    Me and my friends from high school were all nerds and unpopular. Because some of us were fat, wore glasses, liked to play magic cards, from poorer families so they didn't have the nicest clothes. People laughed at us, teased us, bullied us, beat us up........ I'm still friends with those guys 15+ years later, some of the nicest, funniest , smartest guys I've ever met. I stopped worrying what others thought and started doing what I wanted to do, hang out with people who kind decent human beings with similar interests.

      I was on the other side of the spectrum, while I've never bullied anyone, having certain sports skills and be in good shape qualified me to be in that selected group. I did sacrificed a lot to be there, like not having vacations in 5 years by spending summer vacations in training facilities so I could make school basketball, baseball, volleyball, tennis and soccer team. Yes, some of those guys were really mean against those non-privileged students who BTW were the large majority of the school. Notoriously, about 90% of those popular football/baseball jocks/cheerleaders were average or below average students, academically speaking. Sure they got tons of fun while it lasted. Seeing them 20 years after high school graduation in a reunion group, I realized how the "nerd" ones were on top of the food chain now, professionally and economically speaking. Most of those underrated "nerds" people made fun of them during 5 long years, became successful surgeons, IT engineers working for Motorola, IBM, psychiatrist, gynecologist, college deans, etc. From all that privileged and popular group(around 18), only 3 of us got successful professional careers, the rest just got meaningless and average jobs.

And when he let loose during the 'Thriller' scene was beyond hilarious. Seeing his reactions while his world is being invaded by 'Nerd'-dom (while meeting Louis and the gang for the first time) was downright funny. He seems to always play the straight/serious characters in funny movies, but always stands out. A very, funny, under-rated actor, IMHO. Stan's expression of guilt (6:10) has a backstory that didn't make it to the final cut. In the original storyline, Stan tried to conceal a secret from the AlphaBeta fraternity; he had a brother who was a nerd. If you've seen the DVD extras and deleted scenes, you'll know this. There's a scene where Stan's brother calls to ask him a favor; to which Stan quickly reprimands him and says never to call back again. I may have the exact details wrong, but you get the point. It all comes full circle in the end of Nerds Part 3 where Stan is liberated and says he always wanted to pursue other things (reading books, getting good grades) growing up, but was forced by his parents to aspire to more superficial pursuits; becoming popular and finding a platform to feed that popularity, sports. I wished they could've kept this in the film, so as to add more complexity to his character arc. A fun little trivia for all ROTN lovers like me.

    • @christopherdieudonne
      @christopherdieudonne 7 лет назад +6

      You're correct. However, the movie ends with a choral version of "We are the Champions" sung by the Royal Choral Society, in which they end the song with "OF THE WORLD". Revenge of the Nerds was released in 1984 and the famous Wimbley Stadium Queeen Concert where Freddie ends the song with "of the world" was done in 1985 which leads to be believe that "of the world" was actually the ending of the song because why whould a presticious institution like that choral society tack on an ending to such an iconic song that wasn"t there before. Also, since the choral recording was done in 1984, was Freddie influenced to end the song in live versions with "of the world" because of "Revenge of the Nerds" ?? And please, no one bite my head off; it's just a theory.
