I’m a small engine mechanic as have 4 years of experience, not a lot but enough to know “NOT” to adjust the high jet when correcting idle……. I’ll help you out here there are 3 adjustment screws on most chainsaws, there is a high jet adjustment, a low jet adjustment and a idle adjustment………. the low jet adjustment is for the low end lower rpm’s, the high jet is for the higher/maximum rpm’s, and the idle is for adjusting well the idle…… When you turn in the low and high adjustment screws the fuel are mixture get leaner and when you turn out it gets richer, also when adjusting the saw to be leaner it might sound better and rev higher but the saw will run hot and from lack of lubrication the saw will score the cylinder. the low and high jet are usually close together and the idle is farther away….. but please don’t tell people to adjust the high or low jet because it lean the fuel mix and permanently damage the engine if I properly tuned! :)

Interesting information, thank you for sharing. I’ll have to take a look next time I’ve got it running. I haven’t noted the issues you described but it never hurts to double check. Thanks for watching!

Great to know, I have to adjust my idle lil higher bc mine would stall out...should I screw down or out for higher idle?

If adjusting the Hi you NEED a digital tachometer and the owners manual.
Adjust the High Jet until you reach 90-95% of the MAXIMUM RPM listen in the owners manual.
Low jet... find the sweet spot.. the area where the saw doesn’t bog... then idle down until just starts to rev down.

@@rjmacdougall so the idle screw is the final adjustment? What is a good starting point for the idle screw, screwed all the way down?

@@viciousKev I’d start it, let it warm up for 3-5 minutes before anything.
As for a starting point? It has to run without bogging and stalling. If it is stalling, just turn the screw in until it ‘runs well.’
The idea is to have it getting just enough fuel to keep running, it’ll sound a little rough. But the leaner you have it idling, the faster throttle response you’ll have when you pin it. So that’s the goal... as little fuel (within reason) to keep it at idle.

How is this chainsaw still alive ? How are you alive?

Just luck and good genes I guess. I ran it just today, which is probably less fun than being snarky on the internet, but more productive. Best wishes to you.

@@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees Hey this chainsaw at least on the video looks very shaky and in a bad condition. I just want you to be safe.

It’s like me, a little older and probably on the downhill part of its life but still gets the job done 😎. Thank you

Sorry to say this advice, if that's what you call it, is horrible. You don't just crank the jets back and forth 1-2 turns. Ridiculous
