When this tracker was introduced the first thing I told my husband is how someone could be tracked without knowing it. I bet private investigators love this device.
Difference between this and past trackers is Apple made this one talk to others devices to let them know they are being tracked. Question is how many people are being tracked with devices that aren’t telling you it’s tracking you. Apple just makes it obvious you’re being tracked without your knowledge
This is just one of a long line of them, before that there was Tile, and if I recall there were other types of trackers. I thought those were extremely useful to put on keychains so you could find the lost keys, or in another case, just knowing where your kid is. It's not all nefarious. In my opinion, it's a great way to keep your kid protected; if someone does try to take them, as long as they have their keys or whatever these devices are attached to, they can be recovered unharmed. A bad buy will know to throw away a cell phone, everyone knows those can track, but will they know about these little button-shaped things?
Why can't they just solve this using software? Like when they notify you that your being tracked, give the option to stop your devices from communicating with the airtag.
Because the air tag does not need your device to communicate with it. It is the person who placed it in your car whose device is tracking the location of the air tag. What would be the point of you stopping communication with the air tag?
@@14thegr8 No. the AirTag connects to the Bluetooth of any nearby apple devices then updates its location. In other words it’s crowdsourced and depends on other peoples devices to track its location. It doesn’t have its own GPS

However, there is so much misinformation in this story. Some of it is correct but some of it is incorrect. They need to rerun the story with corrected information.
If they have an iphone 12 or later they can find the precise location of the airtag. your typical shop won't know this unless they take the simple step of researching it and finding someone with a 12 pro or 13 pro to help locate it. Maybe the best bet is to take the car to an apple store and an apple employee with one of those devices can help you find it. You can also deactivate the airtag from your phone and when found remove the battery. Apple can trace the airtag to the apple id it belongs to and identify who has been tracking you and take steps to arrest them if it's a crime to do so in the area where the airtag was found.
You could download an app that picks up Bluetooth or any sorta connections around your phone . It goes from 0percent to 100 percent the closer you get to that device ! And it doesn’t have to be connected to your phone .
Tracking devices have been available for 20 years or more. There are also ways to track another person through their cell phone if they have your cell number.

Well the supposedly "correct" way to use this tech is to put it inside your suitcase, in your car, so that if your stuff is stolen then "you" can track it. This could easily be mitigated by Apple creating a feature to disable the tracking device.
The only catch is if they are used the way Apple intended them to be used, disabling them will stop genuine users from being able to locate and recover their mislaid property.
Apple should have initiated an option for unwanted tracking just like what they did to 3rd party apps. If your iphone detected unregistered air tags their should be an option to allow or not allow tracking.
Under the battery
I believe the question was how is this not illegal and Deborah changed the subject Ron what she thought was cute find the gadget activity and only redirected later. Netter if everyone were not talking over each other. More info needed on this so longer segment in future.
I love the reporter that really wanted to be an actor. Trying as hard to look like a detective. TV is fun. We laught at RUclipsrs but TV is just priceless storytelling lmao
Take the thing, tag the next out of state (commercial) truck and lead the stalker on a 5000 mile journey 😄
Wtf did they think they’d be used for lol
They knew but profit over people is the ace card.
I mean mines on my dogs and keys.. and wallet……..
@@whoknows6918 so you’re stalking your dog?
If your iPhone detects an unknown AirTag, go to a police station. Safer there than leading a stalker to your home.
Yeah there is nothing legally you can do but let me find out who the tracker is turn the tables on the mug and it won’t end well for them.
theyre just waitin for ur vehicle to be in a vulnerable spot or location, so they can swipe it.. theyre just waitin for u to drop ur guard.. and u WILL drop ur guard.. and when u do.. "SWIPE!" ur car is gone!
Will Apple pull these items? All this talk. And there other devices that been available
Pishhh…Most people are so uninteresting to everyone else , they wish they were cool enough to be “tracked” . This should not effect most of us losers.
How do you even protect yourself from this?
Air tags can be good if some steals your car . A cheap low jack
AirTags are great to track your vehicle if it gets stolen.
Unless the thief has an iPhone to alert him, then he finds the device and puts it on another car and you chase the wrong car.
@@sarahdeshay1394 You can actually remove the speaker on the AirTags and make it really hard for the thief to find it. That’s what I did to mine. 😃
I will never use an AirTag like that
ok well android needs to add that feature as well.
Now you just gave more people ideals to do!!!
OMG With THAT pageant hair, the reporter wins Miss Georgia for this week!!
99.99 percent of the time it isn’t someone tracking you but it is your own AirTag or someone else’s who’s been traveling with you
Anyone actually wanting to track you isn’t going to use an AirTag 🤣
Few suggestions…..
It works on Blue Tooth/ Wi-Fi/Mobile Data ….
Just keep it off , when you don’t use it.
Rather, every App technology uses the basic code of Tracking .
Don’t worry, if you aren’t mischievous …..
It’s up to you how to use knife… for a good deed or ….
Prevention is better than …..
This thing runs on bluetooth, which is only good for 30 ft. How does one track this from a distance????
What's that song they led into the story with? I know it but I can't place it!!
So what if my wife has an android? She’s out of luck?
Yep
The moment this product was released is an automatic red flag for consumers at risk of stalkers.
Sue apple for selling these and not installing a failsafe too prevent this
What is the name of the ios app that can detect Air tag??
Who tracks a pillow?
There magnetic 4g gps trackers that can last for weeks and do the same thing but much accurately and are very cheap.
Did Lisa Guerrero just leave the club to go cover this story ?🤣🤣🤣 Omg
😂😂😂😂😂😂 you recognized her too!!!!!!
It's unbelievable how lightly the panel is taking this serious issue. Laughing together when the second person found the tag on his chair? They should have brought up the potential criminal uses of Apple AirTags like tracking minor children for kidnapping opportunities, pushing elected officials for promise of actions, putting the tags on the exterior of such people's cars and later tell them nothing illegal done to see how they react, etc.... anything but laughing.
I love how the iPhone safety feature is shown on an android
4:42 what would possess you to think that was an OK thing to say on tv?
RF detector?
Deborah still got it. #goat
How is this NOT illegal for ANY reason?
Alarmists.
I think the solution is make a law that it possible for those effect by this device sue the manufactorers.
Why does Apple feel like the world and their impact only happens in IOS and not Android for this crap.
Consumer protection laws. Common hardware laws need to be placed. And open source ALL SOFTWARE. all software should have open source code
