Here is how recipe goddess Ina Garten says to make the egg cream: Pour 3 tablespoons of chocolate syrup and 1/4 cup of milk or half-and-half into a 16-ounce glass. While beating vigorously with a fork, slowly add club soda until the glass is almost full. Add a straw and serve very cold.
I know you do the “I hope you are well” thing for everybody, but I needed it today. Thank you so much for doing what some consider to be a silly thing, but it meant something to me.
I used to work in a soda fountain, and we had egg creams on the menu. We always mixed the chocolate syrup with the milk (thoroughly), then folded in the seltzer/sparkling water. Start with an extra-chocolate-y chocolate milk, so you're not watering it down too much.
Chocolate egg cream: mix equal amount, (about 2 inches each) of chocolate syrup and whole milk to the bottom of a tall glass. Stir well. Add seltzer (not mineral water 🤢) and leave enough room in the glass to top off with a bit more milk. Quick stir just combine and to not kill the carbonation. When done properly, an egg cream is simply a slightly carbonated chocolate milk.
Sounds absolutely awful. Fizz does not go with creamy. You’re making me feel sick. What’s the difference between seltzer and sparkling mineral water? We don’t call sparkling water “seltzer” in the UK.
@@handsoffmycactus2958 mineral water has minerals intentionally added to it that affect the flavor. seltzer is just plain water that has been carbonated.
While I’d never put my hand on anyone’s cactus, it being prickly and all, a chocolate egg cream is something Americans, especially Americans from the northeast NY/NJ area enjoy. I encourage you not to try it but you needn’t disparage it either. Many Americans think blood pudding is off putting but it’s something Brits enjoy so, have at it. It’s not for me to say blood and pudding shouldn’t be combined. Dairy and carbonation also is used in our ice cream sodas. A scoop or two of ice cream, some flavored syrup and…yes…soda water aka seltzer. I happen to like mineral water but not in my egg cream. I guess you like blood in your pudding. (Shrug) cheers!
@@handsoffmycactus2958 so you’ve never had an ice cream float? Scoop of vanilla ice cream in a mug of cold fizzy root beer. It’s delicious Maybe instead of criticizing a recipe you’ve never tried that’s from another country, you should give it a try.
I make those ham/cheese crescents all the time. They're really good with ham and brie as well. Also to bring it up to the next level, sprinkle sesame seeds on top, or Everything seasoning, which is basically sesame seeds, minced dried garlic and minced dried onion and poppy seeds. It just adds a little bit more flavor. Also ham/gruyere and mustard rolled in crescents is another good combo.
I love making ham and swiss sliders with sweet hawaiian rolls! Bake them in the oven and brush with a dijon mustard, poppyseed, butter mixture and they're just sooo good!

It's funny, I just tried a recipe for lemon pasta that is pretty much the same as your Marmite one except with the juice and zest of 1 lemon instead of Marmite. I was amazed at how the pasta water changed lemon butter into a creamy sauce. Excellent kitchen secret. As usual, thanks for the fun video!
I did the cereal bars the other day with cinnamon vanilla bean honey and rice checks. Crushed pretzels, and a little bit of milk chocolate chips. It's yummy
Honestly one of my favorite parts of your videos are when you say you hope I'm well. It always makes me smile regardless of what's going on in my life. Really appreciate it 💚 I hope you're well too.
Those ham and cheese pastries sound amazing! The drink reminded me of something I’ve heard of but never tried. You basically mix cola and milk together and it’s meant to be really refreshing.
It’s called Pilk (Pepsi milk), and it’s disgusting… This is a hill some people will die on of “how great it is”, but it just tastes like the curdled worst of both worlds.
Egg creams are a bygone delicacy of Brooklyn (NY). It's nearly impossible to find a place that makes them anymore. There's no one right recipe. It's an experiment and finally you choose the combination of the three basic ingredients that you like best. My way: put in the chocolate first. Then add about 1/3 glass milk. Mix that together. The rest is the seltzer water. Best to use a soda syphon, something that adds pressure to the mixture that helps it all stir up and create a white foam on top. Hope you'll give it another try. P.S. you may belch.
Another idea I do sometimes with marmite is just getting a teaspoon of marmite and smearing it on a chicken breast and then just cooking it in the oven. Usually served with chips/wedges and beans but also works well with rice.
Puff Pastry is one of those ingredients I've started always keeping in the freezer, it is great for making so many different things. I'm definitely going to make those ham croissant rolls for brunch!

A little bit similar to the marmite and butter pasta, I grew up eating pasta with butter and soy sauce. The sharp saltiness with butter is a great combo.
Did a marmite pasta variation. Used the Marmite with truffle special variation currently available - In a pasta bowl, added 1 slice of ham, torn, lots of grated cheddar cheese, couple of spoonfuls of pasta water, cooked fresh egg tagliatelle. Top with random slices of butter & 1/2 teaspoon truffle marmite. Mix until everything is coated - add more truffle marmite & cheese as desired. Not bad at all & little washing up😄

I have never got on with pasta in any shape or form, but I do love Marmite and Parmesan cheese so might give that a go but with more Marmite (Mrs B is right), and the peanut butter bars and the Croissants (with added Marmite ofc) look very doable.
My favourite pasta is plain pasta that has been cooked in chicken stock instead of salted water. Yummy and super budget friendly. If I am feeling fancy I’ll add a little cream and cheese at the end but most of the time I don’t.
Your puff pastry rolls look great! With the ham, seems you can use almost any cheese. I have ham and turkey plus cheddar, Swiss, brie, and a bunch of others, wish I had the pastry.
Egg creams and (even better) ice cream sodas were a big part of my childhood! Try it again, Barry, because you might like it when prepared correctly. For the egg cream, you start with basically chocolate milk, but a heavy pour on the chocolate sauce so that it’s very rich. Mix it well. Then get super carbonated seltzer water and mix it in well as you’re pouring to get that big head of froth. You’re trying to mimic the power of the seltzer gun. For an ice cream soda, do the same but with a scoop of ice cream instead of milk. You can do chocolate with chocolate sauce for something super rich, or vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce for what’s called a Black and White. Put the ice cream in a glass, cover in syrup, then vigorously mix in super fizzy water. Top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Ok, now I have to go find something sweet to stop this craving…
It doesn't matter how you do it, it's disgusting to anyone who isn't American because it tastes sour, and artificial. American chocolate is a vomit tasting mess, and adding that to very poor quality milk, then watering down the milk with carbonic acid water won't be noticeable. It's very noticeable to non-Americans that don't have sour, rancid chocolate and proper milk.
i used to make these for my daughter when she was younger , peanut butter , jelly or jam and her favorite cereal . she thought she was getting something new and special . great treats for after school .
*Barry, you should try making Puppy Chow* its sort of like the Chocolate PB bars..but not. Good Stuff! also, you should probably have one of the kids help you.
I think your ratios were off for the egg cream. It's normally as follows. 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup 1 1/2 ounces whole milk 3/4 cup seltzer In a tall glass, add chocolate syrup and milk. Tilt the glass slightly and pour (or spritz) the seltzer off your stirring spoon until you have a nice foamy head that's nearing the top of the glass. Stir vigorously to mix the chocolate in and serve immediately.
For the drink, instead of sparkling water, maybe Cream Soda would work. I remember My Gran telling my Mum to give it to my Brother to help with his spots on his face when we were Teens. That could be an old wives tale , like flat cola being good for unset bellies, but it was surprisingly good.
whenever i make toasted sandwiches, my go to combination is ham, cheese and australian mustard. I'm sure any mustard would work, but i haven't tried others. regardless, that combination is amazing, so I'm sure the second recipe you made tastes great also
I'm 65 and I grew up drinking egg creams and they were mixed innate blender. They were delicious. Also I am the same way with the pasta. I do not like spaghetti I generally always get linguine.
I'm definitely giving the croissant a go since ready made puff pastry is becoming more available where I'm from :) also if you wanna taste something that's the closest thing I think to good tasting fizzy milk, you should try Milkis, a Korean yogurt flavor soda. You can probably find it online or at your asian/Korean Groceries. It's tastes pretty good in my opinion.
Super super simple, hearty, filling dish 1 lb breakfast sausage Diced potatoes (2-3 fresh - size depending, or a couple good handfuls of frozen) 1 can of cream soup - any flavor Brown & crumble the sausage Remove from pan and fry potatoes in sausage dripping, adding oil if needed When potatoes are tender (crisp if desired), add back in sausage, stir in soup to heat through and serve To be a little cheeky, use o'brian potatoes with onions & peppers or saute diced onion in either cooking step Season with pepper & top with cheese if desired
The absolute egg cream slander is these comments lol. I'd recommend trying the egg cream again with plain carbonated water and stirring in the syrup. Lofty Pursuits here on youtube has an excellent video about how to make a proper egg cream and also the history of the drink, if that's your vibe.
Yep, it’s supposed to be seltzer, not Italian mineral water. It’s a classic deli drink here in the U.S. my understanding is that it’s important to use the right chocolate syrup - Fox’s U-Bet
Substitute the maple syrup for melted pb with marshmallows for that cereal square woupd be awesome. Also another 3 ingredient idea is ground lamb/beef/turkey, bombay mix and pasta sauce. They made it on Sorted Food and it looked delicious
Can't beat Hony Mustard stuff, love making my own, easy to make too, cos honey, mustard, done, though I do like a pinch of garlic powder & some dill added to mine, cos yum... :D

I also have preferences for the shaped pastas? Go figure 🙄 I do enjoy these 3 ingredient recipes! TFS and keep cool in this hot waether. 👍❤
We used to make something similar to your cereal bars but instead of peanut butter and maple syrup used several melted mars bars and then coated the whole lot with a layer of chocolate.
A chocolate egg cream is just a carbonated chocolate milk. Never use mineral water, use plain seltzer (not club soda which has salt), and you have to mix the chocolate syrup up from the bottom.
No idea what seltzer is or club soda is. In the UK we have sparkling water. San Pelligrino is just sparkling water. And it’s gross. We have soda water though. Never heard of seltzer in my life.
@@handsoffmycactus2958 seltzer is just plain carbonated water used in sodas. If you use coke syrup you have a coke, etc. You can make it with a soda stream machine if you can't find it. Club is the same but has salt in it & is used in cocktails - at least in the US. Far too much milk was used here & the majority of the liquid should be seltzer. If made correctly you get a chocolate soda & not fuzzy milk. You don't want to use anything with minerals in it.
Got the peanut bars in the fridge now. I'd like to try croissants, vegan style and definitely the marmite spaghetti. I'll give the drink a miss, though. I don't think it's going to improve if I use soya milk.
Those cheese and ham croissants looks so delicious and I was thinking of making these up for the kids as a grab and go breakfast option. Just a silly question, once cooked would they still work well being frozen then re heated? Thinking it may not work
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but with the chocolate egg cream drink, I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to mix the chocolate syrup and milk first, then add the sparkling water.
I was thinking the same as Mrs B., that there wasn't a single green thing in the entire spread. I suppose that the Marmite adds some vitamins, but at the very least I'd add a handful of peas to the pasta. Mrs B's dress was very cute, BTW.
Yeast extracts make a really good replacement for soy sauce. I tent to use alternatives to Vegemite (like Mightymite, Promite or Sanitarium brand Marmite) as I don't want to waste my Vegemite. Hahaha! I actually quite like British Marmite too (Sold as Our Mate in Australia).
dont worry barry i prefer pretty much any noodle over spaghetti noodles as well. elbow macaroni, penne pasta, so on and so on lol. sauce fills the holes in the noodles and makes the meal better in my opinion
change it up Barry, 4, 3ish, 2, 1. I love this play list and a lot of the others you have done but this one helps us a lot there is 6 of us in my family and some times meals get a bit boring doing the same meals most weeks due to our budget, you help us change things up and my kids even eat some of it :P
Marmite spaghetti is probably like Maggi (the liquid seasoning) spaghetti in Germany, there are also two camps. Could you put mustard into an egg wash, or would it burn? I wonder because depending on the eggs I hate the smell of baked egg wash. Flavoured egg wash may be nicer. I prefer the flat noodles as well ♥️, or capellini.

"Just keep it to food... you know who you are" 🤣... aw go on Barry, spill the beans 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your puff pastry rolls look great! With the ham, seems you can use almost any cheese. I have ham and turkey plus cheddar, Swiss, brie, and a bunch of others, wish I had the pastry.
Made the marmite pasta for my daughter, loved it! Going to make the croissant for a family lunch this weekend:)
Omg! Mr.Grumpy shirt!!!!
*Barry, you should try making Puppy Chow* its sort of like the Chocolate PB bars..but not. Good Stuff! also, you should probably have one of the kids help you.
I have them on my table right now. My 17 year old makes them for me.
@@mordeys tasty stuff :)
Great ones Barry! Going to try them all.
I think your ratios were off for the egg cream.
It's normally as follows.
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 1/2 ounces whole milk
3/4 cup seltzer
In a tall glass, add chocolate syrup and milk. Tilt the glass slightly and pour (or spritz) the seltzer off your stirring spoon until you have a nice foamy head that's nearing the top of the glass. Stir vigorously to mix the chocolate in and serve immediately.
And seltzer is different that sparkling water.
I’m intrigued by the marmite pasta, definitely want to try that.
the chocolate peanut butter bars would be good with like, cocoa puffs or ooo even better, cocoa pebbles! not sure what those are in the UK though.
Chocolate Frosted Flakes
I do a version of those crescents, but with salami and provolone. It's very nice and a regular staple.
Omg those cheese and ham rolls look so yummy. Deff need to try them.. I'm thinking change the ham to crispy bacon would be a game changer xx
Oh wow, that first one would be amazing as a work snack
i love to drink sourmilk or buttermilk with sparkling water in summer, it's so refreshing!
Love seeing these videos. The 4 3 2 1 is probably my favorite play list. Should definitely be nutella cerial bars.
I appreciate that I am not the only person who calls their dog a ‘people person’!
Minus maple syrup add marshmallows make a Rice krispie treat out of them that's delicious we do it all the time
For the drink, instead of sparkling water, maybe Cream Soda would work.
I remember My Gran telling my Mum to give it to my Brother to help with his spots on his face when we were Teens.
That could be an old wives tale , like flat cola being good for unset bellies, but it was surprisingly good.
I think you mean they made a bicarb, which was basically Alkasetlzer before it became a brand.
whenever i make toasted sandwiches, my go to combination is ham, cheese and australian mustard. I'm sure any mustard would work, but i haven't tried others. regardless, that combination is amazing, so I'm sure the second recipe you made tastes great also
I just wondered if u could used golden syrup. Instead off honey or maple syrup for the bars.?
Yeah I reckon so!
@@mrbarrylewis thanks
I'm 65 and I grew up drinking egg creams and they were mixed innate blender. They were delicious.
Also I am the same way with the pasta. I do not like spaghetti I generally always get linguine.
I'm definitely giving the croissant a go since ready made puff pastry is becoming more available where I'm from :) also if you wanna taste something that's the closest thing I think to good tasting fizzy milk, you should try Milkis, a Korean yogurt flavor soda. You can probably find it online or at your asian/Korean Groceries. It's tastes pretty good in my opinion.
Super super simple, hearty, filling dish
1 lb breakfast sausage
Diced potatoes (2-3 fresh - size depending, or a couple good handfuls of frozen)
1 can of cream soup - any flavor
Brown & crumble the sausage
Remove from pan and fry potatoes in sausage dripping, adding oil if needed
When potatoes are tender (crisp if desired), add back in sausage, stir in soup to heat through and serve
To be a little cheeky, use o'brian potatoes with onions & peppers or saute diced onion in either cooking step
Season with pepper & top with cheese if desired
The absolute egg cream slander is these comments lol. I'd recommend trying the egg cream again with plain carbonated water and stirring in the syrup. Lofty Pursuits here on youtube has an excellent video about how to make a proper egg cream and also the history of the drink, if that's your vibe.
I can't figure out where he got the recipe from and the fact that it sat one the counter for 20 minutes before he tried it.
Yep, it’s supposed to be seltzer, not Italian mineral water.
It’s a classic deli drink here in the U.S.
my understanding is that it’s important to use the right chocolate syrup - Fox’s U-Bet
Would love to see a recipe for the pastry tarts you said you make during the week. Always looking for cheap easy meals. Thank you!
Potato and leek soup. Just potatoes, leeks, veggie stock (or chiken stock) and water. Just made it and it is super tasty.
I do a version of the pasta, but I add a bit of unsalted butter and a little pepper to it. The pastries I do bacon, strong cheddar and Dijon mustard.
I ❤️ Marmite!!! I order mine from Walmart here in the USA.
I understand your preference for Linguine over Spaghetti, I also prefer it to Spaghetti, I also prefer Tagliatelli over Spaghetti . . . and I can't explain it either (as it is all just plain pasta.) I also have preferences for the shaped pastas? Go figure 🙄 I do enjoy these 3 ingredient recipes! TFS and keep cool in this hot waether. 👍❤
We used to make something similar to your cereal bars but instead of peanut butter and maple syrup used several melted mars bars and then coated the whole lot with a layer of chocolate.
Sorry for your loss. I hope Boston's adjusting ok. Stay Cool Brother 🇨🇦🤟💙
Also sounds vile anyway. Fizzy milk is disgusting and wrong on every level
@@handsoffmycactus2958 Yes you have it is another name for soda water.
@@handsoffmycactus2958 Seltzer is just soda water.
Linguine are superior! Completely agree
Ciao Bella! I’m with you on the linguine! I love your channel. We have a similar sense of humor so I “get” you 😉
haha that's great, sometimes my humour gets lost on the Internet!
@@mrbarrylewis I have THREE brothers, you remind me of them!
Thinking it may not work
Instead of a egg or milk wash we often do a mayonnaise wash... That really gives pies and savory pastry a beautiful color and taste. Try it sometime.
so cute seeing Boston on the microwave reflection.
You are supposed to stir the egg cream as you make it.
Just followed the method I was shown, but agree stirred was a billion times better and what i've told folks to do!
6:57 "ooh, flame"
that tickled me more than it should've done lol
Must admit, as soon as you warned us against making the drink, I was like "please get Mrs Barry to taste it". Happy to say I was not disappointed 🤣
Awesome recopies, definitely trying the marmite pasta!
Also, it's a good base for a veggie gravy alternative.
I believe you need to stir your egg cream!
Need to try what I seen on tictok..
Cut bagel in half.. cover in bacon and cook in the oven. Add cheese and fried egg... looked yum. X
dont worry barry i prefer pretty much any noodle over spaghetti noodles as well. elbow macaroni, penne pasta, so on and so on lol. sauce fills the holes in the noodles and makes the meal better in my opinion
change it up Barry, 4, 3ish, 2, 1. I love this play list and a lot of the others you have done but this one helps us a lot there is 6 of us in my family and some times meals get a bit boring doing the same meals most weeks due to our budget, you help us change things up and my kids even eat some of it :P
I had egg cream at Katz’ Deli and loved it. Tried to replicate them at home several times but couldn’t even get close.
Hi really like your RUclips Chanel once I saw it I have loved it soo much.
