  • At the beginning of mowing season this year a new issue came up with my 1 year old Ryobi self propelled 40 volt brushless mower. The blade wouldn't start so this is my story of how I fixed it and saved money and time using the parts in the video. I hope this helps you

Great video. Kudos for posting that. Yes, I hit the button. Yeah, first thing I had to get used to with mine is the fact NO washing, NO hose and certainly no pressure washing the deck. Waiting until the grass is totally dry is prolly a smart thing as well. Mine will only be used 10-15 minutes max with the rest of the mowing with my tractor. Hopefully that will extend its life expectancy.

I think I better get warrantee work done on mine. I bought mine last year and the mower was never left outside in fact I stored it in my living room on a tarp near the front door. Mine has the fold down handle and I couldn't see any switches. Well since I bought mine using PayPal I should be able to pull up the receipt. I will comment when Ryobi looks at the mower. 73

Well my son's quit working about 4 months in and it was a pinched wire at the base of the handle... it didn't have a switch on the handle fold lock part either

Your welcome ... I learned a lot from the experience.... so many times I see things just aren't engineered very smart. After 45 years of restoring old cars you realize engineers aren't always your friend lol

Why would you spray water on a lawnmower? i think you should keep it dry

It is my sons and they kept it under a porch but rain could get to it when they didn't cover it .... and some people like to rinse them off to keep them looking new. The point is if I was designing something with sensitive electrical components I would want to ensure they didn't get wet ...

It did although I did not have the same problem; that being said yours is the first video that I've seen that shows the cover removed and I also wondered about potential risk of clipping that wire that gets caught by the handle. I will try to replicate your fix for that!

My last ryobi mower lasted me years even though I bought it used and abused. My brand new one died in 6 months or so of light use.
Idk what happened but ryobi has gone downhill. Garbage design, cheap garbage parts, and they don’t stand by their product at all anymore. They want you to drive hours away to drop it off at a repair facility which already has literally dozens sitting around for months just waiting for back ordered parts.

I have a 21" Ryobi 40v, clearly says don't rinse off with water, just wipe clean 😮 Also mine has 5 year warranty, which my mower motor works but blade doesn't 😢

Hi Ronald, my original controller model# PM177-20B-1 is broken, the only controller I can find online is PM177-20C-1, wondering if the 20C-1 can be compatible?

I just did some research and some of them just had an extra wire for like the bagger or a switch on handle lock ... so it's a possibility
