I'm Iranian, and my dad's friends were all wrestlers. They were all in the same circle with the Sheik. He was a great "real" wrestler. But Iran is such a powerhouse in wrestling, and produce so many strong wrestlers, the sheik did not make it past Olympic trials, contrary to his claims. But I guess it may have been a part of his schtik. He was very very appreciative of the opportunities America had given him and was extremely Pro-American! I mean who with the name Hussein has a cross on their gravesign.

Great post. The Sheik was a true legend of wrestling. He was a key player in the 80’s when the WWF exploded in popularity. He sure had an amazing life. The stories about him and his adventures are the stuff of legend. The documentary is a must watch. Thanks for all the great memories Sheik. RIP

I even saw the A&E biographical version show on the Iron Sheik where he was once a Bodyguard to the Shah of Iran 🇮🇷. His daughter was a murder victim where a jealously possessive boyfriend killed her and now he has been sentenced away to life imprisonment.
He even said on a Howard Stern Radio show interview that he wished he could go back to Iran 🇮🇷 to visit family still there but that would not be a good idea as the way Iran is now he could be in jail there for the rest of his life. He was here in this country when the Iranian revolution happened in 1979 and American Hostages were taken and held there for over a year and were released when Ronald Reagan was sworn in as President.
