I saw them on the tour for this album in June 1996. Excellent show, with Napalm Death, in Phoenix. It was so damn hot in that tiny venue, the Mason Jar (duh, Phoenix in June). Great fun, even though I sweat my balls off that night.
correct. this is seminal melodeath but a lot of the metalcore bands in the 00s took what this album began and ran with it (adding quite a few unnecessary breakdowns in the process)
@@xanimosityx-s9pCarcass too, heartwork came out before any of the Gothenburg big 3 in flames/at the gates/dark tranquility blew up. Heartwork was basically the beginning of melodeath that we’d grow to know and love.
The were part of the Gothenburg big 3 of melodeath with in flames/dark tranquility/after gates, the carcass album heartwork along with in flames “jester race” at the gates “slaughter of the soul and dark tranquility’s “the gallery” are the most the most important and legendary albums in the genre and all were incredibly important. That being said at the gates ended up being very influential to metalcore bands that came down the line.
First time I heard this album it took me less than ten seconds after the intro to ask the name of the album. I was sure it was going to be a masterpiece. Listened the whole album and was convinced. Asked the owner if he could put the cd on repeat the rest of the afternoon 😂
Classic melodeath and a short/sweet track like you said. "no chance for cleans in this song" lol you got it right. Any chance you check out The Black Lodge by In Mourning? Their best track imo
i love this fucking band
One of the best metal albums of all time.
at the gates the real fathers of melodic death metal
Them and in flames because they came from the same scene
Cold is my favorite song on this album. Classic metal album.💎👍🤙

AT THE GATES WAS A NEMESIS OF ALL NEW METALS BAND EVER !!!!!!
Weren't these guy along with In Flames the ones who basically were the originators of metalcore sound?
No. Melodic death metal
Can't believe you forgot Dark Tranquillity, and they were the originators of Melodic Death Metal
