Sadly, Laserdisc isn't forever, as many owners have found out. Unlike CDs, DVDs, Blurays, etc. The way Laserdiscs were manufactured has resulted in some rotting of the discs themselves. So there is a deadline to preserve those, and plenty have gone past that point already.
I always thought it was so perfect that when Frieza arrived in this version, he called everyone buttholes instead of assholes. It just made him sound so much more puerile and bratty.

"You peaked" was just such a perfect joke to me. I certainly have no problem with Gohan having a quiet life that makes him happy, but there was SOOO much buildup throughout the series that he had the most untapped potential and would leave everyone in the dust, it was extraordinarily frustrating
It's oddly realistic though. Like someone who is a really talented painter or pianist but they work for a living and only exercise their talent as a hobby. But yeah, Toriyama just kind of dropped that idea of having Goku and Vegeta making way for a new generation. He even gave it a bit of an arc, where Goku tries to hand off the hat to Goten and Trunks (even avoiding killing Buu himself, which by his own admission he could have done) before ultimately deciding to do it himself and let his kids live their own lives. Vegeta even lampshades it in the epilogue about their children being weak.
Even the "buildup" was pretty flimsy, let's be honest here. The writing in Dragon Ball is terrible. DB fans could've written a much better arc by now (which isn't difficult because Toriyama's writing is terrible lol).

I cannot overstate the comfort and joy which the original abridged show provided to me as a child. 2/10 year overall for me, gone through cancer surgery, skin disease ill likely never get rid of, bunch of crushed dreams and the prospect of a diceroll for my future. Having had these vids every week to look forward to has been my rock. Not just the humor, its been so nice to learn about writing processes, storytelling, video editing, voice acting I didnt expect this level of emotional investment when I found this series back in 2008, but here we are. I mey taka once at a con and he was one of if not the nicest dude i have ever met. I told him about how their content helped me through a really rough time in my life and he just brought me up on stage and gave me one of the biggest bear hugs of my life. It is a memory i cherish to this day along side all the wonferfull laughs i got from DBZA and all their other projects through the years. Thank you Teamfourstar for everything you've created and will continue to create. Heres to another 15 years!
No idea if Taka sees this, but my last couple of weeks have been super rough, and what he said about it being a comfort show really rings true. I've watched the series through, had episodes on in the background to fall asleep to, just generally been using it as distraction and comfort. You guys are great, the show is great, and thank you for making it.

My two favorites jokes of all DBZA are in Kai 3.5. "Welcome to the room of infinite bullshit" and "But at what cost? Oh, right, no cost." because they exemplify DBZ so accurately
You guys have mentioned people thinking Taka voiced 16 and while I can’t speak for everyone, for me it was because he was the only character not voiced by Taka to get a “you will quote everything I say” line (the others being Napa, Guru, and Cell).
I think that is why. It kinda sounds like Guru, and he gets the “you will quote everything i say” line which every other Taka character has gotten. Thank you for helping me fit those pieces together in my head.

Not only for DBZA, which has been a consistent bright spot in my life since a friend in high school dragged me over to watch this "hilarious video" he found while we were supposed to be studying, but for this commentary as well. Being able to go through this show that has meant so much to me over the years as a source of levity and joy when I've desperately needed it with the people who made it has been truly wonderful. As someone who discovered this series when I was in middle school, I'm now a college graduate. This show was formative for basically my entire sense of humor as an adult and I thank all of you for sharing this with the world.
In terms of finding comfort in this show, it's funny to me because these commentaries were actually a tremendous source of comfort right around the middle of namek saga that I really needed. Knowing that more of these were coming gave me that reason to keep going since I had something to look forward to. Getting to peak behind the curtain was just really fun for me. Thank you for doing the show, these commentaries, and for being seemingly wonderful people

What an insane journey these commentaries have been. I didn't find the show until near the end of the gap between episode 60 part 3 and part 4, but getting to follow along with this series made it feel like I was watching along with the rest of the community, learning new things about the show and, honestly, finding it funnier in retrospect now that I know the context. I've been looking forwards to these commentaries every week since they started, and they helped get me through the end of my university degree, my LSAT, and my law school applications. Thanks for making such a fantastic show, and thanks for taking the time to sit down and tell us about it.
I still believe TFS helped in reviving western interest again in Dragon Ball. Maybe not directly but still, at a time when DBZ was at a creative lull and with people losing interest, these guys came in and both introduced and reintroduced everyone to such a wonderful franchise full of character, heart and visually stunning fights and visuals. Thank you Team Four Star for everything you've done and showing me that there is more to Dragon Ball than just the fight scenes.
I was there (Gandolf). Dragon Ball was D. E. D. DED. The closest we got to something new was the animation in the video games. We only learned about "Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!" like years later. The internet was barely a thing back then and if you wanted to see something, good luck even finding out IF it was uploaded anywhere. And that's if you learn about it at all. 100% in my eyes, DBZA showed how popular the franchise still was which revived it.
Well TFS did say that a English Dub Line in Dragon ball Super was a direct line from the Abridged series.. I don't know if it was Emperor Pilaf saying "Crap Baskets!"

I would really love eventually to hear a commentary on the Buu Bits. I thought it was such a good way to get a conclusion to the unfinished character arcs, and there was a relief that you guys found a way to do what you were passionate about creating in the Buu arc and not wearing yourselves out by trying to do the entire Buu saga.

That and "The Unexpectables" which is a D&D game run by Taka's sister and had him in it for most of the first campaign. The TFS Gaming channel has tons of amazing stuff from like 6 years ago that always makes me laugh.
Considering how far in advance this was recorded, the bit about plagiarism at the beginning is almost serendipitous. Martin's aggressive delivery of "BUTTHOLES" is quite possible the funniest thing in the series to me. Got to the last video, may as well say it at this point, despite the fact that i suck at saying these things. A year and a half ago i was abandoned by one of my best friends as my other best friend betrayed me, spread deliberate misinformation, turned all my other friends against me and then tried to kill me... I lost EVERYONE important in my life to that "friend's" bullshit. I was at the lowest point of my life, suicidal even. On a serious note, thank you for this series and of course, DBZA. I cannot overstate the comfort and joy which the original abridged show provided to me as a child. A decade or so later and I find myself met with the same joy and now, nostalgia even, as we’ve been given the privilege to watch it all over again with you guys. The journey has been most insightful into the efforts, hardships, and emotions each of you have put into this project and I’m so very glad you guys came together to make this happen. I mey taka once at a con and he was one of if not the nicest dude i have ever met. I told him about how their content helped me through a really rough time in my life and he just brought me up on stage and gave me one of the biggest bear hugs of my life. It is a memory i cherish to this day along side all the wonferfull laughs i got from DBZA and all their other projects through the years. I've watched the series through, had episodes on in the background to fall asleep to, just generally been using it as distraction and comfort. You guys have mentioned people thinking Taka voiced 16 and while I can’t speak for everyone, for me it was because he was the only character not voiced by Taka to get a “you will quote everything I say” line (the others being Napa, Guru, and Cell).
And honestly he just sounds like a Taka voice with a filter. You can even hear it in this episode of the commentary when Taka does an impression.

Not only for DBZA, which has been a consistent bright spot in my life since a friend in high school dragged me over to watch this "hilarious video" he found while we were supposed to be studying, but for this commentary as well. Being able to go through this show that has meant so much to me over the years as a source of levity and joy when I've desperately needed it with the people who made it has been truly wonderful. Insight into the mind of an artist who has made something that they love and that you love carries a special kind of beauty that I struggle to define. I am honored. I am grateful. "NO YOU'RE ME!" Is a line I actually shouted at my nephew when I gave him a shirt from my college to wear once. Both of us and my sister fell over laughing even though they didn't get the reference. So many quotable lines, but that's my favorite one

In terms of finding comfort in this show, it's funny to me because these commentaries were actually a tremendous source of comfort right around the middle of namek saga that I really needed. Knowing that more of these were coming gave me that reason to keep going since I had something to look forward to. Getting to peak behind the curtain was just really fun for me. Thank you for doing the show, these commentaries, and for being seemingly wonderful people

I wasn't even a Dragonball fan before finding y'all. But your incredible talent immediately hooked me in. I've rewatched your show more times than I can count. Thank you so much for creating something so wonderful that I can always turn to when I'm feeling down.
What an insane journey these commentaries have been. I didn't find the show until near the end of the gap between episode 60 part 3 and part 4, but getting to follow along with this series made it feel like I was watching along with the rest of the community, learning new things about the show and, honestly, finding it funnier in retrospect now that I know the context. I've been looking forwards to these commentaries every week since they started, and they helped get me through the end of my university degree, my LSAT, and my law school applications. Thanks for making such a fantastic show, and thanks for taking the time to sit down and tell us about it.
I never thought the "in a year" bit was suppose to be a fake out, I always thought it was to acknowledge how long time it took.
I still believe TFS helped in reviving western interest again in Dragon Ball. Maybe not directly but still, at a time when DBZ was at a creative lull and with people losing interest, these guys came in and both introduced and reintroduced everyone to such a wonderful franchise full of character, heart and visually stunning fights and visuals. Thank you Team Four Star for everything you've done and showing me that there is more to Dragon Ball than just the fight scenes.

I was there (Gandolf). Dragon Ball was D. E. D. DED. The closest we got to something new was the animation in the video games. We only learned about "Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!" like years later. The internet was barely a thing back then and if you wanted to see something, good luck even finding out IF it was uploaded anywhere. And that's if you learn about it at all. 100% in my eyes, DBZA showed how popular the franchise still was which revived it.
Well TFS did say that a English Dub Line in Dragon ball Super was a direct line from the Abridged series..

I would really love eventually to hear a commentary on the Buu Bits. I thought it was such a good way to get a conclusion to the unfinished character arcs, and there was a relief that you guys found a way to do what you were passionate about creating in the Buu arc and not wearing yourselves out by trying to do the entire Buu saga.
This has been one of the roughest years of my life without a shadow of a doubt. Getting a chance to go back and enjoy these episodes with you all has been one of the beacons in a sea of darkness. Thank you

If you haven't seen it already, their D&D show was amazing and is sure to bring lots of laughs, and there is tons of it to watch or listen to in podcast form. That and "The Unexpectables" which is a D&D game run by Taka's sister and had him in it for most of the first campaign.
The TFS Gaming channel has tons of amazing stuff from like 6 years ago that always makes me laugh.
Considering how far in advance this was recorded, the bit about plagiarism at the beginning is almost serendipitous.

Got to the last video, may as well say it at this point, despite the fact that i suck at saying these things.
A year and a half ago i was abandoned by one of my best friends as my other best friend betrayed me, spread deliberate misinformation, turned all my other friends against me and then tried to kill me... I lost EVERYONE important in my life to that "friend's" bullshit. I was at the lowest point of my life, suicidal even. Yet one of the things that got me through those dark days was binging a ton of your content. DBZA, Hellsing abridged, the gaming content, unabridged, all of it.
