Because eBay is such a huge, "professional" company, I am shocked that they won't, at the very least, tell you what categories you are no longer allowed to sell. Ludicrous! Causes you, as a seller such a terrible waste of time and a loss of money. Thank goodness they lifted the restriction, but how it was handled was very unprofessional.
I only recently discovered your RUclips channel, and have been thoroughly enjoying your videos! I'm so sorry that you had to go through this legal situation with ebay. From: an Ohio neighbor 40 miles north.😉
As a full time online seller I absolutely despise eBay. I started on eBay about 20 years ago. Listed daily, paid my bill on time every month without incident, maintained 100% feedback, back when 100% actually meant something. I was very pro eBay until I started seeing stories like yours. EBay pulling the rug out from under sellers without warning, freezing Paypal balances (back when the two were essentially one company), banning sellers without reasonable explanations, and so on and so on. At the time it was just a fun part time thing for me, I had a full time job and was making great money, so my eBay income wasn't a big deal. Fast forward 15 years and I opened my own Resale Boutique. I started cross posting things online right around the time eBay expanded item specifics. Each day there was a new surprise from eBay. It got to the point that I was spending so much time trying to keep eBay pleased that it was taking all the joy out of online selling. Previously eBay was the only place to sell, but I found that many new venues had hit the scene and the stress of listing and dealing with them was zero in comparison to eBay. When Covid hit I went 100% online seamlessly. The transition to eBay could never have happened as smoothly as it did on other sites. I eventually completely closed down my eBay account which was an ordeal I can't even begin to describe, but that 100% confirmed my decision to never do business with them again. One year later I checked to ensure my account was deleted (since my eBay account carries my business name); sure enough the 20 phone calls, each with assurances that my account was closed, meant nothing. The account remains. Because online selling is now my full time income there is absolutely no way I would ever put even one egg in the eBay basket. I don't have the time or patience to deal with them and there are too many other places to sell that don't play the games eBay does with their sellers.
I used to be a power seller on ebay.I made mistakes on couple of resells. I know you are probably making alot more than I ever did but between mc999 and other silly stuff I gave up. I now only sell a video game I'm tired of. Godspeed with your business 🙏🏽
My guess is Ebay was named in this lawsuit as well? Translated, Ebay was exposed to a lawsuit and was/is looking for ways to minimize that exposure...by shutting you down even if only temporally.
It could happen to anyone of us. It is really scary to consider for people who make their sole living from this. I just got my first VERO on a pair of womens shoes that have a red bottom. It seems Louboutin has red bottom trademark patent. Ughhhh. Glad ur back on track
I’m so happy that this issue has been resolved! This must have been a terrible few weeks for you and your wife especially knowing that this is your business and potentially loosing all of the hard work you have accomplished so far. I enjoy watching you and have always felt that you were among the resellers that have been open and honest with your subscribers. Every time I list an antique postcard of Black Americana, the postcard gets pulled off and I get a warning. If you search completed auctions there are sold listings of the exact same antique card sold by another seller. It drives me nuts, I am trying to not get paranoid but WTF?!
Linda, personally anytime something is pulled off Ebay I just stop listing that item. It's never worth risking my account. Sometimes, there can be sold comps and maybe that person got a warning or a suspension. You never really know. Good luck with your resale business.
Wow very scary situation the more I do this the more I realize eBay isn’t here for the sellers. Every problem I’ve had including breaks, lost items and dissatisfied buyers eBay automatically backs the buyer. In eBay’s defense they do back the sellers once you call them to complain but you have to call.
@@kristiemetzger9194 it’s a bit tricky but these are the steps I use and they actually call you and it works every time yes they are overseas but they are always very helpful so go on your desktop/iPad version of eBay top right click on help&contact a how can we help you page pops up scroll down to contact us below need more help click that a contact us menu pops up now just click on any subject it doesn’t matter then do it again (any subject) now at top under contact us mines in blue highlight click chat with automated assistant box on right appears click a subject again ( yes a lot of steps but once you do it you will remember) so you click on subject and a automated response will appear now you click on Still need more help next Contact an agent then Have us call you will appear click on Have us call you most of the time your number is prepopulated sometimes you add it boom they usually call in like 2 mins
Wow! That would of had me very nervous too. Glad you were able to get it all sorted out. What other platforms are you thinking about shifting some items to?
I don't know Ebay just does not STOP those items from being listed prior to someone getting sued in the first place. Why doesn't Ebay just have sellers upload proof of authority to sell these restricted VERO items BEFORE a person is even able to list the item? That would save sellers a lot of grief and stop all this lawyer crap hunting down people that are selling the stuff.
True, they seem to try to control every other aspect of how we run our stores, why do they not do it when it makes sense to. We pay them to provide seller protections.
I'm betting you're already looking into Flyp and List Perfectly as well as the other selling platforms. I've been thinking I need to do that as well. Sooner rather than later for the purpose of having the other revenue streams in place
Just curious, when you would try to list the items that it was blocking you from listing during the mc999 issue, did it pop up and say you cannot sell this item because you are in a lawsuit and not to relist the item???
Using no keywords to sell restricted items is EXACTLY how I got them listed and sold. People looking for those items have searches saved for basic titles. Examples: Coke Codes, Medical Supplies, and Licensed Beauty Supplies. NOTE these items were not things that sit, they sell the same day listed most times.
Unbelievable. Boy does all this sound like bureaucracy at its best. There are things you can’t list, but you don’t know what they are until you list them! You are SUCH a nice guy trying to work it out first. I would have gone straight to the lawyer. Interestingly there is a lawyer on line that does civil work and would probably have talked to you- name isPeter Tragos. Has a channel online called The Lawyer You Know. Ran across him during the Depp trial. Check him out- at least in case this ever happens again (God forbid!)
I think you took the right course of action with everything. I would have asked the company to contact eBay and tell them that you’re no longer associated with the lawsuit. But that depends on how willing they would be to work with you. Glad you worked everything out!
I completely understand your frustration here. I wasn't as big as you but I kept at least 5 hundred items in my ebay store...but I found when you start with 1 problem with ebay, they just keep coming. So I made my decision to walk away, it was sad because you really make good and loyal friends, it just was too much 4 me. Best of luck to you and your family, and I will continue to watch.
I used to eBay back in 2002 & 2003 as a way to jump out of my corporate job and care for newborn and other two younger kids. Back then it was great, I had great sourcing and made good profits. Well in late 2003 I went back to my corporate cubicle. One day I heard someone call it “FEEBAY” and was thinking about jumping back into online selling. Are there any better sites to use?
I have heard that if you rely on eBay for your main income that you should have 2 eBay stores going. If one has an issue you still have the other one to fall back on.
Ebay works off of IP addresses, both accounts will get shut down and anyone's account that has a computer that you logged into ebay with,,, and anyone they get linked to. One suspension could set a domino effect.
My take: 1. The pandemic made the lazy even lazier, someone was sitting on your paperwork, moving slow… 2. Lawyers have set up a system where you have to involve a lawyer to make things move faster.
Tyvm for the heads up. I'm so very sorry that you had to go through that. Silver lining it was a learning curve for you and perhaps ebay, too. Maybe now, they will list what items are not allowed. 🍀 Also, would the buyer be in trouble too for buying the item? Hmmm...🤯
No learning curve, only thing to learn is how capricious and random ebay is and how poorly they manage and respond to buyers concerns, but u probably already know that..
What a nightmare, Dustin. You both work so hard and then the "big guns" move in. It's so frustrating when you don't have a resource to look at before you list? It's like roulette. I'm glad you resolved it by sheer grit. I just would like to see more choice for platforms that are reasonable and fair because then eBay would have to be more flexible. Although if I've had an issue they have been helpful.🤪 You can't keep a good guy&girl down so glad you shared this.
Dustin I've had a part time eBay Store since 2016 and planning to go fulltime after I retire from my career in approximately 2 years. My question is do you have business insurance for protection? I am contemplating getting insurance before I go full time.
@@propicker would love to get more information as to what type of insurance, cost, and coverage. Is there anyway you can cover the topic in future episodes?
Oh no, they got you too! It seems like everyone selling on ebay is getting hit with these lawsuits. In California, it reminds me of the lawsuits under the Americans with Disability Act. Every small business was being hit with lawsuits for the tiniest infraction, like the light switch or mirror is the bathroom in 1/10 of an inch too high. The lawyers would demand $4000 or more to drop the suit. Its really extortion.
Broooo this is what hurts me we released a video like this recently! Over 100k views on RUclips! But I am a 6 figure Reseller … eBay shutting me down would be catastrophic as I’m sure for y’all it would be to :( it’s getting so scary to sell on the platform!
Why would eBay shut down a store over one simple product. You don’t see grocery and department stores shutting down every time they have a lawsuit. You would think that at some point they would realize that by shutting down a store with your volume would be reducing their profit as well. Unbelievable!!
@Propicker Dustin - You've explained that you're bound by a confidentiality provision. So, I don't expect you to respond to my comment. I don't know the mechanics of how Ebay negates a VERO complaint. Perhaps Ebay received a notice that the rights holder dismissed Dustin from the case. Perhaps. Two weeks seems like the typical corporate lag for a rights holder to inform Ebay and for Ebay's wheels to spin to react and remove the restrictions. Just speculating.
I lost five hundred dollars on eBay isold a phone the guy put the five hundred in my acc and it didn’t go through I had already sent the phone well he went overseas and eBay said they couldn’t do anything glad you are not leaving I love watching you
Hi just got same pop up message on eBay when I tried to list a Nike shoe. but I haven’t gotten any message on eBay or my email. I don’t get it I looked for a lawsuit but there is nothing. I asked when they put the restriction and they said it was on may 3rd. It’s very frustrating because now I won’t know what I’ll be able to list. I want to settle the lawsuit asap but how can I if there hasn’t been a lawsuit sent to me via eBay or email. Please help
This was crazy! Really does not surprise me because everything in this world is getting crazier as the days pass. Praying for everything and everyone ! 🙏
I got hit with a price gouging restriction and every now and then it won't allow me to list random items, ie disney cars steering wheel, pokemon mask, star wars funko pop, etc....weird
what the he.. is a price gouge restriction. If i want to list a used paper towel for $10k that is my business. If someone wants to pay $10k for it that is their business.
I just had 3 listings taken down for Vero hp expired ink... Ebay wants me to email hp and then contact them... I get they do this for counterfeit merchandise but don't you think I date it 2022 rather than 2007.
So sorry this happened to you! You clearly work so hard and I know this must've felt like a slap to your face! Glad it was resolved, but man...that is so damaging to your mental health!
sounds terrible/frustrating have had to deal with a few restrictions/temporary bans reselling a big variety of items the ten years I made a living doing it with no real job, friends were jealous but never realized how you never know how much money you will have week to week as nothing is guaranteed, no insurance and I hustled 3x harder than them/worked insane hours because if I did not my dogs and I did not eat.. trying to talk to ebay/paypal to explain anything is like trying to climb up a cliff with oil on your feet. not much more frustrating not once did I ever get a suspension over turned. eventually they shut disabled my accounts and locked over $2000 I had in paypal I could no longer have no matter how many people and their managers I spoke to. there were no other options for selling the level we were selling at then either. no facebook marketplace. only had craigslist with limited to no reach. needless to say that ended my resale days. I still can not help but size everything I see up when out hunting for myself and making a game of checking comps before/after and making notes glad to hear you got it lifted. never got sued or that restriction
Omg Dustin I can't imagine how stressed out you and your wife were. To not only be sued for such a small item (I bet you won't buy anything from the bin stores anymore) to having your account suspended. I feel horrible you but I'm also glad it's over. My question is this: was your store completely shut down or were you still making sales? I had no idea ebay had a way to prevent you from listing certain items or categories or keywords for that matter. My guess about what happened is that court case reviews usually happen once a month and it took that long to get a formal court case dismissal (heard in court and signed off by the judge) sent to ebay. 3 weeks is not too long honestly to have a case dismissed these days. But if that was the case ebay could have said they had to wait to receive an official dismissal. In any case I'm glad you're both back. I'm going to start cross posting now too. ❤️👍🏽
Sorry to hear all this man, so happy for you that it is being lifted! Crazy this all came from a dog tooth brush. Smh. I personally sell on Mercari basically exclusively for the ease, lower fees and less competition, but it's a way smaller market than eBay or course. But I'm super part time with it due to a full time job, 2 young sons and postgraduate studies, so of course I'm in a different place than you.

Please don't let this disrupt your business keep on plugging because you do that's what you do you do that one last stop you do that one last shop.
Im happy you got it handled. Even though we check the vero list it doesnt prevent this from happening. I wish you & wifey much Happieness with less stress
I have so much trouble with prohibited stuff and vero on ebay because I can buy something and look it up and there will be hundreds of them listed and sold and I will list mine and then ebay will remove it and say I can't sell it. well then you might what to tell that to the 20 pages of other sellers that are selling them also
Not an eBay seller, and this makes me not want to be. So confusing how they can be like you can’t sell certain items/brands, but we won’t tell you what they are. Kind of like the IRS, we know how much you owe us, but we’ll let you try to figure it out and if we don’t think that’s right, we’ll let you know.
Thats why I mostly use Facebook Marketplace now. Especially this year. Facebook is waiving all fees through this year. Even before that they were only 5% fees anyways. PLUS shipping is so much easier

Hey Dustin, As your eBay store get bigger and stronger. I WOULD RECOMEND YOU DON'TBUY PERFUME, MEDICINE LOTION POWDER anything related to Chemical ...from Garage sale..those things have more chance to get sued or trouble for you.
Dang sorry about that man. Keep up the great RUclips videos! I appreciate them!
Whattttttt!!! No one messes with the GOAT 🐐 thanks for sharing ur story Dustin, we got ur back always!!!
Glad hints were finally cleared up, can’t wait to hear of the other platforms you & Jessica decide to pursue.
Wow Dustin, I can’t imagine what you and your wife were going through these last few weeks.. I’m glad to hear that ebay finally did what was right.. I agree, don’t put all your eggs in one basket, especially since there are other platforms to take advantage of.. hopefully this little hiccup will be a positive thing for you guys, in that you can now start expanding your business on other platforms! Thank you for sharing your experience and being as transparent as you can since it was a legal issue. Wishing you and your wife prosperity as you grow your businesses and explore new endeavors! 😊
Thanks Lisa!
Wow good thing it got lifted! Nothing but support for your youtube content ❤ thanks for your realness
I am really glad you got it worked out, you are truly diligent in your business!
Glad all came out ok! Thank you for your service.
Sorry you guys had to go through this. So happy it all worked out for you.
I used to be a power seller on ebay.I made mistakes on couple of resells.
I know you are probably making alot more than I ever did but between mc999 and other silly stuff I gave up.
I now only sell a video game I'm tired of.
Godspeed with your business 🙏🏽
Glad it was resolved for you and your wife. Good luck in your endeavors.
I'm glad you got things worked out. As always thanks for sharing!! have a great rest of the weekend!!!
Thanks Bruce, you too!
Good luck moving forward and I’ll keep watching your channel in the future. 💕💕💕
Thanks Kathy!
Same
There are Facebook groups that sell black americana antiques because of this reason
@@soulman423 thanks I did not know that!
Thanks so much for sharing this story. It is a scary situation for sure. You reminded us that perseverance is important.
What number you use
We've started cross posting to mercari and posh slowly.
It said something along the lines as we were unable to list this items as we were named defendants in a lawsuit.
I am so glad it worked out. I am sorry you had to go through that.
Sounds like a very stressful situation that you guys didn't deserve, sorry you had to go through that. Glad you got it cleared up.
I've gotten threatening messages from Lawyers on eBay for listing items that only licensed retailers are allowed to sell.
I'm sorry this happened to you. Glad it worked out. God bless you and your wife.
WOW THIS COULD HURT SOMEONE REAL BAD
So glad it worked out for you in the end!!!
Sorry you had to go thru that, sending good vibes your way.
I'm so glad things worked out for you! Love your videos, and look forward to many more.
Thanks Carol!
Ebay provides the most traffic for our sort of product mix.
I have heard that if you rely on eBay for your main income that you should have 2 eBay stores going. If one has an issue you still have the other one to fall back on.
Hmmm that may just work but of course it would be a bit more work keeping track of two sites
Wrong. If they shut down one, they will shut down ALL your other stores on the site.
Ebay works off of IP addresses, both accounts will get shut down and anyone's account that has a computer that you logged into ebay with,,, and anyone they get linked to. One suspension could set a domino effect.
My take:
1. The pandemic made the lazy even lazier, someone was sitting on your paperwork, moving slow…
2. Lawyers have set up a system where you have to involve a lawyer to make things move faster.
It’s crazy how you don’t know that you can’t list an item until you do it and then get in trouble. So sorry you guys had to deal with all of this.
Keep your business going!!
You and your wife are doing a great job 👏🏻!
Tyvm for the heads up. I'm so very sorry that you had to go through that. Silver lining it was a learning curve for you and perhaps ebay, too. Maybe now, they will list what items are not allowed. 🍀
Also, would the buyer be in trouble too for buying the item?
This made my heart hurt for you. Im happy it eventually was resolved. You didn't deserve to go through that.
Dustin I've had a part time eBay Store since 2016 and planning to go fulltime after I retire from my career in approximately 2 years. My question is do you have business insurance for protection? I am contemplating getting insurance before I go full time.
I do have business insurance.
So was VeRO saying the dog toothbrush was counterfeit? That is what happened the NurseFlipper, she sold something from a mystery box.
@@richardt1792 patent infringement, essentially
I'm glad that its over ! I love your videos keep it on
I am so sorry that this dog toothbrush put you through so much torture. I'm so glad it's over for you now, you are back Mister Pro picker!
PS: I won't be reselling any of those, thanks for the heads up. Sorry again.
Please help
Sorry that you guys had to go through this. 🌻🌻
This is INSANE. I am so sorry you had to go through this.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Hi there I am new. DO I have to weigh each item as I list them. Can you explain the listing process for me.
.Ty
This was crazy! Really does not surprise me because everything in this world is getting crazier as the days pass. Praying for everything and everyone ! 🙏
I know this is definitely a wake up call for you and yours. Multiple streams!
Wondering if things like this and VERO issues are what made you stop going to the bin stores?
VERO was not what pushed me away from the bin stores. I actually have 2 different trips I have in the pipeline to eventually edit into videos.
Glad it was resolved, but I’d be looking to other platform for sure.
I just had 3 listings taken down for Vero hp expired ink... Ebay wants me to email hp and then contact them... I get they do this for counterfeit merchandise but don't you think I date it 2022 rather than 2007.
Gut-busting laugh at the end! if you like stressing your tail off is what you should've included! 🤣😂🤣
So sorry this happened to you! You clearly work so hard and I know this must've felt like a slap to your face! Glad it was resolved, but man...that is so damaging to your mental health!
Sorry to hear that someone tried to sue you.
sounds terrible/frustrating have had to deal with a few restrictions/temporary bans reselling a big variety of items the ten years I made a living doing it with no real job, friends were jealous but never realized how you never know how much money you will have week to week as nothing is guaranteed, no insurance and I hustled 3x harder than them/worked insane hours because if I did not my dogs and I did not eat.. trying to talk to ebay/paypal to explain anything is like trying to climb up a cliff with oil on your feet. not much more frustrating not once did I ever get a suspension over turned. eventually they shut disabled my accounts and locked over $2000 I had in paypal I could no longer have no matter how many people and their managers I spoke to. there were no other options for selling the level we were selling at then either. no facebook marketplace. only had craigslist with limited to no reach. needless to say that ended my resale days. I still can not help but size everything I see up when out hunting for myself and making a game of checking comps before/after and making notes
glad to hear you got it lifted. never got sued or that restriction
We were able to make sales. We were restricted from posting random items.
@@propicker I'm glad you were still making sales. 👍🏼😊
Sounds like you have a full plate!
@@propicker true but still not working those 70+ hour.weeks like you man! Appreciate the content.
Are you on Whatnot selling? its a good hedge :)
I'm not yet. I'll be looking into it now though after this. 😅
But i don't understand, why did the buyer open law suit for that brush? What was the ptoblem with the brush?
I'm so sorry you went through all this b******* dustin, as if your job isn't hard enough just to try to keep your head above water you do such a great job it's very entertaining I enjoy watching your videos. Please don't let this disrupt your business keep on plugging because you do that's what you do you do that one last stop you do that one last shop.
Im happy you got it handled. Even though we check the vero list it doesnt prevent this from happening. I wish you & wifey much Happieness with less stress
I have so much trouble with prohibited stuff and vero on ebay because I can buy something and look it up and there will be hundreds of them listed and sold and I will list mine and then ebay will remove it and say I can't sell it. well then you might what to tell that to the 20 pages of other sellers that are selling them also
Never heard what the issue was with the dog toothbrush . Did I miss something ?
Patent issues with the item
They need to get things done in an efficient time. Seems they let you worry but took 3 weeks to get done. It's awful when they do that kind of thing
If you get a sale from an attorney's office probably best to cancel it
I got one yesterday from an attorney’s office and cancel it 😅 better safe than sorry.
Thats why I mostly use Facebook Marketplace now. Especially this year. Facebook is waiving all fees through this year. Even before that they were only 5% fees anyways. PLUS shipping is so much easier
