I thought he was going to turn over the wrong card, and then reveal the right card from the wood chipper pile. It could be done, and might make the trick more impressive.
what would be REALLY impressive, is if he'd chip the right card and then find all the pieces and with a magical movement, solve the puzzle of putting those pieces back together. so it would be actual pieces of the card, when put together, you can see the signature.
I know I am a bit late but for me what would be impressive if he after chipping the cards jumped inside the machine and gave the middle finger to everyone in the theater leaving them with horror, truma and nightmares
@@mathewlarrigan2723 He didnt feel around the top for most of them though and if he didnt look he couldnt of used it, as well as having a marked deck making it much easier
not only did he clearly get a good look at the decks before putting the blindfold on, but also none of the other decks are opened so you can feel the difference as well as see the stickers
Jonathan might return for the next season since it was only a scheduling conflict. Ross is good friends with Penn and Teller and regularly did hosting duties for them in England since the 80's, so I don't see them wanting to permanently replace him.
What makes this less than ideal trick for me is it's just one card. He can palm it off the deck as soon as he returns it. Looks like he probably didn't, but he could have. The signed card doesn't even have to go into any of the decks at all and it can reappear in the end when it needs to.
The other decks in the box were never touched or inspected, so he could easily make them different. If you remove half the cards in each deck, you should be able to feel the difference. After they are shredded you wont be able to tell at a glance if the deck was complete. Another way to do it would be to simply put the decks in a fridge to feel the temprature difference, or put a invisible marker on the decks, like small piece of adhesive film. And there are hundreds of ways to find a selected card in a deck. Its THE most used card trick. I have to admit that i don't know which specific trick he used, though.
The Flintstone's reference is very interesting. One of the great card magicians is Fred Kaps ("Fred Flinstone"). The "Yabadabadoo" is a code of one of his tricks, also known as "the Mixer" to keen learners of the art of Kaps. I love this show, and how Penn disguises his explanation to the aspiring magicians, who obviously read about the greatest of the classics to get to where they are today.
+multiinvisibleman i have no clue what effect you are talking about, but Yabadabadoo refers to something else. A technique. im curious about the Mixer trick though. cant find which one you are talking about
+multiinvisibleman He emphasized "stone" , kept repeating it. he was saying there was a weight in there like a rock or a stone that was placed in via slight of hand, as teller says "i believe it was a fresh deck" and something along the lines of slight of hand was used later on the deck, not stocked before he arrived. That is what i took from it as someone who knows nothing about the reference you talk about or magicians in genre. Am i off ? I thought the yabadabadoo was just a fun way of getting him to say he wasn't tricking them
BRILLIANT, HAVE ALWAYS LIKED YOUR TRICKS AND THE IDEAS BEHIND THEM MARKIS!! Always been a fan and active performer in MMA as well as Magic, super cool to see you do both bud!!
A sticky substance used in magic to invisibly mark objects or make them stick to places they wouldn't normally is called a "daub". So Flintstone saying Yabba DAUBA do" is Teller calling him out on the use of daub to mark the card and pack.
My original guess what that he felt the edges of the card boxes for the broken seal. Then felt the bottoms of the cards to the marker. But apparently he just marked the box and the card with some kind of sticky substance.
The Flintstones reference was a hidden message meaning he used a substance called ''Duab'', its a sticky substance so he can feel what card he chose in the deck, and which deck in the pile of decks, because they were covered with Duab.
As with any magic trick, the decks had to be marked or coated so that Mark would know which deck that card was in and again the card had to be coated so the feel of the card would be different from all the other cards.
Apparently no one (at least that I'm seeing) is getting what Penn is going on about. Fred Flintstone said "Yabba Dabba Doo". Penn is saying "Yauba Dauba Doo". Daub. Daub [dôb]VERB coat or smear (a surface) with a thick or sticky substance in a carelessly rough or liberal way: Bingo players refer to marking their bingo cards as "Daubing". He had a substance on his fingers that he used to mark the card. Notice his right hand, how he is holding his pinky awkwardly, away from the deck, himself, and his other fingers. He slides the pinky up and touches the signed card before he puts the deck back together. It's possible he marks the deck itself in the same way, but if you notice he squeezes (top and bottom) each deck as he's going through them. That box would feel different than all the rest. I believe that he had somehow modified the other decks to feel slightly different than the object deck. Notice they are never touched except by him. He mimes shaking the container, not reaching in and mixing the decks by hand. He pointedly tells Johnathan when he's shaking the container full of decks "...making sure not to drop anything" and when they are dumped on the table "...making sure nothing drops on the floor". He could also be feeling for the difference between an unaltered deck and the deck with the advertising cards and jokers taken out, but it would be more foolproof to have altered the decks in some way.
Mr. Daba is a magician, you can find him on youtube, he also sells tricks. Mr. Daba likes it when you break seals. :P I'm guessing that's what this is referring to.
Why can't he just feel for the open deck? The rest of them have stickers on them and are closed but that one is opened and then closed so the sticker would have been partly missing. Idk about the second part where he picks the right card but that's what I was thinking it was.
Remember when he took all the promo and jokers out? It made the deck a bit smaller so he could FEEL which deck it was. Then he probably memorized the sequence of the cards. Probably not right about how he found John's card, but im pretty sure about the first thing.
+Ben DeVries He was mentioning I forget the word I think it was dabba which is like a sticky substance that he put on the card so he would know which deck it is in and which card would it be.
+Nikola Maric I also could have been referencing a simpler thing, Ya a dab of glue. Penn believed the cards were not gimmick ed right away, but rather during the trick, he probably marked the Frist deck box with wax or some other substance with his thumb right as he took it out and then marked the card as Jonathan took the choice card from his hand with the same substance. From there, you literally feel for the trasnparent wax like marking and that makes it easy to find with your fingers, but near impossible to see with the camera or someones eyes.
Dabba is name for putting a sticky substance on card he had stuff on one of his fingers or something and he puts that stuff on card and on box so just has to feel the substance while blindfolded and knows he has the box and then same shit on card to know he has card
Jesus Christ. When he said "Yabba dabba do" he was saying "Yabba DAUBba do." "Daub" is a substance you can put on cards (Or in this case, on cards, and on a deck of cards) to mark them to the touch, but not to the eye. It was widely used by gambling cheats before magicians adopted it for magic routines.
I know nothing about magic but this seemed obvious. Little braille type ridges on the backs of the first deck, as Jonathan writes on his card he clearly spins the deck around in his hand, so that when Jon replaces his card, it is the only one with the ridge on the other end. Same thing with the boxes, they are all smooth but the box with his card in has a little braille type mark on it.
Correct me if I am wrong put recognizing by feeling one opened deck of cards compared to thirty or so others sealed ones, shoudn't be that difficult for a trickster.
It was how quickly he did it that makes that questionable.. he didn't stand there and feel all the seals, but rather scooped them up in bunches and shredded them. And if you look toward the end when he puts in the last pile of decks, there's on there that looks to have the seal broken.
its so simple at 2:50 when Johnathon puts his card back into the deck the magician just palms the card up his sleeve so now the magician has johnathans card up his sleeve. at 6:15 he then switches the random card he picked out of the deck with johnathans card that is up his sleeve.

+Austin Urch Doubt it was temperature.... I think they all were half decks apart from Johnathan's. Would be easy to distinguish then. No idea how he chose Johnathon's card though!
The target deck would be lighter and I would guess more importantly less rigid because between 7%-10% of the cards were discarded (jokers, ads and bridge score sheet) - so that's how you could get to the right deck by touch and feel. And from Penn's explanation I'd guess he must have put a substance on the actual card with the signature.
do you think he has a weighing machine installed in his hand?-_- dude, you can't feel the difference of weight due to 4 missing cards! he probably had a substance on the deck as well.
First time through, I stopped it at 7:35 and I think, a skin colored glue adhesive piece of tape, stuck to his thumb, very small even,. Like the size of an eraser head on a pencil, or smaller And the other side of that skin colored piece of tape, stuck to the inside of the one of his thumbs or fingers? Maybe... I would expect the other side of that tape to be blue with a small white line through it Similar to the color and pattern on the deck... . Now I know this is easy to look for if I watch the video again, but this was my first time through and I'm curious what Penn and Teller say
Okay, at 9 Minutes 8 Seconds... It seems like I was correct, he used a type of 'Dobber'... Style As he was describing the act and said that it was gimmicked later, and agreed to a dobb, or two... Then it could have been done the way I described, or something very similar method If he wasn't feeling the card so much, it wouldn't have given it away so much But he was technically just feeling the cards, which isn't a trick, one of them had to feel different Same with the boxes
he forced the 10 clubs on Ross - not much black pen signature shows on a card like that, forged it in every single deck, and placed it in a certain position in every deck. the chance that it was actually the shuffled deck was very little, so that is how I guess it was done (that was not a bottom deal) so he could've done it without textures, marking, peeking etc.
@@magicmark52 Huh seriously? Thats a helluvah nifty trick then, I saw you grabbing them by the ends so I figured you went the simple route, guess I got something to go nuts over for the next couple days to figure it out :D Excellent job I hope you're still performing strong.

+David Williams maybe not even half. Don't need to remove a huge amount of cards to tell the difference
shredding the decks was probably added for this in case p+t asked to inspect the remaining decks. that way he ends up clean
+Aaron Walderslade Nothing to do with the other decks mate
"MIGHTY MARK FEEL THE SEAMS!"
There’s starving Kids in Africa that could of eaten those cards
lol
Guy who made the trick was named daba
No. Penn is saying "Dauba". He "daubed" the card and the deck with something.
Guy Fawkes that is incorrect
i am evan
Go to my comment at the top. Read it. Tell me what part of that is wrong?
No. What +Guy Fawkes says is correct, he daubed the card (marked it with wax/similar).
evan, the heck did you get that info?
One deck missed the wood chipper. Is that part of the trick?
Huge get to truthcontest
That's made me mad watching those lovely decks destroying Infront of my eyes
Their is a weight that rattles in every deck except the original. He the forces the card into a certain spot in the deck.
Stupid
The card cutter was an everlasting gobstopper machine from ww.
The target deck would be lighter and I would guess more importantly less rigid because between 7%-10% of the cards were discarded (jokers, ads and bridge score sheet) - so that's how you could get to the right deck by touch and feel. And from Penn's explanation I'd guess he must have put a substance on the actual card with the signature.
do you think he has a weighing machine installed in his hand?-_-
dude, you can't feel the difference of weight due to 4 missing cards!
he probably had a substance on the deck as well.
My conjecture was that the boxed deck with 4 cards removed would be less rigid, i.e softer.
First time through, I stopped it at 7:35 and I think, a skin colored glue adhesive piece of tape, stuck to his thumb, very small even,. Like the size of an eraser head on a pencil, or smaller
And the other side of that skin colored piece of tape, stuck to the inside of the one of his thumbs or fingers? Maybe...
I would expect the other side of that tape to be blue with a small white line through it
Similar to the color and pattern on the deck...
. Now I know this is easy to look for if I watch the video again, but this was my first time through and I'm curious what Penn and Teller say
Okay, at 9 Minutes 8 Seconds...
It seems like I was correct, he used a type of 'Dobber'...
Style
As he was describing the act and said that it was gimmicked later, and agreed to a dobb, or two...
Then it could have been done the way I described, or something very similar method
If he wasn't feeling the card so much, it wouldn't have given it away so much
But he was technically just feeling the cards, which isn't a trick, one of them had to feel different
Same with the boxes
he forced the 10 clubs on Ross - not much black pen signature shows on a card like that, forged it in every single deck, and placed it in a certain position in every deck. the chance that it was actually the shuffled deck was very little, so that is how I guess it was done (that was not a bottom deal) so he could've done it without textures, marking, peeking etc.
World full of experts from basement
Maybe the boxes he shredded were not full of cards. He would’ve been able to feel the weight difference.
You can feel the broken seal on the deck with the signed card.
Yabba dabba glue, sticka stone on the box when repacking the cards back in
Love the blindfold and finding the card in the deck and I got this myself
I think he could feel if the seal was open with the blind fold on as the rest were shut. Idk about the signature
Pre signed one in every deck
So you felt for the ripped seam on the pack you opened? Not too hard but pretty damn smart broski! Loved it.
Not even close
@@magicmark52 Huh seriously? Thats a helluvah nifty trick then, I saw you grabbing them by the ends so I figured you went the simple route, guess I got something to go nuts over for the next couple days to figure it out :D Excellent job I hope you're still performing strong.
at 4:06 is just me or does that deck look different than the others
I only have 2 decks of bikes and this made me cry
JUST DO IT!!!! JUST DO IT!!!!
so many good decks :C
I assumed because the deck was 4 cards short he'd be able to feel a difference that way... I guess I was wrong yaba daba do y'all
ah yes the notorious MMA move know as Atomic Elbow Drop Off The Top Rope.
easy trick, feel the box by hand and feel the next card (his card next to the signed card) by hand
