    I want to take up literature degree, and even though I'm just a sophomore, I'm really nervous and anxious about joining university especially from a country where it's easy to be judged and criticised to pick English as a major, so I have about fifty information videos on my watch later playlist😬😅

I finished my BA English degree in 2013 and it doesn’t look like the reading lists have changed all that much 😂 The Woman in White was such a good read! I did a literature + theatre degree in France, and i feel like a cheat. I know I wasn't always the most attentive student, but I feel like we haven't learnt anything, compared to everything you mentioned! There were lots more exams and text analysis than essays (the latter being way more motivating and efficient in terms of learning for me),! I wish I could've done it in England instead (but in an old campus, obviously! I need the architecture).
    Now Ashleigh, I think I need a video where you give us a summary of all of those theories you've studied in Jane Eyre! You've whetted my appetite there (or if you know of a good ressource where I could find this). I'd love to be able to do more than gush about this wonderful book! haha!

    • @DragonHeart29
      @DragonHeart29 3 года назад +7

      France is more of a "textbook system" when it comes to education. They tend to teach you how to check all the boxes to do good in exams but not to think out of the box (at least that's how my experience was)

    This video hurts my heart a little bit, because all these classics you mentioned and these intense focuses on literary theory are what I EXPECTED my literature degree to be like, but instead i just hated 80% of what I read and I feel like I didn't learn any theory. I've actually been missing academia and analysing literature SO much but I can't imagine studying further in South Africa because I feel like it's just going to more of the same😒
