This battle shows that when Lunar puts his creative ability with words into harder bars he can kill his opponent. The 'your sister's fanny' stuff can be entertaining. But with all that technical potential it'd be cool to see him use it and clash with some heavy battlers.

nathan grice That's a good question and pretty much the discussion I wanted to prompt. I'm pretty sure there are just different sets of rules for battles now that judging has been abolished, and it's the "tone" of the league/event that determines which set of rules and mentality applies to the battles. On one end, you have battles where pulling out a notebook causes the biggest controversy in modern day battling so far, and on the other you can pull out a phone and possibly salvage an entire round through what's essentially cheating while no one calls you out on it. I personally prefer battles where the performers are required to be 100% on top of their shit and choking automatically means you lost along with a few other generally accepted rules. Otherwise there's little to no tension if battlers are allowed to fuck up and cheat with zero repercussions and it basically feels like watching two dudes taking turns reciting slam poetry in front of a crowd. But as I said, leagues cater to different mentalities now and some battles are just sort of cheery performances for crowds that want to hear decent wordplay and good jokes.
Lunar victory was never even a question.. but O’Shea actually had some solid bars in this 🤣

Coming back to battle rap after Pat Stay's untimely death. Used to be a major head. Totally obsessed for years, went to events, knew all the lore. Upon reflection, Oshea was the funniest person in the scene and did the most for the game.

I fuck with Oshea and he is the main reason I got into DF back when, but fuck making excuses for him. Especially when he didn't perform poorly here, it's insulting. He was just outclassed - I'd say 3-0, though if Lunar choked and that was edited out as people are suggesting (and him checking his phone supports that), 2-1.
Also, regarding time limits, etc. Yes you should stick to them. Also, Lunar should have fucking FACED Oshea during that second round, that shit was embarrassing and disrespectful. But Oshea didn't have any punches to outshine Lunar's best in this battle and giving him another minute to spit wouldn't have changed that at all.
I didn't say he half-arsed it, or performed poorly, just that he prepared for a different battle. He was expecting comedy, Lunar was funny, yeah, but went in hard.

Watched the bootleg of this a month back - still incredible. Lunar C was good for jokes and multis but overrated as fuck. Now he's proved he's incredible by stepping up his game - really enjoyable. Oshea hilarious as always but wasn't at his best. But PLEASE realise Lunar C vs shotty horroh/soul/cee major etc would be shit. I remember watching this live... Lunar was shitting himself during Oshea's second because it was clear he had completely forgotten it. He had called one of his boys to the front so he could help him remember. He still chokeed at the beginning of the second round but it got edited out.
