- Zeratul and his forces came under attack by corrupted protoss. Zeratul suspected that a hybrid had enslaved them. He contacted Selendis, but she too had fallen silent. He was contacted by Artanis, who was in the midst of succumbing to Amon's corruption of the Khala. Zeratul's own Khalai allies turned on him, and he was forced to flee. He headed for Artanis, forced to battle against his former allies. Eventually, he made it to Artanis. Zeratul urged Artanis to sever his nerve cords, as they were the Khalai's gestalt to the Khala. Zeratul moved to remove them, but Artanis parried his blow. With red eyes and a red psi-blade, Artanis rose, as Amon spoke through him. Soon, Amon had the upperhand. With a final blow, Zeratul was able to sever Artanis's appendages, freeing him from Amon's grasp. However, it was at the cost of Zeratul's life. Artanis rushed over and cradled Zeratul's body, watching as it collapsed to dust in his arms. All that was left was Zeratul's warp blade gauntlet, which Artanis took with him and wielded on his right hand until the end of the war...► Watch more Starcraft 2 videos: bit.ly/1b1W2yY.

"My life...for Auir."
The chills down my spine...
Austin Franks True...
Zealot walks into a bar and says: "My wife for hire!"
for Aiur you idiot , not "Auir" .
chestie001 the virgin aiur, the chad auir
Me when I see someone spell it Aiur: 😁
Me when I see someone spell it Auir: 😡
Zeratul sacrificed everything, he was the hero everyone in Starcraft needed.
But not the one they deserved...
Oh they definitely deserved Zeratul much more than Kerrigan..
But not the hero everyone wanted.
I think Artanis should die here then we playing as Zeratul in Protoss campagin
If not for Zeratul then all would have perished. He followed the clues that foretold the fact that without Kerrigan, all would perish, then he set the dominoes in motion.
After everything he's been through, after everything the Protoss have done to him, Zeratul's final battle cry is "My life... for Aiur." Not for Shakuras, but for Aiur. He never forgot his true homeworld and everything he did was done for the sake of his people. Just chills, man. This scene is amazing.
It's even more powerfully selfless when you realize that Zeratul was not born on Auir. He was born on Shakuras.
The only two Dark Templar that were old enough to remember Auir were Raszagal (1045 years old at the time of her death) and Mohandar (around 1150 aroud after the events of Brood Wars, right before he died).
Raszagal was born on year 1455. The Nerazim were established on Shakuras on the year 1500. Raszagal was around 45 years old when they got banished. But Zeratul was born 1865. 365 years after the Nerazim were banished from Auir.
So knowing this we could assume that Zeratul was not born on Auir. So the Nerazim really never did forget their responsibility to Auir despite no longer living there as Zeratul had said in SC1.
All dark templar still view aiur as their origin and have true love for it despite being outcast.
Well almost, as it was fostered in their culture.. That while they do not need or want the khalal, their planet is a different story.
Regular aiur protoss were against them, but the animosity wasnt mutual on many cases.
@@B.Scruby It is... Interesting. Starcraft 1's lore in the manuals tell a different story. The date of the Discord was never explicitly stated and Zeratul's page made it out to be like he was born on Aiur and always remembered his homeworld.
Of the many retcons Starcraft 2 made that I hated, while this one does pose many of the same inconsistencies, it does leagues for making Zeratul's selfless actions here impactful and makes it a net benefit for the story. I wish the same could be said of the other retcons made.

After hearing "my life for Aiur" 70 billion times during the first game, I never thought they'd be able to make it an epic line.
It changes meaning when it goes from a generic battle cry that could be replaced with "for my people", "go fuck off" or "your mother".
But when it is Zeratul trying to make up for losing Auir, for not seeing Amon's plans soon enough, for all his personal failings, then it hits hard
I would say that's because this time, it's no battle cry, but naming the price he's going to pay.
@@rory8182Indeed.... atonement for him. It was from Zeratul's mind that the Overmind first plucked the location of Aiur, precipitating its fall. No doubt that weighed heavily on him.
Given the Dark Templar lost Aiur long ago, and Zeratul cost the Protoss Aiur to the Zerg, it hits a lot harder to hear Zeratul saying it.
@@shuttlecrossing1433 "The Nerazim have always been a vagabond people, Artanis. Aiur was always our home." Zeratul couldn't have proven her right more succinctly.
This in spite being rejected as a traitor and banished from his homeworld, all because he wanted to choose his own beliefs.
Goodbye, Space Gandalf... You showed everyone what it means to forgive.
+ Luxai Yep, banished from both sides and called as a traitor by the Templars and the Dark Templars. Templars already look down on Zeratul because he is a Dark Templar. On top of it, Zerg Overmind found out the location of Aiur because Zeratul killed Zasz (briefly able to read each others' mind) and accidentally revealed Aiur. Dark Templars also see Zeratul as a traitor because he killed Matriach Raszagal.
@@Chemicalkinetics really meh? I thought she wanted him to kill her? Oh wait... zeratul left shakuras right? So he didnt explain or smthn? Idk its been very long since i played this game
@@SCP-up4ot "I thought she wanted him to kill her?" -- Yes, but most people don't know this, or believe this.

"My life for Aiur." So sad that Zeratul is still devoted to his homeworld amid the accusations of Aldaris and the Conclave. This hits me so hard.
Aldaris and the Conclave is @ss, good thing they died.
Dark templars always loved Aiur, no matter how hated they were there.
@@Reansel wasnt it zeratul that leaked aiurs location to kerrigan and caused its destruction?
@@RFGSwiss Well yes, but that was unintentional. When he killed that Cerebrate, his mind and Overmind's connected for a moment. He didn't do it on purpose.

Zeratuls last word is : the keystone ... wil guide you ... to the xelnaga
Mr. bean Garfield keystone....as in the Sargerite keystone? 0_0
Huh. Man Blizzard really likes reusing ideas, don't they. I mean I can't be the only one who misheard Nerazim as Nathrezim when they first heard it. One's the order for Dark Templars, the other being the racial name for a species of vampiric psychic demons.
En aru'din Zeratul.
Zeratul is a true hero. He told Jim that he must save Kerrigan and dont let her die. He told Kerrigan that she must mutate into the primal zerg. He saved Artanis and told him the way to win Amon. Whole his life Zeratul was exploring galaxy and was finding the true about world. If there aren't be Zeratul, everything be gone.
When a swordsman no longer cares about saving his own life his offensive potential increases dramatically, as shown here by Zeratul. He decided freeing Artanis is more important than his life, so he charged forward only thinking of cutting off Artanis' neural cords and leaving himself wide open to the blades.
Yea, it’s especially noticeable in how solid his blade looks, he knew he was about to die but his resolve was so strong that he didn’t care
Zeratul died an unforgetable hero
And from the moment on, Artanis aspired to become the greatest barber in the universe.
Way to ruin it

This one scene better than entire Last Jedi movie
James Lin Not that high of a compliment, sadly.
Peppa Pig is better then the last jedi movie. And that stupid pork show has 0 content
THERE IS ANOTHER
Both are good...
But of course this is better, Blizzard does amazing cinematic work, and Legacy of the Void had some of their best.
Last jedi not good it's awful
"my life, for auir"
That made me cry. (a little bit)
Aiur
He was banished from his home world and was renounced as a traitor, and yet he sacrificed himself for the people who did that to him. Zeratul is more human than... humans.
Most of the terran characters are kind of jerks! lol I was always rooting for the protoss...
@@ComedyLoverGirl i mean, let's be fair all humans that were sent to the koprulu sector were criminals
@@aaronthestuffguy3485 True. Certainly added to the dark and gritty aspect of the original.
@@aaronthestuffguy3485 Not just criminals. Augments, radicals. Basically anyone the UED wanted to get rid of quietly.
Ehh.. Humans were pretty shit honestly. Protoss, by virtue of the khalal to share emotions and thoughts allowed themselves to be quite satisfied in their respective caste and roles. Wars stopped for many years among themselves
Human were still fighting themselves lol..
Nobody can claim themselves their "Loyalty To The Soil" any harder than how Zeratul has in this scene. Nobody.
Made my heart, mind, body, and soul cry all at once 😭
For a Dark Templar say that his life is for Aiur, after all the Aeon of Strife and prejudice... Zeratul is way wiser than I ever can be...
The thing is that even the Nerazim still consider Aiur their homeworld. Shakuras was more like a temporary residence until they could return "home".
Also, they were far more forgiving toward the Khalai than vice versa.
@@gyppygirl2021 They longed for the acceptance of their people, but didn't want to use the Khala. In some way the ending is the one that's perfect to the Nerazim, since all the protoss are freed from the Khala there is no longer this religious barrier that separates them so they can unite again.
One day, I’ll tell my son the story of Zeratul
Please, no. He is just a kid!!!
pls let him play Starcraft without spoilers

The best "My life for Aiur!" of all time.
that blade sound, cinematography and emotion when the blade comes out. I never play protoss but i damn respect them because of Zeratul.
We forgive you Artanis but not your fault. Amon will pay for his crimes.
It is Artanis' fault. Zeratul told him to sever his nerve cords but he would not listen. Zeratul died to save Artanis, even though he could have easily murdered him instead.
Y2K Blackout he couldn't. Amon's influence had already taken over artanis. Even if artanis wanted to, he couldn't. If artanis could have, he would have listened to zeratul, as they both go way back.
Jus like he listened to him when Zeratul said that he shoudn't invade Aiur?
Y2K Blackout Artanis could not sever his own nerve cords, Amon had already reached him in the Khala. All the strength Artanis had was used to hold Amon off as long as possible, he could not spare any energy to sever them himself, he was holding off a GOD from taking control of him
Sebastian A Artanis is a new leader, the Dae'laam leader is basically a monarch, they are strong only because of the people, Artanis wanted to gain approval of the protoss and give them back what they lost. Artanis also knew that he could not stop when Zeratul told him to because the Dae'laam had already gotten riled up about retaking Aiur, he could not have stopped them, even if he tried.
I’ve heard “My life for Aiur” thousands of times, but coming from Zeratul, it just hits different.
Damn, RIP to Tassadar, Fenix, Matriarch in Starcraft 1, and Zeratul, you're all heroes of the Protoss Civilization, Salute.
My life will never be the same without you...
the funniest thing here is Zeratul's reaction to ''NO''
''Amon??!'' like it is a surprise
Zeratuel. You shall be missed
Truly your sacrifice was one of the greatest that every noble warrior wished they could obtain when their time has come....... however if Fenix is any indication some warriors don't stop battling even after death

Having played the game since the first version, this hit me straight in the feelz. ''My life for Aiur'' part just gives me chills
1:09 Artamonis: Your arrogance blinds you, Zeratul. Now you will experience the full power of the Dark Side! At last, the Dark Templar are no more!
1:13 Zeratul: Not if anything to say about it I have!
God i wish we were all so respectful and devoted to something... But society inevitably forces us to be amons when I'm sure that in our hearts we all want to be zeratuls and that's because in our world mengsks are considered badasses...
The keystone...will guide you...to the xelnaga. Unbelievably beautiful stuff. Epic.
This is horrible. I am a complete mess right now. Wasn't prepared for this...AT ALL!
One of the most saddest death scenes of all time
,,My life... for Aiur"
En Taro Zeratul
*My life.... For Aiur....*
We all knew those would be some of his last words...
And Exiled warrior, hated by the Daelaam for the killing of the cerebrate that showed to the Overmind the location of Aiur, hated by the Nerazim for the inevitable death of Raszagal. Thats the guy that said thous words, the one guy that everyone hates gave his life in the service of not just Aiur but to the service of the entire univers.
He was a hero after all, he deserves the shouting of his name in his honor.
En Taro Zeratul
Sebastian A wrong, hated by Conclave( and the rest of Aiur faction) because of Overmind's invasion. Hated only by Vorazun because he killed her mother. He was legitimate person who guild the Dark Templar in Rasagal's position. But driven by guilt, he decided to become a wanderer, seeking for the salvation.
In the original starcraft( not expansion) zeratul was hated by the Aiur faction, for he is dark templar.
He also was a hero at that time, for providing new home for aiur protoss.
*cries*
I cannot properly put into words the amount of emotion and nuance behind the line "My Life for Aiur" as uttered by Zeratul, as it would require a massive lore dump to put it in the proper context. Suffice it to say, Blizzard was brilliant in its execution of this scene.
They say that one warrior's life is worth to save many. But zeratul was beyond many.
its almost 6 years and I find the video got the wrong title, instead Artanis Kills Zeratul, "Zeratul sacrifice his life to save Artanis from corruption"
This is the first video of this series that I have ever seen and it broke my heart. I fell in love with Zeratul but then HE DIED WHAT THE HECK MY HEART GOT RIPPED OUT AND HE MEXICAN HAT DANCED ON TOP OF IT I AM SO HURT WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN. sorry my emotions got a hold of me. i'm sad
Mitchell Shumway are you sure this is the only moment of starcraft sad moments cause there are much more like tycus death ,kerrigans infest , stukov death , tosh death and the transform of kerrigan to that fire creature so this game is made to make you cry lol XD
Honestly this was one of few moments where I felt like I was playing the OG starcraft again. This and when raynor and artanis had that chat on korhal.

I really love how the Protoss got Order 66-ed. One moment they are all large and mighty, and in the next it's all gone...
This is the saddest and most bad ass thing to ever come out of the Starcraft universe
The heroïsm of the protoss always gives me goosebumps
My life for auir
I'm not crying, you're crying
"Mr. Artanis...I don't feel so good..."
I actually cried abit...
after all hes done...
gave me as a Terran information about the queen of blades.
gave me as a Zerg information about the primal zergs (1 final mission would be impossible without them)
he was just that selfless Protoss who was always on the player side for his prophecy...
and then he died... saving the player again... and just fades away
I love how Artanis is flying at him and Zeratul is steady calm and still. So cool.
I am not that deep into Starcraft lore but I like the idea of the wise old sage wizard like character being given a meaningful death by liberating and saving the next in line who is basically the new hope.
I just realized: Zeratul sounds a lot like Optimus Prime.
His old voice suited him better. But sadly the original voice actor died before SC2.

I don't feel so good mr. stark
The only laser weapon cooler than a lightsaber.
Imagine going back to the year 2000 then showing this video at e3 2000 then warp out of that place after the video finishes just to hype the sc players.
The specific shot at 1:45 makes it seem like Artanis is starring up at a 20 metre tall Zueratal
This is how you kill off a beloved character.
Not by using a butterfly swarm.
"I have beheld the twilight... i have been witness to the birth of many worlds..."
I cried. Ngl. Branded as a heretic and ostracized by the conclave. Zeratul was hated by the templar. Then, he even helped guide them out of darkness and it cost him his life. His last words were my life for Aiur. So powerful. The home of the people that hated him he spoke life into at his own expense. Deep.
Okay so when White Eyes in Hearthstone says 'My life for Aya' thats a reference to Zeratul's last words, it might even be the same voice actor
