I have a feeling the solution you come up with will be better than what the manufacturer provides and they will probably adapt to what you did to solve the problem.
When Andy doesn’t follow directions it still needs work… when Andy does follow directions it still needs work yet again, But that’s the 3rd F of FFF. Watching anything FFF is the most relaxing part of my day.
It just seems there's 1000 different things to break or go wrong with these fancy planters. I don't know how you always solider Andy but my hat goes off to you.
I tore all my 2x2 openers off, threw the useless seed firmers in the trash can and just piss it behind the notched closing wheels with the tt300's wich is just a fancy name for a piece of stainless steel tubing. Some of it runs down the dimples made by the closing wheels. Really works nice I think. Cheap and simple are my 2 favorite words😆
@@tebfarms939 Dribbled in a narrow band volitization would be minuscule. Not to mention I add ATS wich cuts volitization in half and UAN is roughly 40% urea wich is the only portion subject to volitization. Some guys use drag chains wich helps cover some of it up.
We used Totally Tubular in furrow system on an ExactaMerge planter. Dumps fertilizer before the brush and no seed firmers. The brush will literally throw the seed in the bottom of the trench.
I don't know anything about farming! Obviously, you're definitely trying the best you can to make it all work, and I'm sure you will! Good luck with your farming season!👍✌️🇺🇸
I really enjoy all your videos! I hope we get more.. more consistent.. especially during the seeding time and first cuttin. I understand though.. only so much time in a day. We appreciate you and your family and operation! Thanks
The Company dropped the ball….they should’ve sent an engineer to look at and help you fix the issues. It sounds like they didn’t field test the setup enough to weed out real time problems.
Id be so pissed off. Spend all that money and have to deal with all that plus sounds like not good service after the fact. Id be blessing them out every day till they got it straight.
I don’t know how you do it Andy. You seem to be always fixing things that should never need fixing. As a kid I worked on a farm. Two row planter that still had the steel seat from when it was pulled by horses. Hooked up to the back of a JD B. A few minor adjustments and ran perfectly year after year. Technology is great when it works.
They should have sent a field rep for support. Someone dropped the ball. I hope things get better. I can tell you're disappointed with Schaeffer, no tech support. They suck!!
It’s really bad handy when you can’t get tech-support of a company that makes a product to stand behind it and know what to do with it. You would think before they ever send it out to the customer that it would be field tested for any kind of flaws that it may have at least simple things like this they might not be able to catch everything but they could catch a lot of things. This is sad that is wasting your time in efforts to try to figure it out for them when you need to be planting.
I had a Pop up fertilizer on my old planter, after trials... new (to me) planter that had that Shaffer on it. I ripped it out and put it in the garage.
Customer service in the ag world seems to be a thing of the past. I thought it was just down here in OK where farming is marginal at best, but it seems to be a national work ethic problem not just regional.
These people should have an engineer out and sorted this. They might offer you a job as their Head of Sales Prevention. If this was my product, I wouldn’t want you advertising for me! Good luck Andy, I’m sure you’ll fix this debacle. Your Grandfather will be laughing at this.
Have you tried the Thompson Wheel closers? Just spitballing, you know what works best for you. I have seen them work, but we have heavy clay in my area. Needham makes some different depth wheels, too. And when they asked YOU if you backed up the planter, I think they are trying a CYA stunt. Great video and info!
With the seed belts being timed to the ground speed to give a "dead drop" there should be very little seed bounce, probably be fine without seed firmers. We dont use them on JD high speed planter.
Wow. Very frustrating for sure. At some point do you just say there is so much extra "stuff" installed on this planter that something is bound to go wrong?
Jethro Tull must be spinning in his grave !!! He sussed this out in the year 1701. Still, these smart-arsed graduates always know better. Not an ounce of common sense between them. At least it isn't a 24 row unit. (No wonder you resorted to a nicotine stick the other day)
Sorry Andy for what you have in money on that system i would be losing my shit on them people. Never fails once they get your money they forget who you are. And hopefully Schaffer sees this y’all need to get better engineers
Is there any way to mount a Gopro to watch that area as your planting to get a better idea of what the interference is causing the arm to get bent. I don't know if you could magnet mount one to the closing wheel bracket looking right at the applicator ??? I'm not a farmer so .... but the idea popped into my head and I wanted to share :)
Don't drag or mess with the seed after you paid big bucks to precision belt deliver the seed in its place/trench..simple. These add on junkies are delusional at times.
Seed firmer's are a joke in my opinion, they drag and move half the seed that you are trying to place exactly. I threw mine away after fighting them to apply fertilizer after about two years. I now run Totally Tubular application tubs, they are stainless tubs and applies the fertilizer directly under the seed!
Hey Andy get with Nathan Baker of Border View farms. He's got what you are talking about. Pretty sharp guy and dam smart. Maybe he could help you out. GOOD LUCK !!!!
As always, the help you need when you need it is not available. It's like the local garage has 23 1/2 hr. Towing on the door of their tow trucks! Hope you get back to planting soon.
Not fun, I have had very good service from L&D AG in Hartland Minnesota, they kind of specialize in setting planters up with fertilizer, I switched to the totally tubular design , they gave a lot less problems than seed firmers, maybe rocks or root balls bending your seed firmers? Just my two cents worth, Thanks for the videos
I am beginning to think my 1760 finger planter is the way to go and not do the precision change over I have. By showing it on the old you tube, I bet you get some phone calls to help fix it from the company.
Looks to me like a bad design. I would have thought a seed firmer would be a wheel design of some sort so that it rolls and presses the seed into the seed furrow rather than a prong being dragged which would rake the seed and soil. Maybe that is why the brackets have bent, the wrong design maybe? Must be very frustrating that problem young man because its not cheap equipment and it costs in time too.
Hundred and sum acres? New equipment? And your having to do repairs and the company who sold you the planter? Aint returning your call in a timely fashion? Boy your really a clam person! With this happening to my Dad.. His foot would have been some where the sun wasn't shining.. And they wouldn't have to worry about answering a phone call.
The schaeffer company will blame it on you planting to fast in your video from a couple of days ago, the planter looks very complicated, far better keeping things standard from the factory for an easy life. good luck anyway
Unbelievable that a company would put out a product that works so poorly and costs that much money.
Should have named the video pissin in the wind !
Andy I think somebody at Schaeffer dropped the ball on that system for the new planter 👍🚜
I have a feeling the solution you come up with will be better than what the manufacturer provides and they will probably adapt to what you did to solve the problem.
Sorry for your troubles Andy!! Hope these people help you out!!! Not just take your money and run!!!😡😡

Another good one Andy 🐄🚜🇺🇲👍

Did same thing with my exactemerge
Don’t you lose fertlizer through volatility or is it not that bad

@@mrbill4187 what kind of rates are you applying that way? Also can it be ran through a squeeze pump?
It is unfortunate that during seeding season that you can’t get proper technical support 7 days a week
Surprising he didn't have to call India too lol
6 days would be nice. Maybe they blocked his number...
Great video Andy been watching for years keep them coming.
Headache after Headache after Headache and you always keep smiling Andy 👍👏😎
He’s got incredible patience and a great attitude. I don’t know how he keeps his cool sometimes…

can you call caz and talk to their planter set up guys and see what they have to say maybe
I really enjoy all your videos! I hope we get more.. more consistent.. especially during the seeding time and first cuttin. I understand though.. only so much time in a day.

Thanks
Andy when they don't answer the phone use another 😊cellphone lol sometimes that works thank Andy 😅😊
Call Sales Dept. They will answer !!!
We use the Keeton seed firmer on our planter. They might have something to bolt on in there.
Brand new equipment. Thats gotta suck
Well, you know what you have, you don't know what you get.
Awesome video thanks Andy for your time and consideration top job top team regards from England 🇬🇧🇺🇲
Andy, never give up!
Misery loves company
Not good problems already.
Thanks for talking us along for the fix.
Great content on what problems arise running a dairy farm/large dairy farm. 👍
That company is probably using cheap steel
But you're right.
That's what I think also. They are likely using standard A36 mild steel. It should be alloy steel so it would be more resistant to bending.
Enjoyed your video Andy have a good day thankyou.
That has to be frustrating spending probably a ton of money and all that work on the planter only to have it malfunction right when you need it.
Another very interesting video 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Howdy to ya in New York
I said it before, forget it ,you put the good stuff on . Manure.
I'm like you, can't stand piss pore customer service, an can't stand stuff that doesn't work, it's expensive an it should work, thanks for sharing
Another great video! I am always so impressed with your ability to fabricate solutions, great job Andy.
i went with keatons on my h- speed planter with no problems.
You need to change your channel name to Farming, Fixing, Fabricating and Engineering.
Good luck. Hope it all works out for you.

That all messed up. Just dang. Glad you caught it.
Gotta be frustrating when you spend bookoo bucks and the company shrugs their shoulders when you ask for answers.
They should have sent a field rep for support. Someone dropped the ball. I hope things get better. I can tell you're disappointed with Schaeffer, no tech support. They suck!!
I get the feeling that Shaffer haven't kept ahead of the new planter designs, and just hoped the existing kit would fit new models.

I sure do admire your patience Andy. If anyone can figure it out you’ll be the one. Keep up the great fight 🙏🙏
Customer service in the ag world seems to be a thing of the past. I thought it was just down here in OK where farming is marginal at best, but it seems to be a national work ethic problem not just regional.
All depends on the company. Either OEM or aftermarket, it's the customer service that matters.

Hello Andy! I admire your calmfulness in stresfull situations...
How do you manage that?
Thumbs up on this one! One thing after another huh!
Buy a red planter you don't need those firmers
Hello!
Other planter is it protected by the discs and on this one stones are falling in behind the opener discs and bending the brackets???
With the seed belts being timed to the ground speed to give a "dead drop" there should be very little seed bounce, probably be fine without seed firmers. We dont use them on JD high speed planter.

They don't make em like they used to.Sad.🙁
😀🚜👍
Typical engineering doesn't work like designed to
Would you say most of the breakdowns your equipment has is from, normal wear, lack of routine maintenance, abuse or poorly designed by the company ?

Good luck Andy looks like you get to be the test dummy for Schaffer on that series planter
Better quality steel that wont bend or heavier brackets with shorter seed firmers.
Keatons have a better option for you? We've had great luck with keatons

No Green paint might mean no Good.
Sounds like a good company to stay away from thanks
That company needs to buy u a couple of cases of beer n refund ur money or pay u for ur time redoing there work !!!
What a bummer u pay all that money for a fancy new planter and that ends up happening 😐
That’s not the problem of the planter
Looks like formers are to far out O the planter they close to packing wheels
I am beginning to think my 1760 finger planter is the way to go and not do the precision change over I have. By showing it on the old you tube, I bet you get some phone calls to help fix it from the company.
Did the company offer to come out and look at what is going on? If nor that sad .
Should have a kinzee planter
fun times
gotta change the angle of the dangle
I would be pissed to i will say you hold it in better than i would i would have some very choice words for that company !!!!!!!

I am no expert . It appears corn planters are a pain in the rear end. Olgoat. You would think someone could make good corn planter.
If they were to be on the planter they would have come on it and your running two different planters to
It is sad, the money you spend on that set up and it doesn't work right... obviously, they didn't test "R&D" that set up on that model planter..

ANDY, You know if you'd been working on farm equipment a little longer and had a little more experience, you might understand the directions better!
Is that dragging messing up your precision…why would it not at times and condition’s. 👀
Look at your new junk you bought
Exactemerge and seed firmers equal problems everytime. Ditch those and dribble it in the trench and you will be fine
Look into Flo rite infurrow seed firmers I'd send photo but not sure how
ƨʜiɈ happens Andy. Sad about the non-help from the US manufacturer.
