Mercedes-Benz ML Headlight Removal and Facelift Upgrade (W163)

- This week we install the W163 facelift headlights on our 2000 ML320. We were needing a new headlamp housing for the war-torn driver’s side, and decided to go with a full upgrade to the updated design since the cost was just slightly more than a new driver’s side of the old style. The light output on these is far better, and we are absolutely ecstatic about how great this upgrade came out. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video.

Pin 1 two Brown
Pin 2 White
Pin 3 i have Grey wire here
Pin 4 Yellow wire
Please does anyone else have this configuration?? and how did you get around it?? Many thanks in advance
Hi, great video.
I’m curious, do the headlight either genuine or aftermarket for a 2002 face light onwards fit the 1999-2000 model?
These are genuine Hella lights, and they are the OEM for these lamps for Mercedes. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing. I threw out my old headlights before I saw this video. The new headlights kind-of work, but they are basically operating in a daytime running mode. Any ideas where I can get that connection that you used from the old headlight? I may have to go to a salvage yard, and recover part from wrecked donor.
I don't know of any place to get the pins that you need - I looked for quite a while online since I didn't want to cut and splice on brand new lights, but couldn't find anything. I would see about getting the parts from a donor like you mention. Thanks for watching!
Rookie move. Never ever throw out ur old parts
Hello, thanks for the video. Is the reason for the last wire move so that headlights get full power? I have read that people complain the facelifted headlights are not that bright when installed and I am wondering if it is because they did not move that wire to the upper right. Maybe they purchased the el-cheapo ones, LED I think.
Also link to the headlights is dead.
From what I understand from the limited schematics I've seen, that is essentially the case, allowing the headlights to go from "DRL" power to full power. What you mention is a stark possibility - these aren't the brightest lights in the world being halogens, but they're miles better than the original pre-facelift ones. Sorry about the link, with products going in and out of stock and being obsoleted and all over time, it's hard to keep up. Thanks for watching!
@@redonKiLaus hi ,great video helped me out immensely.i have one thought.what did you do about the headlight level motor wires.im trying to figure out how to attach them.Thanks.
@@KINGDOMSOONCOME144 I can't comment on headlight leveling motors since those would be for HID systems only, and I've no experience with them on these W163s. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I'm in the UK and have obtained a pair of Hella Zenon lights from a facelift parts car.
Pin 1 has two brown as you said
Pin 2 has the white as you describe
Pin 3 has a grey wire which you don't mention and this would prevent me from moving the white wire one over
Pin 4 has the yellow wire as described
Soooo I'm wondering what the grey wire is for??
I really liked your clear concise video but maybe I need to find one for Euro set-up. If you could help that would be excellent, thanks
What about the black wire for the fog lights on the oem headlights? What do you do with that wire?
Unsure, since this was a no-foglight ML. Sorry about that, but thanks for watching!
What about the fog light? In this shape ML the fog lights are in the headlights and not in the bumper so will they turn on or is that feature removed due to the headlight being for the newer facelift models
Good question, as I thought most of the pre-facelift ones had them in the bumper and don't remember them being in my particular one either. I don't know, forums may have the answer though. Thanks for watching!
So when you do this, will the high beam also work too?
It works perfectly! Thanks for watching!
@@redonKiLaus Basically without re pining it, only the daytime running lamps and signals will work? I’m finally getting around to replacing my headlights that’s basically what’s happening. I’ll re pin it this weekend and hope all goes well.
@@brandonw33zfy1184 Precisely, that's how it'll work until re-pinned. Thanks for watching!
Is the light to the outside the low beam
It's the one with the projector, not the reflector. Thanks for watching!
Is the high been and low beam LED or halogen?
Both are halogen. Thanks for watching!
