Damn I miss that kind of caving. Always an adventure. Stay cool and stay safe, Edward. You’re the best.
That lobster you found is a Cambarus Aculabrum and is a rare species of cave-dwelling crayfish and is critically endagered. In-fact they're only known to be found in four locations and it is federally listed as an endangered species in the US. If you found some you should report them to your local game wardens.

Such an awesome cave system. Tons of pits that take you right into the depths. Very impressive! Would be neat to see a multi day explore of this system.
4:03 consider using diving socks. For 80% of your cave "dives" the knee high length of that waterproof sock will be more than enough to keep water away and on account of being skin tight, even if you do get in deeper water, it will keep most of it off your leg. If you do use a pair, do remember to put lots of baby powder tho. :))
We might think about it, it does seem like they would keep feet warmer. And add some cushion in case we hit our shins against rocks. We at least need some knee high baseball socks or something great idea all around!

We believe the water table used to be higher and a lot of the cave would fill up with water that had passed through the atmosphere and some soil which makes it acidic so it dissolves the rock. Then the water table dropped over time but streams still go into the cave cutting those canyons we are walking though and each drop we had to go down was an area of shale or weaker rock that wore away easily allowing the stream to bore its way though at a lower level.
You can find a mining video using drone and lazer tech for inspection and mapping. Abandoned mine exploration vids will also answer varying geology questions. They are frightening deathtraps chock full of mining history, artifacts and techniques. Amazing Pennsylvania is a big built guy. When you drop pit after pit and are no telling how deep but the cave walls start changing and looking like water frequently rushes thu the narrowing passages all the way to the ceiling of those crawl passages and where they aren't scoured clean there is thick mud that's an environment that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The worst scenario is being that deep, and in a crawl passage (that you can't stand up and run in) and hear the sound and feel the vibration of rushing water. FAST rushing water, COMING! The last rope I drop is the one I'd probably not go too far from unless there was another pit that water could go into. There must be a lowest level where water pools and slowly drains from and thats where I wouldn't want to be. Thanks for taking the time at the end to explain how it ended and peace-out Brother.!
