Sugar Loaf (Brazil) - The Mountain Symbol of Rio de Janeiro (4K)

Another mandatory attraction to visit in Thomas's first trip to Rio was the Sugar Loaf. This iconic mountain is one of the most known sights of the landscape of Rio de Janeiro and of course will be crammed up with tourists wanting to explore this rocky treasure just like us. The Sugar Loaf as we know it is actually made up of two mountains near each other: Morro da Urca (the smallest one) and the Sugar Loaf itself. To visit it you can take the famous centennial cable car but the way up is actually divided in 2 parts. The first one is between the ground station in Praia Vermelha to Morro da Urca where you can have already a scenery view to the city. You can also do this part by foot through a 40-minute trail hike. On this level there are many snack bars, gift shops, an helipad for helicopter tours, replicas of the old cable car models and an exhibition on how the olds mechanics worked. The second cable car is from Morro da Urca to the Sugar Loaf, getting you to the 396m peak (1300ft) from where you can sea Copacabana beach, the Christ and the Guanabara bay. The cable cars work from 8:30am to 8pm and you will want to pay attention to the weather because clouds can form up very quickly and ruin the views.
