  • IoT OEM's now have access to their own Office edition specifically for OEMs that build fixed purpose IoT devices. This new office edition has many benefits that make it simple for OEMs to install and activate a license of office. Check out my blog on Office IoT Standard LTSC here: www.arrow.com/...

    I know consumers that would pay premium for Office LTSC and Windows OS LTSC builds. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't offer this outside of OEMs when they have them available.

      100% agree but Microsoft wants to sell Office 365 and get people on subscriptions. For OEM's that doesn't work and OEM's also need longer support.

      @@WindowsChamp Makes sense that it doesn't work for OEMs. I think a lot of consumers would argue that subscriptions doesn't work for themselves either! :-) Honestly, I don't know any normal user that actually enjoys the subscription model zeitgeist. There are also a lot of non OEM workstation use cases that would benefit strongly from the LTSC builds. Makes sense to offer it at a premium to those willing to pay for it. I wish I understood the logic behind not offering all available options to consumers.

      Yeah if your hardware doesn't support Windows 11, it is best to stay with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC for years until you are ready to replace the hardware with a Windows 11 supported hardware configuration.

      @AllisonRunnel I have that processor! Great processor however it came out in 2014 so it is almost 10 years old. It's a 4th Generation processor and I'm afraid that Microsoft only goes back to the 7th Gen Core i7 for supported processors. To run Windows 11 on a supported processor, you would need to upgrade.

    Ken, do you know why the Office IoT Standard LTSC is double the price of MS Office for home and Business?

    • @WindowsChamp
      @WindowsChamp  3 месяца назад

      Yes, it is because it is based on the Volume full Standard Edition which actually has an even higher price. I really pushed on Microsoft to bring the price down and they did agree to a lower price but it is still much higher than the Home and Business. For some of our OEM customers, the ability to activate with a single key and have offline activation is well worth the extra cost.

      @@WindowsChamp it is hard to explain to the end user this difference. It is not the partner that uses the MS, and pays the bills. It is the end user.

      I have not tested Office on the Arm platform. I'm hoping to test it out this week and I'll let you know.

    Installation guide shows that its just already available standard LTSC 2021 with MAK activation, there is nothing new. I don't understand why this new Office Iot term invented, is it coined by you or Microsoft?

      @WindowsChamp  Год назад

      The Microsoft IoT division created it specifically for OEM IoT's that need to ship office with their appliances. The version you are referencing is for an end-user and corporations for internal use and general purpose use. OEM's typically do not know the end-user when they are building their appliances. My video covers the difficulties of attempting to use the regular version of Office vs this new IoT version. If you are not an OEM that builds appliances then this version of Office isn't even available to you.
