Try local pheri which is for local people (30-40 rs for 3-4 hr travel and it is real back water and not that in house boat) and bird sanctuary kumarakom

this runs between kumarakom to Alleppey for locals.. pl check with locals ...i visited long back and don't remember exact name ... But it travel through real back water like small steel bridges lift up to give way to that ferry and it drop at the door step of houses which have only water passages

One wrong information provided by you. There are several housesboats which provides 24 hours AC rooms. I stayed at Southern Panorama house boat few days back.
