I live in Fl. where slugs and snails are a HUGE problem as soon as the cold weather is over with. If that's what is doing it, when they were chewing up my peace lilly, I took a length of Romex three wire, about 14 gauge, stripped the outer sheath off, stripped each inner sheath, and took the bare copper wire and made a complete OVERLAPPING circle around the base of the plant. The copper somehow shocks the wet bodies of the snails and/or slugs, and it will stop them in their tracks. Make sure all the wire is flush with and touching the ground around the plant, and be sure to cut your wire long enough so that the ends will meet or overlap. You only need to go around once, but if you have an abundance of wire, go around and around! It does not have to be the big solid wire. You can also use the fine strand type, sometimes it's even better because it's much more flexible, and you can use more without struggling with big wires. Anyway, all this works great.....if it's slugs! Hope this helps.

I use cinnamon for EVERYTHING!!! You will be amazed at what it does. It works on insects, armidillos, and all rodents. Slugs hate it. It's my go to and it's cheap!!! Check it out! So far it's all I use. Rabbits hate it.😎

Last year my pepper plants in my garden bed had holes in them and eventually died. I ended up planting from seeds in containers on my deck. I was so pleased with my pepper harvest. I did see a slug this morning on my asiatic lily plant and whatever residue these slugs release ruined my plant. The neem oil I sprayed was too strong for my tomato plants. So I have been using a simple water spray to get rid of the aphids and mites on my plants. Honestly you are my biggest inspiration and to go garden expert the last four years. I discovered Gary later and his methods are so helpful too especially with living in zone 7. You two rock!

Sorry to hear about your peppers. I learn from you, Gary and Jess. You guys are my go to people. The scarlot runner beans came in the other day so all I have to do is wait for spring now. Love your sunflower. I got my seeds for the giant sunflowers the other day also. My introduction to them was when I was 10 and I met my grandmother for the first time in her little village overseas. She was so tall, I remember looking up and up and up. The sunflowers were as tall as she was. I found out later that she was 6" 4'' . I got the seeds in remembrance of her. Even though we couldn't communicate in the same language, I could see the love and pride in her eyes. That's it for me today. Thanks for sharing. Blessings

Love neem oil! Points to consider, though...the oil acts like a ‘tanning oil,’ so best used in the evening to avoid burning your plants. The side benefit is that the oil will be dry before the bees are active in the morning. Neem isn’t good for the bees. I’d also suggest diatomaceous earth (DE) for the slugs. It’s probably much cheaper than the sluggo stuff. You may also consider a water feature to bring in toads. They’re the best weapon against slugs and the evening symphony is the best!

Aphids are repeatedly attacking my peppers. They are only now just barely starting to recover and form flowers. I have pepper plants in multiple places in my yard and the aphids specifically go for the peppers for some reason. We also have slugs (sluggo plus is the best), white flies and of course caterpillars! It’s a daily battle, but it’s worth it!

How enjoyable to do the coffee walks! I'm sure its encouraging and a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and find things to be excited about! Hopefully you can conquer the pepper problem. Yesterday I set up a raised bed, now I need to fill it. I bought it through home hardware. It's made of food grade white pvc type material, is 3 feet x 5 feet, and has whats called a keyhole for composting. The raised bed/composting is something new for me and I'm excited to try it.

    Hi Kim
My name is " My" and I'm a gardener from Las Vegas. So I've been having the same problem with my pepper plants this year. I went out at night with a flashlight to look what's eating my plants so I found this big black worms chewing on my tomato plants ( I think they're cut worms. And slugs all over my pepper plants. So I'm sure those are slugs chewing on your pepper plants. I try Slugo plus but it didn't work for me cause there's too much of them. Someone told me to put beer around the garden and that will attract the slugs . They crawl in and get drown, but don't fill it all the way cause they need to crawl in. Good luck

I'm in zone 8 NC. Those caterpillars can be ruthless! Get you some BT(Bacillus thuringiensis)for cabbage worms is what it is. Mix as directed, its organic, and spray top and bottom of leaves on plants. Make sure not to do it in the heat of the day. Early morning or evening is best. It's awesome stuff and actually works!

I put 1cup water in a pot, throw in 5 chopped up garlic cloves, & tb spoon of hot pepper flakes, bring to a boil & stir, then let it sit for at least a couple hours. Then I secure a washcloth around the top of a cup with a rubber band & pour the mixture over top so it drains into the cup w/out all the chunks. I pour it into a 1/2 liter spray bottle, drop in a few drops of peppermint essential oil & teaspoon dish soap. Fill up the rest of the bottle with water, then shake it all up. Seems to work really well so far & granddaddy longleg spiders dont seem to be bothered by it (they’re still hiding out all over my plants, its a good thing).
Make sure you turn your head when spraying or a breeze might blow the spray into your face. I learned that the hard way lol!

Thanks from NOHO CA. Im out now and was out last night individually pitching earwigs off my leafs. I put cat food cans down flush with the soil filled with vegetable oil. The cans are full of earwigs! Thats whats going on here for me I have caught 2 Caterpillars on my tomatoes so far but I believe the holes are from earwigs. I agree with Gary looks like snug damage....could also be cabbage moth larvae. I found a few of those in my garden recently the larvae are on the bottom of the leaves typically; most of the time on lettuces and brassica plants, but you never know.

could be earwigs. they come out at night I've had that problem before. come out with a flashlight after Dark a few times and look under your leaves and all around your plant. I think Sluggo kills earwigs also.

Same thing was happening to my Ichiban Eggplant but worse; was just getting destroyed. Finally on Monday I caught the caterpillar that was doing it; had to go out right after sundown to catch it (I found it on the soil near the plant). My pepper plants that are right next to the eggplants have a few holes like yours and I'm going to do the same with them because there isn't anything on them during the day. If I can't catch anything, neem oil is the next step.

I got the Scarlet Runner Bean seeds from you. They sprouted quickly (and hugely!) in the Jiffy pots. I then transplanted to the solo cups and then into my greenhouse for hardening off when flowers started to appear while still indoors! I think I did that too early and they went into temperature shock. I put them in the ground anyway to see what would happen. I was away for a week and came back last night. I see that they have started growing again! Yippie!
I have holes in my blueberry plant leaves. Not sure what to do about that yet. :( But my tomato plants from your seed mixes are doing well, especially the cherry tomatoes - I have flowers already!

Cut a couple beer cans in half and bury them to the top in your garden, leave a little beer in the cans. It will attract all nearby slugs. They’ll fall in the cans. Empty and repeat. You’ll be surprised how many slugs are lurking around.

You might wanna be careful spraying the neem oil first thing in the morning. You should try spraying it in the evening instead, because if you put it on in the morning before the bright midday sun, it’s a lot like putting tanning oil on your plants, and you can actually burn them!

Looks like caterpillar/cabbage worm damage to me, happens usually on the more unhealthy plants first. I use BT Bacillus thuringiensis, from concentrate(the one for worms and caterpillars) and spray when the sun isn't bright out. Neem oil has never worked on any bugs/worms for me. Also a good fertilizer helps. An awesome homemade fertilizer that stopped any eating on my peppers was just collard, kale, radish etc. leaves thrown in a bucket of water and let sit till it stinks(couple days at least). Pour some in a watering jug and add water, can go like half stinky water with half regular water. Use that as your fertilizer and it works wonders, plus it's free!

I haven’t seen any signs of slugs or snails either.. my entire garden is in containers and large raised beds on a 32x48 ft deck... so the bug community is much more under control there. I do have aphids and whatever can fly up here, but it’s so much better than when I planted in the ground. I walk through the garden every morning and early evening and rarely see very many insects. I don’t want to resort to dusting with chemicals if I can keep from it, but we’ll see how the peppers survive...I’ll be watching to see how you solve your infestation or maybe someone has some suggestions... love your videos, thank you for all you share..❤️

Same situation on my pepper plants.above ground large containers.( rabbits and deer, even raised ground beds wont fly here on the cumberland plateau in mid east tn) sluggo is a good start even though im not seeing slug trails..no worms no catepillars....it was suggested. Pill bugs.if you used organic soil like manure and put down a mulch perfect hiding ground.sluggo water activated supposedly sluggo will kill doodle bugs....worth a shot.nothing visible in daylite adjacent tomatoe plant ..no worms no leaf chew.??

We have been getting a lot of rain. I sprayed neem oil as well. They are tearing my cabbage up. Hopefully it works.

I love walking through my garden in the evening with my glass of wine if I didn’t get a chance to do a morning coffee walk.

Tis the season for bugs. I've seen caterpillars like crazy around here. That and leaf hoppers. I think your damages are more likely leaf hoppers or possibly June bugs. June bugs will devour plants very quickly. But since June bugs are nocturnal I would think you would have spotted them at night. Most likely leaf hoppers. Those bugers are so hard to spot.

Is sluggo bait good for grasshoppers??

The pollinators seem to be loving the raspberry bush i have! More so than the flowers that I planted to actually attract them! Lol

Does sluggo bait work for grasshoppers and earwigs? I’ve been using DE but it’s a pain to work with.

Have you tried sprinkling turmeric powder on your leaves to deter ants and slugs?

I don't see lots of holes in my peppers. It is very green and healthy however it doesn't grow fruits, I don't really see any bugs but we have ants. I live in Phx any suggestion to have my peppers yield??

I was thinking maybe earwigs as well. My peppers were decimated repeatedly last year by earwigs. I saw another person mention looking for them at night with a flashlight.

3 of my plants have had weird brown and white spots and I don’t know what’s wrong. I picked off those leaves to see if it would keep it from spreading but I’m so discouraged about it. I’m not sure what’s wrong and what to do.

I have been getting holes in my peppers too. Since I have a tiny garden, I check each plant every day after work and have found 2 caterpillars and some tiny bugs so I killed them. You are my garden friend! :) Always watching your videos even more than once.

Those small white moths that lay eggs & produce those tiny green "catepillars"!? Cant remember name of moth! Could they be the culprit? What is your recipe for the neem oil, please! Thank you!💜

I use 2 ounces of Neem Oil to a Gallon of water and a few dozen drops of liquid soap on Peppers and seems to work well and try to spray underneath the leaves as thats where all the buggers like to attack.

Jana Gregory: caterpillars live in ur soil and may be climbing the plant at night to feed. Dig around and inspect your soil, just might be the issue.
