was because you knew there was enough ground clearance not to get crushed and not because of laziness.
If we’re gonna start spending this much might as well chain a Rottweiler to the bumper.
💀 💀
What material is this made of? It looks thin and if it isn't stainless steel or something very tough it seems they could cut that off also.
It’s a full aluminum plate, lightweight and very effective at deterring cat thieves.
I didnt get the tiny individual parts on the side of the shield. Could it be that your truck a 2wd?
That’s exactly what it is. I didn’t realize there was a difference in the 2WD vs 4wd kits when I made the video
@@WesleyAllenNC thanks for responding so quickly. You the real mvp bro
i have a question will that plate fit a toyota fj cruiser thanks
So I have a lifted 2020 tacoma, will the cat security shield still fit my truck?
As long as you didn’t add some sort of bracing or lift component in the areas where the plate mounts you’ll be fine.
Hi Wes, I was just wondering if they make a Cat Security Shield for a 2003 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, hope to hear from you take care.
I did some brief searching and didn’t turn up any promising results. It doesn’t look like getcatsecurity.com makes pre-runner shields. I’ll keep my eyes peeled and report back if I find something in the future!
@@WesleyAllenNC Thank so much Wes, I really appreciate you getting back in touch with me & letting me know. You take care & stay healthy. 👍
@@jeffhess7130 Your welcome! And thanks. Hopefully someone will produce your year/model soon!
Interesting! Do you have to remove it for oil changes?
Sorry for the delay! You don’t have to remove it to change your oil. (But it will keep someone from accidentally draining their transmission fluid!)
I have this on my 21 Tacoma Off Road however mine did not come with that smaller plate.
I was wondering if that small piece fits on the 4wd tacomas?🤔
I just ordered mine too and it did not have that small plate. Gonna call them tomorrow.
@@AlexLopez-zt8mb that plate is only on the two wheel drives. The space is filled by the front differential and drive shaft.
iam canada i need one for a 2022 high country 3500 chev diesel can you let me know where to order from my name is Don Clease thks
Hi Wes,
I installed this cover on my 2017 Tacoma and everything went great on installation, but I have a rattling noise. The cover is hitting the driver side catalytic converter. Is there a way to adjust this? Thank you
To fix the rattling, had to cut the round hole on drivers side larger. Cut out .50 inch all around, no rattling.
Anyone installed this with RCI skid plate? Not sure if it's compatible.
Does it cover both cats?
Yes it does
Will this work on a 4cyl Tacoma 2016? Mine was stolen last night. I feel so violated….
That freakin sucks..
I just installed today on my 2022 Toyota 4x2. After the install, I realized a long blade on a sawzall would make quick work to remove the cats and both sides. And this is without cutting the cat protector. It looks like a deterrent but if the thief isn’t a moron, it’s no protection at all. Very disappointed
Fun fact 3rd gen Tacomas actually have 4 cats.
Why not tap the holes instead of using nutserts?
I’m sure you can do it either way. But the frame is hollow so the rivet nuts offer more for the bolt to hold onto
I think the nutserts were to be hammered into place...thus the holes he drilled were slightly too large. No tool needed.
@@spacecoastz4026 Nutserts have to be crimped into place with the tool. Hammering them in will simply not hold. *refer to the portion of the video showing the crimped nutsert on the sheet metal for reference..
@@WesleyAllenNC Thanks...but its not what he says
ruclips.net/video/LK9riqCU7tY/видео.html
what about oil change?
What about it ,, the shield covers the cat not the engine
It doesn’t block access to the oil drain plug, just the transmission drain plug. Which is probably a good thing!
I could remove that in less than 2 minutes then 1 minute to cut the cats off. less than 5min I'd have your cats. Bad design
