    I worked on a scalloping boat one summer after I got out of high school. They tried to pay us half our check in crack. Believe it or not a bunch of the guys were super happy about that.

    The coolest thing I learned when diving for scallops is the fact they can swim by clapping. They are wicked tasty when eaten fresh like this too! Nice one 😀

    When I worked in Chicago as an apprentice cook. We’d get these scallops so fresh. They’d fly them in the prep guys clean them. We’d use them that day. I remember the sauté cook cooking one during service it jumped almost two feet in the air he caught it put it back in the pan.

      Me too. I also just ate. But I ate sea scallops. And for the first time in about 20 attempts I finally succeeded in searing them and got a nice caramelization. I dried them on paper towels for about 3 hours before cooking. Previously I have not dried them enough and the water prevented the caramelization. I think I found my technique.

    There is NO better seafood than a raw scallop straight from the shell. They are so tender and sweet it's unbelievable! I've been forever ruined for store bought or restaraunt scallops.

      Swordfish tacos for breakfast, fish just caught - THE BEST! We’d grab 2…. DOZEN!! Every morning they were lucky enough to catch one and the 5 of use would be good until supper.
      Tried to recreate them at home…. 😫😭🤢. Even flash frozen right on the boat it’s not even close. It loses that natural sweetness.

      I'm the same way with store-bought or restaurant lobster tail. Nothing beats catching it yourself and on your plate within that same hour. Now I just won't eat it.

      That's an Atlantic deepsea scallop; different kinds. White, red and white stripes, mud colored. If the two halves are different sizes, that's a Cockle.

    Scallops are f'n delicious!!! A little butter and garlic in a skillet, lightly cook until firm and fluffy, add some tequila and flame up...arrange on plate and drizzle some lime over the top...hush puppies on the side...OH YEAH!!!

    I had no idea that is what they looked like in the shell! That is crazy.
    What else is crazy is how good they are! No fishy taste at all! (I know I know - “why would it have a fishy taste, they are not a fish!)
    Well sometimes crab has a fishy taste 🤷
    So how do you tell the difference between clams and scallops?! And How do you only catch scallops and not clams and vise versa?!?! I just picture two guys in a boat going out to catch scallops and a 1/3rd of the day in “Hey Jim should we just stop trying for scallops and start keeping these clams? We’ll just tell everyone we changed our minds and decided to go for clams instead?! Sounds good Johnny!

    I was a commercial scallop fisherman in the 80s we used to sneak over the Canadian line and get gafers coming in with 30 to 40 thousand pounds

    Usually if you're in the mainland you're actually eating stingray wings cut with a circular cookie cutter.. same taste and same consistency, much cheaper... Keeps better over ice

    I worked at a seafood restaurant called Rusty Scupper in Northern Virginia, Tysons Corner. They used to get the biggest scallops this size and bigger. Early 1980s

    Outside on the barbeque...my wife was cheesed at me the last time I cooked them in the pan in the kitchen. "The smell...the SMELL"!
    She was right...I got up for work the next morning and the reek was still on. A seafood smell THAT strong before breakfast? No bueno.

    Live here in Maine, many family and friends scallop,I've seen em come in pink orange white and off colors, and had a buddy of mine give 30 pounds of huge scallops size of silver dollars
