I think it would be an awesome video to do products you bought to replace the items you're getting rid of! I would be interested in seeing that, too! Thank you for addressing this!
I have been non toxic for years with skincare, makeup to hair products. I feel great knowing that I am using toxic free products. Thank you for your great video. Please could you show a non toxic makeup haul. I really appreciate you. 😁🥰
Omg I feel like this video came at a perfect timing! At the end of 2022 and now moving into 2023 I've been making a conscious effort to buy clean beauty and skincare at Sephora. Love your videos and you! :)) xo
Thanks Amy, honestly so helpful (having pcos). Been a subscriber for yrs its bittersweet seeing you get rid of products i watched your tutorials with but loooking frwd to this new era of Clean' and humbled to know there will be drugstore finds as well since changing everything definitely add$ up. Much appreciated
hey mom this is great but for the most part the ingredients are harmful if used in high amounts, most apps like those aren’t accurate ❤ just a thought, I’ve also been doing things like these it’s great to incorporate
Actually, the EWG app does account for the percentage of the ingredient (i.e.-under 1% phenoxyethanol) to determine the rating. And Sephora's clean standard does also. You have to read the fine print because the formulation, where it's used, and amount of the ingredient in the product are also relevant, unless you are a strict adherent, and any sight of a specific chemical makes you uncomfortable. That's probably why Amy saw a green score next to some products with certain ingredients in them.
Hi Amy!! I left the beauty content a few years ago for many reasons and I'm so happy to see you cleaning out your products! I've done the same! Congrats on your baby!! Good to see you're doing well!
I AGREE WITH YOU AMY. LIVING A HEALTHY AND GREEN LIFESTYLE IS NOT EASY. IT IS A LOT OF WORK, TIME, AND DEDICATION. BUT THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. I AM STILL ON THIS JOURNEY MYSELF. I HAVE LEARNED A LOT AND GROWN A LOT ALONG THE WAY. BUT THERE IS SO MUCH WORK AHEAD. IN THE MEANTIME. I JUST ENJOY THE JOURNEY. AND DO MY BEST ON A DAILY BASIS. GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR SHARING. I LEARNED SO MUCH.
Its crazy I watched the “Not so pretty” documentary on Netflix and it opened my eyes to how many products I was using that was awful for my body. I looked at the ingredients I had and threw out a giant garbage bag of products and at the time I worked at bath and body works while in college so I was near toxic fumes daily. Once I left there and stopped using carcinogens in my products and cutting down on using products with endocrine disrupters my health changed for the better, my menstrual cycle and thyroid issues disappeared and i went from having migraines weekly to only having one maybe once a year. If your reading this PLEASE look at what your putting into your body, it’s a long process but it’s worth it in the end!!
I totally agree with riding yourself of toxic products, but also the waste that comes from that, I try to just finished my products first and then not re buy
Be careful not to oversimplify an ingredients list. The concentration level of the ingredients will also factor into their scores because certain concentration levels of some chemicals (like phenoxyethanol) can be deemed to have minimum risk. And in many cases scientific-based non-profit groups like EWG are confirming the source origin of some questionable ingredients. Also, Sephora explains in their clean requirement that they also account for the percentage of certain ingredients before they label a product green. That's probably why you notice certain products with those ingredients still meeting the "clean" requirement. Most importantly, do your due diligence. If you are uncomfortable with an ingredient, don't use it, but also don't be hasty throwing things away.
My only thing with this video, you are calling POTENTIALLY toxic things "toxic". You should be able to differentiate endocrine disruptors, irritants, pollutants etc. I'm not going to be one of those "everything a chemical!" people lol. You still have an immune system :) Please consider donating items to women in shelters who don't mind the products. I have allergies and sensitivities to MANY things lol, avoid fragrances is the main toxin along with formaldehyde releasing ingredients. Glad you're keeping it clean.
Exactly!!! A lot of the ingredients can be potentially toxic to certain groups of people depending on current health conditions. Someone who doesnt have sensitive skin can use an ingredient with a health impact of possible skin irritation. If it doesn’t irritate you, it’s not toxic for you.
I’ve been in the process of cleaning out my products over the last year as well! I absolutely LOVE the brand Attitude! Their shampoos and conditioners are really good although just being transparent, I do find my hair gets greasier with more “natural/cleaner” shampoos. My hair doesn’t lasts as long as with other regular shampoos. But still worth it for cleaner ingredients! Their household cleaning products work great as well. I recommend going to healthy planet or Whole Foods for these types of products! P.s. they have hair dye with cleaner ingredients too
I am allergic to phenoxyethanol and it is in EVERYTHING, esp the 'natural' products. I went full on granola crumcher products, no silicones or anything, and wowser. I had so many skin and hair issues. Some of the stuff is really harsh, and I started to look not so good. So I now get the good stuff for bigger things, like body wash, and body cream but allow myself to buy some of the other things I love - like I use Burts Bees gloss, and other organic cheek products, but non-natural concealer and mascara. Avene although not natural, has a line of products that put their stuff in containers that don't allow air in them, so they don't need preservatives. Shoppers always has sales, and the stuff saved my skin. Alot of natural stuff also uses waxes etc, that can give you legit blackheads. So I am now all about balance :P Good luck in your journey! ps. Check out weleda pricey but some good stuff.
Thank you for talking about this! I’m curious what happened with the hospital situation but totally understand if you’re not comfortable talking about it!! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism/hashimoto’s disease and have to be on synthroid throughout my current pregnancy and likely for ever. Again, thanks for speaking up and great to see that creators are talking more about it!!
100%! chemicals arent always bad and sometimes should be put in. most products werent toxic if used in an normal amount. if you really want to live "toxic-free", you gotta live in the woods and use what mother nature gives you.
Thank you Amy for highlighting some insight to the dangers of toxic chemicals that are, unfortunately in many of our favorite products. I work in beauty and this is a top priority with the focus on moving towards pure, clean products including the packaging. I see some of your subs may not embrace this advice but the toxicity will do more harm in the long run. Some companies have or will have no choice but to make changes. It's not just in beauty products, it's the cars we drive, the products we clean with, the food we eat, our cookware, its in the aur we breathe. We want to look good on the outside but its what we put in and on our body that we need to rethink. Amy keep sharing this content. I'm purging and replacing my products 👍🏼🤗
I would love to see you do a updated hair routine and skincare routine. Even a tanning routine after switching to clean products! So I know what to buy for myself! 🙂
This year I decided to be MINDFUL of what I’m putting in and on my body.❤ The YUKA app helps identify ingredients are in products and food. Making it a bit more easier to make my choice
Im so excited to see more of these kinda videos form you Amy 😊 i started to get eczema from bodywash/soaps many yrs ago so i had to find products that are more natural and SLS free 🌱
This is really great! Just a note that some xenobiotics do enter the body and can cause adverse health effect when ingested or inhaled, rather than through skin exposure (dermal exposure). Hoping the studies associated and brought up by the app you're using show this too. Also, in some situations, it really does build up over time and is not a large risk when you're exposed for a short amount of time. Not saying you should risk it, but a reminder to not be too frightened if you notice specific chemicals listed in your products, as adverse health effects usually are not immediate. But again - this is really great!!
Im glad you addressed this! This needs to be more widely spoken about. I recently discovered I have thyroid issues as well and I want to do what I can to improve my condition. So many of our daily products are big endocrine disrupters
Girl the amount of products I looked after this video had me shook!!!!! I guess I just never really thought about it deeply but my skin care was shocking clean I switched over a year ago because I kept breaking out herbivore botanicals is amazing
Thank you so much for thus video. It definitely is an eye opener and will definitely be using this app to check for products. This is super helpful and I'm looking forward to seeing other videos around this topic !!!💙💙
Hey Amy ❤ I love that it is common now for people to understand what they are putting on and in our body. With that said, the items you are getting rid of, don’t you find it wasteful of trashing everything as opposed to using it up? This message comes with love I am just genuinely curious your thoughts.
Some ppl may ask, "does it really matter". and, it DOES. Its the difference between aging with grace and strong quality of life, or aging with sickness etc.
Hey Amy! I also have started being more knowledgeable about the toxic ingredients in foods and beauty products. I have learned alot from Bobby Parish ( Flavcity on RUclips) and the Pod cast Realfoodology with Courtney Swan! I have also switched my pots and pans to non toxic and am I also purchased a AquaTru water purifier and it has been a game charger after learning how toxic our air fryer , laundry detergent, water and pots and pans. Love your videos! Have been a follower for years ❤️❤️
Thank you for this video it was so helpful and eye opening! I always trusted when Sephora said their products were “clean” products but now not so much🙄
My in laws think I’m a hippie because of this app! I love it. After my daughter was born with severe eczema I flipped everything upside down. They really don’t care about us 😢
Unfortunately there are so many products that are toxic, but there is no 100% non toxic products even if they really exist, they would be so expensive and non affordable to everyone 😢
Maaaaan. I am doing this. For a while, I had been experiencing my hair coming out in clumps like the size of a small box braid when I washed my hair in the shower. I had a hair ball the size of almost 2 wool dryer balls once I have a good amount of hair so luckily it wasn't as noticeable. I found out today that there is a class action lawsuit for shampoo and conditioner brands that I had been purchasing. They were making peoples hair fall out. I had been buying them because it made by hair feel soft and curls pop. I'm a mom, so of course, I try to save where I can to use for other things. I had been using Aussie's Moist and Curl products as well as the Tresseme's Biotin line. I will be going to use natural hair products from now on. I had recently purged my skincare products and use Mad Hippie mostly along with Derma E for now but yeah making that switch is a smart move. Working on my makeup. I use Pur cosmetics and gradually buying LYS beauty. I know the same person created both lines but that's what I' m working on until I can do better. Maybe my hair will thicken up now. It use to be a lot thicker. Oh and yes the macadamia conditioner is the bomb. It melts your hair like butter but I guess I'll be looking for a nontoxic dupe.
