yes, we could drink at 18, we had smoking areas at high school, and we were there was more freedom in this country for everyone that has ever been or will ever be again. everything was simple compared to now, and look at the music from the 70's, it reflects the way of life then
I didn't get to see the Rolling Stones till 1981 and it was much calmer than this concert, this Altamont concert is way too crazy for me. Hell's Angels as their security was a bad idea!
The killing actually occured during "Under My Thumb" and was caught on camera and shown in the film "Gimme Shelter", but it became an urban legend that it happened during "Sympathy." "Sympathy" was taken out of the set for a few years, but that was as much because of all the new material from "Sticky Fingers" and "Exile On Main Street" as anything else. There are several books on Altamont, but the ones by Stanley Booth and Sam Cutler stand out, as they were both there at ground zero as it happened.
Sympathy for the Devil is played at every Stones concert, I've seen it played at least nine times. You two should go see the Stones live they are still on tour and still great.
Was there. We were close to the Hells Angels school bus loaded with cases of beer. Had a great time partying. To far away to really see what was going on up front. Had our black primo hash, lsd, and southern comfort.
Check out the performance of this song from Rock n Roll Circus if you want to see a different better take. This one at Altamont is just too crazy....plus I was about 8 years old at the time of this concert!!
This was the tragic end of the 60s love and peace era. Tragic. Everything went after this. It was bad after the Manson murders but this was the ultimate low. I was a child of the 60s and this affected all of us badly. It was almost as if we saw the writing on the wall. Lots of big name artists refused to go on stage even before this happened because they could sense the way things were heading. Play this song live where the audience are just there to enjoy it.
Perhaps a bit culturocentric, there's more than a little USA bubble... E.g who or what is "the Manson murders". Not on my school reading list. And some dickhead dies at a concert, ...
This concert exposed that all the drugs and free love had consequences. Overdoses and violence come along with those things and this concert just had bad vibes all around Mick got knocked cold getting off the helicopter by some kid then throw in the Hells Angels and you have total chaos. As it turns out Woodstock was the exception not the norm when you had crowds this big and are loaded on all kinds of substances. By 1970 bands like Black Sabbath and the Alice Cooper group came along to put a stake into the heart of the love and peace generation.
right wing propaganda - mason murders were not any worse than any other mass killings that happened through out US history - i was alive so you cannot bs me with this crap - go away trump supporter
The stones hired the english version of hell's angel for their Hyde Park concert in last July of 69 and it all went smoothly...and the idea of hiring the hell's angels for Alramont came from the Grateful dead !
there was no hippy dream to fail - hells angels and manson were right wingers they were not hippies - most anti war people were not hippies - do not bs me with your right wing propaganda - i was alive in the 60s -
When the Angel whispered in Mick's ear, I always imagined that whatever The Angel said, Mick kinda paused a second and then resumed dancing more like a rooster than ever, and it's the most Dionysian thing I've ever seen. If you watch the documentary you might see what I see. you might not. I think Meredith Hunter was trying to put the gun down and maybe did and then tried to run but was murdered instead. I think he was set up but a jury found the Angel who stabbed him not guilty. I think that's complete bullshit. Meredith Hunter was black and 19. Hell's Angels are racist. Do the math. Great reaction. Y'all's vibes are excellent and your tastes are good.
Remember that this was a free concert and the crowd was far too large to manage. The Angels were a mistke in that they themselves were violent and unsuited to crowd control.
The stones had used the hells angels in England for security but the English version was very tame compared to the California angels they asked Jerry Garcia about using them as the dead had in the past Jerry warned them and when the problems at alimont started and Marty Balin got knocked out Jerry and the dead turned around and went home !
The establishment won out, especially in politics and popular culture ... temporarily I hope. People need to look back towards the Native Americans again for when "America was great." Mother Earth needs to guide us again, not FoxNews and corporate 'merica.
You guys on acid? lol Sorry but music won't set you free, especially songs like Sympathy. Free love & all that shit felt groovy,, but finally the party's over, & as Jim Morrison sung, "Turn out the lights." ☄

Rolling Stones are and will always remain rock gods and rock legends 🫶🔥🔥🔥

I was going to say, they never played it again, until the next time they did!
Yep. They’ve done it every time I’ve seen them.
These Beatles... idiots....!
Give them a break. They are just reading a commentary on google. Of course we all know they started to play it in 77. Love You Liv e
The stones were awesome

the 70's was a very good time for rock and pop music 😍you both could fit in 🤔
Maybe they can fit in with the cockroach Beatles... not with the Stones!!!
Check out the marquee club performances.
Young mick at his "slinkiest" best 😁
Mick says something bad always happens when they play that number...
Then they play it again.
The movie Gimme Shelter has more about the Altamont concert. Definitely worth watching.

The old good Rolling Stones🤘
The song has since returned to their concerts
Maybe do a reaction to the whole doc. It's a brilliant incite into the band and the times.
Guys, this is the sixties. But I reckon the pair of you are loaded.
It all started in The Summer Of Love, 1967.
When after all, it was you and me
the official lyric video is best 👍
No it's not. SFTD never got better than the 69-70 live versions.
@@warager4753blah blah blah, your opinion
You need to look at the Glastonbury festival all styles of music with all ages of people having fun

The Manson murders put the final nail in the coffin of the failed hippy dream, this concert put it in the ground.

a concert that signaled the End of the 60s
She's a keeper😂
been there done that

Hells Angels threatened everyone including the Rolling Stones.
They knocked out Marty Balin of the airplane
@@rickhorn9609 Wow, what a stupid idea to have Hell's Angels for security. Crazy!!
Thats the late 60s, not really considered 70s.
End of the flower power-era...

This was 1969 -- not the seventies.
Typical Stones, hired Hells Angels for Security, paid them with beer & drugs ?
You did pick the worst version of this song. that was a concert that most rock an rollers would like to forget
Beautiful couple, but bet they will vote for Harris ?
For god's sake, stop saying "seventies", you were watching the "sixties"......
😅

When playing this song the hell's angels killed a black man.
They killed a man. I don't know if his colour is relevant...
What's the color got to do with anything?😊
Don't believe everything you read. They performed this both times I seen them.
Do a strict minimum of research please, before saying stuff: it was in 1969!

Why would you choose the live version? Ugh.... it's soooo awful lol... its not even the same song.... nice reaction tho...
Awful? Are you nuts? Go back to Taylor. She misses you.
Don’t watch then…this song is all over RUclips
the tamer version is the one from Rock n Roll Circus from England. Mick takes his shirt off...
