There's POV shots of some ppl and they see his gigantic form fly over them, before they get torn into the tempest.
Absolutely. I do personally have a bit of a preference for KoTM, but this was, like, OBJECTIVELY the better movie, in a lot of ways. I just still get giddy from the larger volume of monster fights in KotM.
Yeah, like could anyone actually tell that Godzilla was bigger in the subsequent movies? He feels enormous in this one but he almost feels smaller in the later films because of how much less inspired the camera work is.
I absolutely loved the way that foot came down. Where the other monsters just stomp around and scream, and destroy stuff, Godzilla took the time and patience to CAREFULLY and very, very quietly move through human-built areas, bringing down the absolute minimum of structures to the point where you're not even sure he was there. Like, as big as he is, no one knew at ALL he was right there, until he stepped in front of the windows. Something that big, that heavy, that GODZILLA, should have been seen or felt for minutes before he got there. He damned careful-stepped his entire way till that point. A multi-thousand ton monster moving so softly people didn't feel it. And he kept doing it through the movie. Scary quiet for such a big guy, and I loved every moment of it. The way the people's screams INSTANTLY cut off the moment his foot came down in front of them, the sheer shock of "wait what the f--"... LoL.
Well the jet did see him briefly and so did the military but Godzilla just ignored them. But even the HokMUTO was like, “Who are you?!” And Godzilla just screeches back, “Godzilla! The king!”
The airport is right by the water, which is why you see the water flowing over the tarmac, Godzilla is coming out of the water. He didn't have to go through the city.
You completely misread the scene. Godzilla does not "stealth". Ever. A GOD/King does not sneak. It was a cinematic choice to make his appearance more suspenseful, but killed the "realism", same as the MUTO only making noise once the airport lights turned on, makes no sense. Of the Monsterverse films = This is (IMO) the best. Gareth Edwards did a mighty fine job on the direction and concept. How can you perform so many subtle notes in a film about gigantic monsters = His arrival in Hawaii/The first use of his Breath Weapon/The way he kills both Mutos/etc. We go to a Godzilla film to see our beloved Goji, and we want more screen time; , but Gareth Edwards purposefully matched his onscreen time to the original. That's a dedication of respect in my book.
This movie is 100% the prettiest one, that scene of the army guys jumping and the red streaks, the oooooaaaaaaaooooo music. Gorgeous. And this Godzilla wasn’t taking so many steroids his head became a golf ball yet 😂😂
@@npcimknot958prettiest one? Kotm surpasses it in by a mile, 2014 is way too dark to the point where I can’t even see sometimes and you can barely see Godzilla, come on now don’t be biased
@@h1gh_end134I think a better way to put it is… actually I’m not sure The environment chosen for this film just hits a lot closer to home compared to the other legendary Godzilla movies It might be the constant switching of location of gkotm that made it a little less “pretty” in my eyes, and put simply Kotm just isn’t a good movie, it makes the monsters feel tiny and suffers the same problem with “I can’t see shit” as g14 did
@@mr.bighead903 kotm is better than g14, it fixed just about every problem g14 had, you can clearly see everything that’s going on, Godzilla has a lot more screen time, the humans are atleast better and not boring like in g14 and the titans don’t feel tiny at all, where tf do y’all get this “feels tiny” from? You can clearly size their size compared to buildings and to humans, you even some human perspectives, kotm is objectively a better movie
@@h1gh_end134 oh I LOVE arguing, here we go- I say the titans feel smaller because of how they are angled, most shots chosen for kotm were from a mid to high angle on the titans scale, so we as the audience felt at the same height as them, and combined with the faster speed of the titans, they just didn’t have the same impact as g14 The lighting in some places (the Rodan chase, Mothra reveal, and the Godzilla reawakening) were indeed an improvement, but in places such as the Ghidorah reveal, and Godzilla and Mothra vs Rodan and Ghidorah fight, the lighting, paired with the choice of snow and rain, ruined the fight for me The human characters is honestly all opinions; I really hated the human characters in kotm as their story was just infuriating, the g14 human characters I at least partially sympathized with, but again the human part is all opinion I’m gonna talk about the size thing again, you say that we can use the building and humans as a scale, but lemme ask you something, did the buildings feel big to you? If I wanted to feel the scale of the monsters, I would physically have to try and remember how big buildings are, which is annoying, and while there were a couple human-shot perspectives in kotm; they were VERY sparse, and were replaced by glamour shots of the kaijus
Let’s hope by the time GvK comes out we’ll be back to normal Although i have never actually experienced a theater going nuts, i guess dutch people are shyer than average hahaha
Dude I went to see it with my dad in IMAX. I had a death grip on the seat when he roared. It was the most terrifying but also amazing trips to an IMAX movie ever
When Godzilla took a step near the airport window some kid in theater yelled "GIANT ELEPHANT!" And I just realised how his feet looks like an elephant's feet
That powerful roar is really iconic. It's not scared at all, but it's like a roar of bravery and hope from Godzilla telling to his enemy that he's the king of the titans.
I feel this scene is possibly the most realistic reaction to this type of scenario I've ever seen, just explosion people start screaming big monster people scream more, then you see a foot, a foot so large your mind can't even comprehend what it just saw so you just go quiet. Gives me chills every time 😅
The only complaint is that there is less monster screentime. Kotm sure has more screentime but the way momsters were portrayed weren't on the same level of majesticity as this movie.
@@jackoplumkin6412 I think the monsters not being on screen a whole lot is what adds to their presence. Because their not in it a lot, when they are on screen it feels more epic somehow. There’s not as much weight to the scenes with the monsters in KOTM because of how prevalent they are
2014 Godzilla might not be bright but they covered it up unbelievably well with such epic shots, watching Titians fight in kotm wasn't fun at all. Watching Godzilla coming out of the smoke or water or seeing him through lightning is way more epic and actually gives you the sense of the size he has got
@@AdiusOmega exactly. They are fucking wwe ragdolls right now, look at the presence just with the footstomp compared to the new trailer of new empire of him running.
the director for this movie should've done the last 2 movies, the atmosphere in this one was just so ominous and it really brought out the sheer terror of godzilla
I think they cut off all sounds besides Godzilla footsteps and roar because they wanted to emphasize how massive and just the absolute sheer power of Godzilla
Actually, 1/10. Nobody, including the MUTO, noticed Godzilla until he's on top of them. The MUTO was completely silent until lights hit it, because we all know Titans are masters of stealth...
This 2014 film is underrated. I still remember being a 14 year old going to the cinema on my own to watch this, and I really liked it. The intro of humanity trying to kill Godzilla, and then seeing how much cinematography and technology has evolved. Then, Aaron-Taylor's character doing a Halo jump to recover the nuclear warhead was epic I just looked through some old stuff and actually found the cinema ticket to watch this film; dang, it'll be 9 years since its release this year
This scene was just amazing. I love the fact that you get a glimps of Godzilla but you don't have a lot of time to recongize its him. His leg coming into focus and silencing everyone in the terminal is just excellent.
I love how they make out all these planes exploding in this massive space to seem so impactful, just for the spectacle to be instantly dwarfed by Godzilla putting a foot down next to it. How all the explosions drowns out, suddenly insignificant, still from the perspective of the airport passengers, and we can’t even see the whole monster. It makes the audience feel like an ant especially with how that foot is the first we see of him. Godzillas introduction to the scene is perfect.
The most powerful "shut the fuck up" in this history of cinema. Everyone stopped panicking, the monster stopped trashing shit and they all looked up at godzilla. No "oh damns" were verbally spoken, but they were felt.
They should’ve made enough money of off this and Kong (and their other films), that they should be able to do much more. Just look at the Pacific Rim 2 trailers, there’s a bunch more in that sequel, so we can expect similar for Godzilla’s sequel.
Jokster boy I imagine a scene of king ghidorah breaking through the ice of the Antarctic, causing the Monarch research facility around it to collapse, with a slow dark remix of his classic theme playing.
As long as they show the monsters this time around. Like everything I've seen from the Director so far. Hoping we get the proper monster mash we've been waiting for.
Just the ice shattering into pieces but breaking King Ghidorah into pices at the same time but after some moment of silence ice melts and the fires took shape
it's awesome and kind of terrifying when the ice breaks and there is just smoke but the lightning starts and then from the bottom ghidorah rises. but then godzilla appears roaring to ghidorah. so yeah EPIC!
This scene kinda reminds me why I think this movie is easily the best of the monsterverse. It's epic, the monsters are more impressive, they feel bigger, Godzilla feels more like an actual god coming from the depths, it's a lot more serious, it's tense and challenges the viewer's patience only to reward it amazingly well, and the movie overall feels a whole lot more realistic and well written. The other movies after this are also really good, but they're way faster paced and feel more "cool" than being genuinely good films. Still loved them, of course
Yeah man, Godzilla 2014, Kong Skull Island and even the first Pacific Rim really capture the scale and aura of these giant monsters well. Everytime they were on screen you got the chills. You also cared for the human characters and their story in all of it. I feel like KOTM and GVK suffered like Pacific Rim 2 did. The human part of the plot was messy, I don't think most people cared for it , aswell as getting the scale and epicness of the monsters wrong. Everything feels smaller and less out of the peoples control (I think the larger events mostly being out of the people's control makes the monsters more scary and the threat more real). Maybe they were trying to do too much at one time idk
@@codedxxx the humans in 2014 were actually entertaining, especially Bryan Cranston. And it was meant to be dark. It was a Kaiju movie, but it's main purpose was to establish the monster verse, which I'd say it accomplished extraordinarily well.
Seeing almost everything from the human perspective really sells the scale of the monsters and increases the sense of danger, something I feel is missing from the other movies
This movie was a great introduction to monsterverse. This movie is seen through the perspective of humans. Later films we get more kaiju fight and I also loved Kong skull Island.

@@h1gh_end134I think a better way to put it is… actually I’m not sure
The environment chosen for this film just hits a lot closer to home compared to the other legendary Godzilla movies
It might be the constant switching of location of gkotm that made it a little less “pretty” in my eyes, and put simply
Kotm just isn’t a good movie, it makes the monsters feel tiny and suffers the same problem with “I can’t see shit” as g14 did
@@mr.bighead903 kotm is better than g14, it fixed just about every problem g14 had, you can clearly see everything that’s going on, Godzilla has a lot more screen time, the humans are atleast better and not boring like in g14 and the titans don’t feel tiny at all, where tf do y’all get this “feels tiny” from? You can clearly size their size compared to buildings and to humans, you even some human perspectives, kotm is objectively a better movie
@@h1gh_end134 oh I LOVE arguing, here we go-
I say the titans feel smaller because of how they are angled, most shots chosen for kotm were from a mid to high angle on the titans scale, so we as the audience felt at the same height as them, and combined with the faster speed of the titans, they just didn’t have the same impact as g14
The lighting in some places (the Rodan chase, Mothra reveal, and the Godzilla reawakening) were indeed an improvement, but in places such as the Ghidorah reveal, and Godzilla and Mothra vs Rodan and Ghidorah fight, the lighting, paired with the choice of snow and rain, ruined the fight for me
The human characters is honestly all opinions; I really hated the human characters in kotm as their story was just infuriating, the g14 human characters I at least partially sympathized with, but again the human part is all opinion
I’m gonna talk about the size thing again, you say that we can use the building and humans as a scale, but lemme ask you something, did the buildings feel big to you? If I wanted to feel the scale of the monsters, I would physically have to try and remember how big buildings are, which is annoying, and while there were a couple human-shot perspectives in kotm; they were VERY sparse, and were replaced by glamour shots of the kaijus

This is not just the "Airport scene". This is the Legendary Airport scene!!
Godzilla 2014 critics: "2/10, TOO MUCH HUMANS"
Godzilla KOTM critics: "2/10, TOO MUCH MONSTERS"
Well said mate!!!
@Dave Harow the writing of the humans was just pure garbage. If they hired writers or read the script once, the movie would have been fine
The problem is that there's no happy medium between the two.
they also cut away from the monster fights a lot to see how it impacted the humans below
KOTM was pretty bad honestly
When Godzilla took a step near the airport window some kid in theater yelled "GIANT ELEPHANT!"
And I just realised how his feet looks like an elephant's feet
They were redesigned in the KOTM movie
Well, there is technically giant elephant...
Imagine seeing feet that big theyre the size of appartment buildings Just imagine even an animal that freaking huge
And That’s what I’m going to say, BIGGER BOOT!!!
@Tom Sutherland of his feet?
Gives me chills every time 😅
Gareth Edwards should direct more Godzilla films. He nailed everything about the awesomeness of these monsters.
Ikr! The sound effects, the camera angles, SFX, the CGI and how the monster's size are depicted perfectly.
Nailed it all.
There’s not as much weight to the scenes with the monsters in KOTM because of how prevalent they are
@@madeusedward0049 That's true. Though I still believe the fight at the airport shouldn't have been cut out. It would still be epic af

This 2014 film is underrated. I still remember being a 14 year old going to the cinema on my own to watch this, and I really liked it. The intro of humanity trying to kill Godzilla, and then seeing how much cinematography and technology has evolved. Then, Aaron-Taylor's character doing a Halo jump to recover the nuclear warhead was epic

Joe Waters they were just reacting to the planes exploding and the chaos in the terminal
Godzillas introduction to the scene is perfect.

this scene is timeless
Possibly THE greatest appearance to any character, ever!
Definitely the best, however 2019 is easily my favorite
@@tictacdope7866 I agree
This movie was too dark and I couldn’t see shit. Agreed, the other movies were cool. This one felt slow and focused too much on humans than kaijus.
