If you want to take a listen to the two guitar players check out "The Haunted". I recommend the songs "All against all", "Shadow world" or "Choke hold". You won't be disappointed. ;-)

Their was pioneers of MDM! Great song! Another pioneers is Carcass and their song Heartwork. Highly recommended!
And another cool song from At The Gates is Terminal Spirit Disease.
This is what started the whole Gothenburg sound, a couple of dudes in Billdal(just outside of the city) trading tapes. Saying we can do better!

:D Definitely.This comment reminds me how I and some other metal heads back in the 90's used to talk in secret about which shampoos and conditioners we used for our hair. Not in public though. But hair was important if you wanted to be a true metal head. (And I am not talking about the 80's hair bands here, I am talking about the trash and death and doom metal crowd.)

I love it. At The gates and Slaughter of the soul created a whole new genre. So many bands have taken inspiration from them, like: As blood runs black, Darkest hour and Black Dahlia murder and many more. This was liker.. what.. 1995? 1992? Very early. This sound was unheard of

Saw these guys live during their reunion tour in 2008. The crowd went apeshit when they played this song. Pretty sure I have some hearing loss from that show too lol.

Went to my 1st show w at the gates, morbid angel and macabre in the Chicago burbs at 13 yrs old. I was so young that when the singer of ATG just patted me on the head LOL. red dreads down to his ass, was literally scary

One of my favourite metal songs from the nineties. It crushes all resistance! The Slaughter of the Soul album is a masterpiece. Saw them live at a small venue in my hometown last years. They just killed it. One of my newer favourites is "To Drink from the Night Itself". In th same vein as this.

I got a chance to see At the Gates a few times on different tours. Of course, this track dropped in '95 or so, so they're not kids anymore. The first time I saw them, they were opening for Behemoth, and were solid. The second time, they were with Arch Enemy and Amon Amarth, and they put down an absolutely blistering set. They can pull off these songs live, for sure. After the pit for these guys and Behemoth, I had to take a day off of work. It was like getting into a 3 hour fist fight.
When I first listened to this song I thought 'oh, god. The drummer must have needles and pins for days after each show'
