You should colab with Jomboy and make a “stats that dont matter” video. Bet you’d get his interest with Odor being the most to hit the wall by a yankee playing rn
Oh sweetie you forgot about Gallow, Sanchez, Stanton. Why does Brett Gardner have to pull up his adult diaper & constantly be the most consistent yet under-valued player on that team? You'd think you guys could have a functional out field after buying every below .500 team's best players.. maybe its the crew cuts, arrogance & having a big purse to throw at your issues instead of building an adequate farm system..🤔
@@doctorstrainlove6318 What the hell are you talking about? I made a harmless comment about Odor and you just want to start problems for no reason lmao. Also your generic hating lunch box quote of Gardner is completely wrong. Judge and Stanton are at the top of the team in batting average, homeruns, RBI’s, OBP, slugging, OPS, hits, and doubles. They’re also the top in at bats (546 + 507) while Gardner as only gone to the plate 384 times. Gary Sanchez is #8 in fielding and 4th in homeruns by a catcher. Our Farm is doing just fine with Luis Gil having an ERA of 3.07 and was an American Rookie All-Star in his league, Mike King is already a main contributor in the relief rotation and will most likely be brought into the playoffs with us, Loáisiga has a 2.21 era in 69 innings, I dont even need to say anything about Jasson Dominguez.
I was at most of Adley Rutschman's games in Double-A Bowie this season. He's technically a switch hitter but does better as a lefty. I think if anyone can do it, Adley can hit the warehouse.
Bryce Harper might have more of a shot if he didn't play his whole career with NL clubs (WAS, PHI). He still plays a few games there during interleague play, but it's not enough opportunity.
there is one other factor.. the warehouse itself working as a wind inhibitor.. a breeze blowing out to right field is great and all..but that breeze hits the warehouse likely creates a deadzone.. meaning the balls get the nice boost while still in the park.. but there's kind of a crosswind killing the balls velocity the closer it gets to the warehouse
That's a great question FivePoints! Thanks for this coming from a lifelong Orioles fan. I long for 2014 Camden. But I know our time is coming. 2023 or 2024 is our year!
Ken Griffy JR. Christened the new ballpark with the hardest, most technically difficult HR in its history. Nobody since has hit the warehouse. That's an indicator of his luck, talent, and skills.
This was fascinating! Be neat to see a series of this sort of thing, like how many shots have gone OVER the Green Monster, how many shots have broken Skydome (Rogers Center) hotels windows, stuff like that.
Batted balls have also flown clear out of entire states. In 2004 Adam Dunn hit a 500+ ft HR out of Great American Ballpark that ended up in the Ohio river, which is technically part of Kentucky.
I had a chance to watch a game at Camden Yards a couple of years ago, which doesn't happen often because I live in the Pacific NW and don't travel much. Beautiful place to watch a game. I even watched Aaron Judge hit a moonshot home run to straightaway center field in that game. IIRC, that bomb was one of the three longest of the 62 home runs Judge hit that year. (I think Judge has hit more home runs at Camden Yards than at any other stadium away from the Bronx.)
If Bonds had signed with Tampa Bay in 2008, he'd have done it. Even at the end, with his skills not quite at his one time peak, he was still a MONSTER.
Going to Camden is one of the greatest experiences for any fan. I have the luxury of living in the same city as an Orioles fan. Just need the team to quit sucking
I saw the title before clicking the video and thought to myself, I could have sworn I watched a homerun Derby back in the day where players hit the wearhouse. I then clicked the video and it opened up with it lol. Glad I'm not going crazy.
Yeah, the field is 14 feet elevation, Eutaw Street is 33 feet elevation, and the overhang attached to the B&O Warehouse is 15 feet above Eutaw Street. Therefore, the ball still has to be 48 feet in altitude, or nearly 35 feet above the baseball field's elevation, when it approaches the warehouse to clearly hit it. That implies a projected distance at least near 500 feet is required.
@@Veganerd_ Fair point. I didn't account for the ball possibly having a steep angle upon impacting the warehouse. Which is very relevant for targets that require moderately high launch angles. Griffey's homer hit the warehouse just right of the Warehouse C logo, so the homer aligns with the middle of the flag court. In terms of pure horizontal distance, the ball traveled about 435 feet before hitting the warehouse. Given the projected distance was 465 feet, it's implicit that the ball would've traveled an additional 30 horizontal feet if its flight was allowed to continue and hit hypothetical ground with same elevation as home plate. As the ball was about 35 feet above home plate with just 30 feet of horizontal distance remaining, it must've had a pretty steep down angle of near 50° upon impact.
@@Veganerd_ don't they measure HR distance purely on horizontal displacement? That is, a 470-foot HR that lands on the upper deck in one stadium is more impressive than a 470-foot HR than touches down on Waveland Avenue outside Wrigley Field. I think the legendary Pujols HR off Lidge in the 2005 NLCS was only estimated to be like 406 feet, but that's because there was nowhere else for the ball to travel in Minute Maid.
Funny story, when i was stationed at Andrews AFB, i see plenty of games and watched Ripken Jr play his last season. The Orioles had a commercial of Jay Gibbions hitting the warehouse and breaking windows. It was a funny commercial. If you go on a tour of Camden Yards they say that the weather prevents the ball from hitting the warehouse.
I think if we had another HR Derby at Camden Yards it would get hit a lot more than just once. The HR derby has evolved a lot since the '90s, guys hit way more home runs and way farther home runs during modern home run derbies.
I remember when they built it and I think for the first few years they kept the windows covered thinking they would be hit. Then realized it wasn't going to happen. It is awesome to walk down through there and see the spots marked where HR ball land.
Man, I almost got a hand on that Berkman home run, I was loading up my face outside of Boog's when it came soaring over and bounced off the warehouse. Heard firsthand from a couple of people that Walter Young (who still may be the heaviest guy to ever play MLB?) hit it in BP while he was with the Orioles in 2005.
My dad can tell you how much I despise the O's, but the stadium is Oriole Park at Camden Yards. When it was built, no one wanted Camden Yards name to go away (people were upset Memorial Stadium was being torn down). I remember stories about how many times they thought it was going to be hit and, if I recall right, the first three floors don't have glass windows in that section. 30 some years and it seems fitting The Kid is the only one to have hit it.
In a similar vein, nobody has EVER hit a baseball OVER the scoreboard at Wrigley. A few people have hit balls into it, and a golf ball was hit over it once and a football was kicked over it once, but nobody has ever hit a baseball over it. EDIT: According to the tour guide when my family and I toured Wrigley Field on my golden birthday a decade ago, if you do manage to hit the scoreboard (which in and of itself is EXTREMELY difficult), it's an automatic dinger.
You really surprise me with topics like this. I'm the very most casual sports fan so I rarely think about such things. So when you bring it up, I'm like "yeah, that's a good question".
i love that warehouse from the Baltimore and Ohio owning it till its current used as a clubhouse for the Orioles? Truly beautiful just like the Supply Warehouse for the San Diego Padres.
He’s a righty. It would take a 475’ oppo shot. Not happening. We had Jim Thome and Aubrey Huff who were ideal candidates if they had more chances. If by some miracle Jac Caglianone falls to the Orioles, he’s the type of guy who could hit it in his career.
This video was made two years ago. I noticed because when he said the Orioles suck, i wondered why. Because the Orioles had one of the best records in all of MLB last year.
Excellent video, and great analysis. I've never been to Camden Yards. Went to old Memorial Stadium a lot in the early 80s, and almost every home game Saturday during the Orioles' 1983 WS run. That warehouse is absolutely iconic, and Camden has always been gorgeous on TV and in pictures. Hitting the warehouse at Camden is similar to hitting an apartment rooftop at Wrigley. It's just not all that feasible, as tantalizing as it may be, and have only happened once each (at least as far as I am aware at Wrigley). You have to hit the ball exceptionally hard and at a high angle that is usually enough to kill flight distance. The elevated base of the warehouse makes the difference, as if it was on the same level as home plate, there would be and additional 30 feet of fall range where the ball could still hit it... and make it much more likely. Case in point, the apartments at Wrigley get hit 4-5 times a year, minimum... but usually within 15 feet of ground level. I also wonder if there may be some manner of air pressure effect that builds up against the warehouse and causes HR balls to slow at a slightly higher rate in that space. That would be more likely with large crowd, and... well... they often can't give away tickets to Orioles' games the past few years.
The harbor is also in that direction, so the breeze comes in that way in the evening. Ironically the warehouse blocks a lot of it, but to hit it that far it needs to go higher than the warehouse, so anything that should have the distance gets knocked down. It's also terribly hot and swampy which I'm sure plays a factor too.
The warehouse itself may actually be creating air currents that deaden/deflect the ball along Eutaw Street, keeping the ball from hitting the building....Oracle Park in San Francisco has a similar effect, although only 309 down the line, Giants players over the years haven't put 100 balls in the bay...the construction of the ballpark affected the wind currents there...a possibility
All balls hit onto Eutaw Street have their own plaque. Just hitting the street is a phenomenal achievement. The ball has to clear the wall then clear the patio just to hit the street. You have to clear the street to hit the warehouse. BTW, there are vendors (Boogs BBQ) and all kinds of people walking there while the game is going on. They wouldn't have put a main thoroughfare in a spot where batted balls are hit very often. It happens every now and then as the plaques prove but hitting the warehouse is INSANE. It will eventually happen during a regular game but I love the fact that "not being able to hit the warehouse" is a thing. OPACY is a national treasure and everyone should try to get there at least once.

Went to see my White Sox play at Camden a couple-ish of seasons ago and I absolutely loved it. The way the evening sun bounces off those windows, Utah Street itself, the atmosphere (at the time). If you haven’t been, you should go
You should colab with Jomboy and make a “stats that dont matter” video.
“Nobody has done it before, since, or after.” is a sentence I’ll be processing for a long time.
Gunner Henderson hit one about 8' away from the warehouse.
I was at most of Adley Rutschman's games in Double-A Bowie this season. He's technically a switch hitter but does better as a lefty. I think if anyone can do it, Adley can hit the warehouse.
I love adley but nah. He has some pop but he’s not nearly as strong as davis
Bryce Harper might have more of a shot if he didn't play his whole career with NL clubs (WAS, PHI). He still plays a few games there during interleague play, but it's not enough opportunity.
Shohei will hit it one day.
there is one other factor.. the warehouse itself working as a wind inhibitor..
a breeze blowing out to right field is great and all..but that breeze hits the warehouse likely creates a deadzone.. meaning the balls get the nice boost while still in the park.. but there's kind of a crosswind killing the balls velocity the closer it gets to the warehouse
What’s crazy is all 3 of the David’s you talked about I was at all 3 games lol
"Nobody can hit the warehouse."
*The Kid: "Hold my beer..."*
The orioles may suck, but I love going to the best ballpark in the big leagues
We need the home run derby at Camden
I don’t think anyone has ever managed to hit the centerfield scoreboard at Wrigley either.
Yeah but that's like 530 or something from home plate
The crosswinds at Wrigley keep the ball from floating that far into centerfield.
Pretty sure Sam Snead did…but it was a golf ball
“Tossing cookies like a freshman at their first frat party” is the greatest line of the video.
Cedric Mullins is the only thing giving me hope at this time
I had a chance to watch a game at Camden Yards a couple of years ago, which doesn't happen often because I live in the Pacific NW and don't travel much.
Monster roider..
@@erinmsomers Like Hank Aaron was a meth head in his career. Right?
This just proves what a total badass Ken Griffey Jr was. That man was an awesome hitter.
Going to Camden is one of the greatest experiences for any fan. I have the luxury of living in the same city as an Orioles fan.
Just need the team to quit sucking
It's unique ideas like this that really make this channel stand out. I have to say my man, I really appreciate the work you're doing.
A Camden yards video 🔥🔥 being an orioles and redskins fan not much from my teams has made me happy lately 🤣
No Nationals?
@@ajthebestguy9th Probably followed baseball before 05. I grew up near DC as an O's fan.
@@ajthebestguy9th growing up the nationals and ravens didn't exist . I root for them for sure but not as my primary teams.
I saw the title before clicking the video and thought to myself, I could have sworn I watched a homerun Derby back in the day where players hit the wearhouse.
I then clicked the video and it opened up with it lol. Glad I'm not going crazy.
Guess before watching: the warehouse at “street level” is actually elevated higher than the playing field adding a ton of distance.
@@DAK4Blizzard Hmm.. then how did Griffey's 465 footer hit it? >.>
Visited Baltimore & went to Camden Yards earlier this year.. Something about going to a baseball game will never get old to me..
i did it in mlb the show😂
Funny story, when i was stationed at Andrews AFB, i see plenty of games and watched Ripken Jr play his last season. The Orioles had a commercial of Jay Gibbions hitting the warehouse and breaking windows. It was a funny commercial. If you go on a tour of Camden Yards they say that the weather prevents the ball from hitting the warehouse.
3:33 I love the "too high" major league 2 pun as well as the 420 joke more than I should.
2 years ago:
*"Why? The Orioles suck"*
2023-2024 have stayed in 1st place in AL East, pretty much AL in general since.
I think if we had another HR Derby at Camden Yards it would get hit a lot more than just once. The HR derby has evolved a lot since the '90s, guys hit way more home runs and way farther home runs during modern home run derbies.
We need a bid to bring the All Star game back to Camden
Love how it turned out! Thanks for having me help.
Thanks for your help, it made the video amazing
A whole pile of my favorite things -- Camden Yard, the Orioles, data journalism, and 5PV.
Juan Soto just got pretty damn close. 112.6 mph exit velo, 31 degree launch angle, 447 ft. Yet still, no cigar.
“A pitcher tossin cookies like a freshman at a frat party” 💀💀
i love that warehouse from the Baltimore and Ohio owning it till its current used as a clubhouse for the Orioles?
Truly beautiful just like the Supply Warehouse for the San Diego Padres.
That just shows how much of a beast Griffey was
The only person I think on a perfect day could hit the warehouse Giancarlo Stanton
He’s a righty. It would take a 475’ oppo shot. Not happening. We had Jim Thome and Aubrey Huff who were ideal candidates if they had more chances. If by some miracle Jac Caglianone falls to the Orioles, he’s the type of guy who could hit it in his career.
The view from the men's room of The Camden Club is the best view of any stadium in America.
The Os are so impressed that the Mariners are the only team to hit their warehouse, they’re helping us make it to the playoffs!
Technically there have been a few baseballs that have hit the warehouse, they just hit it after a bounce.
Love the analysis you put into this. I've been wondering about this for a long time now, and now I know!
Me: "sat awake pondering the meaning of life"
5 points: "Why can't people hit a building with a baseball"
One of the best videos I've ever seen
Thanks!
I admit I am amazed but not surprised that we have stats for baseballs with the same level of detail that we would a rocket launch.
Omfg, the Orioles actually commented on FPV’s video. XD
I chuckled at 6:18 “five hundred and 5 f***ing feet” 😂😂
Looking at these highlights the ball does hit the building…… but only after it hits the ground first.
I saw the title and said to myself "Ken Griffey Jr is the only one to do it!" and boom, it's the intro lol.
It's the Baltimore air, and the wind. It's like playing golf in Denver, Vs. playing in Hawaii.
Pedro Alvarez hit it on Mother’s Day in I wanna say 2015 vs. the Oakland A’s. I saw it, I was sitting in RF
Great video I've been a Orioles fan since 1996
All balls hit onto Eutaw Street have their own plaque.
