I have been charmed by the kindness of all the Vietnamese we’ve met since arriving in Hanoi a couple weeks ago. We’re now in Da Nang, and as we walk about the city, buy groceries, have our coffee, and take in the sights, we’ve been met with nothing but smiles. Little kids, old ladies, men drinking coffee, all grin at us and say, “Hello!” Once, while we were checking out a house for rent, a neighbor man stood outside his house and watched us intensely from 10 feet away. Every time I checked, he was still staring openly with a neutral expression. It was making me a little uncomfortable, but when we walked back outside, he had moved even closer, staring still, but with a pretty little grandbaby in his arms. He brought her to see the foreigners. When we admired the child with smiles and coos, he broke into smiles and “Hellos” himself. I have quickly come to love the gracious and friendly Vietnamese people.
My dad fought in Vietnam and he told me the war was pointless. He said the people were hard working and just wanted to be left alone and that the south Vietnamese government was highly corrupted and we shouldn’t have backed them. He only wished the best for Vietnam after the war, he never spoke badly of them. Anyone I’ve met from Vietnam has always been really nice too.
I’m a Filipino and quite a number of Vietnamese I met in the Philippines when asked about what they feel about America 🇺🇸 are always positive. I find the Vietnamese as gentle and kind. I think that their very nature as people with kind hearts led them not to grudge the past but willing to embrace the future. ❤

Good topic, the way I see it from my experience is the war is the past…the Vietnamese people are looking towards the future and see America as a friend now…😊

I’m from a city called Westminister California, but more commonly known as “Little Saigon” because it has the most Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam. What’s great about the area that I live in is how strong the Vietnamese culture lives on, with so many restaurants and Vietnamese mom and pop shops. Really loved your video and it’s so interesting to hear their opinions!

I'm married to a Vietnamese woman and have been many times since 1996 . I have never been met with animosity at any time . I'm a US Veteran ( not from that war ) and there was some anxiety at how I would be treated when I went the first time . I shouldn't have worried .
Just so it's known, the US loves Vietnam too! Probably the war every American regrets most was against this beautiful country. I'm glad that we are allies & I consider Vietnam one of America's most important allies in the current day. As an American who was born when the war ended in 1975,as a Veteran of Operation Freedom I too look and think of Vietnam as a Friend to the US people. Thank those also who assist the M.I.A foundation to help bring back those Americans who never made it back home.
Mexican Americans are amazing and a backbone of our culture. We have many strong cultures here but the Native/Indigenous and Mexican history should always be cherished and taught.

America and Veitnam as been freinds for the most part, even before the veitnam war we, fought the Japanese with eachother , and the main reason we went to war waa veitnam was because of France, and the thing i respect about veitnam the most is they became communsit mostly because they hated colonialism, and they where not really freinds with the Chinese or Soviets they where just using them to help gain their independence, they even fought the chinese after the US left. I have no idea how to answer the question of what our government should do in supporting the Ukraine in this war, and i tend to think of myself as an isolationist especially with everything that has happened in the last 20 years. But 4:55 does put some things in to perspective. There are those people around the world who have struggled under horrible oppression who even after a senseless war look to the US as a beacon of democracy. You can be right or left i dont care. Americans need to remember our ideals and continue to stand for that.

Europe too has a lot of problems probably the same in magnitude with the U.S. just different categories. Ex. (Economy category) U.S. Economy: Stable & strong growth (many companies thrive & go big & global drivers of innovation, biggest economy, biggest military, most influential, leaders in many fields etc. ) but plagued w/ inflation etc, Gun violence, social divide. & Lack of things like free healthcare. European Economy: Sluggish economic growth (trails behind the U.S. & China plus experiences brain drain & overall lack of global competitiveness in Innovation) but affords to still sustain basic public services for free(healthcare etc)

Yes, the us did nuke Japan. Also, we burned down over 60 other Japanese cities. The brits and us bombed and burned german cities to complete rubble as well. Having said that, I take issue with bringing up the nuke thing in ww2. Do think that japan or Germany would have not used the a bomb if they had it....London or maybe Moscow? actually the americans didnt start the vietnam war they just fought in it. the north vietnamese communist fought the democratic south vietnamese with the soviet backing the north and the US backing the south. its the same for north korea and south korea.
“Democratic South”!? They were horrible. The North Vietnamese and Vietcong were friendly to the US, after pushing out the French. They made a lot of comparisons to their war of independence and ours.

I’m from a city called Westminister California, but more commonly known as “Little Saigon” because it has the most Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam. What’s great about the area that I live in is how strong the Vietnamese culture lives on, with so many restaurants and Vietnamese mom and pop shops. Really loved your video and it’s so interesting to hear their opinions!

I'm married to a Vietnamese woman and have been many times since 1996 . I have never been met with animosity at any time . I'm a US Veteran ( not from that war ) and there was some anxiety at how I would be treated when I went the first time . I shouldn't have worried .
We love the Vietnam country and the people.
Lots of Vietnamese Americans grow up with us Mexicans here in the USA. And we have love for all three of our County's USA, Mexico, Vietnam.

Mexican Americans are amazing and a backbone of our culture. We have many strong cultures here but the Native/Indigenous and Mexican history should always be cherished and taught.

America and Veitnam as been freinds for the most part, even before the veitnam war we, fought the Japanese with eachother , and the main reason we went to war waa veitnam was because of France, and the thing i respect about veitnam the most is they became communsit mostly because they hated colonialism, and they where not really freinds with the Chinese or Soviets they where just using them to help gain their independence, they even fought the chinese after the US left. Such a stong badass nation its great to be allies with eachother again, it makes us both unstoppable.

I have no idea how to answer the question of what our government should do in supporting the Ukraine in this war, and i tend to think of myself as an isolationist especially with everything that has happened in the last 20 years. But 4:55 does put some things in to perspective. There are those people around the world who have struggled under horrible oppression who even after a senseless war look to the US as a beacon of democracy. You can be right or left i dont care. Americans need to remember our ideals and continue to stand for that.

Oh boy,how they were wrong about US being a strong country,it just acts strong and tough but they're shallow.There's a lot of problems with the US,they have probably more problems than Vietnam.This is a good example of how a lot of the media doesn't show the bad stuff of a country.I dont live in the US but as i live in Europe i know quite a lot more about the US than people from Vietnam.And this is in no way a hate comment toward the US,i was just pointing out how little they know about them,everything i pointed out about the US the same goes for a lot of EU countries,even my country where i live,so this is in no way a hate comment,just pointing out things
Europe too has a lot of problems probably the same in magnitude with the U.S. just different categories.

U.S. Economy: Stable & strong growth (many companies thrive & go big & global drivers of innovation, biggest economy, biggest military, most influential, leaders in many fields etc. ) but plagued w/ inflation etc, Gun violence, social divide. & Lack of things like free healthcare.
European Economy: Sluggish economic growth (trails behind the U.S. & China plus experiences brain drain & overall lack of global competitiveness in Innovation) but affords to still sustain basic public services for free(healthcare etc)

Yes, the us did nuke Japan. Also, we burned down over 60 other Japanese cities. The brits and us bombed and burned german cities to complete rubble as well. Having said that, I take issue with bringing up the nuke thing in ww2. Do think that japan or Germany would have not used the a bomb if they had it....London or maybe Moscow? If the USSR had the bomb would they have hesitated to use it on Germany?

actually the americans didnt start the vietnam war they just fought in it. the north vietnamese communist fought the democratic south vietnamese with the soviet backing the north and the US backing the south. its the same for north korea and south korea.

“Democratic South”!? They were horrible. The North Vietnamese and Vietcong were friendly to the US, after pushing out the French. They made a lot of comparisons to their war of independence and ours.
