My buddy knocked my iPad off the table and of course cracked the whole screen so I went with 8th gen. Difference are nothing to stress over, if it never broke I would’ve stayed with the 7 for a long time
I have the iPad 6th gen and I want to upgrade but not sure if it’s worth it. If you don’t have any tablet yet I would say go for the Air 3 because it might feel nicer for longer.
Qimat Swift 6th gen is great I have to no need to waste more money unless you like to spend or u rich. Its just a bit upgrade not really much worth it...
I’ve noticed when taking notes that my 7th gen iPad gets really hot in a particular place (right center of the screen when you keep it in portrait mode). It’s really weird it doesn’t heat up when I’m gaming or watching 1080p youtube @60fps for a long time but somehow just heats up when I’m taking notes. I’ve tried getting rid of all the background apps and even putting it in airplane mode but no effect. It’s not unbearably hot, I can still place my hand on it and continue writing but it does get hot? Do you know anything about this Noah? Does it have anything to do with some machine learning portion of the chip? I’m on iOS 13.7 btw cuz I don’t want to update to 14 yet before they fix all the bugs
@Ansel Zeke thanks but the issue is mostly resolved after iOS 14. It still gets a little warm, but much less than before. I figured that the reason is because that's where the ML Accelerators are. Either way it just doesn't get that warm after the update
No sir A12 based on 7nm tech. So, there will less heat issues and good efficiency than A10 , you can easily feel differce when you play high graphics game for 2-3 hrs
Hey Noah - thanks again for a great video. I think the question should not only be "how much faster is the new device today", rather how much slower the previous device will be after 3-4 major OS updates...
I have ipad7 with A10 and iPad mini5 with A12 ,and I know where the A12 starts to outperform the A10 ,but in day to day use,media consumption,even casual gaming of heavy graphic games, the A10 is honestly good enough. I’d say the outperformance if the A13 which I have in my iPhone 11 more visibly outperforms both on really heavy tasks, despite being the same 7nm like the A12. But over all no matter if you have A10 or A13 or anything in between , for everything currently existing they will handle with ease. And as a person who comes from the android world until soon, they will outperform much newer android devices and won’t slow down like them.

Definitely not! Cos most people buy this iPad for gaming and note taking. Notes doesn't really take much of space. So 32 gb is just enough for those few games and notes. 64gb for base variant wouldn't hurt though.

Im from poland. And in this country is so hard to upgrade device only 1 gen +. Ipad in cheapest configuration cost 420$ (1600zł) 128gb is 547$ (2100zł) and this horible pricing when most ppls work for 3000zł per month. So i just have to buy some locked ipad from ebay for 20$ and another with broken display for 80$ and make 1 from 2. Because buying from shop is nearly impossible especialy for student like me. Prices are higher in US etc. So from my point of view its not worth to upgrade ;)
I wish apple would have at least reduced the bezels or added a laminate screen, true color or a static home button like on the iPhone 7... I don’t understand the point in introducing a whole new iPad with the only real difference being a new chip. The iPad mini 5 still beats the iPad 8. The only plus is they didn’t jack up the price.
Big PP true, but the iPad was Apple’s original style, not always a budget model. I suppose many were expecting they would bring it up to speed if they were bothering to come out with a new model. It would have probably come at a higher price but would have had more features. Disappointing that they would release a model that’s nearly identical to the previous. I've had the Air 3 since last Oct, It's a great tablet and i'm sure the same can be said about the 8 gen. Apple makes great tablets at all price points.
I wanted an Ipad for reading ncbi papers and textbooks without investing money on a printer but on a student ipad (not only study work but entertainment too). Unfortunately, I can't even afford that price i.e. Rs. 29,900 (INR)! 😅😅 Anyways Love from Tripura, India.

Depending on your model you have, you can get a good amount for trade in credit and just pay the difference. That’s what I did. The a12 will better future proof it and I think it’s a smart idea. The a10 is nice but the a12 will be good for a few more years.
It’s weird about the Touch ID. you’re the second person to notice it. On apple’s website, it doesn’t mention it’s the second generation. Maybe the processor processes it a little bit more. I traded in my iPad 7th gen to the 8th Gen because I just got it. It should have had the a12 last year.

I sold my 7th gen ipad to get the Samsung tab s5e , i dont need a power house of a device that lacks features, i think for media consumption the s5e is a much better value becauseof its screen and speakers
The wife just bought me the ipad gen8 128gb, i tell you what its the best thing ive ever used, after all the money i wasted in the past trying to find an android tablet with decent performance to use music productivity applications im so glad i have this wonderful computer, this ipad is faster than all of them put together for this purpose, to get a windows laptop with this performance you are talking at least £600, garageband is up there with being the best music making instrument ever, even the sounds are free to download too. As a very picky person i have not found a single issue with this, its bloody brilliant.
I'm not an apple fanboy but I'm an entry level ipad fanboy. This video just proves how good iPads are. Even way better than similarly priced laptops. I'm going to stick with my 7th gen because I'm doing stuff a pro model can do although it will take me a bit more time. Plus the apps on iPad OS are phenomenal for creative work.
@@JasleenKaur-io1us I got the 32gb at launch but the screen cracked and I traded it in for an iphone. Then I got the 128gb later. However, I was managing when I had the 32gb because I used the dongles to connect SSD drives for video and photo editing. I think it's much cheaper to get the base storage and get an SSD if you're doing work because you can use the SSD on other devices. However the process is a bit longer.

Have both the iPad Mini and the iPad Mini 5. While the 5 is clearly faster, the original version works very well for most tasks. Don't think most people need to upgrade very often.
I love the mini 5 but picking up an I pad 8 today so I can compare screen sizes again. I use I pad for everything. No lap top at all. I can get around £280 for the mini but being as bonkers as I am I might keep both. Same chip in them but the larger pad will provide a much better typing experience I hope. The most your comparison presentations always impress me is how well you can use both hands! You could have been a great volleyball setter if you are not!! And you made me go and look for refurbished 7th gen :D
He's left-handed, but society caters to right-handed people, so he's probably had a large amount of experience working on the dexterity of his right-hand. When he does the doodling (or "shading"?) test, you can see that his left side shades much more evenly with freer flow. That was the initial clue that he was left-handed. Then later when he wrote words, you saw that he only did it with his left hand. But he does a night job reviewing products and actually having an opinion rather than just leaving up to you to try to figure out what you saw. I will watch more of his reviews in the future.
Yo those Geekbench scores are insane! I’m still running my 2015 12.9” iPad Pro, the OG haha I am on iPadOS 14 but with the A9X my Geekbench is about 650 Single-Core and 1200 Multi-Core so that budget iPad with the A12 is legit double the performance of my Pro! 😐 haha The non laminated screen is a big drawback for me having used my laminated screen for so long, otherwise I would probably upgrade to that for the cost! Very detailed comparison. But you really seem to be pushing the 8th gen. That placebo effect really has you confused. I don't care about #'s some web site or app pulls out. The real difference is in everyday real world use. It's pretty clear based on your own test, there's barely any difference. Your own test results differ from your opinion. Did you even watch your video. Again, difference was barely noticable. It was almost comical how the results we're not what you expected. My guess is it all has to do with optimization.

People confuse the a10 with old and weak. Its old its not weak. Its better than most android midrange and upper midrange chips

I can’t afford it too. I can save up for it but it will take me more than a year and it would cost me all of my savings. I don’t think it’s worth it for me unless I get a better source of income.

I've had the Air 3 since last Oct, It's a great tablet and i'm sure the same can be said about the 8 gen. Apple makes great tablets at all price points.

Depending on your model you have, you can get a good amount for trade in credit and just pay the difference. That’s what I did. The a12 will better future proof it and I think it’s a smart idea. The a10 is nice but the a12 will be good for a few more years.
It’s weird about the Touch ID. you’re the second person to notice it. On apple’s website, it doesn’t mention it’s the second generation. Maybe the processor processes it a little bit more. I traded in my iPad 7th gen to the 8th Gen because I just got it. It should have had the a12 last year.
If they released iPad 7 with A12 chip on 2019, it will canibalize iPad air 3 sales

I sold my 7th gen ipad to get the Samsung tab s5e , i dont need a power house of a device that lacks features, i think for media consumption the s5e is a much better value becauseof its screen and speakers

The wife just bought me the ipad gen8 128gb, i tell you what its the best thing ive ever used, after all the money i wasted in the past trying to find an android tablet with decent performance to use music productivity applications im so glad i have this wonderful computer, this ipad is faster than all of them put together for this purpose, to get a windows laptop with this performance you are talking at least £600, garageband is up there with being the best music making instrument ever, even the sounds are free to download too. As a very picky person i have not found a single issue with this, its bloody brilliant.

I'm not an apple fanboy but I'm an entry level ipad fanboy. This video just proves how good iPads are. Even way better than similarly priced laptops. I'm going to stick with my 7th gen because I'm doing stuff a pro model can do although it will take me a bit more time. Plus the apps on iPad OS are phenomenal for creative work.
Which storage iPad do you have? I am confused between 64 GB Air 4 and128 GB 8th gen.
@@JasleenKaur-io1us I got the 32gb at launch but the screen cracked and I traded it in for an iphone. Then I got the 128gb later. However, I was managing when I had the 32gb because I used the dongles to connect SSD drives for video and photo editing. I think it's much cheaper to get the base storage and get an SSD if you're doing work because you can use the SSD on other devices. However the process is a bit longer.

The real difference will come down to longevity. The a12 bionic is a lot more future proof than a10.

Have both the iPad Mini and the iPad Mini 5. While the 5 is clearly faster, the original version works very well for most tasks. Don't think most people need to upgrade very often.
I love the mini 5 but picking up an I pad 8 today so I can compare screen sizes again. I use I pad for everything. No lap top at all.
I can get around £280 for the mini but being as bonkers as I am I might keep both. Same chip in them but the larger pad will provide a much better typing experience I hope. Which I pad to choose .......the stresses of modern life cheers from London

When he does the doodling (or "shading"?) test, you can see that his left side shades much more evenly with freer flow. That was the initial clue that he was left-handed. Then later when he wrote words, you saw that he only did it with his left hand.
But he does a night job reviewing products and actually having an opinion rather than just leaving up to you to try to figure out what you saw. I will watch more of his reviews in the future.

Yo those Geekbench scores are insane! I’m still running my 2015 12.9” iPad Pro, the OG haha I am on iPadOS 14 but with the A9X my Geekbench is about 650 Single-Core and 1200 Multi-Core so that budget iPad with the A12 is legit double the performance of my Pro! 😐 haha The non laminated screen is a big drawback for me having used my laminated screen for so long, otherwise I would probably upgrade to that for the cost! Very detailed comparison. But you really seem to be pushing the 8th gen. That placebo effect really has you confused. I don't care about #'s some web site or app pulls out. The real difference is in everyday real world use. It's pretty clear based on your own test, there's barely any difference. Your own test results differ from your opinion. Did you even watch your video. Again, difference was barely noticable. It was almost comical how the results we're not what you expected. My guess is it all has to do with optimization.
