Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Also, have you ever TASTED straight rhubarb juice? Do not recommend.
I make strawberry rhubarb jam and a pure rhubarb pie which is delicious!
😂😂😂😂😂
Love rhubarb pie. Can’t handle the sour of the straight rhubarb juice. 😬
😂😂😂😂😂
My daughter would probably love it. She’s been obsessed with sour from day one of eating solid foods. 😂
My step mom always made strawberry/Rhubarb pie, loved it
It’s such a good memory for me.
Rhubarb is technically a veggie and a member of the buckwheat family. However in 1947 it was classified as fruit because tariffs on fruit was lower than veggies.
Interesting! Also what’s a carrot? Someone said carrot was a fruit in discord yesterday and now I don’t know where I live anymore.
@@MrsSoapAndClay carrots are 💯a vegetable because they’re a root. They also make a great jam or jelly.
Also I’m planning to have some fun with a rhubarb bitters recipe for cocktails.
@kris10tackles would make good bitters for sure!
@@MrsSoapAndClay that’s what I was thinking! 😉
I love the chemistry behind all this! From the chemistry I've studied, I agree that soap needs to be basic to function. Once you add acid (H3O+) to soap, the soap, which exists as water soluble ions (RCOO-) can revert into fatty (Carboxylic, RCOOH) acids.
So sciencey. 😂
@@MsAubrey That's my area of interest. One could test that out by dripping some acid into some liquid soap and it will precipitate out the fatty acids as a layer of grease.
@@JP-fp8uc It’s strange… when I was younger, I had no real interest in science, but as an adult middle aged woman making soaps and cosmetics, it’s suddenly interesting. 😂
It’s because it’s being presented in a useful way. I wish more schools would do this for the sciences - show kids that they don’t have to be a doctor or a lab tech or teacher if you’re interested in chemistry.
@@MrsSoapAndClay exactly!!!
I love it when you make things weird! 😂❤
What kind of juicer is that? I'm looking to get one. Also I love your countertop with all of those colors 😍
Hey! The juicer I used is below and on sale!

wonder if you had infused some of the oil with rhubarb root that you could maybe gotten the red back or if the brown would overwrite it.
Yeah I’m super not sure because man that reaction went milk chocolate brown fast.
@@MrsSoapAndClay lol yeah thats too bad was a nice color. ah well. my orriginal rhubarb infusion root in oil turned pretty red but then went brown too. just figured I didn't know what I was doing.
Leave the "heal" - the buttom part - on the steme. That is where most of the sugar content is in a rhubarb. I know that the lather was already great, but the more the marrier.
I grow rhubarb in my garden and use it for chutney. But now some of it will go in a soap.
Does it make a good shampoo bar with the lover PH?
I have a rhubarb and something fragrance oil. I've heard of rhubarb pie, never tried it though lol. I need to look for some rhubarb for a body cream.
I wonder how much more colorant is in the rhubarb root then the stems that we eat. Or if it just the water percentage difference and you would get the same color payoff with the solids left from juicing.
It's like lye and vinegar, or lye and lemon juice...might can each other out. Can not wait to see this.
Wonder how much the heat from the lye on the juice would make the color change vs if you freeze your juice in thick 2” cubes first then pour on the lye slowly stirring it in. 🤔
I love pondering! It wouldn’t change - the neutralization reaction will occur regardless, which I think is why it changed so drastically. The anthocyanins dissociated easier than other compounds within the solution and so no more pink.
@@MrsSoapAndClay your awesome and inspiring, thank you for being you and doing what you do! 🤩🔥💐
I read using rhubarb roots will get the rhubarb color.
Yeah I’ve totally done a gorgeous red using the powdered rhubarb root. I really think this is something to do with the chemical reaction in the lye solution.
My mom had rhubarb in a bowl one day ..and dumbed the entire bag of sugar in it and let it sit for a while... didn't understand that for a long time....and then being the kid I was, tasted it.... hahahahaha I don't have to finish that sentence. Those that know...know!
Looks so pretty, tastes so sour.
I made myself very ill eating rhubarb straight out of my grandma's garden on a dare from my cousin. 2 stalks! Then my stomach said, "Um, no!"
@@JustKrista50 did you forget to cut off the ends? The ends of the stalks are poisonous. That will make you sick
@peepla7
I was 6yrs old. I just ripped a stalk and ate. My cousin (11yrs) got in huge trouble.
@@JustKrista50 I'm glad you are doing well now!
Taste it on camera...I need a giggle!
What is wrong with the sound???
I hope nothing!
Ya know I enjoy watching ur video about the soap u were making and heard something that was messed up. U like the people more that give u money. I thought u were the nicest person with a great professional personality until I heard u say what u said. Unbelievable. I'm not trying to be mean just stating the truth. 😢
I like the people that have been here forever and don’t try to tone police my content. You are obviously not one of those people, whether you pay me or not.
There have been MANY of us OG sudsers that didn’t or don’t pay. Just saying.
