- How to perform Hybrid Migration Step by Step? Today more than 80% of Organizations adopt Hybrid Migration to move their On-Premise Mailboxes to Office 365. In this video, I have explained step by step procedure to perform Hybrid Migration. It's one of the most flexible migration Process, gives best co-existence and most seamless on-boarding user experience. With all this flexibility, a few wrong choices in the planning & deployment phase could cause delayed migration, or chances of failure.

Hence I recommend you to watch this video completely before performing Hybrid Migration.
Steps In brief to perform:-
a) Run IDFix tool to check whether all user attributes are correct.
b) Run HCW
c) Enable MRS Proxy if not enabled.
d) Choose Hybrid Migration and follow the steps in the video.
After watching the video, I hope you would have got an idea on how to perform Hybrid Migration in Office 365. If you face any issues while migrating using Hybrid Migration, state the error or issue below. I will try to revert with the best possible resolution asap.

Hi mate, log on to exch server & navigate to this location: UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Exchange Hybrid Configuration. There'l be a logfile containing the entire hcw stepup steps including low-level information & whats being config'd "in the background" during setup. Fyi: be sure to run IDFix on upn's (within migration scope) as well as install any CU's prior to running hcw

You would have explained a little about internal relay and why the send connector was in organization configuration where the inbound connector was created by hcw under server configuration.
Imran bro, we select Internal Relay when we have another exchange server in our infra and an incoming mail is for the user's mailbox present on another exchange server may be in our infra or outside it. HCW Creates Send connector so that all emails for migrated cloud users will use this connector to send emails.
@@AKGInfotech so the HCW automatically creates the entries in the Receive Connector (On-Prem) and Connectors (cloud) for the mail flow to work properly?

However your were too fast. Only engineer like me who is O365 L2 engineer will understand. The fast forward backward feature RUclips removed, so others would face problem.

SO mx records do not need to be pointed to o365 while using the hybrid method?
No, when you have Hybrid Configuration Wizard Run, then your On-Premise Exchange Server and Office 365 Exchange Online becomes one seamless environment. Its recommended to point MX at On-Premise Exchange Server until you completely migrate all mailboxes. Generally if you don't have any filtration service, companies tend to move MX to O365 soon after running HCW to filter all Incoming Emails.

if we transfer the mailbox from on-premise to office 365 exchange my calendar(meeting, reminder) all will also move or i need to transfer separately and how?
If you transfer it using Hybrid (Remote Move Migration), it will copy all Calendar Appointments, Meetings along with the mailbox. There is no need to separately export or import meetings manually in Remote Move Migration.

Thank you Ajey. Is this procedure possible with SBS2011? Is Azure AD Connect configuration a pre-requisite to running the HCW?
Azure Ad is not a prerequisite for Hybrid, if you have manully added users with exactly same attributes as present at on prem to cloud which seems lot of manual intervention, hence we use azure aad connect to sync objects from on-prem to cloud first. Once all objects are synced, then we run HCW and then we perform migration of mailboxes from on prem to cloud. ok all is working in this hybrid environment. But when I migrated 2 test users and tried to open their outlook on terminal servers it now says unable to open outlook. It was working after i uninstall outlook 2016 and installed o365 on terminal servers. But after i migrated test user to o365 it now can not open up outlook.
As you have changed the domain from Authoritative to internal Relay, shouldnt be the first thing in place before we migrate? i mean can we do that before we migrate the users? or in-case if the users are unable to receive email then only we can change the domain type?

If I have AAD Connect server, do I still need to run the AD sync command ?
No, you don't need to run azure ad sync command if you have patience and can wait till 30 minutes which is by default time of Azure Ad Connect to sync changes to local active directory. If u want immediately sync soon after you edit, create or delete an object in AD, run force sync command "Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Delta"

I am sorry for the delay in response. If you are using Portal.office.com to migration, it's highly recommended to spend half to 1 hour first to upgrade to Sp3 first and then perform hybrid migration. However, if you are using 3rd party tools e.g., migration wiz, then it's not required to update to Sp3 before migration. I hope I have cleared your doubt. Do subscribe for more technical videos.
in the minute 4:40 when click on "Migrate to Exchange Online" at this time, you are in the Exchange On Premises admin center or in the Exchange Online admin center?
It is exchange online. migration from on prem to cloud is mostly done from exchange online.

very useful indeed , i have a question ... we have 2 Exchange (Online & onPrem)and we are not looking to migrate right now , we would like to benefit from EOP for our on-prem Exchange ... should we configure it as standalone ?
Configure your on prem with hybrid configuration wizard. Then run azure ad connect to sync all users to cloud who have mailboxes at onprem. Once they become mail users in cloud (eac - recipients - contacts), now if you move your mx to o365, you can get filtering email benefits of eop and all your on prem users should also receive emails. If you face any issues, try changing domain to internal relay in cloud.

It depends upon you whether you want to manage user objects in office 365 or in Local AD (on premises). If you want to manage everything from local AD, install Azure ad connect and sync the objects to office 365.

I have followed the process...after configuring the HCW and syncing the users with mailboxes using ad connect but it is not showing those users for migration in exchange online..I don’t know why..can you please help me on this problem.
It can take time after sync. You need to check in the metaverse of aad connect.

You need to ensure your EWS External URL of On-Premise should work fine and no firewall should be in place, and ports 80, 443 and 25 should be open. Try Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer Autodiscover test as well, and on-prem should (I am not saying its must) not have Load Balancer in between. Creation of Endpoints will not cause any issues. It won't sync after user mailbox migration completed. If mx pointed twrds on prem then using target address attribute the email will be forwarded to cloud migrated mailbox.

@@joeprick3045 check mxtoolbox and type your domain name, you will come to know where the mx is pointed. Its not that all incoming emails will be routed to cloud if mx pointed towards onprem. when mailbox is migrated, target address attribute gets stamped which tells that mailbox is migrated to cloud, and then mails get into cloud mailbox. Most probably if there was onprem, mx was pointed towards onprem.
