Son weighs 150lb and he's going 55 with a buried speedo..no drafting cars or downhill. I weigh 200 and almost get to 50 on his. We've done all your mentioned mods before seeing your video (thorough and good btw #thumbsup) with the exception of NO aftermarket CDI rev limiter bypass and we only modded the STOCK exhaust by drilling it straight through to open the internal baffles with a 1/2" wide 2ft long drill bit. Spending $300 on a yosh pipe was ridiculous and modding the OEM muffler works just fine (and sounds good too). Amazing how you can go 50+ on a 49cc bulletproof GET engine.
can you maybe take a video or picture of the exhaust? for me the yoshi pipes cost $700 ish where i live so its a big no for me. i really want to do something like that to my exhuast but want to hear and see what its like.
Another thing I forgot was “check your tire pressure!”. Sounds silly but I rolling around with 15psi and as soon as I aired up my tires I gained 4mph! Lol
Small Engine Velocity if i adjust or turn off the rev limiter.. what happens? My stock Ruckus has a speed warning signal that blinks everytime I reach the speed of 40
I wasn't aware of a speed warning light. Is that what it is called in the manual? But regardless you won't "feel" your bike lurch at the rev limiter but rather go past it. Just make sure to have a tach and you can look at it to make sure you are safe.
Small Engine Velocity the light is red.. and below it says, SPEED WARNING. It only blinks when I reach speed of 40 then turns off as soon as I slow down. Really, overheating? It doesn't blink at all even if I go 30 consistently the entire ride
I wish I could just take my bike to the mechanic and say “here I want it to go faster, just don’t remove the motor or alter the bikes general appearance. I agree. you know your stuff. I did exactly what you said. All at once however and not in any particular order I do 50mph and a consistent 44mph if the wind is an issue. you forget to tell them they will blow up their engine at 10.5k rpms they need that tach before a ncy cdi so they don't rev past 10.5k rpms an blow their engine. 8750rpms to 10,000 rpms means 5-7 mph increase I agree that ncy cdi comes last but a tach is very important and the only thing I would change about your video is tell people how important a tachometer is.
So what’s point of tach ? Does it stop from blowing engine or just tell u your going over ? New to the whole scene definitely don’t wana blow my brand engine 😂
Pretty good list and explanation. I'm surprised you didn't mention the belt. It's also important in my opinion. You want one long enough to travel pretty high on the variator. Also, if you're not a lightweight rider 170lbs or under, I cant say I would recommend the polini or the weight sizes setup you recommended in the vid.
Thanks for the tips! I have all those mods except for the variator and rev limiter. Getting around 42 tops. Excited to add the others and see the results!
This is all great stuff. I'd also like to add that making your own aluminum body parts will reduce the weight. Lots of vids on RUclips for that as well

The whole idea of improving performance with an internal combustion engine is the ability of course to control combustion and at the same time being able to ignite that cylinder as close to top dead center as possible. So in order to ignite that fuel as just coming up on its compression stroke ready for combustion you going to have to allow this thing to have proper air intake and proper air exhaust proper fuel delivery. That's the song of develops Heat through compression the closer it gets to top dead center the more chance of pre-igniting that fuel before the desired time. That's how we get into the octane of the fuel the higher the octane of the fuel the more resistance the fuel is to pre-ignite due to heat through compression. Things like two step colder spark plugs high octane fuel 100 octane let's say.. somehow the ability to cool the fuel or cool the air which comes into the cylinder. I know with superchargers you would use an intercooler because the supercharger does compress the incoming air which creates friction and the air is heated. And then you get into the situation where the cooling water for the intercooler is limited by the ambient temperature the temperature outside. So you would want to artificially be able to have the ability to maintain a specific temperature of the cooling water maintaining a specific temperature of the incoming compressed air. Needless to say the best option on your scooter would be to somehow cool the fuel. I'm used to cars mustangs whatever but the thing is how do I advance the timing if I so choose to do so on my stock hunger ruckus. Apparently these ignition modules or whatever are predisposed no two cars are the same so if I'm going to essentially Dyno my Honda ruckus I'm going to need the ability to make subtle adjustments that will not be the same as the same subtle adjustments that would be made on yours. I can guarantee you if there was some way to put a supercharger on a Honda ruckus fuel injection proper exhaust and a few other things you should be able to nearly double the horsepower. I don't know what the loss of horsepower is due to the drivetrain I know like on a mustang 4.6 V8 you're going to lose 15%, so whatever it is at the flywheel minus 15% is what you're putting down on the road. Now you can apply these methods of supercharger and fuel injection and opening up your air intake opening up your exhaust and limit the engine. The reason why you would want to limit it is because you want to make the engine efficient with some speed gain power game but you don't want to overextend the internals of the engine and blow it up you're going for efficiency not maximum output. Personally if I could modestly increase the horsepower of the engine and modestly increase the output of the drivetrain my desire would be 55 miles per hour I should be able to also increase the fuel economy. And here's something for you. Internal combustion engine fuel it is not exactly efficient and your basic car you might get $2 worth of energy that cost you $5 and the rest is incinerated by your catalytic converter. Emission systems attempt to gather some of the unburned gases and report them back into the cylinders generally this is a dirty engine concept and as far as I'm concerned with affect the overall longevity of the engine. So venting crankcase gases to atmosphere ie.. through an oil can collecting the oil from the crankcase vapor and then to atmosphere because you don't want to make a mess. So now we ask yourself how do we increase the engines ability to burn the fuel more completely well that's what we've been doing the whole time by modifying the air intake the fuel delivery the engine exhaust and the advancement of timing. The next logical step would be the introduction of hydrogen in small amounts that will assist the engine in a more complete burning of fuel. Does anyone know of some handheld tuner that could be used on a ruckus to be able to adjust those variables and create a tuning program. Like I said the necessity is the fact that two engines are not exactly the same yes you can put appreciate tune flash it to the computer whatever change the chip whatever but that's not the right way to control combustion and it could lead you to disaster. Thanks a lot let me know. phogan48indy@gmail.com
I've done everything in this video aside from the CDI and my max speed so far has been 48.3mph (130lb rider). CDI will for sure be the next power mod I do since i'm bouncing off the rev limiter the whole time.
I am about the same weight and was wondering what gram sliders you have in. Anyway other way I can contact u with questions please it would help a lot.
Cesar, I don’t have any problems with your five choices. I just think that as long as you have someone to work with when you’re beginner like myself it is a lot easier to do. I am fortunate to have very close to burn out Bobby who works at the RUCK SHOP. in Zephyrhills FloridaAnd with that said hopefully he’ll help me out and get me going with the things that I want to do including going from a to head to valve head to a four valve head. Again thanks for your video your friend Rick in Tampa Bay Florida
Great video. Just installed the NCY CDI and Drive Face and Polini Variator. I’m running the lighter stock weights and I jumped up from 40 mph to almost 45.mim 165lbs and the rev limiter seems to only be hitting 8600. Rest of bike is stock, is that what I should expect?
Great video it helped me get the ideas for my 2015 Ruckus and I did some mods from the ruck shop and I got the 43 mph out of it so I still need to do the cdi to try to get that 50 mph its a fun little scooter my son helped me to do the mods on all my bikes so he can learn and do his own so he can have then to ride when he is older to ride on the roads.
I love having the kids help so they get more out of childhood than video games and RUclips videos. Also yeS let them learn how to and maybe even get interested in it
Awesome video man! 👍🏼 Very informative and opinionated. Thanks for taking the time to break down the specifics of each upgrade while keeping it simple and chill 🤙🏼
Good tips, im trying to get max mph out my GET without getting a CDI (not comfortable with revving past the limiter) at the moment im doing 45 on speedometer, probably 43 on gps) currently im running MNNTHBX Exhaust, Uni filter intake, re jetted to 38,85 with shimmed needle, and polini variator with 5.0 sliders, planning on getting 5.5 sliders and replacing belt to hopefully get me higher :)
that's a smart move if you ask me :) GET what you can get out of the GET and then do a CDI. Just make sure to get a tach because once I hit 10k rpm hitting 50mph and I got scared of valve float. Keep it up !
Small Engine Velocity yup already got a tach and i already hit the rev limiter, im just trying to lower my rpms to squeeze more mph thats why im stepping up half a gram, and yeah thats the reason why i dont think ill ever get a CDI im too afraid of getting valve float or blowing up the engine
Ive got no limiter with 16 thousand miles on it. I have hit 11,000 rpm. It doesnt care. Like at all. Done a 6 hour 200 mile group ride without a single issue. Trust me, the motor is indestructible.
First mod, two stroke conversation. What do you mean no engine swaps!!! Everyone has their favourite. Variator has to be one of the best, no matter the scooter
I mean with the best mods , I am excluding in my video motor swaps. Mods for a stock motor :) variator is top but a tach makes you tune without a blindfold. Not birdbox style
Hey, nice vid! instead of rejetting the carb, what's your thoughts on just swapping it out for the Keihin PE20 Carburetor ? I just picked up my first ruckus and I'm looking for make it a little faster as im here watching this now lol
@@dalegribble7760 Mine is a 2003. So i just cleaned the carb instead of replacing it and now the bike won't run. It starts up only when you have your finger jammed in the carb to choke it then it'll pump out whiteish/blue smoke and cut off
SOME HONDA GET50s HAVE A RESTRICTOR PLATE!!!!! I have a 09 metro- mine came with a factory restrictor plate between the cylinder head and the intake pipe. It’s a small tin piece that goes between them You may need to re jet the carb after removing it.
You also have to take in account altitude on carb dialing,I wonder if you can put a two stage clutch in thing if it is belt drive. We put one on a go kart from an old son machine with a Kohler 17 hp motor.
Hey Ceasar, I purchased a used Ruckus and it looks like the airbox has been deleted and an aftermarket Air filter, how do I know if the jetting has been upgraded or tuned? Love the videos and thanks for your contribution!
I just had a quick question on Jets... I was curious what jets you recommend running? I have a 2020 Honda ruckus and the only mods I’ve done is a and NCY-CDI box, and NCY coil, NGK iridium splug, 5.5 sliders and a trail tack. I live at 5200 feet and about 160 pounds. I want to put a high flowing air filter(a K & N) in my stock airbox but when I do it seems to flow too much air and ran to lean. Also after installing the NCY-CDI box and coil I thought it would help it run not so rich here in Denver, but not really. So if I run the stock air cleaner it runs slightly rich and if I run the aftermarket air cleaner(K&N) it runs to lean so I’m curious what jets you recommend?
Small Engine Velocity Thank you so much for all your input I thought it would be fun to share my results… -Jetting Facts- At 65° to 70° at 5200 feet elevation with 35/75 jets(stock jet sizes) and the stock airbox and stock air cleaner it runs-too Rich(Fully Stock) but runs fine at sea level. At 65° to 70° at 5200 feet elevation with 35/75 jets and the stock airbox and K&N high flow air cleaner it runs-too Lean At 65° to 70° at 5200 feet elevation with 38/78 jets and the stock airbox and K&N high flow air cleaner it runs-Way too Rich At 65° to 70° at 5200 feet elevation with 35/78 jets and the stock airbox and K&N high flow air cleaner it runs-Runs Best👌🏽 At 65° to 70° at 5200 feet elevation with 35/77 jets and the stock airbox and K&N high flow air cleaner it runs-to lean
I enjoyed your video, but answer me this, please....The 5 mods you stated, what is the cost of all the parts to do them? And now you are getting up to 50 mph or a little better? Why not just buy the next up the line Honda..the Grom?
Great question and here is MY reasons. To start I do own a Grom Clone so I do use it when I ride around with my squad. I did spend around 400-500 in parts to get to 45-50 but for me it was the challenge. Also the ride of the ruckus is much different and more comfortable for me in a commute situation. I ware slacks and dress shoes to work and sitting in a chair like bike works it better. I am fortunate to have both types of small bikes but because I got this ruckus on a great deal. I’m glad you enjoyed it :) let me know if there are more kinds of videos you would like to see.
I’ve done 55mph on my get drafting flat I run about 48-50. Regular stuff as everyone else intake exhaust rejet variator with rollers also have decompression tube but with this set up I blew my clutch(recently)hit me hard was bruised for a month now with stock clutch went down to 45
I’m a noob and gonna be buying a ruckus possibly by December of this year possibly November of this year. What do you recommend I start doing like should I buy a motor right away or just buy parts to delete some cosmetic parts ?.
John Mark Burnt Rice nah the Honda Super Cub is just a new motorcycle/moped Honda is releasing next year. It's a remake from the most popular bike ever made and for good reason. They're unstoppable. Check out "c90 adventures" RUclips channel and you'll know what I mean...Ruckus is great, I have one, but they are slow. These mods will cost you. And you'll still be going 30 uphill Invest in something a lil faster like the Super Cub if 50-65mph is your goal. Cheers.
Safari as of now I’m just interested in getting a ruckus then maybe slowly upgrade to make faster . More of the change the looks first then upgrade after lol thnx for the help
@Chris B Dude if he's a noob there is no way he has an endorsement. Plus for 1100 alone you can buy a 250cc motorcycle that will smoke the shit out of your $5,000 scooter. Speed on a scooter makes no sense, plus you just replaced one of the most reliable engines with Chinese piece of garbage. Let the man get a Ruckus or Scooter to learn how to ride, but save that upgrade money for a real bike.
If you remove the airbox and 6” runner and filter or stack would work best. I would jet up to 78 form the stock 75. I bet it was airflow. Ive seen horrible results the way you did it.
I have a 2017 ruckus once I get to about 38 miles an hour is that the rev limiter that kicks in that makes the engine kick out and hesitate and how do I get rid of that because I know it feels like it wants to go faster than that without hurting the motor
Hi.. I have all the above but I'm only getting 41mph max.. I had the 80 main jet but I switched it back to stock bc it wouldn't go past 35mph with the 80 main jet. Is there something wrong?
If I were to get one it would be an older one around 2008-2010 for the price. Would you put in a new motor even if it has only a few thousand miles on it and still runs well? If you were to do a Gy6 Swap for a 49cc motor would it be able to give more power as well from the stock?
Brandon Ashby if your going to swap to a gy6 I couldn’t imagine spending that time and money to stay 49cc especially if the stock engine runs good. My ruckus as 31,xxx.x miles on it and still runs fine. All stock
I need help.. My ruckus change filter but it losing power at high speed rpm.. 9500 to. 8000. And its losing power too.. what CAN I do now? ㅠㅠplease help me
I weight 195lbs on good days do you recommend a polini variator with 5.5g or something else? I heard a lot of people saying that depending on the weight of the rider it could be good or not.
The carburator of my ruckus has the hole that goes the lenght of the idle jet plugged, is it suppossed to be plugged? The other holes on the sides are clear. Anyone know if that center hole is supposed to be plugged or open? Anyone know? Thank you
Anyone heard of something called “the general” that most mopeds have apparently and if you take it off it can add about 10mph? A friend was telling me about it but I can’t find any info on it.
culcune the metro and the ruckus are almost the same thing. They both use the same GET engine so for the most part what’s in here will work on the metro. Not 100% sure about the CDI though...
I was just curious because I work at a restaurant as a side job on the weekends in downtown L.A., and I ride either a Metro or a SMax for deliveries. The Metro gets between traffic due to its size, but that is all it is good for...otherwise it tops out at an indicated 32 mph. I was not too comfortable riding the SMax around and through L.A., but have been riding that more and more because it gets the job done much quicker. Unfortunately, I have no say so over touching either scooter's engine, but I was curious as to the engine in each bike because as far as carrying insulated bags on the floorboard making deliveries, it appears the Ruckus has more floor space. I have been trying to convince them to buy a TGB Express because of the enormous box, but it falls on deaf ears...
Honda mechanic at the dealer will probably not know unless they are ruckus tuners. Loud exhaust is a preference in my opinion and I don’t think represents kid or ghetto. Harley guys would disagree :)
Grey area there. Plenty of people in Florida riding ruckus with 50cc registration but have a 150cc motor. In Texas everything no matter the CC is a motorcycle accept a tiny list of specific vehicles that’s a moped. I’d check your local area for 49cc needing an endorsement or even a registration.
@@SmallEngineVelocity 50ccs is the only one over here in Florida that doesn't require an endorsement. Just hoping to make a ruckus a little bit quicker to get to and from work and even some food deliveries here and there. Cause I do not wanna be going 37 mph on the roads here. The drivers are crazy and the speed limit is 50.
Want to go lot faster while keeping appearance of Ruckus? Get Hunter bike from australia. Why not send petition to revive 250cc big ruckus or may be ask for 600 cc ruckus, eh!

What brand of mirrors do you have on your Ruckus? I like the ones in your video. Any info would be great!!
Thank you for making this great video keep up the good work and stay safe
Actually #1 should be check your tire pressure.
Air up to the max pressure on the sidewall.
100% true
Just copped a Ruckus, any of these old parts ya have that you don't need?
remember the faster the motor runs the quicker it will wear out mine is all stock 4000 miles runs perfect
Agreed , I have a second motor will build and swap - and again later :)
Yes mother
Hey, nice vid! instead of rejetting the carb, what's your thoughts on just swapping it out for the Keihin PE20 Carburetor ? I just picked up my first ruckus and I'm looking for make it a little faster as im here watching this now lol
Jay A What year did you get?
@@dalegribble7760 Mine is a 2003. So i just cleaned the carb instead of replacing it and now the bike won't run. It starts up only when you have your finger jammed in the carb to choke it then it'll pump out whiteish/blue smoke and cut off
SOME HONDA GET50s HAVE A RESTRICTOR PLATE!!!!!
I have a 09 metro- mine came with a factory restrictor plate between the cylinder head and the intake pipe. It’s a small tin piece that goes between them
You may need to re jet the carb after removing it.
i gained 10-15 mph just with the polini variator and new belt, its hella worth it
Did you use the 5.6g rollers or the bigger ones ? I agree totally
@@SmallEngineVelocity im not 100 percent shure but i thinks its the 5.6 ones. ill have to some more tweaking soon, ill let u know
Try some 5g sliders if you can
@@SmallEngineVelocity thanks for the advice :)
What belt do you recommend?
You also have to take in account altitude on carb dialing,I wonder if you can put a two stage clutch in thing if it is belt drive.
We put one on a go kart from an old son machine with a Kohler 17 hp motor.
It has a cvt, no clutch.
Hey Ceasar, I purchased a used Ruckus and it looks like the airbox has been deleted and an aftermarket Air filter, how do I know if the jetting has been upgraded or tuned? Love the videos and thanks for your contribution!
How about iridium spark ⚡️ plug upgrade
i have the cdi and variator done. to be honest i think i got a lot more out ofthe ruckus by shaving weight any where possible...
e denuccio in feel my varriator weights and my intake length tuning. I love doing stuff like this.
@@SmallEngineVelocity a
Do you have to beef up the brakes to meet stopping need of faster speed
Where can i find the pink spring that you are talking about, i think i need 3 i only saw one place selling them and they sell it in a pack of 2
Honda ruckus GET clutch only has 2 springs , two pads move out. I have them on my site but I am currently out
@@SmallEngineVelocity your talking about the stock 59cc right and omg your respons was so kwick
Don't plan on getting a cdi..but I never use the kill switch anyhow, always use the key
what kill switch?
How do you pick which jet size? Having trouble finding info on that. I’m also fat so heard I might need bigger than normal
What is a direct way of testing whether the ECU is toast? Obviously mine is not starting.
Up your stock 75 to a 78 and your slow to 38 that should fix the issue with the k&n
Small Engine Velocity Thanks for reaching out! Really appreciate it definitely going to give it a try really enjoy the videos.
Small Engine Velocity Thank you so much for all your input I thought it would be fun to share my results… -Jetting Facts-
At 65° to 70° at 5200 feet elevation with 35/75 jets(stock jet sizes) and the stock airbox and stock air cleaner it runs-too Rich(Fully Stock) but runs fine at sea level.

Old video yes, but you say pink springs .. what torque spring did you use if not stock. ???
dont bother, the ruckshop says it a pointless mod.
Do people still ride custom ruckus around? My friend said its not how it use to be 5 years ago
It’s for sure coming back or at least far as I can see
I cant do an aftermarket intake until i also re-jet my carb, correct?
I’ve done 55mph on my get drafting flat I run about 48-50.
Regular stuff as everyone else intake exhaust rejet variator with rollers also have decompression tube but with this set up I blew my clutch(recently)hit me hard was bruised for a month now with stock clutch went down to 45
Your clutch flew off and hit you ? Ouch!
Yup right in the old gluteus maximus

I’m a noob and gonna be buying a ruckus possibly by December of this year possibly November of this year. What do you recommend I start doing like should I buy a motor right away or just buy parts to delete some cosmetic parts ?.
John Mark Burnt Rice Check out the Honda Super Cub. Stock 125cc comes out in January.
Safari is that a website
I deleted the stock air box and couldn’t even get to 15mph. It just bogs. Didn’t think i would need to rejet with just that.
When you deleted the air box what now comes off your carb ?
@@SmallEngineVelocity I wanted to just experiment, and just took the filter and cover off the box. So I was running the stock hose open.
I’ve gone thru rollers and sliders and so far rollers got me faster results
I just don’t like flat spots after a while on my rollers.
That’s true I ran thru rollers like crazy
Pretty cool 😎
Thank you sir :)

Hi.. I have all the above but I'm only getting 41mph max.. I had the 80 main jet but I switched it back to stock bc it wouldn't go past 35mph with the 80 main jet. Is there something wrong?
What carb. Your running and link to it thanks
All stock
No worries I am going to build a GET ruckus with my current setup after the swap. I will need a reliable ruckus if I’m working on the GY6
I had a I pich metal on metal sound been kikin it for a year no smoke but died after I heard sound 1/2 mile later do u know what it could be?
Any idea why the killswitch raises the RPMs once a CDI box is installed? I’ve noticed at idle if I flip the switch it jumps up about 300 rpms
i noticed too lol
I need help..
My ruckus change filter but it losing power at high speed rpm.. 9500 to. 8000. And its losing power too.. what CAN I do now? ㅠㅠplease help me
Once your Ruckus can exceed 30 mi/hr it's no longer a moped, but a motorcycle subject to special licensing and insurance -- correct?
If i change the variator, do I need to change the clutch?
No , you can but no not at all on gy6 or GET or any scooter
I weight 195lbs on good days do you recommend a polini variator with 5.5g or something else? I heard a lot of people saying that depending on the weight of the rider it could be good or not.
you will have to try every bike performs differently, but theruckshop sujest 180/200 you start with 5.5's
Whats the ppr of the honda ruckus?
Gotta jump on that ruckus take us for a ride.
good words thaks for your help
The carburator of my ruckus has the hole that goes the lenght of the idle jet plugged, is it suppossed to be plugged? The other holes on the sides are clear.
Anyone know if that center hole is supposed to be plugged or open?
Anyone know?
Thank you
What kind of exhaust can I get that can be sort of quiet
Most aftermarket are louder but just a more deeper tone

Is there a place to shop online for parts ?!
I made my honda ruckus faster by selling it and buying a yamaha zuma 125 👍.
Definitely love the new zumas, they look bad azz

Without doing modifications or anything, just fill her up with aviation gas . 100% will go faster period.
Lol jp4 is closer to diesel than gas.

What type of fmf are you running on the ruckus?
You know I am unsure. It came with the Ruckus when i purchased it. Ill see if I can find markings on it
thank you! let me know!
Anyone heard of something called “the general” that most mopeds have apparently and if you take it off it can add about 10mph? A friend was telling me about it but I can’t find any info on it.
Governor?
Would you recommend taking the governor off the ruckus? If so can you make a vid
Ya nice tips but I'd say tach first. Imo
Ahh I agree! Later I released a video called the “ the very first mod any ruckus runner should do” and it was a tach.
What about 18grm roller!?!????
Is the engine the same as used in the Metro?
culcune the metro and the ruckus are almost the same thing.
I have been trying to convince them to buy a TGB Express because of the enormous box, but it falls on deaf ears...
depends what year Met you are talking about. Newer Mets (2014+) have a different motor and are fuel injected.
culcune sounds like it’s not the metro but maybe the metropolitan 2 which was speed limited from the factory to a slower speed 🤷🏼♂️
What kind of CDI.
will the mechanic at honda know this? like i am in garage fumblin stumblin these tips. muffler loud stuff screams "dopy kid" or ghetto.
Honda mechanic at the dealer will probably not know unless they are ruckus tuners. Loud exhaust is a preference in my opinion and I don’t think represents kid or ghetto. Harley guys would disagree :)
Can someone tell me would I need a Motorcycle endorsement if I do make the Ruckus faster or engine swap it?
I thought the heavier the sliders, the faster your ruckus will go
