If you want to avoid touching the front wire (which you should) you need to insert it from the front first, not the back.

I never had braces but had this for 5 years. Then the dentist died. Now my teeth are still crooked no major changes i'm 28. Thinking to get braces again

Retainers are for life, you have to wear them every single day. Braces are not a permanent solution I'd also advise you to not get braces at a dentist compared to a orthodontic because orthodontics actually studied a couple more years to get their title and know a little more.

One month late but I'm pretty sure they're both comfortable. I've never tried clear ones, but the Hawley retainer was kinda hard to get used to because I can easily get gag reflexes. I got used to it in like half an hour (it was a struggle, tho).
