Man I’ve never left a RUclips comment in my life but I’ve just tested every relay and fuse -related and unrelated, and gone down every possible rabbit hole of why my heat and ac aren’t working just hoping I wouldn’t have to pull the dash out but here I am 3 hours and and 6 beers deep and your video just helped me confirm exactly what part I need to get this working again! Whacked the actuator while changing from cool to heat and watched the cam move and finally the heat kicked on. Can’t wait to go buy a new actuator and get this fixed, thank you!
This video literally helped fix a lot of stress, wife just got back from a trip and heater stopped working, with your video I was able to get it fixed . Thanks for the content
BRO! Thank you so much for this. I was just told the same exact thing from my mechanic that it would be a huge project to take apart the entire dash and $1300 and 8 hours of labor. I literally went and tapped that part and turned this problem into a $27, 45 minute fix! Thank you so much for this.
Thanks so much! Was able to get it changed out in less than a half hour! I didn't screw it in until I moved the dial between heat and air to make sure it was all working right. Those screws were a pain but I used the same tools you did to get at them. Saved me a ton of time by covering all the bases in your video!! Thanks again!
You are correct. The driver side controls the direction and passenger controls the temperature. I lost the temperature control a month before I lost the direction control. Replaced the directional one and it wasn’t too bad. The temp control leaves it really hot or cold. No in between at all. This will be the next one. Thanks for the video!
Thanks man. Got my heat going. My first attempt I just had hot and less hot. I definitely recommend holding the actuator there in its correct spot and testing before screwing back in the torx screws. Reaching up in the hole the actuator covered and manually moving the blend door to heat and setting the actuator to heat(plugged in but not installed) made it install right and work for me. The white cam piece came off with the actuator for me so it made installation pretty confusing and allowed me to install it wrong on first try.
Thanks, I also saw videos that showed what explained actuator being on the driver's side and the other underneath the top console speaker, I suspected that there had to be one on passenger side because I could hear a noise on that side when it tries to wk, thanks sir!
2016 F150 3.5 Turbo Lariat was not blowing air cold or hot through dash and defrost vents. Used this video and not being short or small enough I also removed the driver's seat 4x 13mm to make more room. Fantastic fix can not thank you enough.
@@rafacordero8862 ruclips.net/video/1ZYCplT3bdw/видео.html he mentions it at this timestamp. If the vents aren't switching between face/floor/defrost then it's likely the driver side actuator. FL3Z-19E616-A part number. I have the same problem as yours and I'm hoping that's the fix.
Nice job , just picked up a Motorcraft actuator from my local ford parts place for $30 and will be putting it in when its above freezing. There was / is some questions about letting the new actuator "sync" so I will be plugging it in and letting it hang lose then starting the vehicle , turn on the heater controls and let it do its thing then installing it.
Thanks for the great explanation. I have a 2016, single climate control, but without the center console so my dash looks a bit different. The confusion on which actuator does what is most helpful with the drivers side controlling where it blows and the passenger side controlling the temperature. The issue Im seeing is the same as you. Stuck on blowing cold air, but Im in WI and its winter so this is a must fix.
Dude thank you. Having the same issue sometimes it’s stuck on cold sometimes it’s stuck on heat. Was about to tear into the dash rather than the passenger side.
To make diagnosing which door you need to replace simpler, a mode door actuator controls the flow position, i.e. floor, vent, defrost. a blend door actuator changes the temperature, cold to hot and vise versa. a recirc door actuator will change between fresh air and recirculated air. also, a recirc door actuator will almost always be very close to the blower motor itself.
Yes I believe so, if you have the dual zone control feature then I believe your culprit would be the actuator behind the middle vent inside the dash. It's much more difficult to access but it is possible and I have seen some videos that walk you through it. Good luck!
@@Zazu309 so I actually completed this fix yesterday and it ended up being the same one you replaced. Which I was relieved about and did not have to go through the vent.
I had no air coming out of the defrost. Changed the gas pedal side acuator and now I only have air coming out of the defrost and big vents. Anyone know how to fix this? Reset of sone sort.
my issue is the exact opposite to yours ....mine has the heat going on rather than cold ...ill assume that its the same actuator....i do not have the dual temp control...mine is like yours....do you think that this is the only one that could be defective ....crossing fingers...let me know what you think...much appreciated sir
I would venture to say yes, it's probably the same actuator that's the problem. It just got stuck in the heat position, rather than the cold. Hopefully, you'll be able to get it figured out.
Hi there! I have watched so many videos and I'm still trying to clarify as I'm finding conflicting information. My situation is that my passenger side vents are only blowing cold...and that's not a good time as winter is here in CO and it's cold outside! It sounds like this was your situation, is that correct? And this fixed it? I am watching another video who is saying for this problem, it will be the actuator behind the center console?!? I just bought the part and I'd like to tackle it myself, but I don't want to go through all this and it's the wrong one! I do have dual control so there's that info as well. I'd appreciate any info to help clarify! Thanks so much!
So from what I understand, the dual zone actuator is the most difficult one to gain access to because it is behind where the stereo is. It is still possible, though. It does sound like your situation calls for replacement of that actuator, however, if you were willing, you could try replacing the actuator I changed in this video just to see if that were the issue. Or at least try to look at it to see if you can see it engage when you make adjustments with the controls. Just to rule out what could be an easier fix...
@@Zazu309 Thanks for replying! I just relistened to your video and realized that your truck is not dual zone. I must have been confused with another video. Ugh, yeah, it sounds like the one I need is behind the vent which apparently is doable, but difficult as you can't see what you're doing and it's a really tight space. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this one on my own, but I'll try it when I have more time. Thanks for your help! :)
Unfortunately I can't answer that question. I'd imagine it's a similar setup though. The actuators might just be in slightly different locations. Sorry I can't be a better help
"Calibration" I'm not too sure of. I was told, however, if you turn the temp control knob all the way to either temp and then just adjust the white cam until it aligns correctly. Hopefully that helps...
I replaced the mode door actuator this summer. It wasn’t easy and getting it to the correct position took a lot of trial and error. Today the blender door broke. At least it’s stuck on hot. It’s December. This looks a a little easier I hope. I did purchase the bumper to bumper extended warranty so I might check with the dealer. These broke within a year of each other. Obviously cheap design.
Great information I'm about to change the driver side one. Glad to know if my heat stops that will be my first stop. $1000 😂😂😂 thats what i was told came home RUclipsd the problem 30 min. And $25 later problem solved. These people are criminals.

Watched your video and my f-150 had the same exact issue. Literally a 15 minute fix because it took me 10 minutes to find my 1/4" wrench...

This video saved me $1-$2k. Took me 15 minutes to change the blend door actuator after the mechanic told me the entire dash would have to come out.
What a bunch of scumbags.
Nice work brother 🏆

This is the driver’s side temp control. The passenger side temp control is on top of the heater box directly above the driver’s side control actuator.
You the man! Having same issue. Watching this video helped me!

Awesome video. I had no AC...fixed the problem. Except my screw head was a T15 on my 2016 XLT 5.0

lol The things they change between different models 🤔. Glad you were able to get it fixed!
Thanks for the video man totally fixed my truck too

Had the exact same issue with my 2017. Thankfully I had an extended warranty……$800 from the dealership….$100 deductible and I was gone.

I have the same symptoms you describe, I'm hoping this is my problem. So, how do you test the actuator to know that's the issue?
I think I see how to test it now. I'll check out to see if that white piece rotates to determine if it's actually broken. Thanks for the video
Yea getting eye's on that white mechanism is your best bet. Hopefully you get it figured out 🤞
Mine is just blowing from defrost not from dash vents
Wich one you think it is
Its a F150 2016
King ranch
If you can help me please🙏🏽
It sounds like yours is most likely the actuator on the driver side. Assuming you don't have the zone AC feature?
The AC is ok working good just not blowing from dash so
It's taking for ever to get cold inside
Yeah I would check the actuator on the Driver side. I believe it is fairly accessible from under the dash just above the pedals.
@@Zazu309 Thank you very much I will
I just broke the mount for the top of the white piece
That sucks..... not sure what part you'll need or how difficult that'll be to fix, but good luck
Thanks for the video you saved me a ton of money! And your voice is hot
Is it also the same for 2013 f 150?
