I can consistently get 55+ on my 2001 Yamaha Zuma just from changing the belt and weights. It’s pretty amazing what these little 50cc bikes can do. Good job on the Ruck
I just did 50mph on my 06 met without any of that stuff on Bayshore Ave in South San Fransisco. I just replaced the belt , new polini & running all 5.6 weights. New NYC drive face, new spark plug, new air filter, fresh royal purple oil change. It was only hitting 32...now it hit 50...what's that? Well heck yeah it was wide open throttle bombing downhill. Hmmm. It now did 45 on level. Big improvement! Like having a different scooter! It turns heads now!!! 😎
the NYC driveface allows the belt to climb higher up the driveface. past the groove thats keeping it from maximum ratio needed. that NYC driveface part was the key to climbing past 35mph. i had a polini variator as well.
rejjetted carb with no airfilter? i used UNI universal foam sheet n cut my own filter and used orginal spot for filter. always use an airfilter unless you only want your motor to last very long. i also put a thin layer of grease before the filter that grabs lots of dirt n grit before it gets to filter area.also my scooter didn't last long at high speed. maybe a gy6 motor swap isn't such a bad idea.

Really enjoy your videos. I've been wanting a Ruckus for a while and am finally hoping to get one in the next few months (in fact, my wife said we might be getting a pair of them so we can ride together). I keep seeing all the possibilities with these things but, having never owned a scooter or motorcycle, I'm planning to ease into things. I am interested in the TRS Stage 2 kit, for sure, but it will be my first time really tooling around on something, with some help from a buddy of mine with a little more experience. I'm looking at it as a fun project/learning experience. Excuse the noob questions but, is the Stage 2 kit compatible with a 2018 model, and what would you estimate as the amount of time it might take to install all parts and properly tune it? Thanks and keep making these Ruck vids!
fliptophead9 that’s awesome! They are a blast. Yes the great part about the Ruckus is all of trs parts fit 2003-2018. It’s the only vehicle Honda has made that hasn’t changed since production. So the stage 2 will fit. It will probably take a few hours to get it all on per scooter.
I would but they have instructions already for this in the box they come in. I may put one on my new build but it won’t be happening for a few weeks before I would get to wiring it.
Robert it will work on any bike. It just needs a power and ground. The rest of the wires are all external off the unit. It’s so much easier than the koso gauge.

Grew up dogging a friends old ruckus & absolutely loved it. Been thinking about getting one for my commute since it's so short. I have to hit a small stretch of 45mph with light traffic & would love to be able to do 50! Do you have a rough estimate of the price of parts to get a new stock model to those specs?
Indeed did you do. My Zuma 125 did 60mph stock. Now it does 74mph GPS verified with a 158 cc Big Bore Kit,, up gears, high-lift cam, and proper clutch and variator tuning.
How come the speedometer on the bike only showed a high of 46.5 MPH? What speedometer app are you using on the phone? Also what would be the cost of parts & labor you would charge to do this on a stock Rukus?
The speedos that are digital are only calibrated within 5 mph faster or slower. They are rarely ever perfect since they read off a magnet on the wheel and don’t always pick it up. That’s why I use the gps app it’s accurate with my cars so it perfect for the bike. We don’t work on scooters at the shop but I do on the side. Hit me up on my ig.
Just ordered a Polini Variator and have a NCY CDI but need a velo stack. I’m at 4200 altitude and about 200lbs, what do you suggest for carb tuning and variator weights?

Does tuning the scooter effect its legal status? I know for a 50cc you don't need a motorcycle license, and I know that you aren't increasing the scooter's capacity by doing these mods to it. I'm just wondering if, by modding the scooter in this way, I would be opening myself up to getting into trouble with a grouchy cop. Also, do these mods require me to stretch out the Ruckus in any way, or can I keep it looking stock? Anybody with more knowledge, please let me know.
Hey Bobby Question on the Polini variatore. What’s better rollers or sliders. Because people would say that you shouldn’t be using sliders only rollers are best for the polini variatore. Thank you soo much! Your Videos are every help explaining how to tuning a 49CC.
Hey bro, I live in wisconsin and have a stock ruck with 9000. It has an intake on it and that’s it. It’s pretty flat here in wisconsin can be hilly sometime, I weigh 149 and the ruckus does 42-43 consistently. I was gonna put a variator in. What kind of weights should I use and do you think with that it’ll help me hit 45-46. Sorry I’m new to the ruckus scene.
Hey Bobby, any suggestions on weights? I’m about 215lbs I have the trs airbox delete, jetted, psp exhaust, rolling wrench evi, polini Variator, ncy drive face. I’m currently using the 5,6 provided with the polini and im only averaging about 42mph
Hey burnout Bobby how can I get my stock ruckus at higher stock speed without modding it much. I’m still paying it off. And the speed limiter is hitting at 41
Great vid Bobby, question: I’ve got the polini w/ 5.5 rollers, you think sliders would help the top end? I’m hitting roughly 42mph. Also you said the stage 2 comes pre jetted? Do I need to buy and install new jets with intake and exhaust? Thanks
The stage 2 comes with the jets needed for that intake you still need to install them along with the shim. Sliders or rollers won’t change mph if it’s the same weight. You’ll just notice a quicker pickup since sliders respond faster. I would do the intake and exhaust same time so you only jet it once. How much do you weigh. That will determine what weights to put in. You also want to have an idea what your rpms are as well.
Awesome, i'm right at 170lbs. I noticed a big acceleration boost with the new rollers and polini. Next step stage 2. Any recommendation on good "stock" street tires for the ruckus. Thanks for the quick reply and sharing the info.
Yeah at 170 I’d say either a 5g with 5.5g mix or straight 5.5g sliders would be good. Yes next would be tvr intake and yoshi. Cdi if you don’t have one yet too. For tires the Michelin bopper is a great street tire. Do the 130 in the rear and 120 up front.
You the man Bobby, thanks for the feedback. Just curious, with the stage 2, Cdi, tires, finely tuned polini. What's the top speed I should be shooting for without doing any bore stuff? Thanks for all your help.
You should be about 50 mph range. Don’t do a big bore you’ll hurt the motor. They overheat and burn oil. You end up removing the factory nickel lining and causing overheating. You’re welcome man I’m here to help.
Thank you. About a a year after this video came out the company koso came out with a gps adapter for their digital speedo and that’s been spot on for accuracy.
@@burnoutbobby LOL. People don't read or listen you know that. Hey, would you mind telling me where you got the mirrors and if they stay aligned ? Thx.
What rpm is best suited to be in? Valve lift is 10,400 correct? I'm topping out at 39-41mph at 8300-8600rpm. I should probably go lighter sliders huh? I'm 250lbs
Yo nice vid. Can you do more vids with other you tubers like you did with motonosity? You guys made me get one I bought all my parts from the ruck shop.
Malossi Variator Installing for honda ruckus ? It comes with 2 Black Spacers / Washers ! 1 Large 1 & 1 Smaller 1 ! But my instructions are so small I can Not read them ! can you please tell me were they go ? Thanks you Very Very Much Thanks George
That’s tough because that 80cc is a different motor. But usually for the ruckus the peak power is 9500rpm so you will want to get in that range. I’d say 5g weights to start
Been running that stack for 3 years. Nothing gets in. I explained In a video that the wind would have to match your speed then blow the object perfectly sideways to get in the stack. I’ve rode in rain and all conditions now with it on two the shop bikes since 2015 so it’s all good.
I have the polini variator with 5.5 gram sliders, NCY CDI, UNI intake with the reed block off valve plate, GP exhaust, and michelin bopper tires and I'm struggling to even hit 40mph, and it takes forever and a day to get there. I can't figure out whats wrong. It used to hit 43mph stock. Have any advice? Am I doing something wrong??
@@burnoutbobby Okay. It runs fine it just doesn't go as fast. I live in Colorado, do you think the elevation is playing a role? Should i take out the carb and double check everything you think? Thanks for all your responses.
I weigh 230, 40ft above sea level, I have a intake, yoshi exhaust, ncy cdi, 38sj/85mj, what weights should I be using in my polini variator? Also have a new ncy driveface. Currently doing 42 with 6g sliders
Hey Ryan, I have heard that riding a scooter with the cvt cover off risks cracking the swing arm and damaging the engine. Is this a concern with the Ruckus? I frequently tune my cvt, and it would be convenient to just leave the cover off until I get it right. Thanks, and keep up the great videos! -Matt
It can happen but it’s mostly with the gy6 not the stock motor as much. If you are doing it for tuning you are fine. The gy6 was more known for it and then things like the anklebiter came out to help keep that cool look but secure it.
I have tvr velocity intake , hotlap exhaust, cdi jetted at 38/80. i weight about 140ish. Running 6.5 Sliders on polini variator and polini belt have about 150miles on it. did about 47mph. Whats should i do to hit 50ish Thanks
Daniel Saul if the oem belt has low miles it will be good. The tach will help you read rpm your at when you’re doing 48. You may have to go down on weights to 6 g to raise rpm and get you to cross 50
So my trail tech vapor says my revs go up to 12k rpms and i have a combination of 5g and 7g dr pulley sliders i top out about 40.5 i do have ncy plate trs stage 2 etc should i go higher on the weights keep in mind im 5 11 230lb
Your rpm is double what it actually is. There’s no way it’s 12k. It’s probably more along 6k range. Your ppr may be off. Those 7g weights are heavy and holding you back. You need lighter for your weight.
@@burnoutbobby i was wondering why it was so high i have to check and see how can i adjust that or fix the ppr and after i figure that out i guess start tuning with lighter weights. Also when im riding at 15mph or not at full throttle i can here popping sounds from the exhaust does that mean im lean or too rich? Thanks in advance brotha.. 🙏🙏

Trail techs are not accurate regardless they always get you within 3-5mph that is why. I have been doing this a long time and they read off of a magnet that doesn’t always catch right. You can calibrate it all you want and will still not read right. Hence why we don’t sell them anymore.
Jesus Soto every bike is different and most don’t get that lucky id say 98% won’t have that luck you had. Especially not on flat ground and not drafting.

Although some, such as Honda/Yamaha have high-quality internal-components and very sturdy 'box-covers' that are designed to last for many years...ALL 'CDI's function exactly the same, and electricity does not 'move faster' because it has a sticker w/flames on it on the outside!** **WHAT WILL make a huge gain in 'top-end' is the installation of a wind-screen to increase laminar air-flow around the rider...this will generally result in 3MPH gain with no other modifications at all**

If you look at the other comments you’ll see that the trailtech vapor is is anywhere from 2-5mph off due to its magnet based speedo and doesn’t always catch. So that’s why I use gps
You guys are the best! Hey! What’s the safest maximum rpm you can take a stock Get engine?
9800
Burnout Bobby Thank you so much for the knowledge here’s my final results, I finally got to...
At 65° to 70° at 160 pounds, at Sea Level with 38/78 jets, & MNNTHBX intake, Yoshimura Performance Exhaust, Polini Variator, Dr.Pulley 5.0/5.5 Slider combo, NCY CDI n Coil, NGK Iridium 6216 Spark Plug, stock clutch, stock Bando belt, and Stock dry face-best tune so far👌🏽 top speed-46-49.2MPH@9,800RPM’s...Flat Land
That’s pretty good. How many miles on the belt and drive face
Burnout Bobby 710
What is the range of rpms that I should be at when going 50 mph?
9600-9800
Does tuning the scooter effect its legal status? I know for a 50cc you don't need a motorcycle license, and I know that you aren't increasing the scooter's capacity by doing these mods to it. I'm just wondering if, by modding the scooter in this way, I would be opening myself up to getting into trouble with a grouchy cop. Also, do these mods require me to stretch out the Ruckus in any way, or can I keep it looking stock? Anybody with more knowledge, please let me know.
It doesn’t effect the law at all no. The cc stays the same you are just increasing mph. You do no need to stretch it for performance parts no.
I got 2021 ice bear rocket 50 49 cc it hits 40 fast ..
Hey Bobby
Question on the Polini variatore. What’s better rollers or sliders. Because people would say that you shouldn’t be using sliders only rollers are best for the polini variatore.
Thank you soo much!
Your Videos are every help explaining how to tuning a 49CC.
Sliders all day. Don’t listen to those people. The bikes love the sliders. Thank you.
9000 miles
I’d try 6g weights. May be hard with that high of miles
I’d try 5g sliders next time
@@burnoutbobby thanks, I’ll try that and let you know how it goes.
Hey burnout Bobby how can I get my stock ruckus at higher stock speed without modding it much. I’m still paying it off. And the speed limiter is hitting at 41
Stage 1 kit from trs
Why doesn't the vaper unit match gos speedometer
Vapor will never match gps. I’ve answered this about ten times in the comments. It runs off a magnet system and isn’t as accurate.
Sorry that kinda stuff sucks but very cool build anyway
Thank you. About a a year after this video came out the company koso came out with a gps adapter for their digital speedo and that’s been spot on for accuracy.
@@burnoutbobby LOL. People don't read or listen you know that. Hey, would you mind telling me where you got the mirrors and if they stay aligned ? Thx.
Got them from the ruck shop. They should be under mirrors.
Would this be compatible with the PMZ 22 Icebear Maddog?
. A lot of the parts do not work between the two bikes unfortunately.
What rpm is best suited to be in? Valve lift is 10,400 correct? I'm topping out at 39-41mph at 8300-8600rpm. I should probably go lighter sliders huh? I'm 250lbs
Yeah I’d go lighter. I found that each bike is a little different but 9200-9600 usually works for me
Wat handlebar is that
Trs trailtech handlebars
Yo nice vid. Can you do more vids with other you tubers like you did with motonosity? You guys made me get one I bought all my parts from the ruck shop.
gsgambe01 I need to get @motonosity out this way now that he lives closer I’d love to. Thank you
My ruck has that same rattle when the bike is getting to its top end, is it the weights rattling when the variation is all the way open?
joe dirt this rattle is his gas tank cover he has no bolts holding it down lol
could you or someone else list the basic parts to achieve 50mph? im on a extremerly tight budget but already have the cdi but need everything else.
Trs stage 2 kit
@@burnoutbobby wow..... i am so surprised you responded but thank you so much. definitely helpful.
Anytime
Verry verry nice its moving
Thank you
So what app are you using on your pone
marcus riley called max speed for iPhones
Does the CDI really improve the bike !?
Yes if you have supporting mods that get you over 40mph then it works. If you don’t use it then you can’t rev higher meaning you won’t get extra mph.
Burnout Bobby is there a specific brand you got!?
Abelino King I don’t have a 49cc but the only one I ever recommend is the ncy Cdi
Burnout Bobby ok thank you for your help my guy appreciate it 🙏🏽
Please include some links I'm lost, and want to order the wrong thing.
Jasmine A email us at info@theruckshop.com I’ll send a link.
Burnout Bobby I found what you were talking about. Also does this ruin the reliability of the motor?
Jasmine A if installed correctly it will not effect the longevity of the scooter.
I will have to look. I haven’t done a malossi one yet.
@@burnoutbobby that would be great if possable . thanks
50 by just playing with weights? What size would you recommend cor a 210lb guy on 80cc
That’s tough because that 80cc is a different motor. But usually for the ruckus the peak power is 9500rpm so you will want to get in that range. I’d say 5g weights to start
@@burnoutbobby on these are at 8k 8.5k peak power ill give 5gm a shot are sliders really better than rollers or thats just waste of dinero?
Orlando Rimax sliders are definitely better
Seems like everyone likes that round side mirror off the handlebar .. So I copied and bought a set too 😆
Nice!! But, are you going to keep running the unfiltered velocity stack? Does'nt seem like a good idea. Or was just for your speed tests?
Been running that stack for 3 years. Nothing gets in. I explained In a video that the wind would have to match your speed then blow the object perfectly sideways to get in the stack. I’ve rode in rain and all conditions now with it on two the shop bikes since 2015 so it’s all good.
Does it still go only 25mph up hills ??
I wouldn’t know. We don’t have hills in Florida
@@burnoutbobby hahaha I live in TN,that sentence sounded weird to me for obvious reasons.
@@EbolaSquirrel me too. Wow.
I live in L.A.
What was your jetting?
JAmedia it was the jets that came with the kit. 38,78 and shimmed the needle with the velocity stack 1” out. Lip from hose
Did you put the jets in with the intake kit? Did you put the shim in? Hold many miles on the belt. How much do you weigh?
@@burnoutbobby I put the jets in, but I did not put the shim in. 900 miles on belt, and I weigh 160lbs.
Chris Briddick is it was all done right with the install you should be at least 45-47. I wouldn’t put the shim.
@@burnoutbobby Okay. It runs fine it just doesn't go as fast. I live in Colorado, do you think the elevation is playing a role? Should i take out the carb and double check everything you think? Thanks for all your responses.
Chris Briddick yes that and make sure your weights are installed right. Might have to go lower on the jets since you are higher altitude
Hey Bobby, nice vid. Just wondering, what was your rpm when you hit 50 mph?
Close to 10k. Think 9700
What jet did you use ?
The 38 and 78 with a shim that’s what comes with the tvr kit
Burnout Bobby thanks for the info I’ll shim my carb cuz mines has a brake up around 15 to 20 mph and then clears up
Perfect that will clean up mid range
I'm not sure where you're getting your speeds. You were calling out 46mph when the speedometer was at 43.8
I’ve already answered this. The trailtech was not calibrated. I was going off my phone. Thanks.
@@burnoutbobby oooohh ok lol. Good vid!
Arkadi Hughes thank you. I have another one I’m going to get into 50s soon that I’ll record
I would like to no if i can get my 49cc ice bear mad dog scooter to you in get my bike up to 50 mph let me no
Unfortunately I have never worked on those so I’m not familiar and I don’t have the performance parts for that model sorry
I weigh 230, 40ft above sea level, I have a intake, yoshi exhaust, ncy cdi, 38sj/85mj, what weights should I be using in my polini variator? Also have a new ncy driveface. Currently doing 42 with 6g sliders
I’d go down on weights. That will raise the rpm up giving you more mph. I would try 5g and see.
@@burnoutbobby thankyou. Just ordered some 5g sliders
Let me know how it goes
Hey Ryan, I have heard that riding a scooter with the cvt cover off risks cracking the swing arm and damaging the engine. Is this a concern with the Ruckus? I frequently tune my cvt, and it would be convenient to just leave the cover off until I get it right. Thanks, and keep up the great videos! -Matt
It can happen but it’s mostly with the gy6 not the stock motor as much. If you are doing it for tuning you are fine. The gy6 was more known for it and then things like the anklebiter came out to help keep that cool look but secure it.
Thanks, good to hear 👍
Bruh. Buying it all meow 😂
whats the best cam for the ruckus 2018
I would leave it stock. It’s a pain doing a cam on a ruck. Had a customer just do one and said it wasn’t worth it
@@burnoutbobby would 4.5 gram weights help with getting to 50mph for some one over the 200 lbs
thanks for the info.
It can help yes. It’s all about the supporting mods as well though.
@@burnoutbobby thanks
I have tvr velocity intake , hotlap exhaust, cdi jetted at 38/80. i weight about 140ish. Running 6.5 Sliders on polini variator and polini belt have about 150miles on it. did about 47mph. Whats should i do to hit 50ish Thanks
May want to go to an oem belt. What rpm are you at when doing 47? Also make sure your tires are at max psi.
Burnout Bobby ill try the oem belt. i dont currently have a tach so im not sure lol
Daniel Saul if the oem belt has low miles it will be good. The tach will help you read rpm your at when you’re doing 48. You may have to go down on weights to 6 g to raise rpm and get you to cross 50
Burnout Bobby I will give it a shot thanks man 🙏🏼
Keep me posted
can anybody tell me who makes ATR parts i bought a 2010 ruckus GET from kansas city and has ATR parts all over it and cant find anything on ATR thanks
They don’t have a us distributor anymore
46mph is what I seen.
GPS? Or the speedo that’s off ?
What jets are in there
@@burnoutbobby i really havent checked to be honest i bought the bike last friday i know it has the trs stage 2 intake but im not sure if they changed the jets
The jets could be off. It usually will have 78 main jet 38 idle and then a shim on the needle.
Now i want one lol 👍🏆.
Dude 45 u said 47 .. 48.5?
I’m not looking at the vapor it’s off
Nice bike he has,I have a stock and ima see how long everything lasts,I get 38 mph and have 7600 on my belt.cant get a dealer to even touch it since people want to just rob you in cost, they assume your stupid,so ima get a impact and change it myswlf, nice work😊
Yeah that belt and drive face probably need replacing
Mine does 40...its stock.
Fun
I weight 110 what kind of weight should I get?
Probably 6g or 6.5g
I'm 205lbs and just ordered the Stage 2 kit for my 2020 Ruckus. Do you suggest the 5.5gram sliders or the other weights?
I would try 5g to help spin the crank
good wow
zero to 30 mpz was roughly 7 seconds; not bad.
I was mistaken, thought you said 20 mph in 7 seconds, deleted the comment but I said "thats....thats not good"
if you could ever do this to a clone id let you use mine lol
Haha thank you we will see what the future has in store.
@@burnoutbobby is there any rideouts in zhills been trying to find some ppl to ride with
There is not unfortunately. If you go on Florida ruckus riders you can post on their Fb and find local people to ride
that shit went 45.2
Joanchovyy I mean the gps shows what I did Hahahaha.
If you really did go that fast why is the Trail Tech off why wouldn't you reset it and make it right
Trail techs are not accurate regardless they always get you within 3-5mph that is why. I have been doing this a long time and they read off of a magnet that doesn’t always catch right. You can calibrate it all you want and will still not read right. Hence why we don’t sell them anymore.
Plus it’s right there on the phone gps what I really did if you are in doubt
I had a 05 that went 47 with just a polini and cdi
Jesus Soto every bike is different and most don’t get that lucky id say 98% won’t have that luck you had. Especially not on flat ground and not drafting.
Burnout Bobby yea i hit 47 on flats on the good days when it wasn't windy but than i switched to a 150 😁 wanted to go faster and it was a stock ruckus
Jesus Soto 150 is the way to go
Definitely you guys need to make a shop in Lehigh acres fl you'll definitely be having customers 😂😂
What a waste of money to spend on your ruckus to make it go a few miles per hour faster. BTW, thanks for helping me waste my money, That few mph really makes a difference navigating through traffic.
It’s a 49cc it’s not meant to be a street bike man. Don’t get a scooter if you want a fast bike.
