  • From Season 10 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 3: Fly With Von Drake which originally aired on October 13th, 1963. Walt opens the show by commenting on our long interest in the subject of flight and outer space. An animated sequence shows how some of the more fanciful speculators imagined life on Mars. Then, the science of manned flight gets the unique Ludwig Von Drake treatment as the self-styled expert attempts to trace the history of aviation and explain how planes and balloons can fly.

In my opinion Disney is really missing the mark not streaming a lot of their best classic content. Movies like Merlin Jones should not have to be rented online to watch thru them.

@@darrellburnside9368 100% agree! There is a huge market for these films! Want to increase subs on Disney+? Put all the theatrically released films though 1986 on there.

Some of the scenes from this episode are used as the framing device for Disney’s sing along songs: you can fly.

A Paul Frees festival! He narrates the piece on Martian life, and he is of course the voice of Professor Ludwig von Drake.

Ironically, Paul Frees (the voice of Professor Ludwig Von Drake, as well as the Ghost Host of the Haunted Mansion) narrated the special "Mars and Beyond" (from which the segment of possible life on Mars is from).

I have always found it odd that they didn't use Von Drake's voice-over on the sequence Mars and Beyond sequence at the beginning Since this is a Von Drake episode it makes that sequence feel out of place compared to the rest of the episode. It could have been a direct sequel to how Inside Outer Space ended if they had done that to make Von Drake realize how wrong he was on no life on Mars he's constant denial as the aliens kidnap him. I know Paul Fress was in the Mars and Beyond episode as narrator but I still think he could have made him rerecord his lines in Von Drakes's voice.

Ludwig von Drake sounded like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Well he is from Vienna Austria. But Mr.Schwarzenegger does not provide his voice here. Instead Paul Frees provided the voice of Professor Von Drake. (May he rest in peace). Since 1987 however, Ludwig Von Drake has been voiced by Corey Burton who continues to voice the character to this very day 36 years later.

Austrians from Graz speak like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of course, not all of them speak similar to his.
