    I wonder how the fight would turn out if the Gripens fight nose-cold in BVR like they are designed to do... they use the locks of 1 gripen to aim all others, and the new Gripen E's extensive jamming capability (highest powered jamming system on any fighter)

    Going on my 2nd month of owning DCS and the one thing I have learned is the most valuable commodity is situational awareness. You can have the fastest jet, the best missiles, the most fuel and ammo and it's worthless if you don't know what's going on around you. Worthless. Especially if you set the F10 map to fog of war. Can't cheat then. I got smoked in an F-16C by an old Mig 17 because I lost track of him but he didn't lose track of me. Granted it's the AI set to Veteran I am fighting against, but the point is still valid. Know what's going on around you first. All the other tactics then can be used.

    Great video once again, thank you.
    A few comments. USAF jets and a lot of NATO jets are designed with reduced radar cross sections via both specific design choices and overall size as you stated. In addition, older 4th gen. US jets are painted with radar absorbing materials, although I have no real idea of how effective or similar it is compared to the materials applied to the F-35 for example. Overall, I believe this would play a factor in real-world engagements and not necessarily by avoiding being seen on enemy radar screens, but more difficulty in acquiring a lock strong enough for the missile to fire. Low RCS plus a large emphasis placed on electronic warfare/jamming by NATO air assets are a very troubling combo, and per Russian performance in Ukraine with their jets being unable to fly at altitude consistently as a result of UA IADS, being shot down at low-levels by MANPADS, and even the latest Russian variants have been shot down by friendly-fire on several occasions (I'd guess way more often than they should be considering the limited number of daily sorties).
    This, combined with the fact they are simply unable to obtain anything close to air superiority versus the 12th largest military worldwide, which happens to be just over their own border, leads me to conclude the Russian jets are underperforming compared to pre-war expectations and also when compared to how effective most western military analysts (professionals) thought the Russian AF would perform, which was very well.
    One common complaint on the F-22 and several other US jets is the lack of an infrared sensor that's found on most Russian models. The US now has this sensor included in a targeting/sensor pod, including a version of the pod in a specific stealth configuration with a stealth pylon made specifically for the F-22. The F-22 is also still slated to receive that long-awaited helmet-mounted HUD per the last update I read, but it is well overdue by now.
    My request: USAF F-15C and F-16C versus two equivalent Russian variants, with the missile loadouts adjusted to roughly equivalent models/ranges due to the current AIM-120D bug (however, I don't think DCS allowed the 120D to be mounted to these models, or at least the F-15 if I recall?).

    Hahaha , I lost it at [10 Minutes Later]
    But yeah, I guess there is something to be say for being "sneaky". it's not stealth, but at range it's stealthy enough.
    Say, is there a certain RCS value for the radars to be able to lock on. say it need an RCS of 1 to be able to lock on. One should be able to work out the effective range of a radar vs a plane that way. Or,, with the data you guys already have, workout that value for a specific radar.

    • @lordsqueak
      @lordsqueak Год назад +1

      @@TeenTeenFpv Yes, that is the value I want to figure out, if possible.
      If we know the RCS of the plane, and we figure out how far away the radar can see it, and lock on to the plane, we can figure out how much RCS the radar need to see the plane. And by that roughly figure out how far away it can detect other planes, if we know their RCS.
      Of course in reality,, that's not gonna work, but this is DCS.

    • @zahnatom
      @zahnatom Год назад

      the eurofighter definitely has MWS
      if its the British version, it should even have LWS so those cheeky sukhois couldn't even sneak up with their EO which uses a laser range finder to... well... measure range. The Gripen apparently also has MWS, so does the Su-57. I dont know about the SU-35. the su-57 and gripen use a passive missile approach warning system unlike the eurofighter which uses an active one meaning that at even in low vis scenarios or situations where the missile isn't clearly distinguishable from the background(through IR or UV) the eurofighter could still detect it.

    • @gbornitz
      @gbornitz Год назад

      i don't know, how the MWS in FC3 works exactly, but also a RWR can detect radar guided missiles, because the Fox-3 have their own active radar and for a Fox-1 the attacking aircraft has to send a continous radar signal, indicating a lock. Fox-2s shouldn't be recognized by it.

In a real NATO/Russia war there would be a good chance AWACS and Tankers would have been taken out in the first hours of a serious Russian attack, so the ever present "BINGO fuel" would have to be an ever present factor that the Russian forces could use to their advantage. Like in that last fight, CAP would not be able to press ahead with the intercept because of his fuel levels, correct??

      @@Rover200Power AWACS and tankers are a corner stone of Western military projection. These are major assets that the West rely on for mission success. They need long runways to take off and land on. This limits the number of bases that they can be stationed at. Satellite imagery can easily confirm their location. Cruise missiles can do the rest. Meaning at that point Western aircraft will need to take off with full fuel loads thus smaller weapons loadouts and shorter range missions. Hopefully the Grim Reapers can wargame this scenario some time in the future. It would be interesting to see how it plays out.

    • @spinsqiggle

      @@jamesclimie4825 as CAP has pointed out several times, Russian aircraft are bigger and can hold a lot more internal fuel than their Western equivalents. Thus unrefueled longer range missions. If the Russians/Chinese were to take out the West's reliance on air to air refueling it would surely have an impact on mission planning. The Su-27 for example flew from Russia to the Farnborough Airshow one year on internal fuel only. The F-35, because of its small size and internal weapons bay is heavily reliant on air to air refueling for mission success.

    The modelling is terrible - long range search + track and lookdown on the Eurofighter and Gripen's RADARs is excellent - you'd easily see anything flying at any altitude within 80/60 miles respectively. ISRT on Eurofighter would also see most missile launches in the search envelope providing the pilot with a speculative target to blind fire into.

    Where do you guys get your rcs numbers from exactly? I can get much more accurate ones than I guarantee are on the internet but I'm not positive about the number of non NATO blocked ones available for well. Me. Aha. But um I'm a hobby knife maker. I'm 31 and used to work as a senior network systems administrator then information security management until I couldn't do the Internet anymore. So no I can't get you ACTUAL classified rcs numbers from any 5th Gen or even 4.5gen fighter, but I know for a fact that I can get much better than resolution of a thousandths of a meter information. Now do I think that would be necessary for a PC simulator? I mean. That one can be argued about obviously.
    *IM NOT A PILOT* (but I could do a plane if I had to at gun point - helicopter you best get off 😋😅) nor do I have this simulator (I'm very seriously thinking about making a new PC cause I need one and kinda have to thank you guys for showing me this game, I'll keep this short as possible[I come from pro gaming 2004ish to pubg recently and politics and the internet I refuse to waste my life with])
    I honestly haven't taken a look into this game yet but if it's not open source which it doesn't sound like it is - If I were you I'd totally disregard this post. Cause we both know that it's .. I can't make real life with the processing power even of 2022. Well. Can and feasible are two different things. I meant feasible*🙃
