Hook is a 1991 American fantasy adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg[3] and written by James V. Hart and Malia Scotch Marmo. It stars Robin Williams as Peter Banning / Peter Pan, Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook, Julia Roberts as Tinker Bell, Bob Hoskins as Smee, Maggie Smith as Wendy, Caroline Goodall as Moira Banning, and Charlie Korsmo as Jack Banning. It acts as a sequel to J. M. Barrie's 1911 novel Peter and Wendy focusing on an adult Peter Pan who has forgotten all about his childhood. In his new life, he is known as Peter Banning, a successful but unimaginative and workaholic corporate lawyer with a wife (Wendy's granddaughter) and two children. However, when Captain Hook, the enemy of his past, kidnaps his children, he returns to Neverland in order to save them. Along the journey he reclaims the memories of his past and becomes a better person.
"Unconditional love for Robin Williams"
You're goddamn right
It took me a while to finally click on this. It was too soon.
way to true. And i'm not evan a 80s kid saying this
Yes, this!
I know it's kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Baker Colton ehh I would suggest flixportal. You can find it through google :P -julio
I can Phil it Collins in the air tonight. Whoever wrote that I applaud you. lol
exactly it was brilliant XD
I think that just broke me. Rofl
Everyone on this thread
My kind of ppl
Yes, a masterful witticism.
😂😂😂
“Nothing but respect for my fire lord.” Honooooooor!!!!
I came to the comments solely for this
And then Theon Greyjoy cuts his head of for copying him.
That's rough Buddy.
Rufio dying was a crushing moment in my childhood, made it hard to rewatch the movie but I did....probably a dozen times. That death hurt every time though 😢
I don't care what people say, Hook is fun. It also does not treat children as emotionally fragile. Then there is Julia Roberts as Tinker Bell, just wow.
Dirus Nigh she was so cute as Tink
101ist like lol
Wait, TINK WAS JULIA ROBERTS
@@evancunningham No, the other way around.
For some reason when I was younger I thought it was Sandra Bullock.
Robin Williams was my favorite actor and Hook was my favorite movie as a kid(still is). The day he died I couldn't stop crying, because the day August 11th, was my birthday. My favorite actor committed suicide on my birthday. God I still think about every year. He helped me through my worst times of my life. When I was suicidal myself, he made ME laugh and cry, but in a good way. So if you made it this far in the comment of my rambling thoughts I leave yoy with two things from Robin himself.
One: "If you're feeling depressed, reach out to someone. And remember, suicide is a permanent solution, to a temporary problem."
And Two: "To live… to live would be an awfully big adventure."
He can still help you. When he left this earth, all of his work stayed behind.
And 3......’it’s not your fault’...,
Leeloo C. Hey! Same here?! Weird
@@davideinfeld4815 until they ruined it with some god awful remakes
Whatever you might say about the awkward themes of the movie, Dustin Hoffman's performance alone justifies its high praise.
This movies and the 1990 TMNT got me through my parents divorce...plus, the build up to when he finally dons the green tights is sufficient for how lost he really was as a father and husband. I mean, his happy thought was becoming a DAD!
Went through the same thing in the same time frame. Glad im not the only one who 90s movies got me through childhood.
Hey person from my exact generation!
I always loved the dynamic with Hook and the son. Even though Hook was just using him, I liked to think that he actually did kinda like the kid.
“Nothing but respect for my fire lord” YAAAAAS
*HONORRRRRRRRRR!*
You seem to be under the impression that 20-somethings don't also love hook. I assure you, you are wrong
I still adore this movie. Parts of it don't hold up all that great, but that score is incredible, and Hoffman is at the absolute top of his game. For kids who wanted nothing more than grand adventure and swashbuckling and fantasy, Hook led the way.
One of my fav childhood movies. Everytime I think about it I miss Robin Williams. What an awesome bangarang movie. :( Roofio-roofio-roo-fee-ooooooooooooooh!
Robin Williams bangahanged himself... No, I'm not proud of myself thanks 4 asking
sadly refioh is not real. he is a fake, a made up thing, like fairies. you contnue to be sad and alone.
"unconditional love for robin williams" it's so very true
And also unconditional love for his Julliard College roommate Christopher Reeve. Both gone way too soon.
And it was *deserved* unconditional love
"Nothing but respect for my firelord"
My sides are in orbit
ethan hatcher explain the reference?
He is the voice actor for prince Zuko on the cartoon Avatar the last Airbender If you haven't seen that show go watch it...it is amazeballs
The actor that portrayed Rufio, Dante Basco, also did the voice work for Zuko, a character from the Avatar series.
Fun Fact: The couple kissing on the London bridge when Peter is flying to Neverland are George Lucas and Carrie Fisher
Yea I was kinda disappointed they weren't included in the secret cameos part.
Yep! I learned that from the Nostalgia Critic! :)
And he pirate who gets put in the boo box is Glenn close
drby0788 That surprised me when I found out about 15years ago! Lolol.
UM ESCUSE ME?
damn right on “nothing but respect for my fire lord” Dante Basco is our king
Emily Raye Then go watch the Rufio prequel.
Robert Jay not just our king, but OUR FIRELORD
"Where are Michael and John? Toodles, did you kill em?" Tootles: 'i cant find my marbles' too funny 🤣🤣
That had me laughing so hard! 🤣🤣
I think one of them was Toodles. Right? Is that far-fetched?
* DRAMATIC STING *
I liked Spielberg's version of Peter Pan. It's deep, had Robin Williams, and that awesome Tick Tock Croc.
Its on par with The Lost world & Amistad, which I consider decent films. Overall, an enjoyable film.
Why must you try and butcher this fantastic movie? Why not honestly embellish your well earned Love for this movie
PS: born 1996
One of the many Matts lost world is my fav too!!
Bryce Mckenzie Yeah, it's pretty Bangerang.
King Rexy The original Jp is my favorite Spielberg film, but I dont get the hate for TLW.
I'm 26 and this was, is, and always will be one of my all time favorite movies. Robin Williams was such an essential part of my childhood, and I was 100% into Rufio as a kid.
"Nothing but respect for my Firelord." Haha, yes! *All hail Firelord Zuko!*
I admit that I was also Rufio-ed by Rufio's iconic triple-hawk that I didn't mind waiting 100 minutes for this movie to Peter Pan itself, also, Phil Collins is best hand wiping on a handkerchief chief of police character.
Hook has the most underrated musical score of all time. It’s honestly one of my favorite scores and one of the most memorable.
You sold it for me :) Gonna listen to it now.
"You lewd, crude, rude bag of prechewed food dude." -Peter Pan
Substitute Chemistry Teacher.
@@greebeena2818 That cut real deep.

My mom loved this movie so much, we saw it 7 times in the theater. After one of the many viewings, we went to get lunch at Subway and she asked if I wanted to see it again, so we went right back for another showing haha! I also got revenge and made her take me to see Disney's live action Three Musketeers almost as many times, citing how she'd made me see Hook so often with her. ;) Movies were our thing to do together and it was great!
That's wholesome in a strange way. ♥
"I can Phil it Collins in the air tonight" is a VERY good joke.
Jordan Magill lol
Jordan Magill I hate Phil Collins with a passion.
Hah I agree Jordan, well placed or terribly triumphant, it works
Still not a bad movie, and decades later still brings a tear to my eye when I watch it. Robin Williams forever!
I actually still love this movie. As a 40yo smth hard working dad I can say that this movie has influenced me to try much much harder to be a better father. Less Peter from the beginning of the movie, more Peter from the end of the movie. My boys and I sometimes even crow. And we don't care how much people are laughing or how loudly my wife yells at us to stop our little insanity.
That‘s lovely.
I think that's why the creepy moments bothered me so much. It could have been SUCH a great movie about parenthood, specifically fatherhood. But then he has all these creepy sexual tension moments with FIVE different women who aren't his wife.
Totally not sorry for how much I love this movie. Lol
Darn straight!
same
Agreed!
TheAudiotinker me too lol
Agreed. There's too many good quotes and RW is fabulous..."in three days there's gonna be a war" and also "you member yur mother Peter?" Don't forget "he's stealin second" then they shoot his ass 😂
I refuse to accept there's anything wrong with this movie, it raised me when my parents didnt.
Boohoo
Kate That's how I feel about Jumanji, even though my mom didn't slack in raising me. lol
Kate you lost boy, or maybe girl
10 months, and nobody has used the line "You need a mother very very badly!" from the movie yet. The setup is right there
Now, thatbisna sad commentary. Can you fly yet?
Sexually charged violent movie with Robin Williams whom I unconditionally love and a Dustin Hoffman performance that blows away all other Hook performances.... No wonder I loved this movie.
People keep telling me what to hate about this movie, and I do see the problems, but I still love it!
Still watch it every time it's on. ♡
I lost it at "It's a Smee, Mario! 😂
Laura Musgrove lol
The "Make My Tinker bell Grow" part kills me there
I loved Hook. One of my favorites from childhood. Robin Williams played 2 of my favorite characters. Peter Pan and Popeye. R.I.P. Robin Williams
I think people forget about popeye. Robin and Shelly long did great in that movie
gabdiesel05 Yeah I loved Popeye. It may have been forgotten but I will never forget it. It's the only live action Popeye and the best ever in my opinion.
Wait - you listed all the obscure cameos but forgot to mention that was *George Lucas* and *Carrie Fisher* making out on the bridge at the end of the movie? You even showed the clip of them flying!
Right?
I totally missed every single one of those cameos.
"I'm serious this time Smee, I mean it. Don't try to stop me, Smee, don't you EVEN try to stop me!" 😂😂🤣😂😁😁
*Say: "The scar's NOT on the wrong side!"*

I FOUND THE ALAN! -----> 1:44
It's a silhouette, and you can barely hear the "Alan!"
Thanks! I love spotting the "Alan"'s
Wait is there an Alan in every honest trailer? If so, HOW AM I JUST NOW NOTICING IT??? I have to rewatch every one now!!
GODDAM...you HEARD that? I REALLY, REALLY had to try! This is just Honest Trailers thing?
Stunning
Brilliant i had no idea about this now I'll be on the lookout all of the time for it 😂
"Make my monster grow" and "I can Phil it Collins in the air tonight" had me rolling. That was too good.
I actually love this movie. I get that it is long fuse to what some may see as an less than spectacular ending. And I was born after 1990. And I can appreciate a story that takes time.
This is my childhood movie, watching it a few months ago and still love it.
RIP Robin Williams
“He’s Robin Williams like you’ve never wanted to see him before!” LMFAOOOOOOOOOO IM DYING 🤣🤣🤣
When I was in college 12 years ago. Before Netflix and chill, I used to watch Hook and chill. Works everytime.

RoughToBeBuffTV nice!
Bro I was born in 2002 and I loved this movie as a kid. The awesome voice guy is making me feel really old.
Just sayin', I was born after 1990 and I frickin' love Hook. One of my favorite childhood movies. I feel like most kids growing up with VHS would have seen and love Hook. Definitely not any little kids today, they wouldn't have the patience or imagination. Nice honest trailer, guys!
When I was little, Hook was THE Peter Pan movie. I didn't know till way later that Peter Pan was actually a boy, not grown man Robin Williams XD. Even though they (Screenjunkies) say it isn't as good on a re-watch, it's still a definitive Peter Pan movie, and it strikes me as odd how others aren't able to do a good job at Peter Pan.
Same
I'm going to have to disagree with Screen Junkies on this. Hook is still great even as a re-watch. Spielberg managed to make Pan grounded (pardon the pun) and as imaginative as ever at the same time. I'm an adult, but I still love this movie to bits.
Totally agree. Is it a perfect movie? By no means! I agree with their criticisms but still, it holds up-- maybe I'll need to re-watch it again. It's a classic in my book, but I know some classics aren't as good due to nostalgia goggles. Hook, like you said, was grounded while also being fantastical and had a child-like wonder, which is why I think us kids growing up with the film were patient to sit through the run-time.
Spielberg doesn't understand how good this movie was and still is.
Remember when he "improved" E.T. by changing the guns with walkie talkies?
He's a populist. If the people say its crap then so does he.
It's common for artists not to enjoy there own work, especial when parts of it are particularly good, they get fixated why the couldn't make the rest of it as good as those parts.
The script for Hook is a little weak. Not like irredeemably weak but like almost every element could have benefited from being just a little bit more solid. Spielberg was apparently aware of this during filming as the more uncertain he felt about the quality of the script the more resources he devoted to to the stagecraft. That's why Neverland looks so incredibly gorgeous. It's an overcompensation by a man who wasn't sure the material he was working with was good enough.
@badwolf739 source?!!!
For goodness sakes. Learn to google. Literally type "Spielberg thoughts on hook" into the search bar and the top fifty articles will mention what I said.
For the incompetents out there though the relevant quote is this:
"I didn’t quite know what I was doing and I tried to paint over my insecurity with production value. The more insecure I felt about it, the bigger and more colorful the sets became," - Speilberg
I think the original interview was with an outlet called Empire but you can find the information literally anywhere with the barest minimum of effort. It took me longer to type this than it did to find corroboration.
Hook is a good movie, full of great locations, nice actors and a story that never gets old. :)
Knut Kniffte agree
I loved it
Ah, when live action adaptations could bring something new to the table that wasn't worse in every way.
Phil Collins is in Hook.
*mind asplodes* ...
As a kid I always thought he sounded familiar but didn't quite recognize him. When you find out its him yeah, head asplode! O___O
That Glenn Close cameo is a complete mindfuck as well. I had to skip back to the frame to look closely and make sure the narrator wasn't joking.
Looky Looky, I got Hooky...
;(
Couch Tomato My favorite park was when he was Brutally Stabbed through the Heart 💔🗡
lik if yu cry evreytime
Couch Tomato Rufio, Rufio, *RU FI OOO*
I honestly went to hide at that line every time
Born after 1990 her and this movie is still the best. Rufio is also and will always be the best.
I was shocked when I heard this movie had bad reviews. I love this damn movie.
I really miss Robin Williams 🙁
You have no soul.
I watched his documentary...it was amazing
*what happened to him?*
Joshua July he had dementia and took his own life in 2015
I'm not
Firelord Zuko forever!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I met him, had no idea it was rufio until i saw him, was sooo done and nostalgic at the same time
And Jake Long from American Dragon!
When I was a kid I use to love that movie hook lol
Me two !!!!
Will Witcher good days
I've seen it again recently and I still love!
same, even with it's faults.
It was fun, and the toys? I knew a guy that had the utility hook toy that switched from knife to hook and etc.
"I can Phil it Collins in the air tonight" was so on point I can't breathe!
But I can't dance. The only thing about me...
He's completely right, this is the only version of Peter Pan I remember lol
I always wanted to go to this Neverland 😂❤
the WB version of peter pan from 2003 is good too, also has one of the best "practical" flights sequences i saw in a movie.
My favorite movie of all time.
Probably because I’m over 30, born in 87 and loved robin Williams
Born in 86 so I'm right with you
Leonhart didn't expect to see you here man.
I didn't expect to see you here...
I too was born in 87 and I too loved this movie. It's nice to have a normal functioning brain.
I'll save you some time: there is no reason why Smells Like Teen Spirit is in Pan. That scene makes no sense, in or out of context. There, now you don't have to see Pan.
You're welcome.
Big lipped alligator moment?
Maybe he got the song out of a tear to a parallel universe like in Bioshock Infinite.
cheezemonkeyeater You are the true hero today.
Jackman likes to sing in movies
Well, it had "Hello" in it
This is still one of my favorite films. Few things can make me feel like a kid again; princess bride, Aladdin and this.
Say: "RUFIO! RUFIO! RUFIO! RUFI....OHHH!!!!"
Of all the cameos you miss George Lucas and Carrie Fisher
I rewatched Hook a few weeks ago (have a 4.5 yr old and couldn't remember if it was appropriate). Man, it was every bit as good as I remembered. Yes, it dragged a bit in the middle but still really fun and really captures the magic of the story. I can't wait until he's old enough to watch it. Also, as a parent, it reminded me not to be so serious and just let my kids be kids.
I love this movie! When I last watched it, I burst into tears 😭 reminded me of the goods movies in the old days (and I'm just 24)
I cannot watch it without crying for 2 hours straight. This movie is a perfect metaphor for everyones own life. Forever a lost boy. Never growing up.
I was born way after 1990 and had this film on vhs and i absolutely loved it. It was cool, sweet and I guess I never really noticed about how long it took for him to actually become Pan. Also, I've seen Pan (2015) and i can safely tell you that I have no idea why that singing is there.
I can Phil it Collins in the Air Tonight..
Yeah, that was clever.
That made me lol
Ha ha! Priceless!!
Loved it as a kid, love it more now. People gave Spielberg crap because he used the movie to somehow come to terms with some personal issues, but if that is a legitimate criticism then we should throw out basically half of basically everything in any kind of art form, hell if anything it makes the movie more interesting than just a pseudo-sequel to Peter Pan. They tried to do something similar with Tim Burton's Alice but it just doesn't pack the same punch (it doesn't help that Alice loses most of the charm when you deviate from deranged dreamlike logic and try to actually have a linear and logical fantasy plot like in Burton's movie).
The greatest story ever told. The boy who never grows up,it will always be my favourite film
“Robin Williams Poor Stunt Double”
XD
Man I loved this film.... My favorite scene is where they ate all the colorful food. I always wanted a feast like that too xD
Yeah but imaginary is like asian food. You'll just be hungry again in twenty minutes.
TheHorseFormerlyWithoutAName that's why their food is always done in only 10min lol
Yeah it always looked great! I still wanna make one of those colorful cream pies hahaha
IllisMoreo 87 it DOES kind of look like playdough, I admit lol
I’m so glad you made that Zuko reference 😄
Gah, need them to do Honest Trailer Avatar: The Last Airbender series!!
Me too I squeed & my mom asked if I was having a seizure 😂
I was born 1 years after 1990, so maybe that's why I STILL love this movie. It's heartfelt and covers timeless real life issues through the vintage (the book was written about 100 years ago by now, right?) and imaginative symbolism of Never Land. I don't know what Spielberg is talking about. He has "worse" movies.
Dustin Hoffman/Hook is by far the best thing about this movie and genuinely brilliant. Absolutely nailed the performance!
So, you did Hook, let's get some Big Trouble in Little China!
I think they already did it
A search of "Big Trouble in Little China honest trailer" brings up no results
I want to like your coment... but I also want it to stay at 69.
WOW Im 33 years old and I have never knew that was Phil Collins , MIND BLOWN LOL !!!

Which video did he do it in already? I think I've asked on the last like 4 or 5 lol
Don't forget the George Lucas and Carrie Fisher cameo!
really where?
The couple kissing when Tinkerbell is carrying Peter to Neverland.
My thoughts exactly. They even showed it in the video.
Jeff Ferguson You beat me to it. Kudos
Go fan fiction writers! To your keyboards!
Please do small soldiers.
Loved that movie as a kid, wouldn't dare to watch it today.
The final fight at the end was always my favorite part. One of William's best "serious" movies.
I'm 16 and I saw this when I was 6 or 7 and loved it. Which just goes to show you that some movies hold up better then others.
RIP, Robin Williams. You were always an American icon and treasure.
*worldwide
I do NOT CARE how my nostalgia blinds me with this movie.
When I was a kid, you just simply had no chance of being my best friend unless you knew this movie by heart.
In my bias, unpopular opinion, it's lowkey the BEST Spielberg movie.
There. I said it.
Robin Williams was special! Jack, Hook, Flubber, Jumanji etc.
Good Will Hunting, Hello Vietnam, Mork and Mindy.
Pls stop, the nostalgia is too much
Aladdin should've been the first one mentioned.
jp3813 Genieeeee! 100% agreed
Can’t forget mrs doubtfire
Wow, I had no idea Steven Spielberg considered this one of his least favorite movies. Now this makes two movies he wasn't proud of, this and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom".
I was surprised, considering he directed 1941.
Not only that critics hated this movie. Definitely one of his lows.
I love Indiana Jones, but I hate Temple of Doom.
It kinda traumatized me as a kid.
I loved Temple of Doom as a kid, but now I can't see it the same way again.
Who thought the dinner scene was a good idea in the first place?
Should be three because Crystal Skull was FAR, FAR worse than Temple and Temple is mostly pretty good.
This movie is my childhood and I've seen it so many times lmao. I'll never get sick of it.
0:43 - 0:47 Ironically, the apparent message of that song's lyrics was that the "red man" was only different from the "paleface" on the outside.

Finally, thank you good sir.
Thank You!
How do you casually just hear that? I had to hold it up to my ear!
YESSSSS
Wait...That was actually Glen Close?
*googles*
....Holy crap...
Yes and the couple kissing on the bridge when Peter and Tinkerbell was going to Neverland was Carrie Fisher and George Lucas
...Well that's kinda weird to think about. :P
Yep. Back in the day, woman dressing up as man, no one ever complain. Then, why is everyone freaking out of Scarlett Johanson playing transgender?
Since The Meg comes out next week, are you gonna make an Honest Trailer for Deep Blue Sea?
Benjamin Abramowitz Love that film
They said at the end of the commentary video that they were 'going deep' next week.
In hindsight to the life of Peter Pan’s author, the Wendy Grandma thing sort of makes this the most faithful adaptation of the story.
I do NOT remember the wendy having the hots for her adopted grandson part. Damn.
Same here. Childhood ruin 😭.
I know it's not a masterpiece, but it's one of the most loved movie of my childhood, so I DON'T CARE!
Ale Ale agree!
Please make a trailer for Big Trouble In Little China. That would be awesome
especially now that its being remade
Midget Penguin exactly!! Although I'm having mixed feelings about it, I'm mostly excited to see if they honor the original
Lol. That would be hilarious. 👍
@Midget Penguin. Wait, wait wait, what? Have I been living under a rock or something, it's being remade??? *Sigh*
Yep, the rumor is the Rock is going to be playing Jack Burton
"That is so banggawrong!" That killed me! But still, Hook is in my top 10 best movies ever.
This is still one of my favorite movies of all time. Hoffman's performance was EPIC. Reminded me of how good Alistair Sim was in the original A Christmas Carol.
Rip Robin Williams
After all these years, I miss Robin Williams
Ben Wasserman As someone who has struggled with depression my whole life, and generally likes to deal with it in a humorous way, his death hit me really hard.
Cyynric Same here. It hit my mom even harder.
I loved Hook growing up. One of my top favorite films. I was 9 years old when it was released.
