Dear sir: You have finally given a dictionary definition of what a *chip* is. A fry is one of those scraggly potato worms you get in a cardboard box. You could also, for that drink- add those tapioca pearls, add the chocolate ice cream, and have the ultimate Bounty drink: The Boba. *gets hat*
Call it Food Focus, but don't limit yourself to only the single ingredient. Just show multiple different ways to cook it, as there are so many ways to cook a potato if you don't limit yourself. For example, my favorite is fondant potatoes - and yet at age 34, I didn't know they existed until last year!
Barry are you going to go and do something with Stewart soon? I loved that poundland sandwich video you guys did right before the Christmas of 19. Let me know
True, yeah. I'd be interested in perhaps seeing a series on making a full day worth of meals with just one main ingredient at it's core, such as potatoes or eggs. I'm sure there are other things that have similar versatility as well.
For that matter, he could omelet that way. Rolled Japanese-style omelet for the starter, main would be stuffed with meat & cheese, and sweet could be stuffed with mincemeat or some such. And if you've never had a dessert omelet, it will change your life.
Barry! That is a lovely meal! I think that you should allow yourself pantry items. Herbs & spices that most of us have. Definitely salt & pepper. One oil or butter. I love your videos!! Thank you!
For the desert, you could have unrolled the cinnamon rolls, laid one on the bottom of the dish, covered that with the custard and apples, then laid a second sheet of cinnamon rolls down.
I've been making (basically) that chicken soup for years...in the crockpot. I sometimes use a steamer veggie bag, a package of Lipton chicken rice, and a cornish game hen. It's always a crowd pleaser, especially at potlucks.
Love your videos Barry! Not sure if shops over there do this, but in canada is you return food they generally have to throw it away because of tampering fears. Just a thought
Loved it as always. Simple potato idea. Bake it in the oven, then scoop out the potato, add butter, grated cheese, season it, then mash it. Now get it back into the skin, back into the oven to finish it off. Simple & delicious.
Yet again another amazing video 😁 Can I just say though. Its not just cod, it depends on where you live. You ask for cod at a chippy where I live, they look at you strangely. Haddock is mostly what you get round here at the chippy unless you request different...
My late mother-in-law Peggy used to make the most amazing pudding that would be something you might like. It had Swiss roll on the bottom, cherry pie filling on top of that and custard on top of that. She warmed it in the oven, and then when it came out, she sprinkled it with crumbled flake before serving. I call it Mumma Edwards hot trifle. So yummy!!!
I've also fallen in love with Pyrex since becoming a parent who cooks a lot. You should check out all the old vintage patterns! England, America and a few other countries all have their own patterns. It's super cool but also a super deep and slippery rabbit hole.
I think I would layer the custard on top of the apples and leave the rolls intact, and place the slices on top sort of like an (American) cobbler to give them more surface space for the icing. We don’t have custard in containers here in the US, and I don’t think pudding would be nearly as good. I’m thinking perhaps we could use a sweetened yogurt with a whisked egg in it to emulate the custard, or just make custard and use leftovers for a second dessert
You do have custard in containers, according to Google Walmart has a few variations to go with. Now, as a European, I believe there's a Walmart on every street corner, so I assume there's one near you 😂
You could do instant vanilla pudding made with half-n-half instead of milk. I'd think that would give it the richness similar to a true custard. Otherwise, there's the non-instant pudding you can turn into custard by tempering an egg with the warmed milk or, if you want to swing for the fences, half-n-half.
Love how you leave the skin on the potatoes and local fish & chip shop peels this off 👍🏻 healthier options take note local fish & chip shops.mushy peas are still a popular addition to the fish supper 😁 Greatly approved and amazing videos..thank you Barry
Yes, do the single ingredient ideas!!! And what would be an equivalent for the custard, because that's not something we have in the US. And idk if it's different in the UK, but when perishable items are returned to the store, after they've left the store, they cannot be sold. I work at a grocery store in Delaware, and we have to throw away all perishable items (frozen, dairy, deli, meat, produce and bakery) items that are brought back after they've left the store. It's a health hazard and they are labeled "not for resale" before disposing.
I'm going to try that soup! ALWAYS down for a good chicken 'ramen' soup! And I LOVE the shredding hack... been using it for YEARS now since you introduced me to it!
As always thanks for the great content! I’m not sure if across the pond your stores have to do the same. But in the states any food that has left the store and is returned has to be thrown away. They can’t prove it hasn’t been tampered with. You might want to ask next time if that’s the case and consider donating to a food pantry if available.
I never thought about using cinnamon rolls as a topping before, great idea! Love the potato idea since there are so many ingredients that can be turned into different things.
Trace minerals I assume... My dog was eating the dirt off the sidewalk today.. Lol.. I love the 1 idea. The potato idea. I think you should use more than just the 1 but 1 meaning the over all main part.
I have a great one that I make regularly. It takes just a bit of technique tho. So the ingredients are just Yukon gold potatoes, chili crisp, and smoked or sweet paprika (I know you will love it) First cut the potatoes into decent sized chunks, maybe 8 per potato, and put them in water on the stove and bring to a boil. (it allows them to come up to temp with the water preventing the outside from being over cooked while the inside is still under) and cook until done. Then take those potatoes out and put in a bowl that you have a tight fitting lid for, add 1-2 tablespoons of the chili crisp (enough to coat the potatoes) and a tablespoon of the paprika. Then put the lid on and shake the potatoes vigorously to coat with the mixture, it will also rough up the outside texture of the potatoes and make them slightly “fluffy” on the outside. Lastly you just bake them at a high temp because they are already cooked, and you try to get a good crisp on them, the fluffy outer texture should help with that! I hope you like my simple recipe :)
I always love these recipes but these ones seriously hit something in me where I HAVE to go try this!! I don’t cook fish (ever! only get it from the chippy) the noodle soup looks amazing(and I never make soup, that’s something I’d just get from a can) and that fruit bake looks SO GOOD. I’ll have to figure out how to do it as we don’t have the cinnamon roll pastry over here in Aus. I’m so excited though!! Thank you Barry!
I made the apple cinnamon bun bake last night. Sadly, there was no custard. Where I am in the states canned custard isn't really a thing. But served with some whipped cream this was amazingly delicious!!! Thank you for introducing me to this dish. I will be making it again.
Hi Barry I've just finished watching your 4321 playlist (Amazing) and seeing as everything is going up in the world I was wondering could you do a video that involves a microwave meal and maybe other cheapish stuff? Thanks
I feel like after boiling the chicken if you gave it a quick sear in a pan before shredding you could have some extra flavour on the outside parts. No idea if it would work but sounds good
where i live we are a famous potato town haha there's lot of different kinds of potato.. and there was a restaurant that used to make potato cakes... like sweet birthday cake with potatoes... it was really great
Love these videos, they're so creative despite the ingredient limits! It'd be awesome if there was a part at the end of the video where you decide if you'd actually make the recipes again or not!
I'm sure there are many ingredients where you could show off the many ways to emphasize the ingredient. Potato, egg, meat, etc. You could also pick ingredients that some folks may not entirely know how to use due to their locality. Like Taro root, rutabaga/swedes, that sort of thing.
Well here in the United States grocery stores do not put returns back out on the shelf if it’s food it goes directly into the trash so I don’t take food items back to the store anymore
Have you ever scrambled an egg and just poured it in with the boiling water for ramen? I like to eat my ramen without the liquid, so I boil it in just salted water, and what I do is once the noodles are soft enough to separate, I slowly stir the noodles as I pour in an egg. I then strain it like normal, and add the seasoning packet. It is so good that way.
You could have a series called like 'Key Ingredient' or something and have the whole dish based around the one ingredient (like potato), that way you can use other stuff like milk, butter, etc to make things like mash, without it just being boiled potato!
oh my they had the custard pies at australian maccas as well and they were the best / worst. I had at least 4 a week because they were soooo good! My stomach was glad when they stopped selling them.
Potato idea reminds me of an old Ready Steady Cook where, possibly a celebrity... but can't remember who... bought nothing but potatos in their shopping bag 🤣
I like that 'POTATO' video actually, you could select mundane ingredients and show how many ways they can be used in a dish or set of dishes! Something like a "Make the Most Of..." series.
Is that just confectioners sugar that comes with the cinnamon buns? In America we get a pre-mixed icing in the bottom of the tube. I think some are cream cheese style Cinnabon icing.
I learned a great chicken shredding hack from tiktok that has changed the game. You can shred your chicken using an electric hand mixer and a big bowl. So much quicker, easier and was less messy.
Fondant potatoes done with beef dripping, pomme puree with horseradish, and thrice cooked chips for your potato dish. Maybe? Looking at the texture differences here.
At least in the US, the McDonald's custard pies are sold around Christmas. It's just one of the seasonal things they tend to do (like strawberry creme pies around Valentine's Day, shamrock shakes at St. Patrick's Day, and pumpkin pies for halloween and Thanksgiving). And in the summer in the northeast they do lobster rolls some years (because we're known for lobster up here in New England).
I have a 4 ingredient chicken and dumplings that I like to make. Chicken broth (can, bullion, homemade, whatever), condensed cream of chicken soup (no added water), chicken (leftovers, can chicken, or freshly cooked), and for my dumplings I used premade packages of gnocchi (I get the cheap at the local dollar store). The gnocchi cook fast (three minutes or so) so add them at the very last. You could skip the chicken broth and just use cream of chicken soup if you want it to be just three ingredients.
I love watching your videos 🙂 you always make me laugh. Your an amazing cook and have the best ideas! For the potato video you could start with mashed potatoes patties fried then topped with all different kinds of potatoes. You could also get different colors of potatoes for an added touch. :)
@@justanotherviewer4821 the amount of potatoes you would need to eat in order for what you said to be a risk, is so high that you wouldn't actually be able to eat that many. So, although you're technically correct, there's no way it would ever happen in the real world
A small fact: the pies with the custard your referring to are called holiday pies! They're a seasonal item usually in the winter months from November to December! (for the US at least) They used to start from October as well but I know they started doing some pumpkin pie related for that month so either served in that same time also or afterwards
