Share idol freestyles under this comment! I want to make a video about different aspects and different ‘levels’ of freestyle. What do freestyle and battle dancers work on? How do choreo dancers and beginners typically freestyle? It will NOT be a video to ‘diss’ weaker freestyles. Please respect that everyone is at a different point in their journey and that some dancers just don’t prioritize it. I don’t know every group, so it would be very helpful if you could share your favourite (or even just average) freestyles. I’m also including Feeldog and JJ, so other former idols/trainees can be mentioned too. It would be best to link specific videos
i'm not an engene myself, but i've seen some enhypen free styling clips here and there so maybe that's helpful! looking forward to this video when it comes out already :D
ruclips.net/video/etddCTddFm0/видео.html not quite sure if this would still be relevant as it’s two years old now when he was 15 and now he’s almost 18 but this video of ni-ki freestyling went viral so i’d love to see what you think ! I know enhypen always freestyle a lot in dance jams so i’m sure there’s clips around on twitter and stuff . Also ateez i think have some pretty good freestylers i’ve heard
i love the way hanbin's background influences how he dances other styles. his upright alignment adds such grace to his performances. thank you for this analysis!
FINALLY someone who actually knows what they are talking about!! I've been dancing for 15ish years, all kinds of styles, and I agree with pretty much everything you said here. Zhang Hao's dancing seriously fascinates me and I think a lot of people underestimate his skills. I also agree 100% with Hanbin, I go back and forth almost daily about whether his upper body and shoulder posture lend a pleasing aesthetic flair or make his movements not quite connect. It obviously fits in his waacking/tutting/vogueing material, but everything else sways one way or another for me. Either way, loved all your analysis!
I really love that gunwook is a strong dancer but he never overdances... he has a perfect control on his body and honestly he knows where to put power and where to go smooth. He is such a great idol dancer while hanbin is such a professional dancer and thats why I always think of these two as the main dancers of zb1
@@rumjhumgupta7137 I agree. He is really and exceptional dancer. no overdancing with a strong physics and not losing control with long limbs... I think he will get recognation for his dancing a lot im the future
True!! It's mainly because some focused on his facial expressions and overall cute charm. But he's an amazing dancer, I hope to see him in more opportunities to showcase his skills and blow everyones mind
honestly, i mostly feel like its because mnet portrayed him as a vocalist throughout the show without even mentioning that he literally auditioned with dance as his main position
@miam_k true, but it seems like people also forgot the fact that Matthew said he was most confident in dancing, which was literally in the first episode.... and the part where he mentions that he started dancing because of his sister 😭 it was always obvious to me that he was a DANCER even though he wasn't really my top pick or anything. if you watched all or a good portion of the "Here I Am" fancams, you'd notice that Matthew was one of the trainees who executed the choreo very well
ugh exactly! So glad to see gunwook get the praise he deserves he’s definitely an all rounder for real. I’ve been a fan since wild idol and he’s improved so much from back then ! I also think he’s most likely much better than we know but due to the lack of dance footage and other styles there’s only so much to go off of. Although i’m glad you were able to recognize his skills from what’s available so thank you for this analysis. I love your videos and how kind respectful and open minded you are
@@chenles_defender Gunwook is ! He’s an amazing vocalist and has proved himself at the age of 16 on wild idol, kstarnextdoor and on boys planet as well as their 1st album! His rap is also amazing he was complimented by tigerjk and some of the other veteran rappers personally! He wrote and was chosen to have his rap in the wild idol signal song and let’s not forget tomboy and the chypers he’s been apart of and he’s continuously talks about how he wants to show more but hasn’t been able to! He’s going to do a freestyle on knowing bros very soon ! Hao is also amazing so let’s not compare anyone when both have worked hard for all their talents and achievements :)
@@akksnj7461 Most members in the group are better vocalists than him, also his rap in Tomboy was painful to hear, his flow and rhymes aren't anything outstanding, that TigerJK guy just biased him and it's obvious. We don't want him to show us more, we have seen enough and aren't satisfied.
@@chenles_defender If you want to be negative that’s up to you but regardless of what you say he’s still doing well and creating a future for himself 😊
The fact that gunwook is also only 18 😭😭 im so sure hes going to improve a heck ton and find a dancing style that fits right for him and Im so ready for it
@@chenles_defender You're just being offended and belittling Gonook by saying that the others are better. Enough already, mind your crap and accept that Gunwook is a great dancer
The Ricky analysis makes me so happy! I usually see him ranked a bit lower (rank 8) when it comes to dancing so I was quite surprised when I didn’t see him in that place. I also eat up any form of Ricky appreciation by professionals because, as a Ricky bias, I feel like not many people recognize how skilled he is.
I think it's because of the different concept when he was doing over me he was slaying, but ppl are some times weaker in different styles of dancing and I don't really think these songs fit ricky that well as the other members, but I feel like with time he will get better and adapt to these songs.idk he was doing way better in the survival show.he is a good dancer tho, I am a ricky bias too. But yeah moving and traveling
Personally, I love Hanbin's controlled, clean style of dancing. It's so satisfying to watch him imo, because he hits all the lines and angles pretty perfectly. He's so detailed. Thank you for the video!!
Now I know why during BP his dancing was 'textbook' example. He was a teacher after all. While I prefer Gunwook's dancing more (his power is incredible), Hanbin sure makes moves look pretty
i love to see matthew praise, top 3 is very true indeed. he's my favorite dancer in zb1 i agree with your points, and its clear that he had prior experience in dancing before coming to bp! on top of that his stage presence is amazing so his fancams are always entertaining to watch .
Something I hope ZB1 continues to do is stick with dividing their comebacks into elegant, girl-group adjacent styles, and more aggressive typical 4th gen (think Enhyphen or NCT) dance styles. I think Gunwook and Yujin are really thriving in particular with the groovy, energetic vibe of New Kids on the Block; similarly, I think Zhang Hao and Ricky are really unique standouts in their ability to be delicate and lovely through In Bloom. (To me, Hanbin and Matthew are uniquely versatile and shine equally in both concepts). This video also helps me to understand the criticism Jiwoong received from the dance mentors on Boys Planet. I do think his stage presence is strong and well-developed to compensate, though!
I totally agree! I think what has really divided 4th gen into being so girl group focused with only a few standout bgs, is that the powerful aggressive fast boy group concepts are losing the dimension and intrigue they had at the start of 4th gen. girl groups have been offering quite a diverse range of concepts that tend to center a sort of elegance and playfulness. i need my elegant refreshing boy group concepts back!!! zb1 is so refreshing to me as someone who mainly stans girl groups, the only bg that appeals to me these days is txt because they still lean a little more toward elegance. im so happy to have zhang hao debut especially, he's so elegant and i really love that he is trained in a more elegant and feminine style of dance :)
@@rosa-zh9sxi agree txt was also like this when they first debuted in a sea of boy groups at that time where the aggressive powerful concepts from bgs were prevalent everywhere and they came out with crown which was a very refreshing song from a bg at that time the same situatuon seems to be applied here wity zb1
this!!!! this is why i want them to continue their gg-esque choreographies and songs for their title tracks, most of the members shine more with more elegant, structured and angles choreographies than groovy hip hop choreographies and the ones that shine more in the latter are still great at the former. and since hao especially is the center, that’s the concept he shines the most with and it would be hard to build a choreo around him when it’s not his strong suit
personally i think this is the most unbiased zb1 dance ranking out there - and i love the fact that you just don't describe things, but show exactly what you mean with examples
gunwook dances so well for how enormous and long-limbed he is! probably because he's a lot more muscular and less lanky than gyuvin, for example. he reminds me of sanha from astro.
This ! I'm a fan of Astro since many years and i feel gunwook dance style is so similar to Moonbin and Sanha, especially the footworks and power he adds to some move
literally no one ever believes me when i say that Matthew is one of the best dancers in the group, so thank you for this ranking! his open style performances before boys planet said it all.
Thank you so much!!! I personally like Matthew's style the most and it hurts my heart how people can't see that he's one of the best dancers in the group. I hope one day he won't remain as underrated as he is.
Dancers who are groovy but not very detailed & clean dancing always get underrated 😭 (even kddd said so, emphasis on synchronization really make kpop fans not appreciating groove), like Dayeon unpopular being groovy not clean and also Jihyo, both similar to Matthew 😭, I love groovy dancers (and Matthew's dancing) too!
@@Prati_7 yeah Jihyo also best groove in twice but people seldom think she's one of the best dancers in twice 😭, best works are Perfect World & Icon, also Espresso & Get Loud, relaxed bouncy and fluid 😎
FINALLY someone that recpgnises that matthew is one of the stronger dancers in the group! His dancing is never really talked about in the fandom or much at all in planet boys. But his dancing is actually what brought me to be a fan of zb1! I saw a clip of him dancing in a yt short and i HAD to know which group this amazing dancer was from, and lo and behold - i found out what group he was from and his name. Then i watched their dance oractices and alrhough i didnt know their faces at the time, i could tell matthew apart from the rest every single time just by looking out for his dancing style. He has so much energy and a unique dancing style and he always stood out to me. Not to mention the most adorable person on earth with the most likeable, bubbly personality ever.
I love how you explained Zhang Hao because I couldn't exactly explain why his dancing style was so different yet so pleasing to look at! Edit: I noticed he had really good posture?? Like, that type of guy who in class is sat with a perfectly straight back and always looking forward without being stiff. Idk, I feel he has nice balance
your comment about the rise of "tiktok dancers" whose dance styles are visibly catered for the camera is a really interesting point especially since some of the most popular groups who debuted recently (zb1 being the perfect example) were chosen through survivals, so tv and media play a really crucial role in their career. wich also means that the lineup could have been different had they been selected solely by people who had seen them dance in real life...
I also noticed, even with my untrained eye, Gyuvin's lack of core strength and then Hanbin's torso and neck posture whenever they danced. Gyuvin's dance always felt a little unstable, if that's the right word, and would sort of take me out of the performance. I think if he gained some more strength he could be an amazing dancer, as his long limbs and wide movements could seriously paint an amazing picture unique to him (his proportions are seriously so unique and his face is so small that he truly has an opportunity to be one of a kind based on his build alone). Hanbin's torso posture is like a 50/50 for me. While it really does help form perfect angles and is his own style, I feel like it can lack cohesiveness with the group. It's very easy to notice when he's more upright than the members when they do more fluid choreography meant not to be so stiff. Outside of that, literally perfectly controlled and like a perfect dancer. I also cannot get over how much potential Gunwook has, and the sentences below will be a deep dive on him so read at your own risk. Gunwook has been dancing since he's a kid (I mean he literally turned 18 during Boy's Planet) and you can see how much he enjoys the stage in his fancams. I don't think his facial expressions get discussed enough. He's super versatile, doesn't over-dance, has really good rhythm and groove when relaxed, and is always smiling when dancing. I also think his build, similar to Gyuvin, really allows him to further be unique. Tall, wide shoulders, and very strong, and his athletic past helped create an innate muscular physique that isn't very common in kpop, which he himself has talked about during a magazine interview (when I talk about muscular physique I'm talking about genetic make-up, muscles not exclusively made in a gym but rather from day to day life or sports. There is a difference, however small, as muscles created from sports are able to be utilized in more ways than muscles specifically enhanced via just the gym. That's why the strongest men in the world don't have a washboard abs but are just generally thick and wide. That means muscular physique is not just an outward appearances of abs or things of that nature, it is an underlying structure and you can tell by the fact Gunwook beat Matthew twice at arm wrestling, even though Matthew has huge arms and looks like he'd win, that Gunwook is STRONG. He also has a longer leverage because he's tall, and is theorized as being likely near 185cm/6'1 in height so his limbs are very long. JYP once talked about how soccer gave ITZY's Yuna a great foundation for dancing and why it was way easier for her to transition from sports to dancing compared to others. Gunwook, like Yuna, used to be a very good soccer player, so it makes sense why he's so fast, has very good footwork, and looks 'stronger' or 'thicker' than typical rookie boy group members; the muscles he has were sports trained and not cosmetic. He's also spoken about how it's easy for him to gain muscle so he's just blessed in general. Genetics + sports foundation = uncommon physique in kpop. Most boy group rookies debut very skinny, or lean fit, and Gunwook looks normal fit, and when added to his height and dance capabilities, he really is genuinely unique). I am so excited to see what he does in the future. If he just keeps doing what he's doing, and continues to practice, I think in the future he could easily be an idol's idol. Sorry if I sound a little delusional but yeah these are my thoughts about him. It's also like 1 in the morning so excuse the length I'm very tired and rambling
That's why I always watch gunwook's fancam before watching zerobaseone's fancam. Even though "in bloom" is a boy flower song, Gunwook's movement still has a manly side to it. Dy did not lose it. I like male performers, even though the songs are sensual or bright, they still have a manly side. Speed, decisiveness, and emphasis in the dance.
Me checking who is the first rank first to see if the video is legit KDJFKDK JKJK anyways thank you so much for this video! I completely agree especially on matthews, I did notice he has more bounce in his movements (I love that so much)! Also gunwook’s and hanbin’s analysis were my fave, I’m really impressed with both of them. I especially want to see hanbin’s growth in dance as he expands his dance vocab more…! Just hoping the guy doesn’t stop learning! His chronology of how he shaped his dance style is great, thank you for compiling that!
I would say that even the boys planet master also praise zhang hao is a dancer material that only dance better as times goes on, and zhang hao even added a choreo in :here i am" performance when in boys planet. Zhang hao is a smart dancer and he is hardworker that is so discpline (kim ji woong and kim tae rae said zhang hao is a very discipline person toward himself) so it is no wonder that zhang hao can dance and also can sing and becoming all rounder and one of the most stable singer while doing hard choreo as an idol. He also has strong aura (over me and jelly pop, he slayed it hard and aura or stage presence on stage is really a must for an idol to compete with other talented guys especially when there are so many new boys group appearing after boys planet end in this kpop industry). If not for zb1only has 2.5 years, i am sure even now, zhang hao is like a sponge that keep absorbing new knowldge and strive to become better as an idol, he would grow big as an kpop idol but there are only 2.5 years time 😢.
Great analysis.. someone who truly understand hanbins pre debut dances and how it molds him today. The guy dances so well and some thinks hes stiff but it is because of his tutting and wacking skills but still, it does not affect how detailed and precise he is when it comes to dancing.
I always felt that the Sung Hanbin + Seok Matthew combination from the very beginning of Boys Planet was such a wonderful combination as they were opposites but could learn from each other. Now that they are officially ZB1, I'm hoping Matthew's groovy moves will become a part of Hanbin's lexicon and that Hanbin's detailed executions will help to position Matthew's lines more with the overall group. Glad to see my overall pick, Gunwook, as your #2 - I believe he has the most potential and look forward to his growth.
a great analysis video as always! personally, matthew's my favorite dancer in zb1, but i know he still has some flaws that you mentioned in the video. however, his grooviness and his natural charisma just makes him so engaging to watch and i'm never bored when watching his fancams. i'm honestly really glad zb1 has debuted with a concept that allows for some natural groove to be implemented (unlike boys planet's ktl) - it really allows matthew to shine. anyways, just wanted to gush a little haha. thank you for the video!
this analysis is absolutely fascinating!!!! i don't have experience with dance at all, so seeing you put into words things that ive noticed through watching their fancams is so cool. the way that ricky's tiktok dancing plays into his current idol dancing is so cool lol. thanks for posting!
Groovy dancers aesthetically unpleasing that's why, girl's planet/kep1er Dayeon also very good at groove but underestimated by lots of kepi stans saying she unclean gg dancing 🤷🏻♂️
@@neku016honestly doubt that, dance analysis like kpop deep dives have said groovy dancers always not appreciated by kpop stans because they want cleanliness & synchronization in dancing. Since Matthew a groovy dancer, and do you know GP999/Kepi's Dayeon also top in gg groove but people always underestimate her dancing and saying her dancing unclean, and it has been 2 years 🤐
Very good analysis - as a dancer myself I mostly agree with this! In their capacity as an idol performer I would have placed Gunwook first because he truly executes the demanding choreographies we often see today quite flawlessly, and he makes them look good. His lines and understanding of textures, along with his ability to execute them, to me makes him the best in the dance department. Hanbin is obviously amazing as well especially with the things he can do outside of his capacity as an idol performer. But I must say although he has great lines, his textures are not always the most appealing. I hope he can showcase more of his individuality in their performances because that’s what makes him so special and fresh.
Really love the disclaimer at the end that the line between potential systematic technical flaws and stylistic choices is really blurry. I've seen a lot of youtube channels criticise idols for dancing in a certain way when it's kind of what makes them unique. While there is some objectivity in judging dance, there's no one way to judge it all. Different styles of dance exist, and dancers have personal styles too. It's the same for most forms of art.
i've been looking forward to this video since u mentioned it in a comment and wow it did not dissapoint!! the DETAIL in this was fantastic, and also the background music was rly nice too (random mention but it made the video rly nice to watch) this was v understandable to watch for someone who isn't at all a dancer (me), so thank u for making such a wonderful video!!
Honestly Matthew's dancing is addicting to watch but I do sometimes think he occasionally sticks out when it's in a group formation, because he's just always feeling the music SO MUCH hahaha. I admire how his background has solidified his dancing style to be so recognisably 'Matthew'. Gunwook is a top performer across the board when i watched his Here I Am final fancam his body lines are aesthetically pleasing and clean, definitely someone meant to be on stage. I'm going to watch more of Jiwoong now that I read he took part choreographing his old group's dance INX's Alright (but besides kprofiles i cant find other sources for it) Thank you for all the thorough analysis!
very interesting! i think zhang hao is the member where i see the most obvious potential-- he's already improved so much since pre-debut, and even in each boys planet stage i feel like he got better. i mean, his training period was very short, and he only did casual dance lessons before then, so i think it makes a lot of sense that he'd be improving very rapidly right now. i think he suits the choreo of this comeback super well, but his style is definitely specific and could stand out a bit in other concepts. i guess we'll just have to see.
the best analysis tho. for me I really enjoy matthew's dancing skills. it's so satisfying and entertaining to watch, like what you said he's the most groovy dancer in the group and I think that explains why he suits whatever choreo he dances. he adds these movements that compliment the choreo without much exaggeration and that contributes a lot to his undeniable stage presence. but sometimes he lacks the focus to the details of the choreo so I agree with that. overall, I really like his style the most.
I’m fascinated that Zhang Hao ranks relatively high despite training to dance for 2-3ish years and most of that time he was in college and doing part-time jobs. I’m looking forward to see how he improves in the future. Thank you for the video!
@@fangirlmode8705zeroses like him tho, my bias is gunwook and i know how it feels to have ur bias slandered the whole time but those ppl are just not part of the fandom!!
tbh even though im not a professional but as someone really interested in dancing, i really agree with your placement of ricky as 6 because i've seen that most ranking places him at 8, he actually is a really good dancer but some people refuse (i guess?) to acknowledge that and i feel so sad whenever they rank him so low, coz to me, he dances so gracefully and he executes his moves so elegantly that it looks so pleasing to the eyes, and i feel he pays a lot of attention to his body lines when dancing
Such an informative video as always, the amount of detail, research, and simple explanations really give a better understanding of the basic qualities behind everyone's different dance styles and techniques The editing makes it very easy to follow along and match the commentary to visual proof as well Thanks for your hard work
Thank you for the analysis!! I don't know the technical terms, but Zhang Hao's dance line is so pretty to look at. Everything is so smooth and beautiful? the angles, positioning, etc. Like he really knows how to move and knows what's the best angle to make his dance and posture look so pretty. And I saw a compilation of his isolation improvement from In Bloom's 1st performance to his latest one(the movement where they hold their chests and move their heads, usually around 0:20 in their video) and to improve THAT much in just 3 weeks is insane. I get it how the dance mentors in bp said that it's clear his dance can still improve and it's not his peak yet. He'll just keep improving from now on and I can't wait to see how much better of a dancer he would become in the future. His dances always stood out to me. The moment I saw them dance, my eyes always zero-ed on Zhang Hao and he really suits In Bloom choreo(well, I like his new kidz on the block dance, too. his body control is so good. maybe i just like his dancing style hahaha).
Thanks for your analysis. Somehow seeing the dance line of Hanbin brings me a feeling of neat and elegant🩵That’s a irreplaceable dancing style that makes him stands out among the kpop idols✨
omg thank you for such a wonderful video!! your analysis was so detailed and well-explained and you used such great videos as examples that i could really see what you were referring to in a particular analysis! as someone who knows nothing about dance but often watch their videos i had noticed a lot of the things you mentioned in the analyses but hadn’t known what they were called, so i was super happy to learn about the dance techniques through your analysis! i especially liked the way you broke down how both zhang hao and hanbin’s dance backgrounds inform their dance styles, it was so cool to see how and why their dance styles and techniques came to be. also thank you for finally explaining and putting into words what’s going on with ricky’s dance technique!!! it made SO much sense suddenly when you used the tiktok dancer analogy to explain how he struggles with transitions but knows the good angles and what looks aesthetically pleasing. in fact, like i said you explained so many things i’d noticed but never knew how to explain it, like how jiwoong’s style is very 2/3 gen and how yujin has raw talent but not the experience, so thank you so much i really enjoyed watching your analysis and learned a lot! and side note, but if you ever do a seventeen dance ranking i’d be sooo happy because i just love them as performers but regardless i’ll be looking forward to all your future dance rankings!
I never knew how to put into words what you said about Hanbin’s upright position, but yea I agree. It always looked rather stiff to me personally when monitored individually, but I think lately he’s improved a little.
I wish you added an overall conclusion for Zhang Hao and Matthew too since they were the only ones who didn’t get any. But yeah this was a great analysis! I find Yujin’s dancing the most pleasing to watch because of his light elegant clean style (which btw I tend to prefer over the strong powerful sharp dancers in all the boy groups I stan)
this video really helped me appreciate Yujin and Matthew's dancing more! Also, I'm so happy Gunwook is receiving recognition for his abilities! He and Hanbin are my biases and happen to be my favorite dancers, but as a non-dancer this analysis was incredibly insightful. Thank you always!
Hanbin is exactly the way choreographer wants idols to dance the way he has extreme control over his body his isolation and groove is so clear as an experience with 2 yrs of dancing I can see how much he worked hard to achieve this dancing. Hanbin is the probably the best idol dancer of this generation who excelled in both open dancing and idol dancing
Personally I would put Gyuvin at #8, and Jiwoong at #7, and I think Jiwoong and Ricky are at a very similar level so #7 and #6 are pretty interchangable. Otherwise i agree!
Most hip hop dancers tend to miss details as groove kinda fucks up your form, so unless you’re focused on clean sharp moves, I completely agree with matthews analysis (coming from a hip hop dancer)
I believe Yujin is an idol who has a strong sense of how to make dance look good, but at the same time, he's someone who needs more time to learn choreography and think about how to perform it. Many of the shortcomings in the video come from Law's stage performance. However, Law had only one week of preparation time for their performance on Boys Planet. During this time, they had to complete choreography and rap making. It seems like this preparation time was severely insufficient for him, and it significantly affected his performance. At the same time, none of the other ZB1 members chosen for this mission were heavily focused on dance. Many members in the group actually don't have enough videos showcasing their dance abilities. Nevertheless, Hanbin and Gunwook are undoubtedly the top two.
Personally I think Yujin just needs time. By now he's only been dancing for 2 years which is I think less than everyone in the group, half a year which he spent in Boys Planet. So, I feel like he just hasn't had time to figure out a personal style or just a focus on a certain style of dancing beyond what he learned as a trainee. He has raw talent but I think it's like a painting that's very pleasing to the eye and the final product is amazing, but if you look closely you can tell that the person went mostly by instinct so they don't have all the technicalities of painting down. I feel like if he focuses on his dancing even in the 2 years and a half they're a group beyond their group choreographies and by spending time with these members who have really good foundation, we'll be able to see immense growth from him. And he has time he's only 16, so he has nothing BUT time especially since even when ZB1's contract ends he'll still be like 18? (idk my math is bad lol) but he's definitely one of the members who's growth even beyond ZB1 I look forward to and anticipate. (im not sure if im entirely making sense bcs I have a more difficult time translating my thoughts as I want in English)
The painting analogy was brilliant! I agree, his skills definitely need polishing but I am surprised every time I remember he hasn't been dancing for that long. On that note Gunwook is also so young and talented AND he has clearly spent a lot of time honing his skills
I look forward to yujin's growth the most. I remember my jaw dropping seeing clips of him krumping or freestyling on BP and being so surprised. He really does have raw talent I can feel how great he can be..with time. He'll get the experience so def not worried about that
On Zhang Hao: compared to the other top 5 he lacks physical strength 😂😂 yes he did lose the arm wrestling and all physical related games Thank you for the detailed analysis , I'm very impressed that Zhang Hao is ranked highly with relatively low experience, it's also really enlightening to see how his previous jazz dancing affects his bg dancing now. And with how hard working he is I'm optimistic his dancing will only get better and better in the future
The insight into how Hanbin's dance background influenced how he dances was interesting, but it'd also be nice if there was more commentary here on why he ranks first here and his strengths. Kind of feels like there's more praise for the members ranked underneath him as well as more focus on Hanbin's weaknesses in comparison, which ends up making me wonder why he's first on your list.
His part was already longer than the rest and because most people already agree that his technique is quite 'textbook' good, him having gotten professional jobs and all, I focused more on the unique aspects of his dancing. But I see why it might be confusing.
Actually surprised about yujin in 5th, since he is considered the second best dancer in zb1 and is part of the dancing line which Hao isn’t part of, but loved the list, you are right about experience ❤❤ Pd: our baby Gunwook is really a golden all rounder, he probably is in the top 3 of every category (dance, rap and vocal)
Gunwook number one, he's just overall amazing to watch. Hanbin really good in styles of dance in wacking, but not a strong dancer still amazing. I first noticed Gunwook in his audition part of the show, that got me hooked to watch BP. I just thought got to watch the rest of this show to see his performances and he did not disappoint. All the contestants were good in some way, but Gunwook killed it in every category.
i’ve watched a few of ur videos and you never fail to impress me w both ur knowledge and attention to detail!! along w the editing i find ur videos very enjoyable ^^
i always thought it was so strange how the boys planet producers glorified certain members as Dancers while completely ignoring others. this video was so refreshing in comparison. extremely based and unbiased.
OMG !!! I love your analysis although thanks to that I'm never gonna watch them the same 🤣... it's like once you notice the style become hard to separate what you learn and just enjoy 🙈😂...I would like your opinion what do you think happened to them as dancer after 2 1/2 years .. and also about contestants in Boys Planet like Park Han Bin, Keith, Haruto, Cha Woong Ki please
i'd absolutely adore and fall in love with a video going over roughly how different companies may emphasize different things? like touching on how trainees from other companies are affected. like i think you've talked about how yeosang and wooyoung from ateez carry aspects from hybe? i wonder if that's the same with matthew (as he apparently got cut? before howling). i wonder if there are things you spot where you could guess hmm that person could've trained under this company because the company values x or y? (i like to think jongho got his like inhuman live singing from TOP Media what with their live practices dating back into the past decade--)
There are definitely some aspects that are very recognisable from certain companies, but I'm not sure if it's enough to make a video about it. Also, it depends more about the teachers at the companies which can change over time. But thank you for the idea, maybe I can include it somewhere!
Omg, everything you said about jiwoong i was like hold on a second, i think i dance the exact same way as him for better or for worse. Im not a professional dancer i just take kpop classes for fun, but i have been taking hip hop classes since i was a child and i definitely rely on old habits, i also struggle with footwork and finishing moves. I really want to get better at being more precise as i mostly focus on the aesthetic or vibe of the dance but when i learned a dance like supernova i watched my video and noticed i looked too messy. Since ive been dancing for so long I really dont know where to start fixing my old habits and improving my footwork, for now i just practice those aspects extra but if you have any tips much appreciated
I appreciate your videos SO much, thank you!! As a non-dancer I often can't explain what draws me to one person or another. From your previous videos I understood why I liked Matthew (I love groovy dancers, like Mingi) but I couldn't pinpoint why my eyes kept sliding to Zhang Hao... Also I would LOVE to see an update after a couple of years. Would be fascinating to see of eg Jiwoong (my bias 💖) changes with more exposure to the 4th (5th?!) gen approach. Also also, I so appreciate your disclaimer at the beginning. I'm usually chill about informed criticism and different opinions etc, but I still had a brief spark of annoyance at seeing Jiwoong in 8th. Not because I know better or you were being mean, but because... that's my boy 😂 No matter how mature you think you are, the power of your bias can make you irrational 🙃
Hiii sorry to bother you with sometbing unrelated but can I ask if you have any plans to do such a video on seventeen? They have so many good dancers that I think it would be really interesting to see! Thank you and btw great video
I think Yugyeom should be mentioned. :) He's one of the rare idols who seems to be continuously working on his freestyle skills.
Love your videos
i'm not an engene myself, but i've seen some enhypen free styling clips here and there so maybe that's helpful! looking forward to this video when it comes out already :D
I think itzy and loona members have done some freestyles while livestreaming before!
ruclips.net/video/etddCTddFm0/видео.html not quite sure if this would still be relevant as it’s two years old now when he was 15 and now he’s almost 18 but this video of ni-ki freestyling went viral so i’d love to see what you think ! I know enhypen always freestyle a lot in dance jams so i’m sure there’s clips around on twitter and stuff . Also ateez i think have some pretty good freestylers i’ve heard
Here's nmixx's freestyle live!
ruclips.net/video/MVMuxOEk7ow/видео.html
I know they're not advanced freestyle-ers, but I hope this helps you!
i love the way hanbin's background influences how he dances other styles. his upright alignment adds such grace to his performances. thank you for this analysis!
Agreed!
Thank you so much!
I really love that gunwook is a strong dancer but he never overdances... he has a perfect control on his body and honestly he knows where to put power and where to go smooth. He is such a great idol dancer while hanbin is such a professional dancer and thats why I always think of these two as the main dancers of zb1
EXACTLY so many powerful dancers lose control sometimes but Gunwook never misses. Im so excited to see him develop his skills
@@rumjhumgupta7137 I agree. He is really and exceptional dancer. no overdancing with a strong physics and not losing control with long limbs... I think he will get recognation for his dancing a lot im the future
Nah, we have seen better.
@@chenles_defender you lifeless people are lurking under gunwook praising comments judt to insult him? thats obsessive
@@dilrubaklc2275 Why are you so mad? We are just saying there are better idols than him, which is true.
matthew is really a good dancer, but he's TOO underestimated by his own fandom. 😭
True!! It's mainly because some focused on his facial expressions and overall cute charm. But he's an amazing dancer, I hope to see him in more opportunities to showcase his skills and blow everyones mind
He's definitely a great dancer. His isolation techniques are really expressed in nkotb. If only he gets to show it off more
honestly, i mostly feel like its because mnet portrayed him as a vocalist throughout the show without even mentioning that he literally auditioned with dance as his main position
@@miam_k Also because he makes it look effortless because of his natural and groovy style, so nothing 'sticks out'
@miam_k true, but it seems like people also forgot the fact that Matthew said he was most confident in dancing, which was literally in the first episode.... and the part where he mentions that he started dancing because of his sister 😭 it was always obvious to me that he was a DANCER even though he wasn't really my top pick or anything. if you watched all or a good portion of the "Here I Am" fancams, you'd notice that Matthew was one of the trainees who executed the choreo very well
Hanbin's section was so intriguing, he's quite an interesting dancer in the 4th/5th gen Kpop bg scene
ugh exactly! I love your videos and how kind respectful and open minded you are
Thank you!
He isn't an all rounder, his vocals and rapping are lacking a lot, Hao is a better all rounder than him.

But yeah moving and traveling
ricky is so talented! and a visual god too
Personally, I love Hanbin's controlled, clean style of dancing.
@@rosa-zh9sx I feel the same way
@@rosa-zh9sxi agree txt was also like this when they first debuted in a sea of boy groups at that time where the aggressive powerful concepts from bgs were prevalent everywhere and they came out with crown which was a very refreshing song from a bg at that time the same situatuon seems to be applied here wity zb1
this!!!! this is why i want them to continue their gg-esque choreographies and songs for their title tracks, most of the members shine more with more elegant, structured and angles choreographies than groovy hip hop choreographies and the ones that shine more in the latter are still great at the former. and since hao especially is the center, that’s the concept he shines the most with and it would be hard to build a choreo around him when it’s not his strong suit
personally i think this is the most unbiased zb1 dance ranking out there - and i love the fact that you just don't describe things, but show exactly what you mean with examples
gunwook dances so well for how enormous and long-limbed he is! probably because he's a lot more muscular and less lanky than gyuvin, for example. he reminds me of sanha from astro.
@@dhy0114 omg jihyo is one of my favourites!!
@@Prati_7 yeah Jihyo also best groove in twice but people seldom think she's one of the best dancers in twice 😭, best works are Perfect World & Icon, also Espresso & Get Loud, relaxed bouncy and fluid 😎
I love groovy dancers like Matthew and (his fellow Canadian) Mark so I am glad to see the appreciation for him!
Hanbin’s dance looks very fluent and elegant to me.
I think Hanbin's dance is really professional. I think he is one of the top level dancers in the 4th generation. Also top in the 5th generation
He is in 5th generation, the best male dancer in the 5th generation so far together wirh Shotaro.
I love how you explained Zhang Hao because I couldn't exactly explain why his dancing style was so different yet so pleasing to look at!
Edit: I noticed he had really good posture?? Like, that type of guy who in class is sat with a perfectly straight back and always looking forward without being stiff. Idk, I feel he has nice balance
your comment about the rise of "tiktok dancers" whose dance styles are visibly catered for the camera is a really interesting point especially since some of the most popular groups who debuted recently (zb1 being the perfect example) were chosen through survivals, so tv and media play a really crucial role in their career. wich also means that the lineup could have been different had they been selected solely by people who had seen them dance in real life...
i love taerae but the excercise comparison made me laugh 😭 i’m not a dancer and all of ZB1 are so talented so it’s so cool to hear your insight! 🥰
pls that was so accurate lol I dont think I'll be able to see him without remembering that
I was wheezing 😭😭
I love the way you described this! I notice this too with him. I like that he still has a masculine side to his dancing.
SAME! if it's not hanbin and throw the whole list away 😂
Glad to see my overall pick, Gunwook, as your #2 - I believe he has the most potential and look forward to his growth.
gunwook is actually the perfect idol his dancing is so satisfying and he’s an amazing rapper and singer on top of that??? DAMN
a great analysis video as always! personally, matthew's my favorite dancer in zb1, but i know he still has some flaws that you mentioned in the video. however, his grooviness and his natural charisma just makes him so engaging to watch and i'm never bored when watching his fancams. i'm honestly really glad zb1 has debuted with a concept that allows for some natural groove to be implemented (unlike boys planet's ktl) - it really allows matthew to shine. anyways, just wanted to gush a little haha. thank you for the video!
Yeah Matthew is definitely also my favorite dancer! He’s so groovy and bouncy!
Exactly!!
no wonder my favorite dancers in the group are the top 3 here! watching their fancams is so fun (especially matthew and gunwook for me!)
I feel like we haven’t even seen gunwook’s full potential yet, his dance videos (inc. pre debut) are all mostly idol dances.
this analysis is absolutely fascinating!!!! i don't have experience with dance at all, so seeing you put into words things that ive noticed through watching their fancams is so cool. the way that ricky's tiktok dancing plays into his current idol dancing is so cool lol. thanks for posting!
The way matthew is always in top3 for dance ranking by professionals / experienced dancers but always rank bottom by zerose lmao
He is pretty underrated. But I do think that will changed by the end of this year hopefully
but he isn’t. there’s another professional ranking he’s 4th yujin is 3rd
@@dhy0114 oh that's just sad
It's the same for most forms of art.
i've been looking forward to this video since u mentioned it in a comment and wow it did not dissapoint!! the DETAIL in this was fantastic, and also the background music was rly nice too (random mention but it made the video rly nice to watch)
this was v understandable to watch for someone who isn't at all a dancer (me), so thank u for making such a wonderful video!!
Thank you so much!
I'm going to watch more of Jiwoong now that I read he took part choreographing his old group's dance INX's Alright (but besides kprofiles i cant find other sources for it)
Thank you for all the thorough analysis!
very interesting! i think zhang hao is the member where i see the most obvious potential-- he's already improved so much since pre-debut, and even in each boys planet stage i feel like he got better. i mean, his training period was very short, and he only did casual dance lessons before then, so i think it makes a lot of sense that he'd be improving very rapidly right now. i think he suits the choreo of this comeback super well, but his style is definitely specific and could stand out a bit in other concepts. i guess we'll just have to see.
the best analysis tho. for me I really enjoy matthew's dancing skills. it's so satisfying and entertaining to watch, like what you said he's the most groovy dancer in the group and I think that explains why he suits whatever choreo he dances. he adds these movements that compliment the choreo without much exaggeration and that contributes a lot to his undeniable stage presence. but sometimes he lacks the focus to the details of the choreo so I agree with that. overall, I really like his style the most.
I’m fascinated that Zhang Hao ranks relatively high despite training to dance for 2-3ish years and most of that time he was in college and doing part-time jobs. I’m looking forward to see how he improves in the future.
Thank you for the video!
Matthew is so underrated by the fans in both dancing and singing skills😢
People still hate him after what happened in BP. It's so obvious, they don't like him.
@@fangirlmode8705zeroses like him tho, my bias is gunwook and i know how it feels to have ur bias slandered the whole time but those ppl are just not part of the fandom!!
The effort and detail put into this video is outstanding.
tbh even though im not a professional but as someone really interested in dancing, i really agree with your placement of ricky as 6 because i've seen that most ranking places him at 8, he actually is a really good dancer but some people refuse (i guess?) to acknowledge that and i feel so sad whenever they rank him so low, coz to me, he dances so gracefully and he executes his moves so elegantly that it looks so pleasing to the eyes, and i feel he pays a lot of attention to his body lines when dancing
Such an informative video as always, the amount of detail, research, and simple explanations really give a better understanding of the basic qualities behind everyone's different dance styles and techniques
The editing makes it very easy to follow along and match the commentary to visual proof as well
Thanks for your hard work
Glad you enjoyed it!
The moment I saw them dance, my eyes always zero-ed on Zhang Hao and he really suits In Bloom choreo(well, I like his new kidz on the block dance, too. his body control is so good. maybe i just like his dancing style hahaha).
i agree- it’s just very pleasing to the eye, sort of graceful. and his quick improvement is crazy, he’s so smart
GUNWOOKKKKKK WHAT CAN THIS MAN NOT DO!!!!
Thank you! I definitely want to make a video on Seventeen in the future
Thank you! And also I am looking forward to the seventeen video.

I never knew how to put into words what you said about Hanbin’s upright position, but yea I agree. It always looked rather stiff to me personally when monitored individually, but I think lately he’s improved a little.
They hit jackpot with Zhanghao. A main vocal who can dance so well is rare
agreed!
so true! hes an allrounder!
And main rapper material too.
I wish you added an overall conclusion for Zhang Hao and Matthew too since they were the only ones who didn’t get any. But yeah this was a great analysis! I find Yujin’s dancing the most pleasing to watch because of his light elegant clean style (which btw I tend to prefer over the strong powerful sharp dancers in all the boy groups I stan)
i agree. yujin has decent techniques. he just lacks experience. his dancing will definitely improve as time goes on
this video really helped me appreciate Yujin and Matthew's dancing more! Also, I'm so happy Gunwook is receiving recognition for his abilities! He and Hanbin are my biases and happen to be my favorite dancers, but as a non-dancer this analysis was incredibly insightful. Thank you always!
first! have been waiting for analysis on zb1!!!
Most hip hop dancers tend to miss details as groove kinda fucks up your form, so unless you’re focused on clean sharp moves, I completely agree with matthews analysis (coming from a hip hop dancer)
hanbin can be top dancer in kpop
Nevertheless, Hanbin and Gunwook are undoubtedly the top two.
realest zb1 dance ranking omg
He'll get the experience so def not worried about that
this is so detailed, it's so fun and interesting to watch this video. i really enjoyed it!
On Zhang Hao: compared to the other top 5 he lacks physical strength 😂😂 yes he did lose the arm wrestling and all physical related games
Thank you for the detailed analysis , I'm very impressed that Zhang Hao is ranked highly with relatively low experience, it's also really enlightening to see how his previous jazz dancing affects his bg dancing now. And with how hard working he is I'm optimistic his dancing will only get better and better in the future
Hanbin is a great dancer but I personally prefer Gunwook’s dance style, he has those heavy releases, I luv it.
im so obssessed with matthews sense of groove like
Loved watching this even though I don't know this group!! Always incredibly informative and well put together!
Calling Ricky is a “tiktok dancer” is so fitting for him 💀. Anyways, I love watching him perform.
I would put gyuvin on 8th and jiwoong on 7th
And my no.1 pick will be my giant baby forever💖💖💖
20 minute long facts in fiction video .. perfect for my lunch break ty🫶
He's a dance teacher lmao and you can see his dance videos He's incredible everyone knows he's the best dancer
@@Nob-j3m yea, but it can cause some confusion to people that are both non-dancer and non-fans.
Wow this is the second dance rank vid where Zhang Hao is ranked 4, so proud of him!
I hope zerobaseone can see this video to know what their lacks☺️I really like your analysis 😉
great and detailed video as always! would you ever consider analyzing non-idol dancers in the Korean entertainment scene? Like Vata or Lia Kim?
Maybe when SWF season two airs 🤔
@@facts_in_fiction oooo
Actually surprised about yujin in 5th, since he is considered the second best dancer in zb1 and is part of the dancing line which Hao isn’t part of, but loved the list, you are right about experience ❤❤
Pd: our baby Gunwook is really a golden all rounder, he probably is in the top 3 of every category (dance, rap and vocal)
Sung Hanbin I'm so proud of you❤
Gunwook number one, he's just overall amazing to watch.
Finally a ranking I agree with.
i was waiting for someone to make this video tyy
i’ve watched a few of ur videos and you never fail to impress me w both ur knowledge and attention to detail!! along w the editing i find ur videos very enjoyable ^^
i always thought it was so strange how the boys planet producers glorified certain members as Dancers while completely ignoring others. this video was so refreshing in comparison. extremely based and unbiased.
Girl i love you alr , make this viral asap!
i loved this video
Good analysis
For me i think hanbin gunwook yujin are the best dancers anyway thanks for your video
Those are the best to me too
Hello, I love your video analysis❤
Could you do kep1er when their next comeback happen
I was thinking about it
Omg, everything you said about jiwoong i was like hold on a second, i think i dance the exact same way as him for better or for worse.
Basically we need to add groove to all 4th gen boy groups skill set haha
my opinion:
hanbin
matthew
gunwook
yujin
zanghao
jiwoong
gyuvin
ricky
taerae
In no way is Hanbin ever better than Jiwoong at dancing bffr
@@Cutis0nhe's number 1 whether you accept it or not who care for you
I appreciate your videos SO much, thank you!!
Oh wow that’s the firet time ive seen anyone rank yujin fifth
Jiwoong was also in another group called INX under a diff stage name if you didnt know :)
Ugh FASCINATING ❤
Ricky is so well
Hiii sorry to bother you with sometbing unrelated but can I ask if you have any plans to do such a video on seventeen? They have so many good dancers that I think it would be really interesting to see! Thank you and btw great video
Yes!
Very interesting, thank you! I know nothing about dance, so I was wondering what people mean when they say "textures", as in 6:28? Thanks!
How the movement feels, for example smooth and soft or fast and strong
@@facts_in_fiction Aah I see, thank you for replying ^^!
Our main dancer sunghanbin❤❤❤❤
Can you do a Seo Taji and boys dance analysis? Goin' back in time!
